Benjamin Aubertin, 85

WEBSTER -- Benjamin J. Aubertin, 85, of Webster, formerly of Dudley, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Hubbard Regional Hospital.

His wife of 49 years, Catherine E. (Slota) Aubertin, died in 1990. He leaves a son, Anthony F. Aubertin of Dudley. A brother, the Rev. John E. Aubertin of Springfield, died in 1979. He was born in Webster, son of Joseph and Antonia (Baczek) Aubertin, and lived most of his life in the Webster/Dudley area. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific.

Mr. Aubertin worked 27 years at Stevens Linen Association in Dudley, retiring as a foreman. He was previously a loom fixer at Cluett-Peabody Co. in North Grosvenordale, and worked part-time at Key Store, later Mammoth Mart, for many years.

He was a member of St. Andrew Bobola Church in Dudley and Webster-Dudley American Legion Post 184.

The funeral, with military honors, will be held Thursday, Feb. 28, from Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main St., Dudley. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the funeral home.

Margaret E. Decker, 56
Thursday, February 28, 2002

CHARLTON -- Margaret E. (Sadowsky) Decker, 56, of 20 Old Stafford St., formerly of Worcester, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, in The Meadows of Leicester after a long illness.

Her husband of 27 years, Randall L. Decker, died in 1991. She leaves a daughter, Pamela M. Klein of Charlton; a son, Randall C. Decker of Charlton; two sisters, Teresa H. Andersen of Holden and Frances P. Schnare of East Longmeadow; a brother, Joseph P. Sadowsky of East Longmeadow; nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Bullens) Sadowsky, and moved here in 1976. She graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester.

Mrs. Decker was an administrative assistant at Wyman-Gordon Co., Worcester, where she worked five years. She previously worked two years at Chemical Sales Corp., Worcester. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Rochdale section of Leicester, where she was a Sunday school aide and a member of the Bible Committee. She volunteered for the Charlton School District and was a teacher's aide at Charlton Middle School. She also volunteered for the Charlton Little League, the Charlton Soccer League, and was past president of the Charlton Lassie League, where she was head coach of the "Doves" and coached the All Stars team in the 1980s.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, in Kelly Funeral Home, 154 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the funeral home.

Olga Economou, 100

WORCESTER -- Olga (Panagiotou) Economou, 100, formerly of 656 Pleasant St., died Sunday, Feb. 24, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus.

Her husband of 59 years, Constantinos Economou died in 1970. She leaves two sons, Vasilios "Bill" and Polizios "Paul" Economou, both of Worcester; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A brother, Vasilios Panagiotou; and three sisters, Vasiliki Labovites, Alexandra Lianidis and Dimitra Tsouri, predeceased her. She was born in Douviani, northern Epirus, daughter of Matthew and Constantina (Vozoris) Panagiotou, and moved to Worcester in 1947.

Mrs. Economou was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, its Senior Citizens Group, the Ladies Philoptochos Society, and the Epirotic Society.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Feb. 27, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., with a service at 11 a.m. in St. Spyridon Cathedral, 102 Russell St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 300 Barber Ave., Worcester, MA 01606.

Rose D. Marier, 90
Wednesday, February 20, 2002

WEBSTER -- Rose D. (Lubecki) Marier, 90, of 39½ East Main St., died Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Hubbard Regional Hospital.

Her husband, Adelard J. Marier, died in 1970. She leaves a son, Adelard L. Marier of Webster; a brother, Robert Lubecki in Florida; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was born in Webster, daughter of Frank and Julia (Seymour) Lubecki.

Mrs. Marier worked for many years at the former Webster Shoe Company, retiring in 1965. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 22, from Robert J. Miller Funeral Home and Lake Chapel, 366 School St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 18 East Main St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 18 East Main St., Webster, MA 01570.

Irene R. Zackiewicz, 82

WEBSTER -- Irene R. (Cusson) Zackiewicz, 82, of 34 Emerald Ave., a retired nurse, died Thursday, Feb. 21, at home after a long illness.

She leaves her husband of 60 years, Stanley J. Zackiewicz; two daughters, Carol A. Merchant of Webster and Anne M. Zackiewicz of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Roger Cusson of Naples, Fla.; two grandsons; two great-grandsons. A sister, Lucille Lynch, predeceased her. She was born in Webster, daughter of Adelard and Lucy (Terrien) Cusson, and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1939. She graduated from the Worcester Memorial School of Nursing in 1942 and received a bachelor's degree from Anna Maria College in Paxton in 1973. After retiring, she wintered in Daytona Beach, Fla.

She was a registered nurse in maternity wards of area hospitals. She was a past director of nurses at Webster Nursing Home, and oversaw construction and opening of Webster Manor. She also trained nurse's aides in the area throughout her 60-year career.

Mrs. Zackiewicz was a member of St. Joseph Basilica and its Sacred Heart Society. She was a member and past vice president of its Polish Women's Club, and was a member and past president of the Webster-Dudley Polish-American Veterans. She was a member of the Worcester Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association and the Federation of Nursing Home Administrators.

In Daytona Beach, played shuffleboard. She enjoyed traveling and was an accomplished pianist.

The funeral will be held Monday, Feb. 25, from Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Felician Sisters, Our Lady of the Angels Convent, 1333 Enfield St., Enfield, CT 06082-4929.

Alma Ziak, 82

DUDLEY -- Alma (Daniels) Ziak, 82, of 21 Aldea Ave., died Friday, March 1, in Hubbard Regional Hospital, Webster, after an illness.

Her husband, Stephen Ziak, died in 1973. She leaves a brother, Rene Daniels of Webster; nieces and nephews. A son, Gary Ziak, died in 1960. Four brothers, Benjamin, Eben, Clarence, and Wilfred Daniels; and five sisters, Marie Shepard, Ida Cronan, Dora Cloutier, Blanche Daniels and Claire Kenyon, predeceased her. She was born in Webster, daughter of Herman and Ann Jane (Westwell) Daniels. She lived in East Douglas before moving to Dudley 25 years ago.

Mrs. Ziak was a member of the Dudley Council on Aging, and often arranged bus trips. She worked at the Dudley election polls for the past 15 years. She volunteered at St. Anthony's bingo, and enjoyed cribbage and jigsaw puzzles.

The funeral will be held Monday, March 4, from Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Webster. A calling hour will be 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Monday, March 4, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to St. Anne's School Tuition Fund, 7 Day St., Webster, MA 01570.

Richard Bysiewicz, 50

WEBSTER -- Richard Bysiewicz, 50, of 1 Henry St., a Vietnam War veteran, died Saturday, March 2, in Hubbard Regional Hospital, after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 14 years, Laurie S. (Allen) Bysiewicz; two daughters, Debbie Nichols of Leominster and Teresa L. McKeown of Aurora, Colo.; a son, Richard Bysiewicz Jr. of Aurora, Colo.; his parents, Chester and Zofia (Wonicka) Bysiewicz of Dudley; a brother, Dennis Bysiewicz of Medford; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Webster, and lived in Webster, Dudley, and for eight years in Colorado Springs, before returning to this area in 1979. He attended Bartlett High School. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Bysiewicz was an auto parts salesman in Webster Auto Parts, Bousquet's Auto Parts in Dudley and Putnam, and C&T Auto Parts in Oxford. He enjoyed landscaping and gardening.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, in Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St. After cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 4, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to a charity.

Barbara A. Barrette, 69

OXFORD -- Barbara A. (Gaboury) Barrette, 69, of Quobaug Avenue, died Monday, March 4, in Hubbard Regional Hospital, Webster, after an illness. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., is directing funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.

Ann L. Ford, 60
Tuesday, March 19, 2002

JUPITER, Fla. -- Ann L. (Starkus) Ford, 60, of Jupiter, formerly of Webster, Mass., a registered nurse, died Saturday, March 16, at home.

She leaves a daughter, Katherine Saad of Boynton Beach; a son, Anthony Saad of Oxford, Mass.; her mother, Laura Jenkner of North Oxford; three brothers, Albert Starkus of Durant, Okla., Peter Starkus of Charlton, Mass., and David Starkus of Woburn, Mass.; and a grandson. She was born in Worcester, Mass., and lived in Webster before moving to Jupiter more than 20 years ago.

Ms. Ford was a registered nurse at Good Samaritan Medical Center, West Palm Beach, and was instrumental in opening the Newbern Suites in 1997. In 2001, she was voted "Nurse of the Year" by her peers.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, in St. Peter's Church. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, in Aycock Funeral Home, 1112 Military Trail. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407.

Phanessa E. Fisher, 22

Archie W. Chausse, 73

WEBSTER -- Archie W. Chausse, 73, of Webster, died Wednesday, March 20, in the Olympus Specialty Hospital of Metrowest Medical Center in Natick, after a long illness.

He leaves four sons, Arthur Chausse of Dudley, Bernard Chausse of Killingly, Conn., Donald Chausse of Dudley and Raymond Chausse of Webster; two daughters, Loreen E. Brodeur of Dudley and Sharon Dobbs of Putnam; three brothers, Roger and Donald Chausse, both of Dudley, and Norman Chausse of Webster; two sisters, Corine Haan of Las Vegas and Murial Hart of Haverhill; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was born in Webster, son of George and Marie (Latour) Chausse.

Mr. Chausse managed the Colonial Restaurant in the Quinebaug section of Thompson, for many years before retiring. Before that, he worked for the Dudley Highway Department.

A Mass will be held at noon Monday, March 25, in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, East Main Street. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Central Mass., 35 Harvard St., Worcester, MA 01609. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St., is directing arrangements.

Paul E. Phaneuf, 66

PUTNAM -- Paul E. Phaneuf, 66, of Woodstock Avenue, died Wednesday, March 20, at home.

His wife, Marie T. (Landry) Phaneuf, died in 1994. He leaves three daughters, Darlene Miller of Putnam, Pamela Daigle of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Kristen Hamel of Sterling; a sister, Jeanne Ligouri of Westerly, R.I.; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was born in Putnam, son of Euclid and Estelle (Vegiard) Phaneuf. He graduated from Putnam High School, where he was captain and co-captain of the basketball, baseball and football teams. He attended Springfield College, and also served in the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Mr. Phaneuf was a wholesale purchaser for 33 years for Ferara & Sons Corporation in Canton, before retiring. He enjoyed playing golf, pool, darts, and building doll houses.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 25, in Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Day Kimball Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
