FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Clarence Dale Wike, 80, of Lake St. John, LA, who died Friday, March 19, 2004, in Jennings, LA, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Young's Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with Brother Don Tate officiating.

Masonic graveside service will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He retired after 40 years with International Paper Company, as an instrumental electrician, a member of the Church of Christ and a Master Mason. He was also a member of the 32nd Scottish Rite and a Shriner with Wahabi Shriners of Jackson. He served in the Marines during World War II.

Mr. Wike was preceded in death by his father, F.P. Wike; mother, Mandy Harmon Wike; brothers, Adam Wike, Paul Wike and Wayne Wike; sisters, Mary Givens, Irene Covington and Jeanette Cross.

Survivors include his wife, Eugenia Wike of Lake St. John; daughters, Dianne and Lynwood Wiley of Lake St. John and Gail and Tom Lowry of Jennings; sons, Gary Dale and Mary Jo Wike of Monroe, LA and Douglas and Kimmie Wike of Ferriday; sister, Betty Thurlkill of Eldorado, AR; brother, Robert Wike of Mountain Home, AR; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Russell, Tim Lowry, Justin Lowry, Eric Wike, Bruce Wiley, Eric Skipper, Craig Hawn and Jason Wike.

Betty Jean Yakey

Funeral arrangements for Betty Jean Yakey, 73, of Vidalia, LA, who died Friday, March 19, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, are incomplete at Young's Funeral Home.

William Case Crossgrove

Funeral arrangements for William Case Crossgrove, 86, of St. Joseph, LA, who died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at his residence, are incomplete at Young's Funeral Home.

Clarence Edward Enright Jr.

Sept. 15, 1930 - March 17, 2004

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Clarence Edward Enright Jr., 73, of Sicily Island, LA, who died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, in Alexandria, LA, will be at 10 a.m. today at Comer Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Bill Foster officiating.

Burial will be in Higland Park cemetery in Sicily Island under the direction of Comer Funeral Home.

Mr. Enright was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Sicily Island, the son of Clarence E. Sr. and Irma Stutson Enright.

He was a life long resident of Sicily Island, was a Methodist and was retired from Wood Scaling Unit with International Paper Company in Natchez.

Mr. Enright was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Enright.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene McGuffee Enright of Sicily Island; daughter, Cynthia Marler of Sicily Island; three brothers, Dr. Richard Enright and Charles Enright, both of Lake Charles, LA and Leslie Enright of Sicily Island; sister, Eleanor G'Sell of Metarie, LA; grandchild, Jeanna Marler of Sicily Island.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Dimple Martin Flowers

Nov. 24, 1922 - March 18, 2004

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Dimple Martin Flowers, 81, of Waterproof, LA, who died Thursday, March 18, 2004, in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Comer Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Donald Privett officiating.

Burial will be in Legion Memorial cemetery in Newellton, LA under the direction of Comer Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hazel Lee Smith

Aug. 17, 1934 - March 13, 2004

WATERPROOF, LA - Services for Hazel Lee Smith, 69, of Waterproof, who died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Baptist Church in Waterproof with the Rev. Robert Wells officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Waterproof, the daughter of Tom Douglas and Ethel Mackey.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elijah Smith; one son, Elijah Smith Jr.; one daughter, Mary Brown.

Survivors include four sons, Arthur Smith, Lee Murray Smith (Amanda), all of New Orleans, LA, Alexander Smith (Gladys) and Nathaniel Smith, all of Waterproof; three daughters, Annie M. Smith (James Cephus) of Waterproof, Elizabeth Hilliard (David) of New Orleans and Loretta Turner (Thomas) of Natchez; one sister, Marie Benard of Lake Providence, LA; one brother, Otis Alexander of New Orleans; son-in-law, Walter Brown; 27 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Johnson Williams

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Ruth Johnson Williams, 66, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at St. Francis Cabrini Medical Center in Alexandria, LA, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Robert Strickland officiating.

Burial will be in the Natchez National cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Williams was born June 19, 1937, in Knox, LA, the daughter of Richard and Mable Pollard Johnson.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Williams; her parents; one son, Earl Lyles; one sister, Truelove Cage.

Survivors include two daughters, Margie Finley (Palmer) of Charlotte, NC and Litrice Williams of Ferriday; two sons, Ventice Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA and Jack Lyles of Ferriday; five brothers, Richard Johnson (Leonie), Zebedee Johnson, Mitchell Johnson (Mildred), all of Baton Rouge, Melchi Johnson and Tommy Johnson of Vidalia; three sisters, Martha Williams of Monterey, CA, Precious Hamiel of Bronx, NY and Annie B. Bates (Arthur) of Vidalia; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

David H. Johnson Jr.

Funeral arrangements for David H. Johnson Jr., 33, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at his residence, are incomplete at Laird Funeral Home.

Jesse W. Speed

Dec. 9, 1925 - March 8, 2004

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Jesse W. Speed, 78, of Ferriday, who died Monday, March 8, 2004, in Baton Rouge, LA, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Pentecostal Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Gary Howington officiating.

Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum in Ferriday under the direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Speed was born Dec. 9, 1925, Winnfield, LA, the son of William R. and Lucille Lee Speed.

He was a life long resident of Ferriday and a retired Lineman Superintendent with Concordia Electric Co. He was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Ferriday. Mr. Speed was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy. He served on the boards for Concordia Electric, the Friends of the Delta Music Museum and the Council on Aging.

Mr. Speed was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jeanette C. Speed.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan Walsh of Baton Rouge and two grandchildren, Matt Walsh and Melissa Walsh, both of Baton Rouge.

Pallbearers will be Jim Fereday, Billy Harris, Mark Aucoin, Donald Wayne Money, Buddy Watson and Matt Walsh.

Warren Herman Aswell

Jan. 18, 1927 - March 7, 2004

EVA, LA - Services for Warren Herman Aswell, 77, of Monterey, LA, who died Sunday, March 7, 2004, in Ferriday, LA, will be at 11 a.m. today at Eva Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Bobby Ratcliff officiating.

Burial will be in Eva Church of God cemetery under the direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Mr. Aswell was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Eva, the son of Jack Easly and Lola Crouch Aswell.

He was a life long resident of Concordia Parish and a member of the Eva Pentecostal Church in Eva. He was a retired tug boat operator with T.L. James and was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army.

Mr. Aswell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Zella Marie Aswell; one son, Freddie Johnson; and one daughter, Gail Cranfield.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Clark and Anna Aswell of Monterey and Pauline Johnson of Vidalia; one step-son, Luther Marlin Aswell of Vidalia; two brothers, Jack Aswell of Monterey and Willie Aswell of Sicily Island, LA; two sisters, Inez Gilmer of Clayton, LA and Margie Frith of Sicily Island; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be W. L. Paul, Danny Tisdale, Matt Tisdale, Reggie Aswell, Seab Mount and Lee Charpentier.

Benny Brandenburg

FERRIDAY -- Funeral services for Benny Brandenburg, 53, of Natchez, who died Saturday, March 6, 2004 at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Albert Fraley officiating.

Burial will follow at Oakley cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr Brandenburg was a resident of Natchez and a member of the First Assembly of God in Vidalia, La. He was a maintenance worker for Adams County for 17 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver "Bill" Francis Brandenburg and Audrey Elaine Brandenburg; and a sister, Audrey Ann Stewart.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Annette Brandenburg of Natchez; five sons, Bradley DeWayne Price of Vidalia, La., Herbert Homer Townsend Jr. of Angola, La., and Walter Roy Nichols, Kenny Roy Brandenburg and Benny Ray Brandenburg, all of Natchez; a daughter, Elizabeth Diane Myers of DeRidder, La.; a sister, Mary Curry of Vidalia, La.; two brothers, William Brandenburg of Vidalia, La. and Oliver Brandenburg of Sicily Island, La.; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mark Brandenburg, William "Bill" Brandenburg Jr., Wayne Brandenburg, James Crosby, David Master and Justin Barnes.

Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Corley.

Virgil W. Maples

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Virgil W. Maples, 85, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ferriday United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Gary Howington and the Rev. Carlton Coon officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Ferriday.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

He was a retired auto mechanic and a member of Ferriday United Pentecostal Church. He served in country during World World II with the U.S. Army. During his service Mr. Virgil was stationed in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, EAMETO Medal and the American DEESV Medal.

Mr. Virgil was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Maples; his mother, Evelyn Maples; daughter, Virgie Maples Jacques; grandson, Dean Travis Wilson; brothers, Joel Maples, Robert Maples and Ozie Maples; sister, Mattie Maples.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Maples of Ferriday; son, Earl Wayne Maples of Beekman, LA; daughters, Laura Sontoyo and Betty Jean Wooten of Ferriday, Katherine Marie Wilson of Vidalia and Mary Jane Tyson of Natchez; brother, Alton Maples of Brookhaven; sisters, Marie Montpelier of Harrisonburg, LA and Rose Mock of Jonesville, LA; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Wilson, David Webb Jr., Jerrod Webb, Jason Tyson, Kenneth Stevens Jr. and Charles Stevens.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Cockerham, Jerry Franklin, Jerry Wooten, George Scott, Joe Sontoyo and John Sanders.

Robert "Doc" Washington Jr.

Aug. 24, 1947 - Feb. 21, 2004

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Robert "Doc" Washington Jr., 56, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Everett Schiele officiating.

Burial will be in Ferriday cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Washington was born Aug. 24, 1947, in Waterproof, LA, the son of Robert Washington and Mary W. Johnson.

He was a truck driver and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria A. Collins Washington of Ferriday; three sons, Robert Skipper of Dallas, TX, Derrick D. Green of Natchez and Roy Collins of San Antonio, TX; four daughters, Robin Barbar of Ferriday, Amy Collins and Danielle Washington of Ferriday and Dessie Jefferson of Jackson; two brothers, Matthew Clark of Ferriday and Isaac Clark of Waterproof; one sister, Vina Matthews of Ferriday; 11 grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
