William 'Jiggs' Connors, 90
South Yarmouth William E. "Jiggs" Connors, 90, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in South Yarmouth, where he had lived for the past four years.
He was the husband of the late Mary (O'Connell) Connors.
Born in Brockton, Mr. Connors lived in Brockton until four years ago, when he moved to South Yarmouth. He was a graduate of Brockton High School.
During World War II, he served with the Navy Seabees.
Following his discharge, Mr. Connors worked for the Corcoran Plumbing Supply Co. in Brockton. He later worked for TECO Plumbing Supply Co. in Brockton.
He was a communicant of St. Colman Church and a member of the Holy Name Society.
His hobby was woodworking and furniture refinishing.
Surviving are two sons, William E. Connors, Jr. of South Yarmouth and Timothy M. Connors of Hyannis; a granddaughter; a grandson; and a niece and several nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Colman Church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Dan J. Harrington, 81
Osterville Dan J. Harrington, 81, an Osterville resident, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at his home after a long illness.
He was the husband of Marion (Buxton) Harrington.
Born in Fall River, Mr. Harrington moved to the Cape from Reading in 1966. After high school, he was a student at Bradford-Durfee Textile Institute in Fall River.
Mr. Harrington worked for H.P. Hood & Sons for 34 years and managed several Hood branches, including Falmouth and Hyannis.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Falmouth and later the Hyannis Rotary Club.
An avid model train collector, Mr. Harrington was a member of the Mystic Valley Railway Society. He was also a charter member of the Checkmates of Reading and the former Ocean Waves of Cape Cod.
He was a lifetime member of the Good Samaritan Lodge of Reading.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Peter B. Harrington of Sterling, Va.; a daughter, Mary-Jane Wood of Lafayette, Calif.; a brother, James Harrington of Fall River; and four grandchildren.
Burial will be in Danvers at a later date.

Laura M. Harvey, 91
Hyannis Laura M. Harvey, 91, a Cape resident since 1989, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care CommunityManor.
She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Harvey and Clayton A. Burge.
Born in Boston, Mrs. Harvey was educated in Boston and Stoneham schools. She later graduated from Allen Dale Studios Art School in Boston certified in commercial art.
She was a resident of Hyannis since 1989, moving there from San Marcos, Calif.
While in Hyannis, she worked for Bruce Jerald in the Barnstable County treasurer's office.
She was a past president of the San Marcos Stamp Club and a standing member of the Massachusetts State and County Retirement Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Marlowe A. Santos of Ramona, Calif.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Hyannis.
Alfred J. 'Freddie' Houle, 82
Hyannis Alfred J. "Freddie" Houle, 82, a retired Hyannis mason who worked for many local builders, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital following a long illness.
He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Crowell) Houle who died in 1978.
Mr. Houle was born in New Bedford and was raised and educated there. He moved to Hyannis at the age of 14. Mr. Houle and wife were married in 1939.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis and the Hyannis Lodge of Elks.
Mr. Houle is survived by three sons, Alfred Houle and James Houle, both of West Yarmouth, and Michael Houle of St. Augustine, Fla., a daughter, Sally Houle-Cordeiro of South Yarmouth; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery
in Cotuit.

Marilyn A. Hunt, 72
Hyannis Marilyn A. (Bowes) Hunt, 72, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
Born in Worcester, she was a resident of Cape Cod for 30 years, living in Centerville and Hyannis.
For many years, she worked as a cashier at Kmart, retiring in 1998.
She is survived by two daughters, Laura J. Witt of Hyannis and Alice E. Casavant of Wrentham; a sister, Lorraine Carroll of Walpole; and three grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church, Centerville. Burial was at Beechwood Cemetery
Centerville.

Erving E. Jones, 84
Marsons Mills Erving Elwood Jones, 84, died at the Center for Optimum Care in Mashpee Friday, Jan. 7, 2000.
He was a lifelong resident of Marstons Mills.
Mr. Jones worked as a printer all his life in Boston and on Cape Cod.
He leaves a daughter, Dorothy A. Fahey of Milton; one brother, Philip Jones of Summit, N.J.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the Marstons Mills Cemetery.
Robert N. Kent, 76
St. Petersburg, Florida Robert Newton Kent, 76, a former resident of Osterville who leaves family on Cape, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg after a brief illness.
Born in Bridgeport, Conn., Mr. Kent was raised in Whitman, Mass., and graduated from Whitman High School. He moved to Osterville in 1969 and then lived in Portland, Maine, before retiring to Florida.
A World War II Marine Corps veteran, he served as a master sergeant aboard the USS Lexington.
Surviving are three sons, Jeffrey Kent of Kingston, Mass., Gregory Kent of Mashpee and John D. Kent of Sagamore Beach; five daughters, Kathleen Forrand of Kingston, Mass., Rosemary Waite of Cataumet, Nancy Kelly of Osterville, Nora Behlman of Marstons Mills and Elizabeth McIntyre of Cotuit; his former wife, Elizabeth A. (Comerford) Kent of Hyannis; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private military service will be held at a later date.
Helen M. McCarthy, 84
Cotuit Helen M. McCarthy, 84, a resident of Cotuit and a longtime resident of Salem, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at the Prescott House Nursing Home in North Andover.
Born in Danvers, she graduated from Salem High School in Salem. She was employed for 45 years with the New England Telephone Co. prior to retiring from the Hyannis office.
A member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, she also served as secretary and treasurer of the American Association of Retired Persons in Hyannis.
She enjoyed traveling and reading.
Surviving are two brothers, John R. McCarthy of Groveland and Eugene F. McCarthy of Manchester, N.H.; and a niece and two nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
Charles J. Munroe, 85
Hyannis Charles J. Munroe, 85, a retired Defense Logistics Agency employee, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community-Pavilion after a long illness.
He was the husband of Mary (Moss) Munroe for 55 years.
Born in Nashua, N.H., he was raised and educated in Leominster.
Mr. Munroe worked for many years in the Boston Naval Yard and the Watertown Arsenal. He was also employed by the Defense Logistics Agency in Boston for 21 years. During this time, he received many awards for his honorable service. In 1982, upon his retirement, he was given a Distinguished Career Award.
Mr. Munroe lived in Cambridge for many years before moving to Hyannis 22 years ago.
An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed cooking and loved to eat.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Sharp-D'Esopo of Old Lyme, Conn.; two brothers, Norman Munroe of Holbrook and Franklin Munroe of Boston; a sister, Hessie Waterhouse of Randolph; a granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

John P. Olsen Jr., 66
West Tisbury John P. Olsen Jr., 66, a former construction company owner, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Martha's Vineyard Hospital.
He was the husband of F. Deborah (Steere) Olsen since 1957.
Raised and educated in Tisbury, Mr. Olsen served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany, where he was in charge of repair services.
He was the owner of Olsen Brothers Construction from 1962 until his retirement in 1994.
Mr. Olsen was an active member of the Agricultural Society, Redman Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, John P. Olsen III and Zebulon T. Olsen, both of Centerville; a sister, Esther Freitas of Tisbury; a brother, Richard T. Olsen of West Tisbury; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tisbury, with full military honors by the Veterans of Martha's Vineyard.
