Marshall Sanborn, 91

NORTHBRIDGE -- Marshall S. Sanborn, 91, of Providence Road, died Sunday, Feb. 3, in Northbridge Nursing Home.

His wife, Ruth H. (Swanson) Sanborn, died in 1996. He leaves two daughters, Alice M. Larson of Hopedale and Dorothy A. Capece of Clinton, Conn.; a brother, Homer C. Sanborn of Upton; two sisters, Maude VanNordon of Thetford Center, Vt., and Maribelle Heno of Franklin; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. His first wife, Dorothy (Dillett) Sanborn, died in 1969. Two brothers, W. Chester and Paul D. Sanborn, and two sisters, Ruth Stott and Miriam Lane, also predeceased him. He was born in Thetford, Vt., son of Harley C. and Viola P. (Scribner) Sanborn, and lived many years in Milford and Northbridge. He attended Thetford schools and was a sergeant in the Massachusetts State Guard.

Mr. Sanborn was a shipping clerk, machinist and security guard at Draper Corp., Hopedale, retiring in 1971. He previously worked on the family dairy farm in Thetford. He was also a dairy farmer in the Stow and Sterling areas, and worked at the Milford Daily News. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Milford, since 1949, and was a former longtime member of the Grange in Vermont and Massachusetts, serving several times as master.

The funeral service will be private in Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford. Burial will be at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Stow. There are no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 229 Kent St., Brookline, MA 02146; or to Greater Milford Alzheimer's Alliance, 78 High St., Milford, MA 01757.

Gladys M. Smith, 101

WORCESTER -- Gladys M. (Bouthillette) Smith, 101, of 120 South Flag St., died Saturday, Jan. 26, in the Knollwood Nursing Center, 271 Mountain St. East.

Her husband of 49 years, Wallace A. Smith, died in 1973. She leaves a son, Robert W. Smith of Marlboro; a daughter, Barbara H. Smith of Worcester; a sister, Bertha M. Auclair of Bath, Maine; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Four brothers and four sisters predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Richard C. and Elizabeth L. (Biffin) Bouthillette.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Salem Covenant Church.

A memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 30, Salem Covenant Church, 215 Mountain St. East. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Memorial contributions may be made Salem Covenant Church, 215 Mountain St., East, Worcester, MA 01606.

Carole J. Smith, 65

WORCESTER -- Carole J. (DuPont) Smith, 65, of 1030 Main St., died Monday, Jan. 28, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.

She leaves a son, Neil Smith of Pasadena, Calif.; two daughters, Stephanie DuPont of Venice Beach, Calif., and Sharon Stocker of Austin, Texas; a sister, Dr. Barbara Anne Spence of Worcester; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of Charles R. and Nancy E. (Hunt) DuPont. She graduated from North High School and earned a bachelor's degree in education from University of Maryland.

Ms. Smith was an elementary school teacher in Japan and Los Angeles. She was a member of the Genesis Club and enjoyed music and traveling.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Black Catholics at St. Peter's Church, 929 Main St., Worcester, MA 01610.

Doris K. Stuart, 82

LEICESTER -- Doris K. (Brosky) Stuart, 82, of 4 Andy Drive, in the Cherry Valley section of Leicester, a retired bookkeeper, died Thursday, Jan. 24, at St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

Her husband, Edmund A. Stuart, died in 1997. She leaves two daughters, Jeanne Dufresne of North Fort Myers, Fla., Alene Stuart of Cherry Valley; a brother, John Brosky of Palm Desert, Calif.; a sister, Blanche Greeney of Naples, Fla.; nephews and nieces. A brother, Joseph Brosky, died in 2001. She was born in Worcester, daughter of George and Blanche (Zurek) Brosky and moved to Cherry Valley in 1951. She was a graduate of Leicester High School and from the Holden Hospital School of Nursing where she became a licensed practical nurse.

Mrs. Brosky was a bookkeeper for the former Mechanics Bank in Worcester, retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and past state President of the Polish American Veterans of World War II Auxiliary in Worcester. She was an avid golfer and was a member at Heritage Country Club in Charlton, the Leicester Country Club and the Worcester County Women's Golf Association.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, from the Morrison-Morin Funeral Home, 1131 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 759 Main St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Coes Pond Hospice Residence c/o VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.

Sister Mary Teresa, 89; teacher, administrator

HOLYOKE -- Sister Mary Teresa, formerly known as Mary E. Reardon, 89, of the Mont Marie Health Care Center, formerly of Webster, died Sunday, Feb. 3, in the health care center.

She leaves two nieces, Ann Souris of Merrimack, N.H., and Maureen Horan of Dudley; and a nephew, John Reardon of Orlando, Fla. A brother and a sister predeceased her. She was born in Webster, daughter of Patrick and Bridget (Szymanski) Reardon. She earned an associate's degree from College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee. She became a resident of the health care center in 1998.

She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in Springfield from St. Louis Parish, Webster, and was in her 69th year of religious life. Among her teaching assignments, she had served at St. Joseph in Pittsfield, St. Joseph in Newport, R.I., Holy Trinity in Greenfield, Sacred Heart in Holyoke, St. Thomas in West Springfield and Our Lady of Hope in Springfield, where she was principal and superior. From 1979 to 1997, she was the switchboard operator at Mont Marie.

The funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Mont Marie Chapel, 34 Lower Westfield Road. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Mont Marie, with a prayer service at 2:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph, Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Suite 1, Holyoke, MA 01040-2739. Sampson Family Chapel, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield, is directing arrangements.

Helen M. Yarus, 81

SOUTHAMPTON, N.J. -- Helen M. (Furmanick) Yarus, 81, of Southampton, formerly of Sterling, Mass., died Monday, Feb. 4, in Southampton.

She leaves her husband, Peter F. Yarus; two sons, Phillip Michaud of Florida and Richard A. Yarus of New Windsor, N.Y.; a daughter, Donna G. Yarus of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, George Furmanick of Sterling. She was born in Sterling, and recently moved to Southampton.

The funeral service was held in Lankenau Funeral Home, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deborah Heart & Lung Center, Browns Mills, N.J. 08015.

James J. Zmetra, 32

WEBSTER -- James J. Zmetra, 32, of 15 Cedar Point Road, died Sunday, Feb. 10, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, after a long illness.

He leaves his parents, John J. and Theresa M. (Gonszowska) Zmetra of Webster; two brothers, Richard J. Zmetra of Webster and Kenneth J. Zmetra of Dudley; his paternal grandmother, Rose H. (Mackowiak) Zmetra of Webster; nephews and nieces. He was born in Webster, and lived here all his life. He graduated from Bartlett High School and from Wentworth Institute in Boston.

He enjoyed remote-control cars and motorcycling.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, from the Robert J. Miller Funeral Home and Lake Chapel, 366 School St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the funeral home.

William J. Bastek, 86

WEBSTER -- William J. Bastek, 86, formerly of School Street, a retired house painter, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Worcester, after a long illness.

He leaves a son, Scott Bastek of Webster; a daughter, Willow Davey of Oxford; a sister, Helen Dalbec of Worcester; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Several siblings predeceased him. He was born and raised in Dudley, son of Joseph and Rosalia (Horongedicz) Bastek.

Mr. Bastek was a self-employed house painter and worked throughout Worcester county before retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Louis Church; also Painters Union Local 48, Worcester. He was a sports fan.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, from Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Louis School Endowment Fund, c/o St. Louis Rectory, 15 Lake St., Webster, MA 01570.

WEBSTER -- Helen C. (Stasko) Lobo, 87, of 45 Highland St., died Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Lanessa Nursing Home.

Her husband of 63 years, John S. Lobo, died July 17. She leaves two sons, Paul A. Lobo of Dudley and William A. Lobo of Sembach, Germany; a daughter, Mary Anne Hickey of Webster; a brother, Francis X. Stasko of Webster; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Four brothers and two sisters predeceased her. She was born in Webster, daughter of George and Mary (Palo) Stasko.

Mrs. Lobo was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Louis Parish, the St. Louis League of Catholic Women, and the Catholic Slovak Sokol Society.

The funeral will be held Monday, Feb. 18, from Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to Thomas J. Hickey Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o John P. Michael A. Albano, 86

SHREWSBURY -- Michael A. Albano, 86, of 11 Elizabeth St., died Tuesday, Feb. 26, in St. Francis Home, after an illness.

His wife, Mary L. (Burkhardt) Albano, died in 1959. He leaves three sisters, Marie Antoinette Albano, Carmela P. Manzaro and Madeline B. Herman, all of Worcester; nieces and nephews. A sister, Josephine R. Albano; and three brothers, James R. Albano Sr., Joseph Pecora and Pasquale Pecora, predeceased him. He was born in Utica, N.Y., son of Joseph and Philomena (Gagliastro) Albano, and lived in Worcester before moving to Shrewsbury.

Mr. Albano was a laborer for J.S. Prunier & Sons for many years before retiring.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 28, from Louis Fazio & Sons Funeral Home, 9 Branch St., Worcester, with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church, 23 Mulberry St., Worcester. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the funeral home. Please omit flowers.
