CHARLTON, OLGA HOBGOOD
A homemaker and resident of Baton Rouge, she died Monday, July 28, 2003, at 2:40 p.m. She was 81 and a native of Maringouin. Memorial service will be private. She is survived by two daughters, Connie Charlton Plunket and Terri Charlton Stone; a son, Howard A. Charlton Jr.; a sister, Althea Mae Hobgood Kent; grandchildren, Lori Plunket Tramel, Darney, Diana and Bryan Plunket, Adam Johnson and Jason Charlton; and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Blaine, Britney and Charlton Tramel, Austin and Hodge Plunket and Rayne Charlton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Charlton; father, Joseph M. Hobgood; and mother, Thelma P. Hobgood.

COPPENBARGER, SHIRLEY SPRAGUE
A loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, she died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Gonzales. She was 74, a native of Farmer City, Ill., and a resident of Gonzales. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Religious service at First United Methodist Church of Gonzales at 1 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. Gary Willis. Interment in New River Methodist Church cemetery. Survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and Royce Duff, Warrensburg, Ill., Mary and Ernie Sperry, St. Elmo, Ill., and Judy Ampe, Gonzales; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Rhonda Coppenbarger, Gonzales; a brother, Richard Sprague; and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. preceded in death by her husband, Harold P. Coppenbarger; and father and mother, Jesse Wade and Martha Windship Sprague. Pallbearers will be Brian Duff, Kevin Duff, Matthew Duff, Matt Roberts, Jesse Coppenbarger and Dennis Childress. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gonzales.

DELAUNE, BERYL DUGAS
A resident of Thibodaux, she died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003. She was 82, born Oct. 14, 1920, in Donaldsonville. Visitation was at Thibodaux Funeral Home, Thibodaux, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Visitation at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral from 1 p.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. Friday. Interment in St. Joseph cemetery. Survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Joann DeLaune and Mark and Cheri DeLaune, all of Thibodaux; a daughter and son-in-law, Beryl D. and Phil Gordy of Zachary; nine grandchildren, Jean McDaniel Woodside, Jennifer McDaniel Kleinpeter, Sean McDaniel, David, John, Francesca, Ashley and Byron DeLaune, and Leroy Adams; six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. preceded in death by her husband, Gene DeLaune; parents, Henry A. Dugas and Loretta Monticino Dugas; a grandson, Christopher DeLaune; two brothers, Henry A. Dugas Jr. and Malcom Dugas Sr.; and three sisters, Annabel Rome, Loretta Rome and Rosemary LeBlanc. She was a member of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral and a charter member of Ta-Wa-Si. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.

EASTERLING, HARRY JOE
A retired maintenance supervisor for the state of Louisiana and a resident of Jackson, he died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. He was 68, born Nov. 25, 1934, in Walthall County, Miss. He was a veteran of the Mississippi National Guard. Visiting at Newman Funeral Home, Centreville, Miss., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Visiting at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until religious service at 3 p.m. Saturday, conducted by Dr. Joe Nesom. Interment in Ebenezer cemetery. Survived by his wife, Hattie Holmes Easterling, Jackson; a daughter, Betsy Easterling Temple, Greenwell Springs; two sons, Don Easterling, Clinton, and Joseph P. Easterling, Jackson; two sisters, Nettie Faye Williams, Angie, and Jean Knippers, Tylertown, Miss.; a brother, Steve Easterling Sr., Jackson; and eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Eula Mae Magee Easterling; a son, Gary Steve Easterling; and two brothers, C.A. and Robert Evan Easterling. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Jackson.

FRIDAY, STEPHEN MATTHEW "STEVE"
Steve went to join his beloved wife, Lorraine, on Wednesday, July 23, 2003. He was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Clairton, Pa., where he was born on July 8, 1918. He is survived by his son, Steven; daughter, Beverly and her husband William Moehle; his much-loved grandsons, Christopher and Mark Moehle; a sister Mary Madden; and brothers, Joseph Piatek, Paul Friday and John Friday. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine DePaola Friday; parents, Frank and Margaret Friday; sister, Helen Friday; and brothers, Matthew, Frank and Michael Friday. He retired from Hercules as a purchasing agent and storeroom keeper. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed life and enjoyed making life easier and fun for others. He worked for the U.S. Navy on the fleet at Pearl Harbor during World War II. He married his childhood friend, Lorraine, there at St. Augustine's By the Sea. He liked traveling and classical music but loved polkas. Visitation at St. Thomas More Catholic Church from 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, until a memorial Mass at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a favorite charity or by just doing something nice for someone as he did every day of his life.

FUGLER, JR. WILLIAM "JUNE"
A retired iron worker and resident of Baton Rouge, he died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. He was 60 and a native of Woodville, Miss. Visitation at New Light Baptist Church, 650 Blount Road, from 9 a.m. Saturday until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Frank Green Jr. Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. Survived by his wife, Cynthia Grimes Fugler; a daughter, Nicosha Queen; a son, Ruston J. Fugler; three sisters, Florence Fugler Lucas and husband Henry, Ophelia Fugler Lewis and husband Joe, and Cherlyn Fugler; two brothers, George Fugler Sr. and wife Irene, and Fredrick Fugler and wife Patricia; two grandchildren, Joereion B. Augustus and Krisite Collins; mother-in-law, Ethel M. Moore; a brother-in-law, Donald C. Grimes; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. preceded in death by his parents, William Fugler Sr. and Fannie Hawkins Fugler; three brothers, Lawrence, Charles and Ernest Fugler; and a brother-in-law, Timothy B. Grimes. He was a choir member at True Vine Baptist Church, 905 Greb St., the Rev. Frank Green Jr., pastor. Carney-Mackey Funeral Home, 1576 Robin St., in charge of arrangements.

GAUTHREAUX, MURPHY JOSEPH "COACH MURPHY"
An employee of Red Simpson Electrical and a resident of Denham Springs, he died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. He was 40 and a native of New Orleans. Visitation at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday. Visitation at Calvary Baptist Church, New Orleans, from 11 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Keith Manuel. Interment in Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn Gauthreaux of Denham Springs; and father of Gregory Joseph Gauthreaux and Chase Manning Gauthreaux. He is also survived by his parents, Earl and Sharon Gauthreaux; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Christine Gauthreaux of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joy and Greg Bazin of Slidell; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. He was a boys baseball coach with the Live Oak Sports Association since 1995. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Foundation.

GOSSERAND, FELTON JOSEPH "SKEET"
A retired professional painter and a resident of Los Angeles, he died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at his home. He was 65 and a native of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Visitation at Winnfield Funeral Home, 7221 Plank Road, from 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, until recitation of the rosary at 10 a.m. Religious service at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Michael Knaw Saah-Buckman, S.S.J. Interment in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery. Survived by a sister, Ophelia Gosserand Stephens, Columbia, Md.; a brother, James Harris Gosserand, Baton Rouge; and a host of other relatives and friends. preceded in death by his parents, William Trilon and Everlena Valdry Gosserand; and a brother, William Peter Gosserand. He was a martial arts karate expert, attended McKinley Senior High School and was a former member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

HALL, CARL WINDELL "SHINE"
A laborer and resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Gonzales. He was 45 and a native of Gonzales. Visiting at Lawson-Rollins Purple Shield Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Religious service at Do Right Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Adrien Claiborne. Interment in church cemetery. Survived by his fiancee, Jacqueline Davis, Baton Rouge; three sisters, Barbara and Grace Hall, and Elisa Queen of Gonzales; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. preceded in death by his father, mother, a brother and a stepson.

JAMES, PERCY
A retired pipe fitter with BASF, TDI Unit, Geismar, he died Monday, July 28, 2003, at 11:45 p.m. He was 68 and a resident and native of Baker. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force. Visiting at Shady Grove First Missionary Baptist Church, Baker, from 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, until religious service at noon, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth W. Chandler. Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. He is survived by a daughter, Shena Michelle Byrd; and a sister, Jessie Mae James-Simon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine H. James; parents, Albert and Mattie James; and a brother, Albert James Jr. Arrangements entrusted to Hall's Mortuary, Port Allen.
