SALINA - Alyce A. Shara, 85, died Nov. 18. She was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Munden. She married Leonard Shara. He died May 27, 1985. A resident of Salina, she worked as a grocery store clerk in Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Cal Shara of Great Bend; one daughter, Kayleen Plowman of Salina; one sister, Elsie Stransky of Belleville; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 4 today at Ryan Mortuary in Salina. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Great Bend cemetery in Great Bend. There is no visitation, cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, in care of the mortuary. Nov. 20, 2001

Erma Maxine Lucille Norland Allen 1923-2001
HOISINGTON - Erma Maxine Lucille Norland Allen, 78, died Nov. 18 at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center. She was born Feb. 6, 1923, in McPherson, the daughter of Elmer and Lillian Aelmore Norland. She married Jack Allen Feb. 6, 1943, in McPherson. He died Dec. 29, 2000. A resident of Hoisington, coming from Great Bend, McPherson and Galva, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Allen was a member of First Christian Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, James Emery Allen of Pittsburg; one daughter, Janice L. Allen of Hoisington; one sister, Violet Lundquist of McPherson; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by five brothers; and two sisters. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in McPherson, with the Revs. Bill Johnson and Paula Bell officiating. Burial will be at New Gottland cemetery in McPherson. Friends may call until 8 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church in McPherson. Memorials are suggested to the church in Great Bend, New Gottland cemetery Fund in McPherson or Interfaith Volunteer Caregiver in Great Bend, all in care of the funeral home. Nov. 20, 2001

Lavinia Lucille Skinner 1923-2001
Lavinia Lucille Skinner, 78, of Great Bend, died Nov. 19 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 19, 1923, in Sedalia, Mo., the daughter of Leonard G. and Maggie Turpin Lowery. She married Roy E. Skinner June 2, 1952, in Oklamoge, Okla. A resident of Great Bend for nine years, coming from Lake Elsinore, Calif., she was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, John L. Skinner of Humbolt, Texas, Roy L. Skinner of Lyons and Corwin L. Skinner of Great Bend; one daughter, Debra L. Baregar of Hemet, Calif.; one sister, Emily Tanquary of Enumclaw, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carla K. Rude. There is no listed funeral time or visitation time and no memorials are suggested. Funeral arrangements are by Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend. Nov. 20, 2001

Bernice 'Ruth' Luckert 1931-2001
PERRY, Okla. - Bernice "Ruth" Luckert, 69, died Nov. 19 at her residence in Perry. She was born Dec. 4, 1931, in Great Bend, the daughter of Robert and Iva Clawson Brown. She married Ernest Roy Luckert Oct. 19, 1952, in Great Bend. A resident of Perry, coming from Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Luckert was a member of First Christian Church of Perry and Cherokee Strip Quilters Guild. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Vernon Luckert of Ottawa and Galen Luckert of League City, Texas; three daughters, Kathy Embers of Winfield, Margaret Bolay of Perry and Jeannine Howell of McLoud, Okla.; one brother, Charles Robert Brown of Great Bend; two sisters, Mary Frances Hutchings of Scott City and Barbara Jane Wooten of Fort Worth, Texas; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Martin Brown; and two sisters, Vera Grace Wilson and Anna Lou Fenstermacher. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Diane Stein officiating. Burial will be at Grace Hill cemetery in Perry. No visitation is listed. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church Building Fund or Judith Karman Hospice, both in care of Brown-Sisson Funeral Home in Perry. Nov. 20, 2001

Janice Lynn Millard 1953-2001
Janice Lynn Millard, 48, of Great Bend, died Nov. 17 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. She was born Jan. 8, 1953, in Hoisington, the daughter of Jack V. and Betty A. Stehwein Millard. A 17-year resident of Great Bend, coming from Hoisington, she worked at Sunflower Diversified Services in Great Bend. She was a member of First Church of God in Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Paul M. Millard of Great Bend; her mother of Hoisington; three brothers, Terry Millard and Jack Millard, both of Great Bend, and Kelly Millard of Burlington, Wis.; and three sisters, Susan Craven of Great Bend, Norma Adamavich of Milwaukee, Wis., and Tracy Luttrell of Hoisington. She was preceded in death by one infant brother, Richard Millard; and one sister, Mari Gay Cook. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Inurnment will be at Hoisington cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Topeka Community Transplant Foundation, all in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Nov. 19, 2001

Kenneth M. Saffer 1931-2001
Kenneth M. Saffer, 70, of Great Bend, died Nov. 17 in Barton County. He was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Brownville, Neb., the son of Mr. and Mrs. LaMark Conita Jasper Saffer. He married Anna Louise Wood Dec. 26, 1979, in Miami, Okla. A lifelong area resident, he worked as a pipe cleaner for Great Plains Pipeline Company. Saffer was a member of First Bible Baptist Church in Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Kenneth Martin Saffer II of Kansas City, Mo.; four stepsons, Chico Henry of Hutchinson, Michael Payton and Bill Henry, both of Dewey, Okla., and Mark Allen Payton of Bartlesville, Okla.; six daughters, LaWana Metcalfe, Elizabeth Saffer and Wanda Saffer, all of Emporia, Brenda Saffer of Hutchinson, Amanda Parker of Wichita and Shirley Atchison; three brothers, Ed Saffer of Emporia, Doyle Saffer of Americus and Truman Saffer of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Shirley Francis of Emporia and Barbara Dains of Strong City; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister and three grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home Chapel in Great Bend, with the Rev. Robert Morris officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 6-9 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Charles E. Allen 1969-2001
Charles E. Allen, 32, of Great Bend, died Nov. 17 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Feb. 21, 1969, in Dermott, Ark., the son of Joe and Annie B. Flower Matthews. A resident of Great Bend since 1991, coming from Montrose, Ark., he was a supervisor at Great Bend Manufacturing. Allen attended First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend. Survivors include four sons, Charles E. Grayson and Stephen Johnson, both of Great Bend, Marcus Allen and Christopher Allen, both of Pawnee Rock; three daughters, Laquishia L. Grayson, Lakeisha S. Allen and Maisha R. Allen, all of Great Bend; his mother, Annie B. Pitts of Montrose; his companion, Deborah A. Grayson of Great Bend; six brothers, Herman Pitts of Great Bend, Joe Matthews of Montrose, Donnie McComb and Howell Pitts, both of California, Graylin James and LeRoy James, both of Hutchinson; and seven sisters, Joyce McComb, Brenda McComb, Felicia Matthews, Cynthia Matthews, Rose McComb and Phyllis McComb, all of Montrose, and Shirley McComb of Pine Bluff, Ark. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Brian Norvell officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of the funeral home. Nov. 19, 2001

George R. Irvine 1912-2001
STAFFORD - George R. Irvine, 89, died Nov. 16 at Stafford District Hospital in Stafford. He was born May 14, 1912, in Stafford, the son of Alfred and Ollie Newell Irvine. He was 1929 graduate of Stafford High School and attended Kansas State University majoring in agricultural engineering. He married Verla Lovell in 1935. She died in 1975. He married Marjorie Allen in 1976. She died in 1996. A lifelong resident of Stafford, he was a farmer, cattleman and land appraiser. Irvine was a member of United Methodist Church in Stafford, charter member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at KSU, KSU Foundation President's Club, Stafford County Wheat Growers Association, trustee of the church, Republican Precinct chairman, past member of the board of education for Eureka Country School, and chairman of Stafford Independent Co-op. Survivors include two daughters, Janis Corbin of Houston, Texas, and Joleen Hill of Manhattan; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Irvine and Leota Douglass. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Kasey Crosby officiating. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. today at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Memorials are suggested to the George R. Irvine Agricultural Scholarship or to the church, both in care of the funeral chapel. Ruth Blanche Siefers 1919-2001
ELLINWOOD - Ruth Blanche Siefers, 82, died Nov. 16 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Great Bend, the daughter of Bertram Clarence and Julia Ann Koontz Hull. She married John J. Siefers April 19, 1938, at Great Bend. He died Nov. 10, 1988. A lifelong resident of Barton County, she was a retired clerk for Gaylors Variety store, retired secretary at St. Joseph Parish in Ellinwood and editor of Rock Hound Scoop. Mrs. Siefers was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Ellinwood. Survivors include two sons, Larry Siefers and Terry Siefers, both of Ellinwood; one daughter, Beth Ann Olson of Topeka; one sister, Hazel Mae Risley of Wichita; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. today followed by a vigil service, both at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. David Flagor officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1-8 today at the funeral home. Carlis B. Walter 1907-2001
Carlis B. Walter, 94, of Great Bend died Nov. 15 at his home in Great Bend. He was born July 3, 1907, in Seward County, the son of Joseph Andrew and Lucy Bishop Lacy Walter. He married Ruby Luther Dec. 21, 1933, in Great Bend. She died Aug. 28, 2000. A resident of Great Bend for 61 years, he was driller in the oil industry before his retirement. Walter was a past member of the Hudson Methodist Church in Hudson. Survivors include two sons, Loren S. Walter of San Antonio, Texas, and Gary S. Walter of Holt, Mo.; two daughters, Janet M. Albrecht of Farmington, N.M., and Alma J. Walter of Great Bend; one sister, Fern Satterfield of Filmore, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Bernice A. Stilts and Carla J. McGlynn; four brothers, Clifton Walter, the Rev. Gerald Walter, Joe Walter and Bruce Walter; four sisters, Vivian La Orange, Lorene Lett, Velnia Walter and La Von Gates; and three grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 am Monday at Fryberger Mortuary Chapel in Great Bend with the Rev. Doyle Smith officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Viola Margaret Dillon 1912-2001
HOISINGTON - Viola Margaret Dillon, 89, died Nov. 17, at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center in Hoisington. She was born Oct. 12, 1912, at Flush, the daughter of John Joseph and Magdalene Mary Hammersmith Unterberger. She married Elvin H. Dillon March 17, 1944, at Camp Polk, La. He died May 16, 1967. A resident of Hoisington since 1978, coming from Manhattan, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Dillon was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society, both in Hoisington. Survivors include two sons, Roger Dillon of Hoisington and John Dillon of Basalt, Colo.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Leo Unterberger; and three sisters, Loetta Eckert, Sister M. Victoria Unterberger and Genevieve Unterberger. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Manhattan. Theodore L. Henry 1925-2001
Theodore L. Henry, 76, of Great Bend, died Nov. 16 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Feb. 10, 1925, at Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Roy and Hazel Baker Henry. He married Mareah Salt Nov. 23, 1955, in Clarinda, Iowa. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Shenandoah, he was a retired custodian for USD 428. Henry was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Tim L. Henry of Great Bend and Ed C. Collier of Shreveport, La.; one daughter, Iris Feltner of Burlington, Ky.; one sister, Merrilee Marshall of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Willis Henry, Donald Henry and Eugene Henry. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Mark Pennington officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home.
