Howard David Jimison 1919-2001
LORRAINE - Howard David Jimison, 82, died Oct. 11 at Ellsworth Medical Center in Ellsworth. He was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Stafford, the son of William and Minnie Pearl Main Jimison. He was a 1938 graduate of Stafford High School. He married Verda M. Staley Sept. 19, 1942, in Byers. A resident of Lorraine since 1950, he worked for 31 years at the Lorraine Grain Company and 11 years for the city of Lorraine. Jimison was a member of Saddle Club of Lorraine. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Larry Jimison of Great Bend, Kyle Jimison of Bushton and James Jimison of New Era, Mich.; two daughters, Cheryl Urbanek of Colby and Cathy Preston of Oakley; two brothers, Lysle Jimison of Winfield and Russell Jimison of Wichita; four sisters, Dorthora Sanford, Lorraine Ripley and Marjorie Tribue, all of Wichita, and Wanda Gere of Garden City; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael David Jimison; two brothers, Horace Jimison and Robert Jimison; and two grandchildren, Casey Jimison and Temple Jimison. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to Leukemia Society or donor"s choice, both in care of the funeral chapel. Oct. 12, 2001

Jamie Kloxin Shryock 1961-2001
Jamie Kloxin Shryock, 40, of Great Bend, died Oct. 10 at her residence. She was born March 9, 1961, in Arkansas City, the daughter of Frederick Alfred and Barbara Pierce Kloxin. She married C.J. Shryock March 24, 2001, in Great Bend. A resident of Garden City for one month, coming from Great Bend, where she spent most of her life, she was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Ryan Shryock of the home; one daughter, Jonni Anne Shryock of the home; and three sisters, Kim Stein and Kelly Beck, both of Great Bend, and Amy Penicost of Springfield, Mo. She was preceded in death by one brother, Troy Kloxin. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Great Bend Cemetery, with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Jamie Shryock Children's Fund, in care of Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Oct. 12, 2001

Bernadine L. Overly 1915-2001
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Bernadine L. Overly, 86, died Oct. 10 in San Antonio. She was born June 12, 1915, in Claflin, the daughter of Walter and Charlotte German Frederick. She married Russell T. Overly. He preceded her in death. A former resident of Ellinwood for more than 50 years, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Overly was a member of Ellinwood Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Shonyo of San Antonio, Texas, and Charlotte Green of Burton; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Walter Overly. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Great Bend, with the Rev. Jack Matrow officiating. There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, in care of Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Oct. 12, 2001

Buford A. Crook 1912-2001
DODGE CITY - Buford A. Crook, 89, died Oct. 11 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born Aug. 16, 1912, in Westline, Mo., the son of Wayne and Myrtle Grey Crook. He married Rose M. Snider June 19, 1936, in Dodge City. She died April 28, 1987. A resident of Dodge City, coming from Rozel, he was owner/operator of a service station. Crook was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral Church in Dodge City. Survivors include one son, Buford A. Crook Jr. of Wichita; one daughter, Pat Armstrong of Dodge City; one brother, Robert Crook of Wichita; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Ted Skalsky officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery in Dodge City. Friends may call until 7 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or ALS Foundation, both in care of the funeral home. Oct. 12, 2001

Norbert Farney 1920-2001
SYLVAN GROVE - Norbert Farney, 81, died Oct. 11. He was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Sylvan Grove, the son of Dennis Sr. and Lena Kasper Farney. A resident of Sylvan Grove, he was a farmer and stockman. Survivors include two brothers, Dennis J. Farney of Wilson and Emil Farney of Wichita. Prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Foster Mortuary in Wilson. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. Burial will be at the church cemetery in Wilson. Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 11, 2001

Firma Mae Boor 1938-2001
LITTLETON, Colo. - Firma Mae Boor, 63, died Oct. 3 in Littleton. She was born Feb. 19, 1938, at Hays, the daughter of Gregory and Pauline Graf Pfannenstiel. She married Jerome Boor. He died April 25, 1999. A resident of Littleton, coming from Hays, she was a registered nurse, working at St. Anthony's Hospital in Hays for many years. Mrs. Boor was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Englewood, Colo. Survivors include two sons, Michael Boor of Chula Vista, Calif., and John Boor of Killeen, Texas; one daughter, Michele Walker of Englewood; one brother, Greg Pfannenstiel of Hays; one sister, Rosiette Gross of Holbrook, Neb.; and two grandchildren. The funeral was Oct. 8 in Englewood. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Odin Cemetery. Hays Memorial Chapel Inc. of Hays is in charge of local arrangements. Oct. 11, 2001

Harold Lee Kilgore 1924-2001
ELLINWOOD - Harold Lee Kilgore, 77, died Oct. 9 at his home in Ellinwood. He was born May 6, 1924, in Niotaze, the son of David Matthew and Alice Pentzer Kilgore. He married Barbara Smith Oct. 6, 1953, in Rolla, N.D. A resident of Ellinwood since 1959, he was the retired owner of Kilgore Painting and Sandblasting in Ellinwood. Kilgore was a member of Cheyenne Bottoms Sportsmans Club were he was past president. He was a U.S. Army Corp of Engineers veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theater. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Dave Kilgore and Harold Kilgore, both of Ellinwood and Bruce Kilgore of Chase; two daughters, Tammi Krom and Gina Krom, both of Ellinwood; two brothers, Howard Kilgore of Chase and Granuil Kilgore of Wayside; two sisters, Emma Lou Defenbaugh of Independence and Margie Green of Post Rock, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood, with the Rev. Rick Standlee officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cheyenne Bottoms Sportsman's Club or Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, both in care of the funeral home. Oct. 10, 2001

John McLinden Jr. 1921-2001
COLBY - John McLinden Jr., 79, died Oct. 6 at his home in Colby. He was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Chase County. He married Patricia D. McLinden. She died May 24, 1993. A resident of Colby for more than 50 years, he was a retired grain elevator manager. Survivors include one daughter, Gail D. Moeder of Great Bend; one brother, Virgil "Bud" McLinden of Marion; one sister, Lucile McLinden of Denver; and two step-grandchildren. Vigil and rosary will be at 7 tonight at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel in Colby. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby, with the Rev. Galen Long officiating. Burial will be at Beulah cemetery in Colby. Friends may call until 9 tonight at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the church or American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral chapel. Oct. 10, 2001

Stephen J. Gibbs 1949-2001
JETMORE - Stephen J. Gibbs, 52, died Oct. 8 at Hodgeman County Health Center in Jetmore. He was born April 23, 1949, in Dodge City, the son of Joe and Billie Burnham Gibbs. A long time resident of Jetmore, he was a welder and truck driver. Gibbs was a member of United Methodist Church and American Legion, both of Jetmore. Survivors include one son, Robert John Gibbs of the home; one daughter, Christie Lorraine Gibbs of the home; his mother of Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; one brother, Sidney Gibbs of Cheyenne Wells; four sisters, Peggy Hoffman and Elizabeth Ross, both of Cheyenne Wells, Connie Brown of Twelve Mile, Ind., and Tonda Mauzey of St. Joseph, Mo. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Mitch Reece officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount cemetery in Jetmore, with military graveside rites. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, all at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. Memorials are suggested to Gibbs Children Educational Fund, in care of the funeral home. Dorothy M. Smith 1916-2001
HOLYROOD - Dorothy M. Smith, 85, died Oct. 8 at her residence in Holyrood. She was born Sept. 18, 1916, in Holyrood, the daughter of John and Anna Ehler Siemsen. She married Melbourne "Bud" Smith in 1944. A long time resident of Holyrood, she was an office clerk for J.C. Penney. She was a member of St. Paul"s United Church of Christ and American Legion Auxiliary, both in Holyrood. Survivors include four sisters, Margaret Mehl, Mildred Hannaberry and Gertrude Cundiff, all of Holyrood and Lou Ella Strong of Lakeview, Ark. She was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Siemsen. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Mary Lou Klein officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's United Church of Christ cemetery in Holyrood. Friends may call until 8 tonight at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth and from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 10, 2001

Elsie Bradshaw Beggs 1915-2001
Elsie Bradshaw Beggs, 86, of Great Bend, died Oct. 7 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born May 14, 1915, in Stanberry, Mo., the daughter of William C. and Mary E. Gound Bradshaw. She was a graduate of Fairbury High School in Fairbury, Neb., She married Philip H. Beggs July 2, 1939, in Morrowville. He died Aug. 6, 1981. A resident of Great Bend since 1969, coming from Hays, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Beggs was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Stephens Ministries, Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and Fanshier-Beggs Circle, all of Great Bend, and Daughters of the American Revolution of Hays and Great Bend. Survivors include three daughters, Judith Pierson of Denver, Colo., Mary Ritterhouse of San Antonio, Texas, and Phyllis Bieker of Hays; one brother, Robert Bradshaw of Oxnard, Calif.; one sister, Frances Carlson of Columbus, Neb.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Lester Bradshaw; and two sisters, Corine Bradshaw and Hazel Leonard. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Revs. Dick Near and Jana Baxter officiating. Burial will be at Washington cemetery in Washington. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Firma Boor 1938-2001
LITTLETON, Colo. - Firma Boor, 63, died Oct. 3 in Littleton. She was born Feb. 19, 1938, in Hays, the daughter of Gregory F. and Pauline Graf Pfannenstiel. She married Jerome F. Boor Nov. 21, 1959, in Hays. He died April 25, 1999. A resident of Littleton, she was a nurse. Mrs. Boor was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Bible study group and quilting club. Survivors include two sons, Michael Boor and John Boor; one daughter, Michele Walker; one brother, Greg Pfannenstiel; one sister, Rosiette Gross; and two granddaughters. Funeral was Monday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Englewood, Colo. Inurnment will be at Odin. Memorials are suggested to National Kidney Foundation or American Cancer Society, both in care of Chapel Hill Mortuary in Littleton. Oct. 9, 2001

Terry Lynn Coker 1938-2001
LINDSBORG - Terry Lynn Coker, 63, died Oct. 7 at Lindsborg Community Hospital. He was born Sept. 30, 1938, in Ness City, the son of Fred Lawrence and Emma Irene Ferking Coker. A resident of Lindsborg, coming from Canton, he was a retired truck driver. Coker was a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include one son, Lawrence Lyle "Larry" Coker of Canton; two daughters, Terri Lee Lindholm of Lindsborg and DeAnna Jones of McPherson; two brothers, Wesley Coker of Dighton and Gary Coker of Chase; four sisters, Arlene Cline of Wakeeney, Connie Wagoner of Ellis, Frona Nikkel of McPherson and Linda Chambers of Washington, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William Coker, LaVern Coker and Tom Coker; and three sisters, Freida Coker, Henrietta Wilkison and Erma Morath. Gravesite service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ness City cemetery in Ness City, with the Rev. Jeff Waugh officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Stockham Family Funeral Home in McPherson, with family receiving from 6-8 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 9, 2001

Edgar J. 'Eddie' Basgall 1929-2001
HAYS - Edgar J. "Eddie" Basgall, 72, died Oct. 8 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Loretto, the son of Joseph and Hildegard VonFeldt Basgall. He married Lillian Roth Sept. 14, 1950, in Pfeifer. A resident of Hays, he was a professional musician, arranger and composer; a music tour promoter; owner/operator of Danceland Enterprises; and was a retired music store manager. Basgall was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1325 and fourth-degree bishop of Cunningham Assembly, all of Hays. He was a member of the Bob Hope Radio Show Orchestra and a featured musician with the Bobby mills Orchestra in the 1950s. He formed and directed the Eddie Basgall Band, the Danceland Band and the Jolly Dutchmen, as well as having worked with many bands, including Tiny Hill, the Six Fat Dutchmen and the "Woopee John" Orchestra. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Stan Basgall of Hays, Neal Basgall of Omaha, Neb., and Chad Basgall of Rose Hill; one daughter, Christine Basgall of Omaha; one brother, Marvin Basgall of Great Bend; two sisters, Vera Bellendir and Arbutus "Boots" Maltby, both of Great Bend; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Delbert Basgall. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, followed by a third and fourth degree Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 p.m., all at Cline's Mortuary in Hays. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Don Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Pfeifer. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Thursday and from 8-9:45 a.m. Friday, both at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Charities Inc. or for Masses, all in care of the mortuary. Oct. 9, 2001
