Anna Martina Leiker 1909-2000
HAYS - Anna M. Leiker, 91, died Dec. 29 at Hays Medical Center. She was
born March 21, 1909, at Antonino, the daughter of John and Margaret
Steckline Urban. She married Jacob Leiker June 2, 1931, at Antonino. He
died June 1, 1996. A resident of Hays, she was a homemaker and housekeeping
supervisor at St. Anthony Hospital, retiring in 1975.
Mrs. Leiker was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church,
Daughters of Isabella, Eagle's Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars
Auxiliary, Hays Medical Center Auxiliary and Perpetual Eucharistic Adorers,
all of Hays.
Survivors include two sons, Herbert Leiker of Anza, Calif., and Ernest
Leiker of Aurora, Colo.; three brothers, Walter Urban of Antonino, Paul
Urban of Great Bend and Bill Urban of Osborne; seven grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by two daughters, Marietta Kohlrus and Darlene Leiker; four
brothers, Izzy Urban, Ben Urban, George Urban and Eugene Urban; and one
sister, Sister Lillian Urban.
Perpetual Adorers rosary will be at 3 p.m., Hays Medical Center Auxiliary
rosary at 3:30 p.m., Daughters of Isabella rosary at 4 p.m., Eagle's
Auxiliary service at 4:30 p.m., VFW Auxiliary service at 5 p.m. and parish
vigil at 6:30 p.m., all today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. David Metz
officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery in Hays. Friends may
call from 3-7 today and from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or for Masses, in care of the funeral
home.

Rawlin Eugene Newkirk 1934-2000
HOISINGTON - Rawlin Eugene Newkirk, 66, died Dec. 27 at his home in
Hoisington. He was born May 2, 1934, in Barton County, the son of Forest
and Elizabeth Korf Newkirk. A lifetime resident of Barton County, he was a
retired employee of Esfeld Engineering.
Survivors include three brothers, Frank Newkirk of Hoisington, Jim Newkirk
and Don Newkirk, both of Great Bend; and one sister, Betty Davis of
Hoisington. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Stout and
Georgia Dyers.
Graveside service was Saturday at Hoisington cemetery with the Rev. Dick
Ogle officiating. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, in
care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Raymond C. Rodie 1918-2000
LA CROSSE - Raymond C. Rodie, 82, died Dec. 30 at Concordia. Survivors and
funeral arrangements will be announced by Janousek Funeral Home in La
Crosse.

Wilhelmina Katherina Start 1909-2000
MCCRACKEN - Wilhelmina Katherina Start, 91, died Dec. 29 at Ransom. She was
born June 5, 1909.
Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Janousek Funeral
Home in La Crosse.

Alice B. Dawson 1920-2000
Alice B. Dawson, 80, died Dec. 27 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born March 12, 1920, at Wichita, the
daughter of Emmitt and Bessie Robbins. She married Ralph E. Dawson May 9,
1938, at Larned. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Dawson was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altar
Society, Daughters of Isabella and RSVP, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Dee Murdy of Phoenix, Ariz.,
and Nancy Goetz of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Kirk Murdy.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in
Great Bend with the Rev. Eugene Kenny officiating. Private burial will be
at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Great Bend Humane Society,
Great Bend Senior Center or the church, all in care of Bryant-Christians
Funeral Home in Great Bend.

Frank D. Oshel 1922-2000
HOLYROOD - Frank D. Oshel, 78, died Dec. 25 at Wilson Nursing Center in
Wilson. He was born Aug. 11, 1922, at Topeka, the son of Boyd and Iva
Gwendolyn Anna Oshel. He married Elsie Purma Nov. 8, 1942, at Wichita. A
resident of Holyrood since 1942, coming from Topeka, he was a farmer,
stockman and former employee of Midway Industries of Holyrood.
Oshel was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Lions Club and
Lloyd J. Schroeder American Legion Post 200, all of Holyrood, and Eagles
Club of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War
II.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janice Grubb and Judy Glaser,
both of Holyrood; two brothers, Clifford Oshel of Topeka and Elmer Oshel of
Waynesboro, Penn.; one sister, Christine Girvin of Liberty, Mo.; six
grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services were at Palacky cemetery in Holyrood with the Rev. Mary
Lou Klein officiating and military rites provided by American Legion.
Memorials are suggested to the church or American Legion, both in care of
Foster Mortuary in Wilson.

Alvina Niver 1917-2000
WAKEENEY - Alvina Niver, 83, died Dec. 25 at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital
in WaKeeney. She was born Aug. 7, 1917, at WaKeeney, the daughter of George
and Mary Margheim Koleber. She married Elmer Buehler in 1939, at
Hoisington. He died Aug. 17, 1947. She then married Henry Krentzel at
Eureka. He died Nov. 19, 1971. A resident of WaKeeney since 1979, she was a
waitress at Helen's Corner and Quality Cafe, both in WaKeeney.
Mrs. Niver was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary No.
3449, American Legion Moore Post 197 and Presbyterian Church, all of
WaKeeney, and American Legion Jack Warren Post 22 of Delta Junction, Alaska.
Survivors include three stepdaughters, Kara Small of Wilson, Bernadine
Eichman of Manhattan and Valetta Smith of Soldotna, Alaska; one brother,
Edward Koleber of California; one sister, Martha Kroeger of Denver, Colo.;
13 stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by four brothers, Arthur Koleber, Lavern Koleber, Harold Dean
Koleber and Ernest Koleber; and three sisters, Herminia Nowlin, Elennora
Draper and Ester McCann.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney with
the Rev. Floyd Starr III officiating. Private burial will be at Great Bend
City Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at
the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the
funeral home.

Roy E. Watt 1920-2000
PHILLIPSBURG - Roy E. Watt, 80, died Dec. 26 at West Plains Medical Complex
in Dodge City. He was born Jan. 7, 1920, at Healy, the son of Roy G. and
Beulah K. Baxter Watt. He married Betty Louise Ross Aug. 21, 1949, at
Almena. She died June 28, 1992. A longtime resident of Phillipsburg, he was
a teacher.
Watt was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and a lifetime member of Long Island
American Legion.
Survivors include one son, Eric Watt of Phillipsburg; one daughter,
Kimberly Cole of Phillipsburg; two sisters, Dean Matheson of Grand Prairie,
Texas, and Bonnie Friedly of Hoisington; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Prairie View Reformed Church in Prairie
View with the Rev. Don Covington officiating. Burial will be at Long Island
Cemetery in Long Island with military honors. Friends may call from 9 a.m.
until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in
Phillipsburg. Memorials are suggested to Prairie View Reformed Church, in
care of the funeral home.

Edna G. Hesler 1903-2000
CIMARRON - Edna G. Hesler, 97, died Dec. 26 at The Shepherd's Center in
Cimarron. She was born Sept. 22, 1903, at Lorraine, the daughter of Edward
T. and Gertrude Jeffries Schwartz. She married Jess C. Hesler June 9, 1926,
at Medicine Lodge. He died Nov. 9, 1988. A longtime resident of Cimarron,
she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hesler was a member of United Methodist Church and Order of the
Eastern Star, both of Cimarron.
Survivors include two sons, Leroy Hesler of Great Bend and Carl Hesler of
Wichita; one daughter, Mildred Seley of Topeka; one brother, Arthur
Schwartz of Kiowa; one sister, Mildred Bullard of Enid, Okla.; six
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cimarron cemetery with
the Rev. Frank DeFisher officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight at
Burkhart's Gray County Funeral Chapel in Cimarron.

Ross Charles Hewson 1919-2000
LARNED - Ross Charles Hewson, 81, died Dec. 26 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. He was born Sept. 6, 1919, at Larned,
the son of Arthur Winfield and Myrtle Clarkson Hewson. He married Genevieve
Hunsley May 22, 1943, at Wichita. A lifetime resident of Larned, he was an
engineer for Larned State Hospital.
Hewson was a member of United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign
Wars, both in Larned.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Steve Hewson of Denver, Colo.; and two
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Hewson and
Glenn Hewson; and two sisters, Alma Kidwell and Clara Foss.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in
Larned with the Rev. Bill Stapleton officiating. Burial will be at Larned
Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday
and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the mortuary. Memorials
are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary.

Alice B. Dawson, 80, died Dec. 27 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Rose Campus in Great Bend.
