WATERPROOF, La. - Services for Florence Jordan Mattox, 70, of Waterproof, who died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Choctaw Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Brown officiating.

Burial will follow in Pinhook cemetery in St. Joseph under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ms. Mattox was born July 22, 1932, in Wisner, the daughter of Abe and Georgiann Merrell Jordan.

She was a retired nurse's assistant and a member of the Baptist faith and served on the Usher Board at Choctaw Chapel Baptist Church.

Ms. Mattox was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Abe Jordan Jr. and Truley Jordan; and one sister, Gladys Jordan Brazzle.

Survivors include two brothers, Levi Jordan Sr. of St. Joseph and Thomas J. Jordan Sr. of Chicago; two sisters, Rosie Green of New Orleans and Marie J. Clark of Chicago; one aunt, Hattie Merrell; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

FERRIDAY, La. - Funeral arrangements for Sam Wilson, 84, of Ferriday, who died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, are incomplete at Concordia Funeral Home.

SLIDELL, La. - Funeral arrangements for Vertina Harriston, 56, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at North Shore Medical Center in Slidell, are incomplete at Webb Funeral Home.

Gene Yvonne Fleming

Nov. 12, 1917 - Jan. 14, 2003

FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Gene Yvonne Fleming, 85, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. today at Comer Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin Barksdale officiating.

Burial will follow in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from noon until funeral time today at the funeral time.

Ms. Fleming was born Nov. 12, 1917, in Ferriday, the daughter of Daniel B. and Pearl Honea Fleming.

She was a retired teacher and former owner of Fleming Insurance Agency.

Ms. Fleming was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Martha Fleming Fairbanks; and two brothers, Daniel B. Fleming Jr. and Myron Fleming.

Survivors include one sister, Carolyn Fleming Hammett of Covington, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Richard Alwood, Larry Chauvin, Billy Rucker, Albert Crothers, Jimmy Hammett and Linda Morgan.

Delphia Charrier

Dec. 20, 1920 - Jan. 14, 2003

LARTO, La. - Services for Delphia Charrier, 82, of Larto, who died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Christus St. Francis Cabrini in Alexandria, will be at 2 p.m. today at Larto Apostolic Church with the Rev. Clay Hutto officiating.

Burial will be in Nichols cemetery in Larto under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Jonesville.

Mrs. Charrier was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Rapides Parish, the daughter of Kenneth Rozella and Mary Ada White.

She was a homemaker and a member of Larto Apostolic Church.

Mrs. Charrier was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Herman Charrier; her father, Kenneth Rozella White; her mother, Mary Ada White; two sons, Kenneth Rozella White and Leonard Charrier Sr.; four sisters, Essie Adams, Ethel Denny, Eva Nichols and Lennie Reed; and one son-in-law, Charles Thomas.

Survivors include three daughters, Earleane Thomas of Delhi, Elaine Dabbs of Thibodaux and Marilyn Dixon and her husband, Daniel, both of Mooringsport; four sons, Jessie Ray Charrier of Vidalia, Lloyd Charrier of Mobile, Ala., Van Charrier Jr. and his wife, Evelyn, both of Larto and Leonard Charrier and his wife, Cheryl, both of Pryor, Okla; one sister, Inez Gaspard of Jonesville; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

W. A. Kiper

July 30, 1908 - Jan. 13, 2003

FERRIDAY, La. - Services for W. A. Kiper, 94, of Denham Springs, who died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Summit Hospital in Baton Rouge, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Young's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cloyce Cole officiating.

Burial will be in the New Pine Hill cemetery in Sicily Island under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Kiper was born July 30, 1908, in Wisner.

He was retired from Ethyl Corp. as a refrigeration supervisor and was a member of New Pine Hill Baptist Church of Sicily Island and Sicily Island Masonic Lodge. He was also a veteran.

Mr. Kiper was preceded in death by his father, James Allen Kiper; his mother, Annie Kiper; one son, James G. Kiper; two sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Cecile Allen of Denham Springs; one brother, Charlie Fred Kiper of Denham Springs; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family and grandsons.

Gene F. Fleming

FERRIDAY, La. - Funeral arrangements for Gene F. Fleming, 85, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, in Natchez, are incomplete at Comer Funeral Home.

Carolyn Austin Clance

WINNSBORO, La. - Services for Carolyn Austin Clance, 59, who died Thursday, Jan. 9, 203 in York, Ala., where held Jan. 12 at Community Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial was in the Magnolia cemetery under the direction of Community Memorial Funeral Home of Winnsboro.

She was a native of Franklin Parish, La., past resident of Baytown, Texas, Hazlehurst, Georgia and a resident of DeKalb, Texas. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Clance was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Grace Austin; one sister, Merlene Thornhill; four brothers, Carson Austin, Claydeen Austin, Curly Austin and M. L. Austin.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Clance Sr. of Georgia; three children, James Desadier, Tammy Chrisman and Clyde M. Scott, all of Texas; two step-children, Dana Hand and Norman Clance Jr., both of Georgia; two sisters, Maydall McCall of Natchez and Mamie "Bill" Harold of Franklinton; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Austin and Sandy Austin, both of Texas; brother-in-law, Bud Thornhill of Louisiana; 14 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Harvey Paul Clark Sr.

Sept. 13, 1951 - Jan. 11, 2003

EVA, La. - Services for Harvey Paul Clark Sr., 51, of Monterey, who died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Eva Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Bobby Ratcliff officiating.

Burial will follow in the Eva Church of God cemetery under the direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. today until service time Monday at the church.

Mr. Clark was born Sept. 13, 1951, in Ville Platte, La., the son of Eugene Ray Clark Sr. and Bernice Morace Clark.

He worked as a lieutenant with the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility near Ferriday and was a member of Eva Pentecostal Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Eugene Ray Clark Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Johnson Clark; two sons, Paul Clark Jr. of Ada, Okla., and Kevin Clark of Monterey; two daughters, Julie Clark of Pineville, La., and Kelsie Clark of Monterey; two grandchildren, Ryan Clark and Athena Clark; and one sister, Cathy Clark of Monterey.

Pallbearers will be Scott Tiffee, Ricky Bryan, Joe Bryan, Ronnie Bryan, Kenneth Hedrick and Gene Wayne Tiffee.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Tiffee, James Smith, Lovine Morace, Betty Tiffee, Teressa Richardson, Stacy Cooper, Jackie Brigman and the staff at the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility.

John Hampton Sr.

Sept. 21, 1927 - Jan. 6, 2003

FERRIDAY, La. - Services for John Hampton Sr., 75, of Ferriday, who died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ferriday, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with the Rev. James Beverly officiating.

Burial will follow in the Ferriday cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Hampton was born Sept. 21, 1927, the son of Charlie and Sally Ford Hampton.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school superintendent.

Mr. Hampton was preceded in death by his first wife, Alberta Hampton; his second wife, Pearline Hampton; two sisters; and one brothers.

Survivors include three sons, Oliver Hayes Sr. of Oxen Hill, Md., John Hampton Jr. of Ferriday and the Rev. Delbert Wright of Los Angeles; one stepson, Charles Hayes and his wife, Iantha, both of Ferriday; three daughters, Alberta Banks, Essie Hampton and Gloria Skipper, all of Ferriday; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Hampton of Alexandria and Joseph Ford of Oakland, Calif.; one sister, Rosie Scott and her husband, Paul, both of Alexandria; one sister-in-law, Elnora Lee of Ferriday; one brother-in-law, Eugene Frazier of Oakland; one uncle, Mose L. Collins of Ferriday; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Willie B. Matthews

March 12, 1917 - Jan. 8, 2003

WISNER, La. - Graveside services for Willie B. Matthews, 85, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. today at Central Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. James Cockerham officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Matthews was born March 12, 1917, the son of Bob and Ethel Scruggs Matthews.

Survivors include one sister, Ruth Allredd of Tylertown; one brother, John D. Matthews of Winnsboro; cousins, Timmy and Diane Stevens and their children, Carlos and Linda Peavey and their children, all of Natchez, Raymond and Rosie Kelly and their children and Earnie Bolyer; and the Moreau children.

Edwin Hall Pinkney

FOULES, La. - Services for Edwin Hall Pinkney, 47, of New Orleans formerly of Foules, who died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in New Orleans, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Ruben Oliver officiating.

Burial will follow in New Light cemetery in Foules under the direction of Richardson & Sims Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include his parents, Willie Hall and Louella Pinkney Brown; his stepfather, Joe Brown; one son, Edwin Bosley of New Orleans; one daughter, Monica Pinkney of Ferriday; one brother, Alfred Brown of Clayton; and 10 sisters, Gloria Brown of Clayton, Mary Brown and Ellen Brown, both of New Orleans, Jackie Brown, Barbara Brown, Debra Brown and Sandra Brown, all of Foules, Rose Brown of Clayton, Betty Brown of New Orleans and Dana Hall of Baton Rouge.

Georgie Bracken

SICILY ISLAND, La. - Services for Georgie Bracken, 62, of Sicily Island, who died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. John L. Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Richardson & Sims Funeral Home of Winnsboro.

Survivors include three sons, George Bracken III and Jack Bracken, both of Houston, and James Ray Bracken of Sicily Island; one daughter, Martha Bracken of Chicago; two brothers, Leroy Johnson and Fair Johnson, both of Chicago; five sisters, Martha Jones of Gary, Ind., Fancis Farr and Alice Bryant, both of Houston, Hanna Johnson of Chicago and Mary Johnson of Baton Rouge; and 16 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Leroy Johnson, Fair Johnson, Van Bracken, Kenneth Toliver, Jack Bracken and James Ray Bracken.

VIDALIA, La. - Services for Panzy Welch, 84, of Vidalia, who died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be 10 a.m. today at Young's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Burress officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Vidalia.

Mrs. Welch was born Jan. 19, 1918, in Parma, Mo., the daughter of Causey Sanders and Bob Sanders.

She was a homemaker and a member of Ferriday Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lynn Welch; a brother, four sisters, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great great-grandchild.

Survivors include six sons, Lynn Welch Jr. of Morena Valley, Ca., and Mearle Welch, Lonnie Welch, Darrell Welch, Danny Welch and Michael Welch, all of Vidalia; one daughter, Patsy Garner of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one sister, Stella Norton of Chaffee, Mo.; one brother, John Sanders, also of Chaffee; and 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
