Marilyn L. Jones, 68

Wrentham ­ Marilyn L. Jones, 68, who worked for Lower Cape Human Services and leaves a daughter in Marstons Mills, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at home.

She was the wife of the late Charles R. Jones Sr.

Born and raised in Grafton, she graduated from Grafton High School and attended the Foxboro School of Nursing, beginning a long career as a caregiver. She worked as a nurse for Medfield State Hospital. After further schooling she began working for Lower Cape Human Services and Westboro State Hospital. In 1991, she retired after 26 years of service.

She enjoyed traveling with friends, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Charles R. Jones Jr. of Wrentham; four daughters, Deborah L. Jones of Wrentham, Wendy J. Johnson of Norfolk, Cheryl A. Peckham of Marstons Mills and Kimberly B. Jones of Waterboro, Maine; a special aunt, Lurline Plaintof of Grafton; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral was in Trinity Episcopal Church, Wrentham.

Memorial donations may be made to Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice, 3 Edgewater Drive, Norwood, Mass. 02062.

Helena M. King, 69

North Falmouth ­ Helena M. (Doyle) King, 69, formerly of Brockton, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Hospice House in Barnstable.

She was the wife of the late Dr. Albert L. King.

Born in Boston, Mrs. King grew up in Milton and was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy.

She lived in Brockton for 20 years before moving to Cape Cod in 1971. Mrs. King had been a summer resident of the Cape for many years.

Mrs. King worked with her husband in his optometry and eye wear business in Brockton.

She was a member of the Sandwich Yacht Club and enjoyed knitting and sewing.

Mrs. King is survived by two sons, Robert L. King of Elmwood and Brian A. King of Centerville; two daughters, Donna L. Gildersleeve and Heidi M. Blandina, both of Buzzards Bay; a brother, William Doyle of Milton; a sister, Kathleen of Lebanon, N.H.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, North Falmouth, with burial following in St. James Cemetery in Whitman.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, Mass. 02675.

Mary C. Lannon, 80

Medfield ­ Mary C. (Nissen) Lannon, 80, of Medfield, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at the Olympus Specialty Hospital in Natick.

Born in Garden City, Kansas, she was a 1937 graduate of Roslindale High School.

Formerly of Dedham, she worked for over 25 years as an insurance agent for J.G. McQuarrie Insurance Agency and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Medfield.

She was the wife of Wilbert R. Lannon for 55 years, and the mother of Elizabeth D. "Libby" Lannon of Cotuit and the late Ferne C. Lannon.

A funeral service was held at the First Baptist Church, Medfield. Burial was as Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield.

Sally Logan, 73

Bellingham, Wash. ­ Sally (Dean) Logan, 73, a former Cape resident, died Oct. 11, 1999, at her home after a long illness with breast cancer.

She was the wife of Eldon H. Logan of Almena, Wis.

Born in Hyannis, she was a 1944 graduate of Barnstable High School and attended Cape Cod Community College. She lived in Dennisport from 1926 to 1942; Hyannis from 1942 to 1944 and 1946 to 1993; Maine and Boston from 1944 to 1946; and Bellingham from 1993 to 1999.

She was a 12th generation direct descendant of four Mayflower passengers who landed in Plymouth, Mass., in 1620.

For many summers, she welcomed children into her home from the "Fresh Air Fund," out of New York City. She took them to the beach and to all the other fun Cape Cod events such as the Fourth of July parade and the Barnstable County Fair. She also helped many people in need over the years, whether it was a ride to the store or to the doctor or a couple of dollars to hold them over until pay day.

As a young woman, Mrs. Logan worked as a telephone operator for a short time. For more than 20 years, she worked with her parents in their record, television and radio store, "Louis E. Dean's," on Main Street in Hyannis, where she met many famous people. When Cape Cod Cablevision first arrived in Hyannis, she worked for them for a few years, along with her husband.

Mrs. Logan also owned her own ceramic studio in Hyannis for many years, where she taught classes and poured her own molds. A few of her students went on to hold jobs in the same field or own their own businesses after learning her techniques. Her next venture in her colorful career was the transportation business, where she drove school buses, limousines, vans and taxis. She enjoyed transporting some of the stars who were performing at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. She also helped create City Cab Inc., Yellow Cab of Whatcom/Skagit in Bellingham with her daughter and son-in-law, where she was a dispatcher and a driver. She enjoyed this job immensely. She never wanted to retire because she was having so much fun. But illness forced her to leave this position in June, 1998.

For a few years, she was a member of the Hyannis Junior Women's Club, the Cape Cod Skating Club, which she joined the first year it was formed, and various ceramic organizations.

Mrs. Logan took many courses over the years, including rug hooking and braiding, acrylic painting, needlepoint and crewel, woodworking, ceramics, china painting, pottery and decoupage. She loved sewing, making many of her children's clothes when they were young, including many ballet and skating costumes. She also enjoyed making bread and watching animal shows on TV.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, James A. Logan of Hyannis; four daughters, Sandra Logan Medeiros of South Attleboro, Mass., Deborah Logan and Susan Logan, both of Bellingham, and Jane Logan of Mashpee; two sisters, Priscilla Dean of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Betty Dean Holmes of Swampscott, Mass.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five nieces and three nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held on the Cape in the summer of 2000.

John B. O'Donnell, 85

Osterville ­ John Brian O'Donnell, 85, a longtime Osterville resident, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at his home.

He was the husband of the late Genevieve (Farrell) O'Donnell.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Mr. O'Donnell was raised and educated in Brooklyn, N.Y. After his schooling, he joined the Army Air Corps and served overseas prior to and during World War II, serving in the China, Burma, India Theater of Operations as a B-29 Flight Engineer and a gunner. He was also involved in the Berlin Airlift and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three oak clusters.

Mr. O'Donnell retired from the Air Force in 1967 and moved to Osterville. He was a communicant and Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Osterville and awarded the Marion Medal by the Fall River Archdiocese.

An avid boater, he was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was also a member of the Cape Cod Basha of China, Burma, India Veteran Association.

Surviving are three sons, Brian J. O'Donnell of West Barnstable, Martin W. O'Donnell of Marstons Mills and William P. O'Donnell of Atlanta, Ga.; three daughters, Lt. Cmdr. Katherine G. O'Donnell of Beaufort, S.C., Marie C. Gurney of Osterville and Gertrude M. O'Donnell of Marstons Mills; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Osterville. Burial followed in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Kathleen E. Allen, 75

Hyannis - Kathleen Elizabeth Allen, 75, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at the Cape Winds Rest Home in Hyannis.

Born and raised in Detroit, she moved to this area 16 years ago. Previously to Cape Winds Rest Home, she lived at Faucetts Pond, also in Hyannis.

She enjoyed walking the beaches of Cape Cod and was very creative with crafts.

Surviving are seven daughters, Dianna Hastings, Theresa Ricketts, Gail Hufford, Robynn Clark, Sherri Balluff and Darlene Balluff, all of Oregon, and Christine Little of Illinois; a son, Robert Balluff of Hyannis; and 22 grandchildren.

She was the mother of the late Tommy Allen.

A memorial service was held Nov. 29 at the Cape Winds Rest Home in Hyannis.

Charles F. Brown, 98

West Yarmouth - Charles Franklin Brown, 98, a former teacher, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Marjorie (Borden) Brown, who died in 1982.

Born and raised in Gardner, Mr. Brown attended Gardner public schools. He graduated from Fitchburg State Teachers College in 1924 and taught in Gardner for two years, Fall River for 33 years and in Barnstable for seven years.

He moved to the Cape in 1959, where he was a resident of West Yarmouth and formerly of East Dennis.

Mr. Brown was a member of the Howard Lodge AF & AM of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts Masonic Consistory, Mid-Cape Men's Club, Pilgrim Congregational Church of Harwich Port, Dennis Forum and Orleans Coffee Club.

A member of the Brewster Men's Club and Universal Club of Orleans, he was also treasurer of the Quivet Cemetery Association, East Dennis.

Surviving are a son, Donald B. Brown of Centerville; a sister, Lena Brown of Bedford; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held in Quivet Cemetery, East Dennis.

John J. Campbell, 77

Cambridge - John J. Campbell, 77, who leaves family on the Cape, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999.

He was the husband of Catherine (Cook) Campbell.

Born in Cambridge, he attended Longfellow Grammar School and Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. He was a 1945 graduate of Boston College and also graduated from Boston University Law School in 1949.

Mr. Campbell served in the Army during World War II. After the war, he joined the Judge Advocate Department of the United States Air Force Reserves, rising to the rank of major. While in the Reserves, Mr. Campbell went on to serve his country in active duty during the Bay of Pigs crisis. In 1959, he served as military aid to Massachusetts Governor Foster Furcolo.

Prior to opening his Cambridge law office 10 years ago, Mr. Campbell's law practice was at Center Plaza in Boston. During his many years practicing law, he was very active in several professional organizations and became a member of the Cambridge Belmont Arlington Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association.

He was recently honored by the Boston Bar Association in celebration of his 50th year as a member.

Mr. Campbell was introduced to politics in 1946 when he was a precinct captain for Jack Kennedy in his first campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives. He was then elected to the Cambridge School Committee in 1953 and in 1954 he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives, where he served his district of Cambridge for eight years. After leaving political office in 1962, he continued his political work by serving as a lobbyist for Blue Cross Blue Shield, Massachusetts Wine and Spirit Wholesalers and other companies.

In 1966, Mr. Campbell branched into banking as a co-founder of the Charles Bank Trust Co. in Cambridge, serving as its president and chairman of the board during his years with the bank.

Mr. Campbell was honored in 1997 by the Cambridge City Council with the dedication of Representative John J. Campbell Square. The square, which is located at the intersection of Harvard and Quincy streets in Cambridge, is a short distance from St. Paul Church.

A lifelong parishioner of St. Paul Church, he was very devoted to the parish community and served as chairman of the finance committee for the restoration of the church, which was originally built in 1924.

Mr. Campbell also served on the Board of Directors at Franciscan Children's Hospital in Brighton and at Mother Caroline Academy in Roxbury. He was a member of the Cambridge Knights of Columbus, attaining the title of past grand knight and served as secretary and vice commodore at the Charles River Yacht Club. He was also an active member of the Boston College Alumni Association and for many years a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Corp.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, John of Belmont; a stepson, Thomas Cook of Cummaquid; a stepdaughter Kathleen Cook McCue of Boston; a sister, Mary Sheehan of Sandwich; and three stepgrandchildren.

Services were held in Cambridge.

Vincent D. Farrand

Centerville - Vincent D. Farrand, a resident of Centerville, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Audrey (Johnson) Farrand.

Mr. Farrand was a World War II Army veteran and a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Diana Farrandino of Brookline; a sister, Margaret Lattoraca; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was also the father of the late Charlene and Vincent.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Lower Church, Roslindale. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury.
