Lucille F. Spreier 1910-2002
LARNED - Lucille F. Spreier, 91, died Oct. 14 at Wesley Towers of Hutchinson. She was born Oct. 26, 1910, in Pawnee County, the daughter of William and Heloise Hughes Martin. She married Fred J. Spreier on July 22, 1933, in Pawnee County. He died Oct. 1, 1980. A lifetime resident of Larned, she was a teacher, housewife and record keeper at Larned State Hospital. Mrs. Spreier was a member of First Baptist Church, Best in the West, LI-AR-MU, Bowling League and Ladies Aid Tuesday Brunch, all of Larned. Survivors include two sons, Donald Spreier of Larned and Joe Spreier of Newton; and two daughters, Eleanor Peterson of Hutchinson and Shirlene Ladd of Phoenix, Ariz. She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel of Larned with the Rev. John Hester officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary. Oct. 17, 2002

Joyce Ann Besthorn 1935-2002
CLAFLIN - Joyce Ann Besthorn, 67, died Oct. 4 at Haysville Healthcare Center of Haysville. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Holyrood with the Rev. Mary Lou Klein officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Kansas 4-H Foundation or Claflin Ambulance, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home of Hoisington. Oct. 17, 2002

Aileen B. Giebler 1922-2002
HAYS - Aileen B. Giebler, 80, died Oct. 15 at Wesley Medical Center of Wichita. She was born June 7, 1922, at Hays, the daughter of Peter and Barbara Bittel Weigel. She received her LPN degree from St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing of Hays. She married Walter C. "Wally" Giebler on Feb. 17, 1941, at Hays. He died Sept. 26, 2000. A resident of Hays, she was an LPN at Hadley Hospital of Hays until her retirement. Mrs. Giebler was a member of St. Joseph's Church of Hays. Survivors include two sons, Philip Giebler of Garden City and Christopher Giebler of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Nancy Williams of Great Bend and Marlene Brown of Mankato; two brothers, Tony Weigel of Denver, Colo., and Norman Weigel of Aurora; one sister, Petrina Sexton of Palm Bay, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Patrick Brown. Parish vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Brock's North Hill Chapel of Hays. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Earl Befort officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery of Hays. Friends may call from 3-8 tonight and from 8:30-9:45 a.m. Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels of Hays, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 17, 2002

Lawrence 'Larry' R. Wasson 1936 - 2002
BELPRE - Lawrence "Larry" R. Wasson, 66, died Oct. 18 at Galichia Park Hospital in Wichita. He was born March 20, 1936 in Garden City, the son of Lawrence O. and Beatrice A. Wasson. He graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree iin Agriculture Education. He married Fredys L. Miller on June 3, 1956 in Garden City. A resident of Belpre for 12 years, coming from Wilroads Gardens and Holcomb, he was an educator. Wasson was a member of Belpre United Methodist Church, Belpre, Society for Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, and the National Education Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Larry V. Wasson of Idaho Falls, ID, Edwin E. Wasson of Baldwin, and Rodney R. Wasson of Sublette; three daughters, Kay Luna of Leavenworth, Dawn D. Thiel of Garden City, and Marla W. Wasson of Denver, CO; a brother, Kenneth Wasson of Rolla; and a sister, Peggy Schmidt of Golden, CO. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Arin A. Wasson. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Grace United Methodist in Macksville, with Pastor Dr. David Upp officiating. Burial will be at Belpre cemetery in Belpre. There will be no visitation, as the body was cremated. Memorials are suggested to ABC Pregnancy Center in Garden City or Childrens Logopedics in Wichita. Oct. 20, 2002

James Waldo Arwood 1912 - 2002
LYONS - James Waldo Arwood, 90, died Oct. 18 at Lyons District Hospital in Lyons. He was born Feb. 24, 1912 in Kearney County, the son of James William and Flora Lee Champion Arwood. He married Jenny Lee Davies on Aug. 5, 1934 in Hutchinson. A resident of Lyons since 1944, he was owner and operator of Lyons Radiator Service from 1944 until his retirement in 1978. Arwood attended United Methodist Church and Methodist Men, both of Lyons, and was a past member of the Odd Fellows of Lyons and Nickerson. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Jim Arwood of Phoenix, AZ; three daughters, Nancy Arwood of Denver, CO, Polly Delehant of Shenandoah, IA, and Sally Beydler of Great Bend; one brother, Arnold Arwood of Lyons; 11 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Bolton; five sisters, Florence Zumalt, Irene Roelfs, Neva Belt, Nellie Bartel, and Wilma Kauzer; one brother, Harold Arwood; and three infant brothers. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Lyons with the Rev. Cindy Watson officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal cemetery in Lyons. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the church or Rice County Council on Aging in care of the funeral home. Oct. 20, 2002

Walter B. Moore, Jr. 1929 - 2002
GREAT BEND - Walter B. Moore, Jr., 73, died Oct. 17 at his residence. He was born May 25, 1929 in Chicago, IL, the son of Walter B. and Lillian Bargerhuff Moore. He married LaVerna Ohnmacht on Sept. 8, 1956 in Chicago. A resident of Great Bend for seven years, coming from Chicago, he was a retired Supervising Wreck Master for Penn Central & Conrail Railroad Companies with 45 years of service before retiring in 1991. Moore was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army PFC, serving in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Walter B. Moore, III, of Smithton, PA, John J. Moore of Durango, CO, Joseph F. Moore of Great Bend, and James A. Moore of Oklahoma City, OK; two daughters, Mary C. Moore of Columbia, MO, and Christina F. Moore of Tinley Park, IL; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, James B. Moore, and two sisters, Mary A. Moore and Ellen A. Moore. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Warren Stecklein officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend cemetery in Great Bend. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. A vigil service will occur at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Holy Family School Endowment Fund or Barton County Food Bank, both in care of the funeral home. Great Bend (Kan.) Tribuen, Oct. 20, 2002

Delillah Wilcoxson 1928 - 2002
LACROSSE - Delillah Wilcoxson, 74, died Oct. 17 at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City. She was born June 2, 1928 in rural Osborne County, the daughter of Clyde and Maggie Ida (Stanley) Yarnell. Wilcoxson graduated from Osborne High School. She married Leroy Wilcoxson on April 27, 1946 in Osborne. A resident of Rush County since 1964, she was active with the Barbed Wire Museum in LaCrosse. Mrs. Wilcoxson was a member of the First Christian Church and the Barbed Wire Museum, both of LaCrosse. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Roger Wilcoxson of Clay Center; three daughters, Leanna Rankin of El Dorado, Sharon Foust of Otis, and Janice Legleiter of LaCrosse; three brothers, Elden Yarnell and Melvin Yarnell, both of Osborne, and Keith Yarnell of Platte City, MO; one sister, Jane Anderson of Osborne; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Delber Yarnell and Bill Yarnell. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Janousek Funeral Home Chapel in LaCrosse with Pastor Troy Schoeder officiating. Burial will be at LaCrosse cemetery in LaCrosse. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorials are suggested to the Barbed Wire Museum or Central Rush County EMS, both of LaCrosse. Oct. 20, 2002

Raymond T. Mullenix 1915 - 2002
BUSHTON - Raymond T. Mullenix, 87, died Oct. 18 at his residence. He was born Sept. 11, 1915 in Chase, the son of Charles B. and Mary Taylor Mullenix. He married Mary Louise Alexander on March 7, 1937 in Hutchinson. A resident of Bushton most of his life, he was a pumper and roustabout for Sunray Oil and also worked for the railroad in Bushton. Mullenix was a member of First United Methodist Church, a former church treasurer, Boy Scouts of America, all of Bushton, and Ducks Unlimited. Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Shirley Jeter of Kingfisher, OK, Karen Sunderland of Great Bend, Trudy Magee of Bloomington, IL, Nora Anderson of Bloomington, IN, and Deanna Harris of Overland Park; one brother, Donald Mullenix of Wayne City, IL; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Warren Mullenix; five sisters, Laverne Tigerstrand, Maxine Applegate, Beulahr Golden, Lavelle Reiman, and "Babe" Ohlemeier; and one granddaughter. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at First United Methodist Church in Bushton with the Rev. Janet Myers officiating. Burial will be at Bushton cemetery in Bushton. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Memorials are suggested to the church and Bushton First Responders in care of the funeral home.

Michael Lee Shelton 1974 - 2002
STAFFORD - Michael Lee Shelton, 28, died Oct. 18 at his residenc. He was born March 5, 1974 in Great Bend, the son of Gary L. Shelton and Jenny L. Fox Kisner. He was a 1992 graduate of St. John High School. He married Melissa Kewish on Sept. 23, 1994 in St. John. A resident of the St. John and Stafford communities, he was employed at St. John Welding. Shelton was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. John and the American Legion of Stafford. He is survived by his wife of the home; one son, Eric Logan Shelton of Stafford; one daughter, Destiny Leann Shelton of Stafford; his mother, Jenny Kisner of Stafford; his father, Gary Shelton of Hutchinson; two sisters, Kayli Kisner and Kristin Kisner, both of Stafford; two brothers, Jarrod Shelton and Denver Shelton, both of Hutchinson; his grandparents, Margaret and Bill Symns of St. John, Leon and Judy Shelton of St. John, and Verda Cable of Sandusky, OH; his great grandmother, Edna Fox of St. John; and many aunts and uncles. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at the First Baptist Church in St. John with Wade Russell officiating. Burial will be at the Stafford cemetery in Stafford. Friends may call from 4 4 to 8 p.m. today at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society or the Mental Health Society, both in care of the chapel. Oct. 20, 2002

Wilhelmina B. Giessel 1922-2002
NESS CITY - Wilhelmina B. Giessel, 80, died Oct. 18 at St. John's Rest Home of Victoria. She was born May 10, 1922, at Spearville, the daughter of William J. and Mary Knoeber Strecker. She married Leo Lester Giessel on Aug. 25, 1942, at Spearville. He died May 10, 1972. A longtime resident of Ness City, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Giessel was a member of Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society, both of Ness City. Survivors include one son, Jim Giessel of Nevada, Mo.; four daughters, Marlene Risley of Dighton, Marietta Wendler of Hutchinson, Carol Bain of Ness City and Donna Goetz of Hoisington; two brothers, Archbishop I.J. Strecker of Kansas City and Henry Strecker of Spearville; two sisters, Catherine Helfrich of Spearville and Elizabeth Petz of Colwich; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Lester Giessel; two sisters, Agnes Mahoney and Mary Schartz; and one granddaughter, Molly Bain. Parish vigil will be at 7 tonight at the church. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Gregory LeBlanc officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church or Sacred Heart School, both in care of Fitzgerald Funeral Home of Ness City. Oct. 21, 2002

Henry 'Kenneth' Kruse 1918-2002
Henry "Kenneth" Kruse, 84, of Great Bend, died Oct. 19 at Integrated Health Services of Great Bend. He was born March 30, 1918, at Sylvia, the son of Albert and Effie Sauer Kruse. He married Opal Georgia Hardy. She died Nov. 18, 1971. He married Hulda Hildebrand Algrim on June 30, 1972, at Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1970, coming from Tonganoxie and Olathe, he was a former lumber yard manager and sales and office employee for Bird Oil Company of Great Bend. Kruse was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and Kiwanis, both of Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of Great Bend; two daughters, Shirley Ann Frantz of Bethany, Okla., and Marilyn Kay Goodhue of Carlisle, Iowa; two stepsons, Alfred Morris Algrim of Nickerson and Tracy Lee Algrim of Wichita; one stepdaughter, Susan Kay Krampe of Great Bend; one brother, Lee Kruse of Sterling; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Marie Kruse; one brother, Carl Kruse; and one granddaughter, Nicole Goodhue. Funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Mark Pennington officiating. Burial will be at Peace Creek cemetery of Zenith. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend. The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice or to the church, both in care of the funeral home. Oct. 21, 2002

Wilma D. Arnberger 1942-2002
Wilma D. Arnberger, 60, of Great Bend, died Oct. 20 at Cherry Village Nursing Home of Great Bend. She was born July 29, 1942, at Sharon Springs, the daughter of Virgil and Fern Schwartz Chaney. A resident of Great Bend since 1976, coming from Osborne, she was a sales clerk for McCoy Shoes of Great Bend. Arnberger was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Great Bend, Altar Society and a volunteer for RSVP. Survivors include one son, Kevin Arnberger of Great Bend; three daughters, Rhonda Klug of Great Bend, Tamera Walker of Rozel and Kimberly Corkill of Partridge; two brothers, Charles Chaney and Jake Chaney, both of Sharon Springs; one sister, Wanda Keister of Sharon Springs; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Chaney; and one sister, Norma Arnberger. Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Angel Dy officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery of Great Bend. Friends may call from 3-9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cherry Village Nursing Home or RSVP, both in care of the funeral home. Oct. 21, 2002
