HAMMOND, LARRY DeANGELO ‘BOODIE'
September 6, 2002

Larry DeAngelo "Boodie" Hammond, a laborer, died Aug. 28 of a gunshot wound at Charity Hospital. He was 25. Mr. Hammond was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Crocker Elementary School, S.J. Green Junior High School and Walter L. Cohen Senior High School. He was a former employee with Task Force Temporary Service. Survivors include his companion, Demetria Shaw; a son, Quincy DeAngelo Shaw; three stepdaughters, Brittany, Brione and Quintrell Shaw; his father, Larry Hammond; his mother, Sandra K. Garner; his stepfather, Willie Birden Jr.; three brothers, Alfonso Garner of Baton Rouge, Kawanas Hammond and Gary Hammond; and a sister, Calisa Hammond. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Galilee Church of God in Christ, 1520 Alvar St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Avondale. Tilly's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FREDERIC, RUBY FAY BENGE
September 6, 2002

Ruby Fay Benge Frederic, a telephone operator and clerk for the federal government, died Thursday at Northshore Living Center in Slidell. She was 92. Mrs. Frederic was born in Jacksonville, Texas, and lived in Lacombe for more than 50 years. She was a member of United Methodist Church's Women's Missionary Union. She was also a member of the Lacombe Garden Club and Camellia Club, and she received many ribbons and awards for raising rare plant specimens and blooms. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Toomer cemetery in Lacombe.

FORD, AISHA TEREZA
September 6, 2002

Aisha Tereza Ford, a parking attendant, died Monday of intraventricular hemorrhage at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was 29. Ms. Ford was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from John Ehret Senior High School and attended Delgado Community College. She was a member of Second Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include her companion, Willie Michael Garrison Jr.; a daughter, Destinni Annyla Garrison; her father, Charles Edward Ford; her mother, Mildred Napoleon Ford; a brother, Jason Edward Ford Sr.; a sister, Tiona Lynn Ford; and her grandparents, William Napoleon Ford Sr., Lucy Ford Allen and Yvonne Dumas Napoleon. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Second Zion Baptist Church, 6520 Linda St., Marrero. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery.

FIELDS, WILLIE DAVIS
September 6, 2002

Willie Davis Fields, a self-employed truck driver, died Saturday of a pulmonary embolism at Kenner Regional Medical Center. He was 53. Mr. Fields was born in Opelousas and lived in Kenner for the past 37 years. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Fields; a son, Leonard Fields; five brothers, Lanetic, Landrus, Howard and Matthew Fields, all of Houston, and Andrew Fields of Gonzales; three sisters, Viola Chambers and Shirley Robinson, both of Houston, and Mary Ann Malcolm of Marrero; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Baptist Church, Louisiana 103, Port Barre. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in St. John Baptist Church cemetery. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

DUCHANE, JOYCE MARIE
September 6, 2002

Joyce Marie Duchane, a sitter, died Tuesday of complications from lupus at Memorial Medical Center. She was 42. Ms. Duchane was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School. She was a member of First Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Landry Terrell Duchane; a daughter, Quntessa Tajuana Duchane; three brothers, Morel, Arthur and John Ellis Jr.; four sisters, Cynthia Ann Thompson, Adele White, Shirley Garner and Odessa Ellis; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at First Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 2919 Sixth St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. Magee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

COLLINS, GREGORY
September 6, 2002

Gregory Collins, a licensed chauffeur, died Sunday of gunshot wounds at his home. He was 45. Mr. Collins was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from McDonogh No. 35 High School. Survivors include two sons, Aston D. and Aaron P. Collins; a daughter, Ansel C. Franklin; his mother, Lizzie Collins; and three sisters, Marilyn C. Smith and Joyce and Sheila Collins. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Historic St. James A.M.E. Church, 222 N. Roman St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Roch cemetery No. 2. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CHIN-LAI, PAUL
September 6, 2002

Paul Chin-Lai, a retired office manager, died Tuesday of complications of heart surgery at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 76. Mr. Chin-Lai was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a member of Westside Amateur Radio Club and Chinese Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Anna Sit Chin-Lai; a son, Paul Daniel Chin-Lai of Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Pam Jarboe of Dallas and Paula Hom; three sisters, Helen Tassitano of New Jersey, Doris Halbrook of Pollack and Jane Moulin; and six grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park.

BROWN, HATTIE MAUDE WILLIAMS
September 6, 2002

Hattie Maude Williams Brown, a founding assistant professor at Southern University of New Orleans, died Tuesday at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She was 85. Mrs. Brown was born in Natchitoches Parish and lived in New Orleans for the past 48 years. She received a bachelor's degree from Prairie View A&M; College and a master of science degree from Indiana University. She was a nurse in the Army Nurse Corps and a head nurse at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, at McHarry Medical College. She was the first nurse at SUNO. She taught health at Grambling State University, Dillard University and SUNO. She was a golden life member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, established the Epsilon Chi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta at SUNO and served as a sorority adviser for many years. Survivors include several cousins. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 2200 Louisiana Ave. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BROWN, LILLIAN BOUDREAUX
September 6, 2002

Lillian Boudreaux Brown, a homemaker, died Tuesday at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was 77. Mrs. Brown was born in Matthews and lived in Harahan for the past 30 years. She graduated from Lockport High School. Survivors include three sons, Wallace Sawaya of Haltom City, Texas, and Raymond and Stanley Brown Jr.; a brother, Horace Boudreaux; a sister, Mildred Cantrelle; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at noon at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

BOVIE, LOUISE ‘PIE' YOUNG
September 6, 2002

Louise "Pie" Young Bovie, a retired cosmetologist, died Sept. 2 of undetermined causes at her home. She was 67. Mrs. Bovie was born in Edgard and lived in Marrero. She was a former employee of Belle Chasse State School. Survivors include her mother, Ophelia Y. Lumar; six daughters, Cheryl B. Armstead, Wanda B. and Toni B. Mays, Myrna B. Potter, Trudy A. Bovie and Marilyn B. Pearley; two sons, Gerald Bovie and Esler Bovie Jr.; three sisters, Lorenza Y. Simmons, Yolanda Lumar Miller and Joyce Marquez; three brothers, Charles and Vernon Lumar and Otis Lumar Jr.; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greater New St. Peter Baptist Church on West Third Street in Edgard. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Park in Avondale. The Baloney Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Conrad Gerard Bourgeois, a retired employee of BellSouth, died Tuesday of cancer. He was 62. Mr. Bourgeois was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 30 years. He was a graduate of St. Louis Cathedral School, St. Aloysius High School and Northrop Institute of Technology in California. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Pollet Brooks Bourgeois; a stepson, Jay Brooks Jr.; two stepdaughters, Cherie Eues and Donna Swope; a brother, Ronald Bourgeois; a sister, Lois Engel; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said today at noon at Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church, 1000 N. Starrett Road, Metairie. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
