John A. DeBusk 1934-2002
CLAFLIN - John A. DeBusk, 68, died Oct. 20 at Clara Barton Hospital of Hoisington. He was born Oct. 4, 1934, at Holton, the son of Frank Joseph and Gladys Bender DeBusk. He was a 1953 graduate of Ellinwood High School, a 1960 graduate of Hutchinson Junior College and a 1962 graduate of Kansas State University. He married Sharon R. Brenn on April 9, 1955, at Ellinwood. A longtime resident of Barton County, he was a teacher and coach at Marysville, McPherson and Hoisington, until his retirement in 1993. DeBusk was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, American Legion Post 320, Wheat Bowl Inc., and Wheat Bowl Foundation, all of Ellinwood. He was also a 34 year member of Elks Lodge of Great Bend and a member of the Claflin School Board. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, having served in Korea. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Bren DeBusk of Albert; one daughter, Tami Miller of Claflin; one brother, Frank DeBusk Jr. of Mobile, Ala.; one sister, Donna Lenhart of Tulsa, Okla.; and three grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Commanche District cemetery of Ellinwood. Friends may call from 3-9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home of Hoisington. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the John DeBusk Wheat Bowl Foundation Scholarship, USD 431 Education Fund, USD 354 Foundation or to the church, all in care of the funeral home. George D. Keith 1908-2002
TOPEKA - George D. Keith, 94, died Oct. 21 at a Topeka hospital. He was born April 7, 1908, at Trenton, Mo., the son of James William and Barbara Ellen DeVolld Keith. He received a bachelor of science degree in music from Fort Hays State College of Hays and received a masters in music from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1942. He married Bernice M. DeWoody on March 22, 1930, at Springfield, Mo. She died Nov. 27, 1993. A resident of Topeka, he taught music at Summersville, Mo., Pawnee Rock and Atwood, was a music teacher and principal at La Crosse for 21 years and served as director of school unification for the State of Kansas in Topeka until his retirement in 1973. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia F. Wesley of Tillamook, Ore.; two grandsons; and one step great-grandson. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1-9 p.m. on Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel of Topeka. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to Midland Hospice Inc., or American Heart Association, both in care of the chapel. Oct. 22, 2002

Ellen L. Marley 1920-2002
LARNED - Ellen L. Marley, 82, died Oct. 20 at Larned Health Care and Living Center of Larned. She was born July 28, 1920, at Garfield, the daughter of Frank W. and Nellie Briskey Buck. She married Frank W. Marley on Jan. 10, 1939, at Greensburg. He died Aug. 25, 1981. A lifetime resident of Larned, she was a nurse's aide at Gleason Hospital and clerk at Duckwalls and ALCO, all of Larned. Mrs. Marley was a member of First Baptist Church and Modern Woodmen of America, both of Larned. Survivors include one son, Frank Marley of Larned; one daughter, Judith Sucht of Dodge City; two brothers, Robert Buck of Quincy, Ill., and Carl Buck of Iola; one sister, Mae Louise Morris of Iola; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances "Jane" Marley; and two sisters, Frances Esther Barker and Bessie Buck. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Larned cemetery with the Rev. John Hester officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel of Larned. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary. Oct. 22, 2002

Robert D. 'Bob' Bailey 1920-2002
SALINA - Robert D. "Bob" Bailey, 81, died Oct. 22 at Holiday Resort of Salina. He was born Dec. 25, 1920, at Minneapolis, the son of Edward K. and Valetta E. Shreve Bailey. He married Thelma Dayhoff Downs on Oct. 2, 1964. A resident of Salina, he was a welder in the California shipyards, was owner and operator of Red Carpet Restaurant of Hutchinson, Bob and Thelma's Steak House of Great Bend and Elmore Cinnamon Shop of Salina. Bailey was a member of First Church of the Nazarene of Salina, was associated with the Free Methodist Church and a member of Kansas Restaurant Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Jim Bailey and Dennis Bailey, both of Wichita, Allen Bailey of Arco, Idaho, Robert Bailey of McPherson and Richard Bailey of Puerto Rico; one daughter, Jan Srack of Salina; two stepsons, Gene Downs of Salem, Ore., and Stan Downs of Tillomock, Ore.; one stepdaughter, Carolyn Englebach of Salina; one brother, Bill Bailey of Delphos; and two sisters, Margie Somers and Jo Conk, both of California. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Danner Funeral Home of Abilene. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery, north of Detroit. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 23, 2002

Velda L. Gilliland 1933-2002
Velda L. Gilliland, 69, of Great Bend, died Oct. 21 at her residence in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 7, 1933, at Great Bend, the daughter of Arnold and Doris Ochs Steinert. She married Glenn E. Gilliland on July 22, 1951, at Otis. He died April 21, 2001. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was branch manager at Security State Bank for 24 years and a teller at Farmers Bank and Trust for two years until her retirement on Dec. 31, 1990. Mrs. Gilliland was a member of Central Baptist Church of Great Bend, past member and officer of National Association of Bank Women, past county treasurer and memorial chairman of American Heart Association. Survivors include one son, Michael W. Gilliland and his wife Lynn of Lafayette, La.; one daughter, Charlotte L. "Shari" Perry and her husband Mark of Soldier; one sister, Barbara J. Wiley of Salt Lake City, Utah; one grandson, Gabe Gilliland; four granddaughters, Misti Lundin and her husband Steve, Christin Touchet and her husband Rod, Paige Perry and Ember Perry; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin Gilliland and Kinlyn Lundin. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Trenton Perry. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Dr. Gordon E. Rhodes and the Rev. John Grummon officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, both at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, and from noon until service time Thursday at the church. Calvin Levi Weese Sr. 1925-2002
Calvin Levi Weese Sr., 77, of Great Bend, died Oct. 22 at his residence. He was born June 15, 1925, at Fellsburg, the son of Olav Levi and Gertrude Hixson Weese. He married Helen Marie Miller on Oct. 24, 1948, at Pratt. A resident of Great Bend since 1955, coming from Pratt, he was a welder until his retirement in 1987. Weese was a member of Church of Christ of Great Bend and American Legion. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, having served during World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Calvin Levi Weese Jr and Kevin Leon Weese, both of Great Bend, Gregory Lee Weese of Overland Park, Jeffery Lynn Weese of Seward and Sean Lesley Weese of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Sherilyn Kae Stewart of Emporia and Kimberly Ann Jordan of Great Bend; one brother, Gene Weese of Pine, Ariz.; six sisters, Beth Goodson of Wichita, Vena Holland of Surprise, Ariz., Loretta Hadsell and Laurene Walters, both of Pratt, Betty Lynn Hemphill of Colfax, Calif., and Boots Tyler; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Weese and Lemuel Weese. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Darrell Decker officiating. The body will be cremated and burial will be at a later date. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9-11 a.m. Friday, all at Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend and noon until service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to Maude Carpenter Children's Fund or American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home. Oct. 24, 2002

Mary 'Jo' Keesling 1935-2002
CHASE - Mary "Jo" Keesling, 66, died Oct. 23 at Hutchinson Hospital. She was born Dec. 15, 1935, at Seminole, Okla., the daughter of Jasper V. and Golden M. Marvel Bowen. She was a 1953 graduate of Chase High School and a graduate of Draun's Business College of Tulsa, Okla. She married Donald D. Keesling on Aug. 12, 1955, at Lyons. A resident of Chase since 1950, she was a farmwife and owner of Jo's Cakes. Mrs. Keesling was a member of United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both of Lyons, held offices in the Hutchinson District United Methodist Women and was treasurer of Kansas West Conference of United Methodist Women. She was also a Chase 4-H Club leader, an officer on the Rice County Extension Council, a 4-H Judge and State Fair Foods Judge, a member and 1990 president of Kansas Wheathearts, member of Kansas Crop Improvement Association and Kansas Master Farmer-Homemaker. She was named woman of the year in 1993 by Kansas Wheathearts and Agri-Woman of the Year by High Plains Journal. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Doug Keesling of Chase; two daughters, Donna Strube of Harrah, Okla., and Diana Clarke of Lancaster, Calif.; two brothers, Rodney Bowen of Manhattan and Vernon Bowen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Klarissa Keesling. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church in Lyons with the Rev. Cindy Watson officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Friday and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, all at Sillin Funeral Home of Lyons. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Rice County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home. Oct. 24, 2002

Lucille Janssen 1922-2002
LORRAINE - Lucille Janssen, 79, died Oct. 23 at Rice County District One Hospital of Lyons. She was born Nov. 4, 1922, in the Bethany Community of Lincoln County, the daughter of Charles E. and Clara Heide Wirth. She married Arlen Janssen on May 3, 1947, at Bethany Baptist Church of Lincoln County. A lifetime resident of the Lorraine area, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Janssen was a member of First Baptist Church of Lorraine and Dorcas Society. Survivors include her husband of the home in Geneseo; three sons, Steven Janssen of Geneseo, Douglas Janssen of Wichita and Gerald Janssen of Lee's Summit, Mo.; one daughter, Elaine Jury of Manhattan; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Leach and Virginia Barnhill. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Don Decker officiating. Burial will be at Lorraine Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Parsons Funeral Home of Ellsworth and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Bushton First Responders or Gideons, both in care of the funeral home. Oct. 25, 2002

Lyle D. 'Mutt' Traylor 1932-2002
LARNED - Lyle D. "Mutt" Traylor, 70, died Oct. 23 at Veterans Nursing Home of Wichita. He was born May 17, 1932, at Zook, the son of Arthur William and Clara Belle Lancaster Traylor. He married Albert Ruth Ditges. She preceded him in death. A lifetime resident of Pawnee County, he was a farmer. Traylor was a past member of Baptist Church of Belpre, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Larned and American Legion of Great Bend. Survivors include three sons, Scott Traylor of Healy, Steve Traylor of Lexington, Ky., and Shad Traylor of Wichita; one daughter, Shelly O'Rorke of Salina; three grandsons, PFC Lyle O'Rorke of Korea, Keith Traylor of Lexington and Josh Owens of Derby; one granddaughter, Becky O'Rorke of Salina; and one daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Traylor of Lexington. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil Traylor, Loren Traylor, Eldon Traylor and Wilbur Traylor; one sister, Fern Avary; and one grandson. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel of Larned with the Rev. John Hester officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Pawnee County 4-H, in care of the mortuary. Oct. 25, 2002

Ida Fay Farrington 1917-2002
CARNEIRO - Ida Fay Farrington, 85, died Oct. 23 at Stoneybrook Retirement Community of Manhattan. She was born Feb. 10, 1917, in Ellsworth County, the daughter of Warren Myron "Bud" and Bertha DeWitt Webster. She married Ralph Farrington on Dec. 20, 1936, at Salina. He died Oct. 30, 1985. A resident of Manhattan for three years, coming from Salina, Ellsworth and Carneiro, she was a homemaker and past employee of Elkan. Mrs. Farrington was a member of Carneiro Methodist Church. Survivors include one son, Warren Farrington of Hoisington; one daughter, Sharon Claeys of Wamego; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Orin and Gordon. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Parsons Funeral Home of Ellsworth with the Rev. Gene Langofer officiating. Burial will be at Carneiro Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Carneiro Community Center, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 25, 2002

Jimmy R. Gautier 1931-2002
LYONS - Jimmy R. Gautier, 71, died Oct. 22 at his residence in Lyons. He was born June 8, 1931, at Lyons, the son of James Woodson and Lora Belle Barnett Gautier. He was a graduate of Lyons High School and Wichita State University. He married Patricia Moyer on Sept. 12, 1954, at Wichita. A lifetime resident of Lyons, he was owner of Gautier John Deere Dealership of Lyons, until his retirement. Gautier was a member of United Methodist Church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Lyons, and established the Gautier Scholarship Fund for Lyons High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War from 1951-1953. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Troy Gautier of Atlanta, Ga., and Trent Gautier of Shawnee; one daughter, Leah Gautier-Neff of Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Loretta Gautier; and one grandson, Jordan Gautier. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Cindy Watson officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal cemetery with military honors provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. today at Sillin Funeral Home of Lyons. The casket will be closed. Memorials are suggested to Gautier Scholarship Fund for Lyons High School, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 25, 2002

Margaret Louise Radford 1941 - 2002
Margaret Louise Radford, 60, of Great Bend, died Oct. 25 at Integrated Health Services of Great Bend. She was born Dec. 25, 1941 in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Durward Edward "Bill" and Edna Louise Klassen Webster. She married Wellington Mark Radford Jr. on May 3, 1964 in Great Bend. They were divorced. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a crossing guard for USD 428 in Great Bend and later served as a counselor at New Chance rehabilitation Center in Dodge City. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene and Alcoholics Anonymous. Survivors include four daughters, Angie Henry of Great Bend, Tammy Gano, Janice Buettgenbach, and Cynthia Willesdan, all of Washington; one brother, C.E. "Buddy" Webster of Great Bend; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Durward Eugene Radford; one brother, Doyle Webster; and two sisters, Dixie Reed and Ada Rupp. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Great Bend with the Rev. Mark Pennington officiating. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon on Monday all at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to the Margaret Radford Expense Fund in care of the funeral home. Oct. 27, 2002
