Malcolm Hall

Malcolm Hall, age 86, of Inez, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Martin County Health Care Facility in Inez.

Born December 22, 1926 in Chatteroy, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Bob and Joanna Preece Hall.

He is survived by three sons, Bobby Hall of Inez, Kentucky, Jimmy and Eugene Hall both of Louisa, Kentucky; his twin brother, Marcus Hall of Pilgrim, Kentucky; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was retired from Columbia Gas.

Funeral services will be 11am Saturday, September 21, 2013 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Hall Family cemetery at Inez.

Danny Hall will officiate.

Friends may visit the funeral home from 5-9pm Friday and until the time of service on Saturday.

Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

Samuel Julian Varney

Samuel Julian Varney, age 68, of Crum, WV, passed away early Sunday, September 15, 2013 at his home at Silver Creek, Crum, West Virginia.

Born October 27, 1944 in Webb, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Luther Varney and Edna (Spaulding) Varney.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Donald L. Varney; and two sisters, Beulah Faye Parsley and JoAnn Varney. He is survived by his wife, Joanne (Bartoe) Varney; two sons, Brian Z. Varney of Huntington, West Virginia and Brandon E. Varney of Dunbar, West Virginia; one brother, Troy E. Varney of Crum, West Virginia; one sister, and Betty Varney Edmunson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

He was a Member of the Crum Church of Christ and was an educator with the Wayne County Board of Education for 34 years.

He taught at Crum Elementary and Dunlow Elementary.

He graduated from Crum High School, class of 1962.

Julian attended David Lipscomb University and was a graduate of Glenville State College and Marshall University.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1971 and served in Vietnam from November 1968 – November 1971.

Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Crum Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Kentucky Veterans cemetery North East in Greenup County, Kentucky.

Minister Albert Farley will officiate.

Friends may visit the church from 6-9pm Tuesday.

Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

Craig Alan Booth

Craig Alan Booth, age 54, of Galloway, OH formerly of Whitehouse, KY, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 26, 2013.

He was born September 11, 1959 in Columbus, Ohio to Earl Booth and Margaret Welch.

He was a 1977 graduate of Johnson Central High School and was currently employed at Rush Truck Centers.

Craig enjoyed working on cars and watching NASCAR.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mart and Esther Welch, who raised him. Craig is survived by his wife of 33 years, Esther of Columbus, OH; one daughter, Candice Simms of Grove City, OH; grandsons, Connor and Owen Simms; siblings, Earletta (Tom) Meade of Van Lear, Londa (David) Meek of Whitehouse, KY, Darla (Chester) Stroud of Cattletsburg, KY, Darrin (Anita) Spears of Florida, Lisa (Gerald) Shockley of Florida, Marta (Mark) Montoya of Florida, Bridget Youcef of Columbus, OH; uncles, Jay Welch, Mart Ray Welch; aunt, Melda Wiley; great-aunt, Alice Jean Wiley; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in the Chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Son Butcher cemetery at Whitehouse. Tommy Meade will officiate.

Friends may visit the funeral home from 5-9pm on Tuesday and until time of service on Wednesday.

David Stone
(1938-2010)

David Hardin Stone, 71, of Louisa, died Monday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 2, 1938, in Axtel.

His wife, Colleen Bentley Stone, survives.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Sand Knob cemetery.

Nannie Krohn
(1924-2010)

Nannie Marcum Krohn, 85, of Fort Gay, died Sunday in the Martin County Health Care Facility.

She was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Crum.

Her husband, George John Krohn, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Salt Petre Christian Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lynch cemetery in Salt Petre.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Young Funeral Home in Louisa, Ky.

Billie R. Holder
1932-2010

Billie R. Holder, 77, of Louisa, died Saturday. He was born Feb. 11, 1932, in Bells, Texas. His wife, Emma Fenley Holder, survives.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Wilson Funeral Home.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Stella W. DeBorde
1919-2010

Stella W. DeBorde, 90, of Chillicothe, died at 2:28 p.m. Jan. 12, 2010, in Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fla.

She was born April 26, 1919, in Louisa, Ky., to the late Morda and Golda Wilson. On Sept. 25, 1940, she married Woodrow DeBorde, who preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 2003.

Surviving are her daughters, Sharon Cunningham of Sarasota, Jackie DeBorde and her friend, Donnie Schroeder of Circleville and North Port, Fla., and Sandy (Kit) Bucy of Chillicothe; four grandchildren, Missie (Tom) Madru of Frankfort, Ohio, Clay (Kim) Bucy of Kettering, Ohio, Angie Bucy of New Hope, Pa. and Richard (Kristen) Cunningham of Bradenton, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Mitchell Madru, Andrea and Noah Bucy, and Beau and Brock Cunningham; a brother, Joe Wilson of Mount Dora, Fla.; three sisters, Clara Vagnier (Marvin Kipp) of Mount Dora, Fla., Jesse Johnson of Ashville, Ohio, and Doris (Norman) Braughton of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stella had worked at the former US Shoe Corp. and retired from Sears where she worked in the catalog sales department. She was a former member of Belles & Beaus Square Dance Club.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18 at Haller Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Ramey officiating. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Greenlawn cemetery in Louisa under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Haller Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the charity of the donor’s choice.

John Dillon
1927-2010

John Paul Dillon, 83, of Fort Gay, died Monday in Fort Gay.

He was born Jan. 8, 1927, in Yellow Creek, Ky.

His wife, Mary Jeffers Dillon of Milton, survives.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Friendship United Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fluty Lick cemetery in Louisa.

June Martin
1920-2010

June Mulliken Martin, 89, of Louisa, died Monday in Louisa.

She was born July 20, 1920, in Arcola, Ill.

Her husband, Walter R. Martin, died in 1993.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Pinehill cemetery in Louisa.

Roger Lewis Artrip
(1948-2010)

Roger Lewis Artrip, 61, of Leon, W.Va., died Friday at his residence. He was born Aug. 31, 1948.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Young Funeral Home Chapel in Louisa. Burial will be in Wellman cemetery, Salt Petre, W.Va.

Neva Davis
(1921-2010)

Neva Davis, 88, of Louisa, died Tuesday in Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa.

She was born July 11, 1921, in Richardson.

Her husband, Haden B. Davis, died in 1976.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Davis cemetery in Richardson.

Herbert Wilks
(1947-2010)

Herbert Daniel Wilks, 62, of Webbville, died Wednesday at his residence.

He was born Aug. 24, 1947, in Lawrence County.

His wife, Elizabeth Rose Wilks, survives.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Wilks-Bishop cemetery in Webbville.

Maxwell Cooper
(1937-2010)

Maxwell Vernon Cooper, 72, of Martha, died Sunday in Martha.

He was born June 15, 1937, in Cherokee.

His wife, Judy Allison Cooper, died in 1984.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenlawn cemetery in Louisa.

Jeffery Bowen

Jeffery Allen Bowen, 37, of Fort Gay, died Saturday in Fort Gay.

He was born March 23, 1972, in Louisa, Ky.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Friendship United Baptist Church. Burial will be in Bowen-Sammons cemetery on Yellow Creek.

Paul Canterbury

Paul E. Canterbury, 61, of Louisa, died Sunday in Huntington Veterans Administration Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 11, 1948, in Louisa.

His wife, Bonnie Tarring Canterbury, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Meades Branch Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Bryant cemetery at Charley.
