Chris “Val” Hanchey, 77, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, February 15, 2015 surrounded by his family. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Greg Hanchey & wife Diana of DeRidder, LA, Paul Hanchey & wife Missy of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Kristy Barron & husband Bart of Merryville, LA, Valerie Hanchey of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Allen Hanchey & wife Margarit of Merryville, LA; 8 granchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 grand dogs. Mr. Hanchey was preceded in death his parents, Chris & Nell Hanchey.

Mr. Hanchey was born September 30, 1937 to Chris & Nell Hanchey in DeRidder. He graduated from DeRidder High School in 1956. He worked at DeRidder City Police Dept., owner & operator of Hanchey’s Texaco Station , and he was a school bus driver for Beauregard Parish School System. He was a member of the DeRidder Masonic Lodge #271. He loved flying remote control airplanes.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 5:00pm until 10:00pm and Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 10:00am until time of funeral service at 1:00pm all at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Rev. Lindsey Burns will officiate. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Billy Bailey
April 4, 1930 - May 10, 2015
Billy Ray Bailey, 85, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at his home. Mr. Bailey was born in DeQuincy, LA, and grew up in Groves, TX. He served in the AirForce and continued with work in Air Craft Industries working for Lockheed-Martin, Boeing, and Northrup-Grumman. He continued his military connection last, working with Joint Readiness Center at Fort Polk. Bill was a Mason through Lodge 290. He was also belonged to the Shriners and Scottish Rights. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3619 and American Legion Post 27.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Allen E. Bailey and wife Denise, Billy R. Bailey and wife Debbie, and Scott Bailey and wife Denice, and Donna Jean Bailey Carter and husband Billy; sister, Beverly Goldman; 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grand children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Bailey; parents, Bethard and Daisy Bailey; daughter, Jan Marie Walker; grandson, Shanon Carter.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 5:00pm until 10:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service is Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Rev. Chuck LaCroux will officiate.

Bobby Mills
July 12, 1932 - May 9, 2015
Bobby Ray Mills, 82, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Mr. Mills was a coach and teacher for over 30 years. He was a 1950 graduate of DeRidder High School and a graduate of McNeese State University. He played football in the Air Force and played 2 years for McNeese.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jo Ann Cole Mills; son, Robert Mills and wife Juanita; grandchildren, Colt, Logan and Halston Mills all of DeRidder, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hilda Mills; sister, Wanda Davis; and son, John Mitchell Mills.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service is Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 10:00am at Bilbo Church of Christ in DeRidder. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Jay Alexander will officiate.

Major (Ret.) James Jones Jr.
January 4, 1917 - May 8, 2015
Major (Ret.) James Clifton Jones, 98, of DeRidder, LA, passed away from this life, May 8, 2015 in Jennings Veterans Home. He was born January 4, 1917, in Franklin, Tennessee to James Clifton and Nonnie Jones.

He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of active service, having served in both World War II and the Korean War. He returned to Fort Polk as a civilian, as director of communications and electronics, continuing to serve his country another 10 years. He was a member of Bilbo Church of Christ in DeRidder.

Major’s outlook on life was the same as the advice he gave his children, “You put one foot in front of the other and walk the path placed in front of you”. His devotion and wisdom will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Jones Barrett; his wife of 54 years, Willie Pearl Averritt Jones; daughter, Mary Ann Jones; son, James Alvin Jones; and second wife, Helen Buchanan Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jeraldine (Jerry) Daffin Jones; daughter, Bonnie Sue Jones Carrillo (Roger); step-daughters, Glenda Sue Cooley Heard (Doug), Cathy Buchanan Clark (Lawrence), and Wilma Buchanan Propst; step-son, Terry Glen Cooley (Mickie); three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; 10 step-grand children and 12 step-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 11, 2015 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. A Military Graveside service will be held at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 11:00am. Rev. Jay Alexander will officiate.

The family is deeply grateful for the excellent care given by Dr. Stephen Farquhar, the nursing staff at Jennings Veterans Home and Amedisys Hospice group.

Linda Broeder
June 14, 1933 - May 8, 2015
Linda Broeder, 81, of Merryville, LA, passed from life on Friday, May 8, 2015 in Lake Charles, LA. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Charles Ray Broeder and wife Karen of Farmerville, LA, and Paul Broeder and wife Marion of Merryville, LA; brother, David Stanley Warnell of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Allbrie Broeder of Hammond, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil R. Broeder; daughter, Cathy Lynn Broeder-Whiddon.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, May 10, 2015 at 1:00 at Cannon cemetery in Merryville, LA. Rev. Rick Watson will officiate.

Veronica Wilson
April 6, 1969 - May 7, 2015
Veronica Elizabeth Wilson, 46, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at her home. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Emerick Wilson; mother, Rosie Jackson; father, Harold Porter Sr. and wife Diane; brother, Harold Porter Jr.; godchild, Kaydon Piper; and grandmother, Beatrice Acker all of DeRidder, LA. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Verda Mayes; uncles, Earnest Hayes and George Mayes; and godfather, Pastor, James Piper Jr.

Visitation and funeral service will be Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will begin at 12:00pm until time of service at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Community cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Rev. Ronald Jordan will officiate.

Auria Malone

Auria Jade Malone, passed away May 7, 2015.
Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Stacie Malone; father, Darrin Harper; brother, James Person III; sister, Ella Harper; grandparents, Scott and Tina Branch, Joey Malone, Vicky and Sam Thibodeaux; great grandparents, Sharon and Curtis Eatherly, and Eddie and Lil Malone; aunts, Kailene Malone, Victoria Branch, Sara Gill, and Courtney Brewer.
She was preceded in death by her great grandmother, Doris Malone.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:00am at Old Cypress cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Rev. Jimmy Coody will officiate.

Linn Ryals
October 7, 1957 - May 3, 2015
Tommy Linn Ryals, 57 of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at his home. His dog “Charlie” was his best buddy. He loved to feed and catch fish. He was always helping others.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Linda Jordan Ryals; father, Tommy Ryals; sister, Kim Kelty; aunts, Judy Walker, and Rilla Mae Jackson and husband Frank; niece, Emily Kelty; nephew, Chris Kelty. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman and Eloise Jordan, and Joseph and Daisy Ryals; and brother-in-law, Kevin Kelty

Wanda Keel, 67, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Burt Keel; sons, Kenneth Naquin and wife Anessa, and Stacy Fee; daughter, Katty Lummus and husband James all of DeRidder, LA; sister, Jackie Womack of Merryville, LA; grandchildren, Ashley Lucius and husband Brent, Dakota Lummus, Tony Naquin, Dustin Lummus, Amber Fee, Clint Naquin, Cassie Naquin, Isaiah Naquin; great grandchildren, Chloe and Isabella Lucius; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Amy Myers; brothers, Bob and D.T. Myers; and sister, Tubby Thompson and Mildred McDonald.

Loubert Sonnier
November 11, 1939 - April 30, 2015
Loubert O. Sonnier, loving husband and father, passed away on April 30, 2015 at his residence surrounded by family. Mr. Sonnier, 75, of DeRidder, LA, donated his body to the Will Body Program of Tulane University Medical School. He was born in Basile, LA and resided in Sulphur, LA for a number of years before moving to DeRidder for the past 6 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie W. Sonnier and Emma Fruge Sonnier; wife, Joyce LeBlanc Sonnier; brothers, Sidney, Lawrence, and Raymond Sonnier. He is survived by his son, Tommy J. Sonnier and wife Debbie Daniels Sonnier of DeRidder, LA; daughter, Christine F. Suarez and husband Wilford J. Suarez of Sulphur, LA; grandchildren, Diana Sonnier Evans and husband Ed Robert Evans, Joshua Suarez and wife Monica Brown Suarez, Justin Sonnier, Andrew Suarez, Matt Suarez and wife Jessica LeBlanc Suarez, Marla Suarez Snyder and husband John Snyder, Ericka Harvey, Michael Harvey, Sandy Harvey Broxson and husband Skyler Broxson, Jamie Harvey, Corie Harvey; sisters, Marie June Ella Sonnier Hornung, Diane Lou Mary Bishop, and Helen Ann Stine; great grand children, Morgan Snyder, Hayden Snyder, Jayce Walker, Wyatt Evans, Bayleigh Suarez, Lucy Suarez and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Sonnier was a U.S. Army Veteran serving 4 years in the service of our country. He then became a heavy equipment operator, industrial painter, and spent 26 years in oilfield industry, then 12 years as Long-haul truck driver, and retired from Turner Industries.

No memorial service is planned at this time per Mr. Sonnier’s wishes.

Thomas Harris
July 8, 1939 - April 30, 2015
Thomas (Tom) Roy Harris Sr. 75, was born in Goldonna, LA on July 8, 1939 and transferred into the presence of Jesus on April 30, 2015. Tom was a resident of DeRidder, LA. He loved to hunt, fish, play golf and watch birds. He gave guided tours for bird watching.

Tom served people in many ways. He helped disadvantaged individuals. He worked at God’s Food Box and served faithfully for many years at First Baptist Church of DeRidder. At First Baptist he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School worker. He loved to sing about his Lord Jesus. Tom sang in both the Celebration Choir and Joy Singers at First Baptist.

Tom received his bachelor’s degree in forestry from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. He also studied at Northwestern State University and LSU. Most of Tom’s professional career was spent with Boise Cascade.

The best way to describe Tom is to say he was loving, serving and caring. He was also very sharp and witty.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Ernest Harris of Goldonna and LeMee Meek Harris of Reidheimer, LA; son, Glenn Morgan Harris of Sweeney, TX.

Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Morgan Harris of DeRidder; son, Thomas Roy Harris Jr. and wife, Becky of Lewisville, TX; daughter-in-law, Jamie Harris of Sweeney, TX; grandchildren, Taylor LeMee Harris, Mary Kaitlin Harris and Hannah Elizabeth Harris of Lewisville, TX, Reese Cook of Lewisville, TX and Colton Cook of San Antonio, TX; brother, Ernest Glynn Harris and wife Kay of Ruston, LA; and sister, Linda Harris DuPree and husband Roy of Goldonna, LA.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service is Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 10:00am at First Baptist Church of DeRidder. Burial will follow at Cooper cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Rev. Lindsey Burns will officiate.
