Alvin Ray Crotinger 1935-2002
CARSON, Calif. - Alvin Ray Crotinger, 66, died Jan. 15 at his home in Carson. He was born Aug. 27, 1935, in Bison. The son of Chester H. and Ollie V. Butler Crotinger. He was a 1954 graduate of Bison High School. He married Lela Crotinger. A resident of Carson, he was retired from the Los Angeles City Fire Department. Crotinger was a member of Lord of Bethany Church in Long Beach, where he served as a deacon and on the board of trustees. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Cheryl Crotinger, Janet Vuoso and Diane Meneses; one brother, Ned Crotinger of Alexandria, Ind.; three sisters, Fern Axman, Beth Schneider and Ruthetta Hursh, all of Great Bend; and three grandchildren. Funeral was Jan. 19 at Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. Burial was at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. There are no memorials listed. Feb. 6, 2002

Thelma J. Lane 1931-2002
Thelma J. Lane, 70, of Great Bend, died Feb. 6 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born April 19, 1931, in Hoisington, the daughter of John and Katherine Zimmerman Herdt. She married Darrell L. Lane Oct. 4, 1954, in Hoisington. He died June 26, 1998. A longtime resident of Great Bend, coming from Hoisington, she was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, David Lane of Emporia and Ron Lane of Spokane, Wash.; one daughter, Katherine Mortimer of Great Bend; two sisters, Elsie Eagles of Hutchinson and Wilma Boyer of Great Bend; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one step-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Lane; and two brothers, Elmer Herdt and Herman Herdt. Graveside service was at 11 a.m. today at Hoisington cemetery in Hoisington, with the Rev. Don Fisher officiating. There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Feb. 7, 2002

Morris Dale Crouse 1933-2002
ALBERT - Morris Dale Crouse, 68, died Feb. 7 at his home in Albert. He was born July 8, 1933, in Great Bend, the son of Abram Leedy and Neva Viola Brown Crouse. He married Elaine Helen Mauler May 28, 1957, in Great Bend. A resident of Albert for 43 years, coming from Great Bend, he worked as the postmaster in Albert, before retiring in 1989. Crouse was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Olmitz, Knights of Columbus, 4th degree, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and volunteer at the fire department for 30 years, all in Albert and worked for 27 years for the U.S. Weather Department in river gauging and rain gauging. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, David Morris Crouse of Lehigh, Daniel Alan Crouse of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Donald Ward Crouse of Great Bend, Douglas Brian Crouse of Salina and Dennis Dale Crouse of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Evelyn Marie Hoglund of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Melvin Crouse of Philadelphia, Pa.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence Crouse, David Bishop and LeRoy Bishop. Vigil service followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Revs. Ultan Murphy and Eugene Kenny officiating. Burial will be at St. Annis cemetery in Olmitz. Friends may call until 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Health and Hospice, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 8, 2002

John M.B. Carey Jr. 1956-2002
HOUSTON, Texas - John M.B. Carey Jr., 45, died Feb. 7 at Bentaub Hospital in Houston. He was born Oct. 25, 1956, in Hutchinson, the son of John M. and Patricia J. Bosse Carey. He was a resident of Houston since 1961, coming from Hutchinson. Survivors include his father of Hutchinson; and one sister, Pamela L. Carey of Hutchinson. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood, with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 5-8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to Thomas Care Center in Houston, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 8, 2002

Kelly Robin Beakey 1958-2002
Kelly Robin Beakey, 43, of Great Bend, died Feb. 6 at her home in Great Bend. She was born July 8, 1958, in Hoisington, the daughter of Kenneth Ellwood and Lois A. Turner Bath. A lifetime resident of the Great Bend area, she was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Kory Jones of Great Bend; two daughters, Whitney Jones and Kendra Beakey, both of Great Bend; her father of Grove, Okla.; her mother and stepfather, Lois A. and Kenneth Wells of Great Bend; two brothers, Kenneth Ellwood Bath Jr. of Topeka and Kriss Bath of Gas; and one sister, Kathy Leisy of Niwot, Colo. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Great Bend Family Mortuary, with the Rev. Kevin Baxter officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Kelly R. Beakey Memorial Fund, in care of the mortuary. Feb. 8, 2002

Dwight L. Schneider 1944-2002
LA CROSSE - Dwight L. Schneider, 57, died Feb. 6 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. He was born May 10, 1944, in Hays, the son of Oswald Edwin and Ruth Lillian Bailey Schneider. He was a 1963 graduate of La Crosse Rural High School. A lifelong resident of La Crosse, he was a farmer. Schneider was a member of EUB Church in La Crosse. Survivors include his father of Great Bend; one brother, Marvin K. Schneider of La Crosse; and two sisters, Sharon K. McCroskey and Rita A. Schaffer, both of Topeka. Graveside service was at 10 a.m. today at La Crosse City cemetery in La Crosse, with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. There was no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Central Rush County Emergency Medical Service, in care of Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Feb. 8, 2002

Virginia Tammen 1915-2002
RED LODGE, Mont. - Virginia Tammen, 86, died Feb. 6 at her home in Red Lodge. She was born March 16, 1915, in Great Bend, the daughter of George E. and Pearl Lloyd Planck. She was a graduate of Great Bend High School and a 1959 graduate of Glockner-Penrose Hospital School of Nursing in Colorado Springs, Colo. She married Karl Krueger. He preceded her in death. She married Herman A. Tammen. He preceded her in death also. A resident of Red Lodge, coming from Colorado Springs, she worked as a licensed practical nurse, surgical nurse and an office nurse before she retired. Survivors include four daughters, Jodie Scherer of Colorado Springs, Kathy Schugart of Great Bend, Barbara Seeling of Buena Vista, Colo., and Connie Paulson of Red Lodge; one half-sister, Ruth Clark of Walnut Creek; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge. Her body was donated to WWAMI Medical Science Program at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. Memorials are suggested to Beartooth Hospice in Red Lodge, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 8, 2002

Clyde C. Ramey 1929-2002
STAFFORD - Clyde C. Ramey, 72, died Feb. 6 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born March 6, 1929, in Citronelle, Ala., the son of Walter and Rose Dickenson Ramey. He married Marie Riley Aug. 23, 1986, in Wichita. A resident of Stafford since 1986, coming from Alabama, he was an instrument mechanic in the civil service. Ramey was a member of Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. Survivors include one son, David Ramey of Pensacola, Fla.; three brothers, Walter Ramey of Huntsville, Ala., Curtis Ramey of Mobile, Ala., and Howard Ramey of Suwanee, Ga.; one sister, Shirley Shaver of Theodore, Ala.; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one son, Clyde "Pat" C. Ramey II; and one stepson, William Smith. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford, with Richard Foster officiating. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel, with family receiving friends from 7-8 tonight. Memorials are suggested to Stafford Church of Christ, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 8, 2002

Rita I. Herrman 1947-2002
LIEBENTHAL - Rita I. Herrman, 54, died Feb. 8 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. She was born March 18, 1947, at Quinter, the daughter of Tony and Francis Melroy Kaiser. She married James Artee Herrman June 2, 1967, at Colby. A resident of Liebenthal since 1968, coming from Oakley, she was a cook for USD 395. Mrs. Herrman was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. Ann's Altar Society, both of Liebenthal, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2864 of Grinnell. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, James Lee Herrman of McKinney, Texas, John Anthony Herrman of Shawnee Mission and Justin James Herrman of Liebenthal; one stepson, Mike Herrman of Liebenthal; three brothers, Bob Kaiser of Wichita, Raymond Kaiser of Colby and Jerry Kaiser of Hays; and one sister, Marlene Wolf of Grinnell. Prayer service and Altar Society rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's cemetery in Liebenthal. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Liebenthal Heritage Association or Hays Medical Center, Cancer Center in Hays, both in care of the funeral home. Feb. 10, 2002

Fredrick 'Dudley' Schutte 1920-2002
LA CROSSE - Fredrick "Dudley" Schutte, 81, died Feb. 6 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born May 20, 1920, at McCracken, the son of George Orlando and Lottie Bell Blake Schutte. He married Florence Wilhelm Nov. 12, 1943, at Paso Robles, Calif. A lifelong resident of Rush County, he owned a radio and TV repair service for more than 30 years, and was city manager of La Crosse for 10 years. Schutte was a member of United Methodist Church in La Crosse and the American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he received the American Campaign medal, Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Thomas Schutte of Pretty Prairie, Mark Schutte of Wichita and Mike Schutte of Hays; one brother, James Schutte of Great Bend; and two grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Janousek Funeral Home Chapel in La Crosse, with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Northwest Kansas Stroke Support Group of Hays, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 10, 2002

Mabel M. Schroeder 1911-2002
ALVA, Okla. - Mabel M. Schroeder, 90, died Feb. 8 at Alva Share Hospital at Alva. She was born July 14, 1911, at Freedom, Okla., the daughter of Peter and Louisa Hoft Shurts. She attended schools in Oklahoma, Kansas and Washington. She married Jim L. Schroeder April 16, 1932. He died Aug. 27, 1990. She was a resident of Alva since 1990, coming from Freedom. Survivors include two sons Max Schroeder of Hoisington and Jim R. Schroeder of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Pat Pollino of Alva and Bonita Morrill of Las Gatos, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Elaine Schroeder, and nine brothers and sisters. A private graveside service will be held at Freedom Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Haney officiating. Memorials are suggested to Northwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation, in care of Wharton Funeral Chapel of Alva. Feb. 10, 2002

Robert L. Curran 1929-2002
Robert L. Curran, 72 of Great Bend, died Feb. 7 at his home in Great Bend. He was born April 23, 1929, at Carthage, the son of Dudley L. and Edith Esther Kiger Curran. He married Helen R. Gibson, Dec. 30, 1956, at Billings, Mo. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Louisville, Ky., he was a retired insurance adjuster for Continental Insurance Co. Curran was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Optimist Club and Cougar Booster Club, all of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Airforce and U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Thomas L. Curran of Great Bend; one daughter, Susan C. Schneweis of Ellinwood; and seven grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Hal Staats officiating. There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the church or Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Feb. 10, 2002

Jerry Lee Wellbrock 1936-2002
WICHITA - Jerry Lee Wellbrock, 65, died Feb. 8. He was born July 4, 1936, at Victoria, the son of Herman and Sally Wellbrock. He married Norma Jean Dreiling Sept. 8, 1956. She died Oct. 15, 1987. He was a former employee of Allen Welding and Lightner Welding. Wellbrock was a member of 4th Degree of Victoria, Knights of Columbus of Wichita. Survivors include two sons, Brian Wellbrock and Bradley Wellbrock, both of Wichita; two daughters, Barbara Alexander and Brenda Crownover, both of Wichita; two brothers, Ralph Wellbrock and Donald Wellbrock, both of Hays; two sisters, Melene Rohr of Wichita and Doris Schmidt of Catherine; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Jerry Francis Wellbrock, Gary Wellbrock, Leon Wellbrock, Milton Wellbrock, and LeRoy Wellbrock. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. tonight at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Wichita. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be at White Chapel cemetery in Wichita. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or St. Francis of Assisi and Chapel Hill Fellowship, in care of DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary in Wichita. Feb. 10, 2002

Jack A. Mauser 1928-2002
MULVANE - Jack A. Mauser, 73, died Feb. 7. He was born Dec. 12, 1928, at Lyons, the son of Roy and Agnes Barnhardt Mauser. He married Mary O'Mara Nov. 9, 1957, at Colorado Springs, Colo. A resident of Mulvane, coming from Great Bend and Hutchinson, he was a retired highway construction superintendent, estimator and inspector. Mauser was a member of American Legion, the Midian Shrine and Masonic Lodge, past Scout Master and Cub Master, past president of the Kansas Aggregate Association, and charter member and past president of Central Kansas Builders Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Roy Dale Mauser of Mulvane, Harry Price of Rose Hill and Lex Price of Emporia; one daughter, Terri Lynn Brown of Wichita; one brother, Robert Mauser of Plantation, Fla.; and three grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Senter-Smith Mortuary in Mulvane. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Union cemetery in Emporia. Friends may call from 1-8 today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Home Health and Hospice in Derby, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 10, 2002
