Carl Eugene "Gene" Orr

July 11, 1953 - January 2, 2011

Funeral services for Mr. Carl Eugene Gene Orr, age 57, will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Oak Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Hawthorn officiating. Burial will be in the Plain Dealing Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing, LA.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at Bailey Funeral Home in Plain Dealing.

Mr. Orr, a lifelong resident of this area, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at his home. He was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, was a veteran of the US Air Force and was employed as a RN for 15 years. He served on the volunteer fire department Bossier Parish Fire District #7 and worked on lawn mowers in his free time. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Lauren Orr Long and her husband, Heath; son, John Carl Orr and wife, Amber all of Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Savannah and Wyatt; his mother, Gloria Morgan Orr of Bossier City, LA; father, William F. Orr and wife, Nelda of Mexia, TX; sisters, Marie Purcell and Frances Orr Kilgore, both of Plain Dealing, LA; Carolyn Moore and husband, Kenny of Vicksburg, MS; brother, David Orr and wife, Carol of Plain Dealing, LA; and, a number of nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Dewett, Roger Jenkins, Marvin Audrich, Steve Smith, Steve Rivers and Cliff Cannon. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Volunteer Fire Department District #7.

The family wishes to say thank you to Tammy Driskell and the Life-Path Hospice for their loving care.

David Pick Downs
December 28, 1930 - August 13, 2012

Graveside services for Mr. David Pick Downs, age 81, will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Cotton Valley Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Cotton Valley, LA.

Visitation will begin Friday at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Bailey Funeral Home, Cotton Valley, LA.

Mr. Downs was born December 28, 1930 in Larkinsville, AL to Ben Lather and Ora Lou Benson Downs, Sr. and passed away Monday, August 13, 2012 in Longview, TX. He was a resident of Longview, TX, of the Baptist faith and was a graduate of LeTourneau University. Mr. Downs retired from LeTourneau Industry after 40 years as Sales Administrator and was a US Army Korean Conflict.

He is survived by three sons, Jerry Lynn Downs of Tucson, AZ, David Alan Downs of Longview, TX, Roy Gene Downs and wife, Chambrine of Hallsville, TX; daughter, Rhea D. Boerhof of Winnsboro, TX; sister, Joyce Downs Dick of Cotton Valley, LA; brother, Jack Downs and wife, Rose of Minden, LA; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Downs, Verona Downs and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Downs was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrtle Lee Breland Downs; six brothers, Ben, Jr., John Henry, Jerry W., Bobby, Larry, Richard and four sisters, Helen Downs, Mary D. McCann, Shirley D. Owen and Susan Downs.

Serving as pallbearer will be his sons and grandsons.

Dennis Layne Durham

February 10, 1951 - November 19, 2012

Funeral services for Mr. Dennis Layne Durham, age 61, will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Triplet and Dalton Triplet officiating. Interment will follow in Old Town Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Haynesville, LA.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home.

Mr. Durham was born February 10, 1951 to Robert and Lila Ruth Watts Durham in Haynesville, LA and passed away Monday, November 19, 2012 in Shreveport, LA. He was a resident of Haynesville and a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Durham was known as a local pharmacist, owning Double D Pharmacy and then an employee of Fred痴 Pharmacy for over 30 years. He lived for hunting, fishing and anything else outdoors. He was a loving father to his two children and loved his wife of 29 years dearly. Anyone who knew him would describe him as a complicated man, but was very giving and would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need. Mr. Durham began his battle with cancer in April, 2008. After being diagnosed, he kept living his life, with no complaints, to the fullest for the past five years; not letting his illness bring him down. Now that his battle is over, Heaven is his new home. He will be missed dearly by each and every person who knew him.

He is survived by wife, Daisy Hammons Durham of Haynesville, LA; son, Drew Durham of Broomfield, CO; daughter, Devin Durham of Shreveport, LA; brother, Gary Durham and wife, Terri of Shongaloo, LA; sister, Robin Mason of Haynesville, LA; in-laws, Bill and Mary Hammons; special uncle and aunt, Terry and Linda Watts; aunts, Joy Turnage, Mildred Hayden, Frances Presley and lots of friends.

Mr. Durham was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Carolyn Hammons.

Pallbearers will be Gary Clements, Lynn Watts, Rusty Durham, Jim Zey, John Bray and Kenny Killgore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Price, John Leazer, Larry Maddox, Doyle Odom and Fred Ware.

Special thanks to Dr. Dhawan and nurses and Dr. Clint Butler and Staff.

Alice Wheeler Foster

March 23, 1936 - October 12, 2010

Plain Dealing, LA - Funeral services for Alice Wheeler Foster, age 74, will be held Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 1:00 PM in Plain Dealing Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Hardbarger and Rev. Charles Woolley officiating. Interment will follow in Plain Dealing Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Plain Dealing, LA.

The family will receive friends Friday, beginning at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bailey Mortuary, Plain Dealing, LA.

Mrs. Foster was born March 23, 1936 in Monroe, LA to James Otis and Willie Ellison McCurdy Wheeler and passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at her residence in Plain Dealing, LA. She was a faithful member and former secretary of Plain Dealing Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Frances Franco and husband, Julio of Apollo Beach, FL, Paula Foster of Nashville, TN, Micki Foster of Plain Dealing, LA, Judith Foster of Plain Dealing, LA, Jessica Hoke of Nashville, TN; special friend, Woodrow Rodgers; eight grandchildren, Brittany Wilson and husband, Luke, Miguel and Sierra Franco; David and Damian Harris, Audrey Parham, Wesley Grace and Hannah Jordan Foster-Hoke; one great granddaughter, Luna Scarlet Harris; brother, Henry Joe Wheeler; sisters, Bertha Rhymes, Johnette Taylor and Margaret Mosley, as well as a host of other dear family and friends.

Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 30 years, Milton Wesley Foster; her parents; two brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Murray Jones, Damian Harris, David Harris, Miguel Franco, Rodney Penwell and Johnny Mosley.

Visitation will begin Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Bailey Funeral Home.

Mr. O誰eal was born November 3, 1960 in Springhill, LA to Benny Floyd and Glenda Marie Burns O誰eal and passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012 at his residence in Shongaloo, LA. He was a lifelong resident of this area and was a truck driver for Martin and Taylor Trucking.

He is survived by his parents; his daughters, Melissa Danielle O誰eal, LaCousta Boyett and husband, Charlie; granddaughter, Savannah Boyett; unborn grandson, Danny Floyd O誰eal; brother, Timothy Wayne O誰eal and financee?, Arlene Martin; sister, Anita Marie Mullins and husband, Larry; former wife, Tina Wright and a host of nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Mullins, Wayne Compton, Joe Morgan, Lonnie Bishop, Terry Shaver and Wayne Terrell.

Rodney Edward Avera

December 22, 1950 - April 18, 2011

Funeral services for Rodney Edward Avera, age 60, will be held Friday, April 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill, LA with Rev. Marty Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Wilson Cemetery, Lewisville, AR under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will begin Thursday at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bailey Funeral Home.

Mr. Avera was born December 22, 1950 in Shreveport, LA to Walter Edward and Olga Zula Burnett Avera and passed away Monday, April 18, 2011 in Shreveport, LA following a courageous battle with cancer. He was a lifelong resident of Sarepta, LA, a member of New Sarepta Baptist Church and was a machinist/welder/owner of Avera Machine Shop in Sarepta, LA. Mr. Avera worked from 2004-2007 in Beijing, China as a structural superintendent on an US Embassy project and enjoyed sharing his stories of the places he had visited and worked overseas. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, Nascar fan and also served in the US Air Force Reserve. Mr. Avera was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janeice Taylor Avera of Sarepta, LA; son, Chris Avera and wife, April of Springhill, LA, daughter, Cheryl Foster and husband, Kenny of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Taylor, Bobby and Ryan Foster, Dayton Avera, Madelyn Whaley; brother, John R. Avera of Germany; mother-in-law, Joyce Taylor of Springhill, LA and brother-in-law, Kevin Taylor and family of Sarepta, LA.

Mr. Avera was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Chris Williamson, Rodney Ketchum, Jerry Shaw, Larry Wallace, Kenneth O'Glee, Gary Leonard, Gary Warlick, Randy Malone, Keary Johnston and Rodneys little buddy, Josh Leonard. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bodcaw Hunting Club.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Staff of Lifecare Hospital, Dr. Steven Bonoil, Dr. Roscoe Chan, Dr. Robert Hernandez, Sherry Wallace, Kenneth OGlee, Gary Leonard, Gary Warlick and Jerry Conly for their loving care and friendship of our loved one.
