Lorraine M. Herrman 1916 - 2002
LIEBENTHAL - Lorraine M. Herrman, 85, died Oct. 10 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. She was born Oct. 13, 1916 in Ellis, the daughter of Jacob J. and Katherine (Niernberger) Bollig. A lifelong resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Herrman was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society, both of Liebenthal. Survivors include: two daughters, Arlene Taylor of Aurora, CO and Gloria Anders of Liebenthal; three brothers, Bill Bollig of Hays, Albert Bollig of Aurora, and Clarence Bollig of St. Peter; three sisters, Frances Holzmeister of Grinnell, Jo Heier of Monument, and Lou Dreiling of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Herrman in 2001; four brothers, Alfred Bollig, Al Bollig, Ed Bollig, and Walter Bollig; and four sisters, Seraphine Bollig, Ruby Bollig, Fina Scheck, and Angie Newman. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Liebenthal with Father Charles Mazouch officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Liebenthal. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Janousek Funeral Home in Liebenthal. A vigil service and St. Ann's Altar Society rosary will be held 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's Heritage Association.

Ida Ann Rziha 1917 - 2002
HOISINGTON - Ida Ann Rziha, 85, died Oct. 12 at CKMC St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 19, 1917 in Barton County, the daughter of Frank Joseph and Mary Louise (Frenzl) Huschka. She married Edward J. Wendel on Feb. 14, 1934 at St. Peter and Paul in Ellinwood. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1969. She married Joseph Rziha on Oct. 28, 1972. A longtime Hoisington resident, she was a homemaker and co-owned and operated Cheyenne Locker for 25 years, later working for the Hoisington Veterinary Hospital. Mrs. Rziha was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Odin. Survivors include: her husband of the home; one son, Kenneth E. Wendel of Carrollton, Texas; one daughter, Marlene M. Palmer of Great Bend; two brothers, Martin Huschka of Garden City and LeRoy Huschka of Mesa, AZ; three sisters, Frances Sessler of Ellinwood, Leona Klein of Ellinwood, and Evelyn Behr of Hoisington; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two great granddaughters; and seven step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank J. Huschka, Jr., Leonard Huschka, Albert Huschka, Edward Huschka, and Eugene Huschka; and one sister, Marie Doll. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 15 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church north of Ellinwood with Father Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Ellinwood. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home followed by an Altar Society rosary. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Seminary Burse (vocations) in care of the funeral home. Oct. 13, 2002

Ruth E. Brunts 1912 - 2002
CLAFLIN - Ruth E. Brunts, 90, died Oct. 9 at the Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood. She was born June 8, 1912 in Claflin, the daughter of Edward R. and Lydia (Hofmeister) Ruch. She married George W. Brunts on June 19, 1942 at Cheyenne, WY. He preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 2001. A lifetime resident of Claflin, she was a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell and a librarian at Independent Township Library in Claflin. Mrs. Brunts was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, a member of UMW and Order of Eastern Star, all of Claflin. Survivors include: two sons, Richard and wife Ruthie Brunts of Great Bend and George W. Brunts, Jr. of Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Janice J. Brunts of Arlington, MA and Susan J. Brunts Smith of Sandy Hook, CT; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Gloria Lynn Brunts, and a half-sister, Viola Schultz. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at the United Methodist Church in Claflin with the Rev. Janet Myers officiating. Burial will be at Claflin Cemetery, Claflin. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 till service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church or Independent Township Library, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 13, 2002

Gladys W. Shank-Juvenal 1903 - 2002
BISON - Gladys W. Shank-Juvenal, 99, died Oct. 11 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. She was born July 11, 1903 in Olmitz, the daughter of Martin Luther and Martha Ellen (Moore) Harmon. She married Alva Shank on May 31, 1922. He preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1949. She married Harry Juvenal on Feb. 26, 1961. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1986. A lifelong resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Shank-Juvenal was a member of Sunshine FCE and Just Older Youth, both of Bison. Survivors include: two daughters-in-law, Elizabeth Shank of Haven and Erma Shank-Wood of Bison; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Shank and Neil Shank; one daughter, Wanda Greenwald; two brothers, Earl Harmon and Luther Harmon; five sisters, Edna Lyda, Marita "Billy" Bearce, Letha Yost, Agnes Offutt, and Mildred Krause-Hays; and one great granddaughter. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse with the Rev. Kathy Bannister officiating. Interment will be in the La Crosse Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association or the Arthritis Foundation. Oct. 13, 2002

Lilly Schultz 1908-2002
ELLSWORTH - Lilly Schultz, 94, died Oct. 13 at Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth. She was born Jan. 20, 1908, in Ellsworth County, the daughter of Carl and Sophia Schultz Kohls. She married Walter Schultz on May 2, 1928, at Ellsworth. He died July 2, 1971. A lifetime resident of Ellsworth, she was a cook at Ellsworth Senior Center and held various sales positions. Mrs. Schultz was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Ellsworth, Ladies Aide, Good Samaritan Auxiliary and a volunteer for Cards and Coffee Shop, all of Ellsworth. Survivors include one son, Lloyd Schultz of Long Beach, Calif.; six daughters, Dolores Mason of Great Bend, Gladys Schroeder of Austin, Texas, Shirley Olson of Manhattan, Janice "Big J" Sneath of Kanopolis, Karen Kohlmeier of Sabetha and Joyce Schultz of Salina; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack Kohls, Emil Kohls, Ed Kohls and Ernie Kohls; and two sisters, Sophia and Anna. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Donald Ehrke officiating. Burial will be at Ellsworth Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or Good Samaritan Retirement Village, both in care of the funeral home. Oct. 14, 2002

Rose Bernadine Divis Oborny 1911-2002
LA CROSSE - Rose Bernadine Divis Oborny, 91, died Oct. 12 at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care of La Crosse. She was born March 12, 1911, on a farm near Schuyler, Neb., the daughter of Matej "Mike" and Frantiska "Frances" Kroupa Divis. She married Rudolph J. Oborny on Nov. 26, 1935, at Schuyler. He died Feb. 3, 1997. A lifetime resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker and assisted her husband in farming. Mrs. Oborny was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Ann's Altar Society and Catholic Workman Lodge 133, all of Timken. Survivors include 47 nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Divis; one sister, Julia Sindelar; one half brother, Frank Divis; and one half sister, Martha Kudera. Vigil service and St. Ann's Altar Society Rosary will be at 7 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home of La Crosse. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Revs. Charles Mazouch and Henry Baxa officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery of Timken. Friends may call from 1-8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care of La Crosse, both in care of the funeral home. Ralph S. Tucker 1923-2002
WICHITA - Ralph S. Tucker, 79, died Oct. 11. He married Mary L. She preceded him in death. A resident of Wichita, he was a retired mechanic for Vulcan Chemical Company. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with four battle stars, distinguished Flying Cross, Good Conduct medal, Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster and distinguished Unit Badge. Survivors include two sons, Keith D. Tucker of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Greg A. Tucker of San Francisco, Calif.; two daughters, Gwyn Tucker of Wichita and Joyce Carter of Great Bend; five brothers, James Tucker of Anza, Calif., Murl Tucker of Stanton, Calif., Conrad Tucker of Henderson, Nev., Sam Tucker of Benton, Ark., and Norman Tucker of Bryant, Ark.; one sister, Dortha Wright of Hemet, Calif.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Tucker. Funeral service was held Oct. 14 at Resthaven Mortuary of Wichita. Memorials are suggested to Ralph S. Tucker Memorial Fund, in care of the mortuary. Oct. 15, 2002

Doris E. Rugan 1926-2002
DENISON, Texas - Doris E. Rugan, 76, die Oct. 12 at Denison. She was born March 25, 1926, the daughter of Herrman and Anna Mall Lewis. She married Walter Rugan at Great Bend. He died Oct. 24, 1998. A resident of Denison for one year, coming from Bella Vista, Ark., she was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. Ms. Rugan was a former member of Grace United Church of Christ and Telephone Pioneers, both of Great Bend. Survivors include two sons, Steven Rugan of Whitewright, Texas, and Michael Rugan of Hutchinson; one daughter, Kristi Bryant of Great Bend; one sister, Marie Lawrence of Bentonville, Ark.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be announced. Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend. Oct. 15, 2002

Frank Carl Keller 1925-2002
YUMA, Ariz. - Frank Carl Keller, 77, died Oct. 11 at Yuma. He was born Aug. 4, 1925, at Albert, the son of Charles and Emma Schnee Keller. He married Frances Grenier on April 22, 1961, at Great Bend. A resident of Arizona since 1993, he was a longtime resident of Barton County. Survivors include his wife of the home; and one brother, Lynn Keller. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bennie Keller. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at a later date at Great Bend Cemetery. Yuma Mortuary and Crematory of Yuma is in charge of arrangements. Oct. 15, 2002

Nevella Lumpkins 1917-2002
HAYS - Nevella Lumpkins, 85, died Oct. 14 at Hays Medical Center. She was born May 4, 1917, on a farm three miles west of Plainville, the daughter of Ernest and Bessie Bair Benedick. She married Marion Lumpkins Feb. 14, 1934, in Stockton. He died Oct. 22, 1998. She was a lifetime member of Plainville Christian Church. Survivors include one son, Bill Lumpkins of Plainville; two daughters, Marilyn Gibson of Arvada, Colo., and Faye Taylor of Heizer; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Clark; and two sisters, Della Lumpkins and Alice Benedick; and one great-grandaughter. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Verle Clark officiating. Burial will be at Plainville Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church in her name in care of the funeral home.

Frank D. Henney 1912-2002
HOISINGTON - Frank D. Henney, 90, died Oct. 14 at Cheyenne Meadows Living Center in Hoisington. He was born April 8, 1912, in Rice County, the son of Charles R. and Anna S. Ferguson Henney. He married Elma M. Rose on Nov. 29, 1934, in Scott County. She died March 9, 2002. A resident of Hoisington for 50 years, coming from Scott City and Little River, he was a farmer and worked for Missouri Pacific Trucklines as a truck driver. Henney was a member of the Methodist faith. Survivors include one daughter, Velda Joyce Speight of Porter, Minn.; one sister, Eileen Fry of Marshall, Mich.; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Max Henney; and one sister, Lorene Brown. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home of Hoisington with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 16, 2002

Magdalene 'Peggy' Steiner 1920-2002
HOISINGTON - Magdalene "Peggy" Steiner, 82, died Oct. 14 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus of Wichita. She was born Feb. 21, 1920, at Olmitz, the daughter of William and Emily Spitzka Schenk. She married Leonard Steiner on Sept. 24, 1940, at Olmitz. He died April 17, 1997. A lifetime resident of the Olmitz and Hoisington area, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Steiner was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Hoisington and St. Ann's Altar Society of Olmitz. Survivors include three sons, William J. Steiner of Olmitz, Donald L. Steiner of Plano, Texas, and Kenneth R. Steiner of Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Kathy Phillips of Emporia; four brothers, Harold Schenk and Bernard Schenk, both of Great Bend, Edwin Schenk of Olmitz and Robert Schenk of Hoisington; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Steiner; one brother, William C. Schenk; and one sister, Christine Steiner. Wake service followed by Altar Society rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Ann Catholic Church of Olmitz with the Rev. Ultan Murphy officiating. Burial will be at St. Ann cemetery of Olmitz. Friends may call from 1-8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home of Hoisington. Memorials are suggested to American Red Cross, St. Ann Catholic Church of Olmitz or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Hoisington, all in care of the funeral home. Oct. 16, 2002

Kenneth S. Pfunder 1922-2002
LAWRENCE - Kenneth S. Pfunder, 79, died Oct. 15 at his residence in Lawrence. He was born Dec. 21, 1922, at Sedalia, Mo., the son of George William and Luella Matthews Pfunder. He married Annette Nowland on Jan. 17, 1942, at Kansas City. A resident of Lawrence since 1987, he worked for the Lincoln Mercury dealerships in Kansas City, Mo., Dodge City and Great Bend, until he retired in 1984 as the general manager of the Lincoln Mercury dealership of Great Bend. Pfunder was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was also a member of Dorsey-Liberty Host of the American Legion and Stoney Point Christian Church in Kansas City. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Sandra Jo Denney of Lawrence; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Dean Pfunder who died April 5, 1993. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home of Lawrence. The body has been cremated. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care in Douglas County, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 17, 2002
