January 18, 1936 - March 3, 2013

Woodrow "Woody" Dearmon passed from this life on Sunday, March 3, 2013.
Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers, J.B. Dearmon of Minneapolis, MN, John Dearmon , O.D. Dearmon and Roscoe Dearmon all of DeRidder, LA; sisters, Margie Ferguson of Kinder, LA and Bealuh Robertson of Hope, AR and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Julie Dearmon; brothers, Lonzo Dearmon and Otto Dearmon.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Bro. Roy Hoosier and Bro. Wayne Lacaze will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Oak cemetery in Kinder, LA.

Pastor Leon Anderson
June 21, 1951 - March 1, 2013

Former Texas resident, Pastor Leon Anderson, 61, died March 1, 2013. Pastor Anderson was born June 21, 1951, in Orange, Texas to Ira Daniel and Thelma Marie Anderson. Pastor Anderson started his ministry from early on at age 12, only to follow in the footsteps of his father. His ministry spanned over the course of 50 years throughout the USA as well as internationally. Pastor Anderson served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a military field clerk. He spent 18 months in Cambodia. Pastor Anderson came to Louisiana with his wife, Louella, in 1981 where he founded New Testament Apostolic Holiness Church which still stands strong today. Pastor Anderson spent more than 30 years in Longville. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Louella; 2 sons, Michael Leon and Derek; daughter, Krystal Renee and grandchildren, Meagan, Alexis Michelle and Emily Taylor and host of many nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013 at New Testament Apostolic Holiness Church in Longville, LA from 5:00pm until time of service. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 10:00am also at New Testament Apostolic Holiness Church. Burial will follow at Barentine cemetery in Longville. Rev. Mack Swain will officiate.

Janis Williams
July 23, 1933 - March 1, 2013
Janis Mae Williams, 79, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Friday, March 1, 2013. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Judi Bailey and husband Barney of DeRidder, LA; grandchildren, Greg Bailey, Travis Bailey, Lori Stevenson, Buddy Pitre, Ricky Pitre, Herman Fabian and Justin Bailey; 14 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 11:00am also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hopewell cemetery in DeRidder. Buddy Freeman will officiate.

Louise Parnell-Keel
January 5, 1932 - March 1, 2013
Louise Parnell-Keel, 81, of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Friday, March 1, 2013. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Joe Joshlin and wife Connie of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Judy Joshlin Purvis and husband Richard, of Gulf Port, MS, Barbara Joshlin Burr of Jasper, TX and Ulita Faye Joshlin Watson and husband Alvin, of Evans, LA; brothers, John Parnell and wife Gwen, of Florida, Henry Parnell of Newton, TX and Wilburn Parnell and wife, Wanda of Pineland, TX; sisters, Eva Parnell of Bronson, TX, Eula Parnell Batson and husband Dan, of Bon Weir, TX and Joyce Parnell Procell of Bronson, TX; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Newton, TX, with funeral services beginning at 3:00pm on Sunday. Burial will follow at Newton cemetery in Newton, TX. Bro. Jimmy Simmons and Rev. Mathew Holloway will officiate.

Kenneth Randall Gill
September 4, 1958 - February 24, 2013
Kenneth Randall Gill, 54, of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at his home. Mr. Gill was a life resident of the Merryville area. He worked as a diesel mechanic but worked on anything. He loved to hunt and fish and was of the apostolic faith. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother and step-father, Helen and David Stracener; step-brother, David L. “Bubba” Stracener of DeRidder, LA; sisters, Karen Kauffman and husband Steve of Merryville, LA, Cherylene Hickman and husband Giles of Longville, LA, Kristie Nolen and husband Curtis of Pitkin, LA, Katie Knox and husband Johnnie of DeRidder, LA, and step-sister, Darlene Stracener and husband Bill of DeRidder, LA and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 10:00am also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Foshee cemetery in Merryville, LA. Bro. Clyde Dowden will officiate.

Otto Stephens
March 22, 1918 - February 21, 2013
Otto Joseph Stephens, retired Game Warden and cattle farmer passed away on February 21, 2013 at Rosepine Retirement Center. Otto was born March 22, 1918 in Leesville, LA to Willie G. and Doshie (Cryer) Stephens. He passed away a few weeks shy of his 95th birthday.

A longtime resident of the Cottonwood Community, Mr. Stephens entered the Army in January, 1941. While at Camp Shelby, Mississippi for training, he met and married Adell Pace and they enjoyed 65 and 1/2 years of marriage before her death in 2008. While in the Army, Mr. Stephens served in the campaigns of New Guinea & Luzon, receiving a Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, American Theater Ribbon and World War Two Victory Medal. Additionally he was awarded a JRTC appreciation medal in 2010. He recently received the Louisiana Veterans honor Medal.

After his military career, Mr. Stephens was hired as a Louisiana Wildlife Game Technician in 1964. In 1966, he was commissioned as Louisiana Game Warden. He retired in 1980 from his career as game warden, a job he took great pride in.

Those left to cherish his memory are his adopted family, Eugene and Corinne Broxson of Merryville, LA; adopted grandson, Preston E. Broxson of Cottonwood, LA; adopted granddaughter, Sarah Grace Broxson of Lubbock, TX; nieces, Lee Ann Street of Cottonwood, LA and Ruby Alexander of Irving, TX; nephews, Eddie Stephens of Cottonwood, LA, Jim Stephens of Baton Rouge, LA, Glynn Stephens of Morgan City, LA and Hugh Street of Philippines; 9 great nieces and nephews; 13 great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, two brothers, James Ottis Stephens and Robert Calvin Stephens, and sister, Lula Mae Stephens Burden. Pallbearers, Russell Brack, Preston Broxson, Wendell Lee Smith, Brian Street, Joshua Street and Nathaniel Street. Honorary Pallbearers are Sam Craft, Buck Fellows, Frankie Howard, Chris Jeane, Roland Mitcham, Garth Mitcham, Joe Simmons, Buck Spillers, Eddie Stephens, Glynn Stephens, James O. Stephens, Jr. and Russell Suire.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA with funeral service beginning at 3:00pm. Burial will follow at Hinson cemetery in the Knight Community, LA. Rev. T.J. Bordelon will officiate. The family wishes to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice & Rosepine Retirement Home and Dr. Pandya.

In lieu of flowers, Otto and Adell requested that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Donations may be mailed to St. Jude’s-Tribute account #32951321, P.O. Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148.

Lela Scott
December 26, 1932 - February 20, 2013
Lela Scott, 80, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in Baker, LA Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Zachary Scott and wife Illma of DeRidder, LA, Randell Scott and wife Melanie of DeRidder, LA and Arthur Scott of Kenner, LA; daughters, Mary Whitman of DeRidder, LA, Patricia Wallace of Baton Rouge, LA, Angie McNeely and husband Vicky of Baker, LA, and Dorsey Madison and husband Larry of Suffolk, VA. She is survived by 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoy Scott, aunt, Molly Brown; parents, George and Odessa Dixon; brothers, H.T. Dixon and George Dixon and sister, Jessie Lee Dixon. Mrs. Scott worked for West Bros. for many years.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 2:00pm also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Old Cypress Creek cemetery in Cypress Creek. Andy Ebanks will officiate.

David Gillis
January 18, 1949 - February 19, 2013

David Glen Gillis, 64, of Starks, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Greg Gillis and wife Becky of Starks, LA; niece, Melinda Johnson; great nieces, Jordan Gillis and Kennedie Stewart. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Lawson and Vernell Gillis and sister, Poppy Buxton Harvell. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 6:00pm until 10:00pm at First Baptist Church in Starks, LA. Funeral services will be Friday, February 22, 2013 at 12:00 noon also at First Baptist Church of Starks. Burial will follow at Gillis cemetery in Starks. Rev. Jaceson Johnson will officiate.

Linda Marie Johnson
July 13, 1948 - February 18, 2013
Linda Marie Johnson, 64, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Monday, February 18, 2013 at her home. She was a great Moma and loving Nana and lived her life for her family and for the Lord. She will be missed but not forgotten. We love you Moma. She was preceeded in death by her husband, J.E. “Highpockets” Johnson; son, John Hardy Johnson, Jr., her parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister, 1 niece and 1 nephew.

Christy Strickland, 37, of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Thursday, February 14, 2013. Christy, was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Keith Strickland; sons, Zachary and Walker Strickland; daughter, Haili Strickland; granddaughter, Xoey Strickland all of Merryville, LA; mother, Linda Patterson of Evans, LA and she was blessed with two wonderful fathers, Wayne Patterson of Evans, LA; and Ronald Clark of Bossier City, LA; brothers, Jason Clark and wife Stacey of DeRidder, LA and Wayne Patterson of Conroe, TX; sisters, Leah Smith and husband Alfred of Evans, LA and Felicia Hayes and husband James of Grand Cane, LA; grandparents, Syviel Jeane and Mary Erickson. She was preceeded in death by her brother, Gary Lynn Patterson, great grandmother, Annie Jarrell, grandmother, Jolene DeMent and grandparents, Josie and Dan Patterson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 12:00 noon until time of service on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 2:00pm at Congregational Methodist Church in Evans, LA. Burial will follow at Evans Community cemetery in Evans, LA. Bro. Kevin Coward and Bro. Phillip Jarrell will officiate.
