Dec. 17, 1918 - April 7, 2004

CLAYTON, LA - Services for Rev. Leon Smith Sr., 85, of Ferriday, LA, who died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark Baptist Church in Clayton with the Rev. Michael Smith, the Rev. Charles Chander and the Rev. L. B. Oliver officiating.

Burial will be in St. James Church cemetery in Frogmore, LA under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mercy Seat Baptist Church with Masonic ceremonies included.

Rev. Smith was born Dec. 17, 1918, in Frogmore, the son of Simon and Estella Dyson Smith Sr.

He was a baptist minister and pastor of Springfield Baptist Church in Waterproof, LA and St. Matthews Baptist Church on Lake St. John. He was a member of the Ministerial Alliance of Concordia Parish, UDA Association, Little River Association and Mason Lodge #101.

Rev. Smith was preceded in death by two daughters, Estella Parker and Maggie Skipper.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Carter Smith of Ferriday; three sons, Leon Smith Jr. (Winnie), Clifton Smith (Gladys), all of Ferriday and Rev. Clennon Turner (Glenda) of Leesville, LA; three daughters, Jackie Smith and Sadie Cook of Ferriday and Barbara Biddy (Thomas) of Roanoke, VA; 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Texie Mae Burnette

Nov. 4, 1910 - April 13, 2004

MONTICELLO - Services for Texie Mae Burnette, 93, of Ferriday, LA, who died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Camelot Leisure Living Center, will be at 2 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Monticello.

Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burnette was born Nov. 4, 1910, in Lawrence County, the daughter of Tom Boyd and Hattie Boyd.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Burnette was preceded in death by her husband, Byron William Burnette; one daughter, one sister and two brothers.

Survivors include son, Toxie Burnette of Vidalia, LA; brother, Robert Boyd of Lincoln County; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Robert "Bob" Jones

ST. JOSEPH, LA - Services for Robert "Bob" Jones, 61, of St. Joseph, who died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at his residence, will be at 2 p.m. today at United Pentecostal Church of St. Joseph with the Rev. Jimmy Masters, the Rev. Billy Copeland, the Rev. Cecil C. Perry Sr. and the Rev. Keith Dewayne Butler officiating.

Burial will be in Legion Memorial cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Ferriday.

Visitation is until service time today at the church.

Eddie "Eddie Bo" Trask

Nov. 2, 1949 - April 3, 2004

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Eddie "Eddie Bo" Trask, 54, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Jacksboro, TX, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Lee Andrew Martin officiating.

Burial will be in Ferriday cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Mr. Trask was born Nov. 2, 1949, in Natchez, the son of Leonard and Annese Johnson Trask.

He was employed with James Construction Company.

Mr. Trask was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris Stacker Trask; and one sister, Doris Mims.

Survivors include one daughter, Trisley Trask of Ferriday; four brothers, Joe Lewis Trask of Evansville, IN, Leonard Trask Jr. of Lancaster, TX, Leon Trask of Ferriday and Leroy Trask (Willie Marie) of San Diego, CA; five sisters, Jennie Lawrence of New Orleans, LA, Rose Lou Trask, Sherrie Trask, Victoria Trask and Dottie Trask, all of Baton Rouge, LA; and a number of neices, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts, including Lula J. Jefferson of Ferriday.

Betty Havard Greer

Feb. 6, 1928 - April 14, 2004

ROSETTA - Graveside services for Betty Havard Greer, 76, of Vidalia, LA, who died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rosetta cemetery in Rosetta with the Rev. Barry Dennis officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Brown Funeral Home of Gloster.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Greer was born Feb. 6, 1928, in Amite County, the daughter of Robert Edward Havard and Bertha Forman Havard.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Mrs. Greer was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Greer; and three sisters, Alma Dene Berryhill, Robbie Maxine Greer and Lydia Havard.

Survivors include one daughter, Maureen Greer Orth and Herbert of Vidalia; two granddaughters, Shannon Parker and Fred and Becky Lipscomb and Alan, all of Natchez; two grandsons, Bradley Orth and Becky of Roanoke, VA and Brett Orth and Brandy of Chesterfield, VA; two great-grandsons, Sam Parker and Kyle Orth; one sister, Pat Jackson and T. A. Jr. of Coles; a special care-giver, Jackie Fletcher at Arnold's Personal Care.

Pallbearers will be Michael Greer, Tommy Klar, Darwin Klar, Cavin Greer, T. A. Jackson III and Kenny Jackson.

Marguerite Evelyn Metcalf

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Marguerite Evelyn Metcalf, 77, of Waterproof, LA, who died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Rapides General Medical Center in Alexandria, LA, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Young's Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Curtis Smith and the Rev. Travis Floyd officiating.

Burial will be at Monclova cemetery in Waterproof under the direction of Young's Funeral Home - Ferriday.

Bernice White

FERRIDAY - Funeral services for Bernice White, 76, of Waterproof, La., who died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004 at her residence, are incomplete at Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Willie Mae Penton

FERRIDAY -- Services for Willie Mae Penton, 90, who died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 at Riverland Medical Center, Ferriday, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Young's Funeral Home with Rev. Chester Macpherson officiating.

Burial will follow at Monterey Baptist Church under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Young's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Penton was a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jonesville. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Will and Janie Davis, six sisters, Maggie Burkhalter, Maybell Peoples, Johnnie Peoples, Amizon Townsend, Bonell Davis and Beatrice Davis and one brother, Roy Davis.

Survivors include her son, Joe Penton and wife Marie of Monterey; grandson, Phillip Penton of Monterey; great-grandchild, Maggie Ellen and Christopher Penton of Baton Rouge and her sister Geraldine Hemphill of Ferriday.

The pallbearers will be friends and family.

Richie Paul Jr.

Oct. 12, 1971-Nov. 26, 2004

FERRIDAY, La.- Services for Richie Paul Jr., 33, of Ferriday, La., who died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Mesa, Ariz., will be 2 p.m. today at Young's Funeral Home Ferriday with Preston Welch speaking.

Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Ferriday.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Paul was born Oct. 12, 1971, in Natchez, the son of Richard C. Paul Sr. and Phobe Cutrer'.

He was a resident of Ferriday and was an accomplished musician.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Roy Paul; maternal grandfather, Hansel Burley; uncle, Ronnie Paul; great-grandmother, Vella Randall; and beloved great-great-grandmothers, Gladys Burley and Lula Paul.

Survivors include his mother, Phoebe Cutrer' of Ferriday, La.; father, Richard C. Paul Sr. of Monterey, La.; daughter, Jordan Paul of Ferriday; brother, Blaine Paul of Monterey; sisters, Megan Paul of Monterey and Julie McIntosh of Clayton, La.; paternal grandmother, Marigene Paul of Ferriday; and maternal grandmother, Doris Burley of Ferriday.

Pallbearers will be David Burley and fellow musicians.

VIDALIA, LA - Services for George Allen Ables, 44, of Vidalia, who died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. today at Vidalia Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Richardson, the Rev. Ron Ledford and the Rev. Glen Waller officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mr. Ables was born Aug. 16, 1959, in Natchez, the son of Katherine Ables.

He was an active member of Vidalia Calvary Baptist Church and served as Vice-President of Concordia Christian Club.

Survivors include his wife, Angela B. Ables of Vidalia; two daughters, Laura Camille Ables of Bossier City, LA and Kayla Ann Coleman of Pollock, LA; one son, Justin Kyle Coleman of Pineville, LA; mother, Katherine Ezell of Gilbert, LA; one brother, James "Pete" Ezell and wife, Melissa of Baskin, LA; three sisters, Pat "Susie" Swillie of Natchez, Katie Smith and husband, Syd of Jena, LA and Betty Lewis and husband, Ken of Madison; one step-brother, J. D. Ezell and wife, Marie of Bastrop, LA; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be C. J. Swillie, Gary Waller, Shannon Wilson, Vance Dunn, Tony Braley, John Braley, Johnnie Sugg and Keith Darnell.

VIDALIA, LA - Services for Dr. Edwin E. Hutson, D.C., 68, of Vidalia, who died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Vidalia with the Rev. Gary Nunn officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Vidalia.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Young's Funeral Home Vidalia.

Dr. Hutson was born Feb. 23, 1935, in Jena, LA.

He had been a chiropractor for 42 years, a member of Full gospel Men's Fellowship, Gideons International, Chriopractic Association of Louisiana and a member of First Baptist Church, Vidalia.

Dr. Hutson was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Hutson; his father, George Hutson, Jr.; brother, Elwin Gibson.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Hutson of Vidalia; sons, Bruce Probst and wife, Amy of Mandeville, LA, Tommy Probst and wife, Cheryl and Marty Probst and wife, Debra, all of Vidalia; daughter, Benita Hutson Kimbro and husband, Dave (Rosco) of Vidalia; granddaughers, Kristi Cullen and husband, Scott of Mandeville, Sarah Probst of New Orleans, LA, Dara Probst of Baton Rouge, LA, Kyla Castillo and husband, David of Silver Lake, N.C., Ashley Roberts and husband, Daniel of Natchez, Kimberly Probst and Kayla Probst, both of Vidalia; grandsons, Justin Burnette and wife, Tracy of Vidalia, Adam Probst and Matthew Probst of Vidalia, Brandon Burnette of Vidalia; great-grandsons, Joshua Cullen of Mandeville, Christopher Burnette of Vidalia, Nicholas Cullen of Mandeville, Ashtin Castillo of Silver Lake, N.C., Tiler Castillo of Silver Lake and Gabriel Cullen of Natchez; great-granddaughters, Brittanie Burnette of Vidalia, Ryleigh Probst of Vidalia; special friends, Beverly Yeates and husband, Tommy of Natchez; sister, Elaine Hutson Paul and husband, Hershal of Deville, LA; nieces, Tonya Paul Backe and husband, Craig, Julie Paul and Brett Bolin and Kara Paul.

William "Will" Smith

VIDALIA, LA - Services for William "Will" Smith, 55, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church in Vidalia with the Rev. Carl Smith officiating.

Burial will be in the Vidalia cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 22, 1948, in Natchez, the son of Sam Woods and Lubertha Smith Johnson.

He was a dozer operator.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, Sam Woods.

Survivors include his mother, Lubertha Smith Johnson of Vidalia; fiance', Betty L.
