Vaughn M. Graebner 1905-2000
HUTCHINSON - Vaughn M. Graebner, 95, died Dec. 23 at Good Samaritan Village in Hutchinson. She was born July 12, 1905, at Naron, the daughter of Charles and Emma Miles. She married James A. Graebner March 10, 1925, at Macksville. He preceded her in death. A resident of Hutchinson for seven years, coming from Macksville, she was a homemaker and a psychiatric aide for Larned State Hospital.
Mrs. Graebner was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, EHU and VIP Center, all of Macksville. Survivors include two sons, Don Graebner and Doug Graebner, both of Hutchinson; two daughters, Ethel Mae Anderson of Rawling, Wyo., and Roberta Britner of Aurora, Colo.; one sister, Peggy Christiancy of Nixa, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Norman Graebner, Leland Graebner and Noel Graebner; two brothers, Bob Miles and Shorty Miles; three sisters, Enia Hopkins, Verda Mae Miles and Madge Worthington.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. David Upp officiating. Burial will be at Farmington cemetery in Macksville. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel in Macksville. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 26, 2000

Wanda J. Ziegler 1923-2000
LYONS - Wanda J. Ziegler, 77, died Dec. 23 at Hutchinson Hospital. She was born April 8, 1923, at Trousdale, the daughter of Ira and Kittie Mae Hudson Welsch. She married Calvin J. Beydler Oct. 10, 1942, at Kansas City. He died May 29, 1959. She then married Paul G. Ziegler Sept. 14, 1963, at Lyons. A resident of Lyons since 1961, she was a retired machinist for Cessna Fluid and Power Division in Hutchinson.
Mrs. Ziegler was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Lyons Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was also past president of VFW auxiliary Seventh District in Kansas. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Calvin L. Beydler of San Diego, Calif., Donald E. Beydler of Great Bend and Milton R. Beydler of Wiggins, Colo.; one daughter, Joyce A. Link of Pawnee Rock; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons with the Rev. Robert Friesen officiating. Burial will be at Pawnee Rock Cemetery. Friends may call until 7 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Rice County Council on Aging, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 26, 2000

TOPEKA - Hazel Irene Lindquist Sparke, 100, died Dec. 24 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter. Dec. 26, 2000
Kenneth Fradd 1918-2000 Kenneth Fradd, 82, died Dec. 25 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born July 23, 1918. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Dec. 26, 2000

ALBERT - Roy H. Behrens, 80, died Dec. 26 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 26, 1920. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Dec. 26, 2000
Bessie May Fishburn 1913-2000 LARNED - Bessie May Fishburn, 87, died Dec. 23 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. She was born Jan. 30, 1913, at Solomon, the daughter of Harry and Mary Picking Fleagle. She married Lester M. Fishburn Nov. 30, 1932, at Solomon. He preceded her in death.
A lifetime resident of Larned, coming from Fall River, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Fishburn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Larned. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Fishburn and Leon Fishburn, both of Larned; two daughters, Glenda Kirkham of Larned and Cindy Houser of Lake Waukomis, Mo.; one brother, Eugene Fleagle of Enterprise; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the mortuary. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Rosewood Services, in care of the mortuary. Dec. 26, 2000

Justina 'Josie' E. Peters 1915-2000
WICHITA - Justina "Josie" E. Peters, 85, died Dec. 23 at Wichita Presbyterian Manor. She was born May 2, 1915, at Buhler, the daughter of Cornelius J. and Gertrude Epp Vogt. She married Dan C. Peters Nov. 14, 1936, at North Newton. He died Dec. 13, 1983. A resident of Wichita, coming from Buhler and Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Peters was a volunteer for American Red Cross and Wichita Presbyterian Manor Gift Shop. Survivors include one son, Jordan G. Peters of Valley Center; one daughter, Donna Dunn of Wichita; one granddaughter; two step grandsons; and one stepgreat-granddaughter. Funeral was today at Cochran Mortuary Chapel of the Roses in Wichita. Burial was at Buhler Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Mennonite Brethren Church in Wichita or Wichita Presbyterian Manor - Good Samaritan Fund, both in care of the mortuary. Dec. 26, 2000

Alta K. Marteney 1902-2000
INMAN - Alta K. Marteney, 98, died Dec. 22 at Hutchinson Hospital. She was born Sept. 5, 1902, near Dundee, the daughter of Peter and Helena Schmidt Schmidt. She was a 1922 graduate of Pawnee Rock High School. She married Gilbert F. Marteney Sept. 1, 1922, at Pawnee Rock. He died Sept. 19, 1961. A resident of Hutchinson since 1933, coming from Larned, she was employed by Hutchinson High School for more than 10 years, served as a babysitter for several Hutchinson families and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Marteney was a member of New Jerusalem Church in Pawnee Rock and she attended First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson where she was a member of the Stitch and Chatter Group. Survivors include three sons, Leonard Marteney of Buhler, Charles Marteney of Bushton and James Marteney of Love Park, Ill.; one daughter, Sue Wagler of Plevna; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lewis Schmidt, Fred Schmidt, Chester Smith and Bennie Smith; two sisters, Annie Dirks and Susie Seibert; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel in Hutchinson with the Rev. Eric Zacharias officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery in Hutchinson. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Pleasant View Home of Inman, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 26, 2000

Gladys Leona Rostine 1912-2000
HOISINGTON - Gladys Leona Rostine, 88, died Dec. 24 at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center. She was born Aug. 8, 1912, at Protection, the daughter of Winston Garfield and Lula May Nolty Ramey. She married Ralph Rostine Dec. 1, 1946, at Hoisington. He died Nov. 28, 1993. A resident of Hoisington since 1942, she was a private music instructor and taught school at Medicine Lodge, Walnut, Buckner, Potwin, Windom and Hoisington. Mrs. Rostine was a member of Protection First United Methodist Church, Hoisington First Methodist Church, PEO and Eastern Star.
She was also a member of Central Kansas Piano Teacher's League, Kansas Music Teacher's Association, Parnassus Music Club, Woman's Civic Club, Heritage Club, Barton County Retired Teacher's Association and Kansas Retired Teacher's Association. Survivors include several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Henry Ramey and Charles Winston Ramey. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be at McPherson Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Shrine Burn Center or First United Methodist Church, both in care of the funeral home. Dec. 26, 2000

Edgar P. Felzien 1921-2000
Edgar P. Felzien, 79, died Dec. 23 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Cheyenne County, the son of Otto H. and Susie Oster Felzien. He married Viola A. Schlegel Dec. 27, 1972, at Ness City. A resident of Great Bend for seven years, coming from Hays, he was a farmer. Felzien was a member of First United Methodist Church in Great Bend and First United Methodist Church in Prescott Valley, Ariz.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Keith A. Felzien of Williams, Ariz.; two daughters, Virginia A. Stanton of Tempe, Ariz., and Charlene K. Alsop of Tucson, Ariz.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha Kwolick. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Kevin Baxter officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend, and from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 26, 2000

Mildred Elnor Schulz 1921-2000
ST. JOHN - Mildred Elnor Schulz, 79, died Dec. 24 at her home in St. John. She was born Sept. 16, 1921, at St. John, the daughter of George Rowe and Mary Hazel Radke Clemes. She attended Beauty Salon School in California and Fort Hays State University. She married Arthur "Bud" Schulz March 20, 1948, at St. John. A lifetime resident of St. John, she was a homemaker and secretary for Register of Deeds and Clerks Office, both of Stafford County.
Mrs. Schulz was a member of First United Methodist Church, UMW, EHU and Mothers Club. She also served as church treasurer, church thrift shop co-chairman and was a past Cub Scout troop leader, all in St. John. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Steve Schulz, Stewart Schulz and William "Bill" Schulz, all of St. John; two daughters, Carla Phillips of Lawrence and Kathy Arnold of DeSoto; two sisters, Hazel Jordan of St. John and Amy Galliardt of Hays; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday at Minnis Chapel in St. John with the Rev. Harlan Rittgers officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to the church or American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral home. Dec. 26, 2000

Richard C. Gallo 1943-2000
WASHINGTON, Mich. - Richard C. Gallo, 57, died Dec. 10 at his home. He was
born Nov. 5, 1943, in Wauwatosa, Wis., the son of Werner and Sophie Gallo.
He married Joyce Briel June 19, 1965, in Great Bend. A resident of
Washington for 17 years, he was a facilities engineer with General Motors.
Gallo was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Shelby Township, Mich., and
the Gideons Macomb Northwest camp.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Christopher (Jennifer)
Gallo of Laingsburg, Mich., and Jeffrey Gallo of West Bloomfield, Mich.;
one foster daughter, Marla Reily of Shelby Township; his parents of
Chattanooga, Tenn.; one brother, Daniel (Barbara) Gallo of Houston, Texas;
one sister, Marianne (Roger) Slone of Elyria, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Memorial service was held Dec. 17 at the church with the Rev. Murray
Brindle officiating. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Gideons
Macomb Northwest Camp, in care of William Sullivan and Son Funeral Home,
8459 Hall Road, Utica, MI 48315.

John W. Marlett 1926-2000
HAYS - John W. Marlett, 74, died Dec. 21 at Hays Medical Center. He was
born Oct. 21, 1926, in Kinsley, the son of Vernal and Della Salmans
Marlett. He married Betty J. Brack July 18, 1947, in Larned. She died Feb.
14, 1989. He married Ruth Hackerott Oct. 16, 1994, in Hays. A resident of
Hays, he was owner and operator of A&W Restaurant in Hays for 27 years.
Marlett was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and Lions Club, both of
Hays, and a former member of Fort Hays Shriners.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, John Marlett Jr. of
McPherson, Doug Marlett of Hays and Mike Marlett of Tualatin, Ore.; two
daughters, Linda Meier of Omaha, Neb., and Connie Staab of Hays; two
step-sons, Alan Hackerott of Blair, Neb., and Brian Hackerott of
Schenectady, N.Y.; one brother, L.E. "Mick" Marlett of Larned; one sister,
Margaret Durler of Great Bend; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren;
and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother,
James Marlett; and one sister, Viola Kirchgassner.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in
Hays with the Rev. William Miller officiating. Burial will be at Mount
Allen cemetery in Hays. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hays
Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays and from 9 am. until service time
Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Cancer Council of Ellis
County, in care of the funeral home.

Gerald J. 'Gus' Gerstenkorn 1937-2000
Gerald J. "Gus" Gerstenkorn, 63, died Dec. 22 at Integrated Health Services
in Great Bend. He was born July 10, 1937, at Beaver, the son of Phillip P.
and Louise H. Schremmer Gerstenkorn. He married Barbara Suzanne Sallabedra
July 20, 1984, in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend, he was an oilfield
contractor.
Gerstenkorn was a member of First Church of God in Great Bend. He was a
U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Phillip T. Gerstenkorn
of Wynne, Ark., Bruce A. Gerstenkorn of Vernon, Texas, and Jeffery J.
Gerstenkorn of Vine Grove, Ky.; two daughters, Pam Sloan and Kara
Gerstenkorn, both of Great Bend; one brother, LeRoy B. Gerstenkorn of Great
Bend; four sisters, Gemmelia Esfeld of Great Bend, Joan Gorman of Salina,
Alice Birch of Topeka and Patricia Lang of Lancaster, Calif.; and nine
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen McAllister.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Dick Ogle
officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend.
Friends may call from 1-9 tonight, from 6-9 p.m. Monday and from 9-11 a.m.
Tuesday, all at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend, and from noon
to service time Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Victory
in the Valley, in care of the funeral home.

Wanda J. McGinley 1923-2000
DODGE CITY - Wanda J. McGinley, 77, died Dec. 22 at Terrace Gardens Nursing
Home in Wichita. She was born March 29, 1923, in Selden, the daughter of
William Scott and Bessie Thompson Horner. She was a 1940 graduate of Colby
High School. She married William Edward McGinley July 22, 1941, in Oberlin.
He died in 1990. A resident of Dodge City, she was a retired credit manager
for Pepsi-Cola.
Mrs. McGinley was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral and Altar Society in
Dodge City.
Survivors include three sons, Scott McGinley of Wichita, Michael McGinley
of Muscat, Oman, and Daniel McGinley of Topeka; one sister, Ruby Kruse of
Aurora, Colo.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two
sons, Thomas M. McGinley and Richard McGinley; one brother; and three
sisters.
Vigil will be at 7 pm. Tuesday at Swaim Funeral home in Dodge City. Funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Ted Skalsky
officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery in Dodge City. Friends
may call from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral
home.

Jerry Alan Ward 1965-2000
CHASE - Jerry Alan Ward, 35, died Dec. 21 north of Little River as a result
of an oil field accident. He was born Jan. 23, 1965, in Great Bend, the son
of Eddie W. and Joyce Schlegel Ward. He was a 1983 graduate of Chase High
School. A resident of Chase, he was a machinist for Farley Machine Works
Company of Chase.
Survivors include his parents of Chase; one brother, Eddie Wayne Ward of
Chase; one sister, Tracy Wood of Chase; and grandmother, Esther Schlegel of
Pueblo, Colo.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest cemetery in
Great Bend with the Rev. Johnnie Hardie officiating. Friends may call until
7 tonight at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to Rice
County Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Hilda Pauline Young 1905-2000
ELLINWOOD - Hilda Pauline Young, 95, died Dec. 21 at Central Kansas Medical
Center Long Term Care Unit in Ellinwood. She was born Sept. 20, 1905, in
Barton County, the daughter of Charles Henry and Mary Bulow Schermuly. She
married George Young May 17, 1927, in Ellinwood. He died Feb. 14, 1965. A
lifetime resident of Ellinwood, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Young was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Altar
Society, both of Great Bend.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by
one daughter, Mary Louise Young; one brother, Joe Schermuly; and two
sisters, Marguerette Voth and Esther Voth.
Altar Society rosary will be at 3 today at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home
in Great Bend. Rosary will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery
in Ellinwood with the Rev. Angel Dy officiating. Friends may call until 9
tonight at the funeral home. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to St. Rose School Building Fund, in care of the
funeral home.
