Robert D. 'Painless' Parker, 75

Blue Hill, Maine ­ Robert D. "Painless" Parker, 75, an oral surgeon on the Cape, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville.

Born in Strong, he was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.

An oral surgeon, he had an office in Hyannis for many years and was also one of the original chiefs of surgery at Falmouth Hospital.

He was an avid golfer and a former member of the Hyannisport and Wianno golf clubs.

Surviving are three sons, Robert D. Parker of West Yarmouth, Scott H. Parker of Harwich and Christopher J. Parker of Ipswich; a daughter, Deborah L. Parker of West Yarmouth; three grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; a cousin; and former wife, Lee (Shields) Leonard of Centerville.

A graveside service was held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Mary E. Pasteris, 76

Sagamore ­ Mary Edith Pasteris, 76, a longtime resident of Sagamore, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

She was the wife of Columbus J. Pasteris for 45 years.

Born in Sandwich, Mrs. Pasteris was educated in Sandwich Public Schools and graduated from Sandwich High School. She worked as a cook at the Upper Cape Regional Vocational Technical School in Bourne for 15 years until retiring in 1985.

Mrs. Pasteris lived in Sagamore for 45 years and wintered in Bradenton, Fla. She was a member of the Corpus Christi Parish.

An accomplished knitter, she enjoyed bingo and yard sales.

Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Jeanne Pasteris of Hyannis and Peggy Pasteris of Sagamore; a sister, Marjorie Hoey of Sandwich; several nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral was held at St. Theresa's Church, Sagamore. Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Nancy J. Patry-Johnson, 43

Belchertown ­ Nancy Jane (Carguilo) Patry-Johnson, 43, who leaves family on the Cape, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, from breast cancer.

She was the wife of Steven Leroy Johnson.

Born in Yonkers, N.Y., she graduated from St. Clare Academy, Hastings on the Hudson, N.Y. She also received a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a master's degree in physical therapy from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, R.I.

She spent most of her life helping others attain better health. She was co-director of aerobics at Willy's Gym in Orleans and was involved with many other aerobic programs on the Cape for more than 20 years.

A certified Kripalu yoga instructor, she taught yoga on the Cape and in Western Massachusetts, developing a yoga program for cancer survivors in conjunction with the Baystate Medical Center's Rays of Hope program. This program has helped close to 200 survivors to date.

In her professional life, she worked as a physical therapist, first in hospital settings on the North Shore and later in western Massachusetts. In 1998, she began her own physical therapy practice in Belchertown, creating Living Well Integrative Therapies. She combined traditional physical therapy with many alternative sources of healing, including St. John's Neuromuscular Massage Therapy, Reiki and Yoga.

Her other interests included rock climbing, hiking and bird watching. Most of all, she loved the beaches on Cape Cod.

A resident of western Massachusetts for the last three and a half years, she maintained a strong connection to the Cape Cod community as well as with her friends on the Cape.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her parents, Joseph Matthew and Frances Carguilo of Dennis; a brother, Dominic Carguilo of Ringe, N.H.; a sister, Mary Ellen Leonard of Cotuit; and six nieces and 11 nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Chatham Unitarian Universalist Meeting House.

Yvette M. Pires, 30

Eastham ­ Yvette M. Pires, 30, formerly of Falmouth, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at her home.

She is survived by her mother: Michele (Gonsalves) Pires of Mashpee; her father, Robert Pires of East Falmouth; two sons, Willy Bridges of Hyannis and Chantz Catching of Eastham; three brothers: Earl Cash III of Dennis, Albert Pires of Vermont and Justin Pires of East Falmouth; two sisters, Alexandra and Ashlee Pires, both of East Falmouth; her grandmothers, Lillian Pires of East Falmouth and Rose Gonsalves of Mashpee; her fiance, Stuart Catching of Eastham; and several aunts and uncles.

Burial was private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Cod Patient Care Fund, Cape Cod Artificial Kidney Center, 241 Willow St., Yarmouthport, MA 02673.

Delores Plavsic, 65

Hyannis ­ Delores (Macedo) Plavsic, 65, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at her home, after a long illness.

She was the wife of James Plavsic, to whom she was married for 42 years.

Born and raised in Fall River, she graduated from Durfee High School. She married 90 days after her first meeting with Mr. Plavsic, they settled in Hyannis soon after marriage.

An avid crafts person, she also crocheted and did ceramics. She taught CCD at St. Francis Xavier School.

She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.

Beside her husband, she is survived by a son, James Plavsic of South Carolina; a daughter, Kristen Halliday of West Barnstable; two brothers, Donald Macedo and David Macedo both of Hyannis; a sister, Veronica Menezes of R.I.; a grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis. Burial followed at Mosswood Cemetery.

Richard C. Seiffert, 56

Hyannis ­ Richard C. Seiffert, 56, a Hyannis resident, died of a heart attack Nov. 8, 1999, at Cape Cod Hospital.

Born and raised in South Hadley, Mr. Seiffert was a resident of Hyannis for 17 years. He worked for ABC Refrigeration in West Yarmouth.

Mr. Seiffert was a sergeant of arms for the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. He also enjoyed sailing.

He is survived by his loved one of 22 years, Debbie LeHouillier of Hyannis; two sons, Eric Seiffert of East Springfield and Richard Seiffert of Dunedin, Fla.; a sister, JoAnn Lenke of Philadelphia; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at the Vietnam Veterans Association, Hyannis.

Fred B. 'Ted' Simpson, 87

Centerville ­ Fred B. "Ted" Simpson, 87, a 38-year employee with General Electric and a retiree for 23 years on Cape Cod, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at the Eagle Pond Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dennis.

He was the husband of Angie (Curtis) Simpson.

Mr. Simpson was born in Holliston and lived there and later in Framingham where he graduated from the former Framingham High School. For several years, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Western Massachusetts.

In 1936, he began his long career with General Electric Co. at the company's plant in Ashland. In 1972, he married and settled in Natick where he had lived for many years. He retired from G.E. in 1974 as foreman of the shipping department. He worked for three more years with the former Bay Bank in Framingham.

In 1977, he moved to Centerville after vacationing on Cape Cod for many years.

Mr. Simpson was a member of the Quarter Century Club at G.E. and a long-time member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Natick. He was an avid gardener and loved to work around his yard when weather permitted.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Leonard P. Simpson of Braintree; a daughter MaryLee Hensley of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, Francis Simpson of Framingham, five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Centerville. Burial followed at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Natick.

Wallace 'Wally' Strange, 92

Hyannis ­ Wallace "Wally" Strange, 92, a resident of Hyannis since 1968, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2000, at the Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville.

He was the husband of Lillian (Queen) Strange for 48 years.

Born in Smithfield, Va., Mr. Strange received his formal education in Washington , D.C. While working at the Bureau of Engraving, he joined the Blue Birds dance band where he played guitar and sang.

Mr. Strange was head usher at All Souls Unitarian Universal Church in Washington , D.C. He was also a 32 degree mason, shriner and official photographer of his lodge.

He was the official photographer for the Sports Car Club of America and worked at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Md.

After moving to Hyannis in 1968, he was a photographic instructor at Otis Air Force Base until retiring in 1970. He then drove the school bus for North Side and also worked for Barnstable Bus Co. as a driver and instructor.

A charter member of the Council of Doers, he loved to fish, play golf and travel.

He spent many winters in Florida and traveled extensively through Europe and the Caribbean.

A celebration of his life was held at the Unitarian Church of Barnstable. Burial was private.

Patricia M. Tobin, 58

Medfield ­ Patricia M. Tobin, 58, a former Cape resident, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston.

Born in Norwich, Conn., she lived in Hyannis and West Yarmouth before moving to Medfield. She was a 1958 graduate of Barnstable High School and also graduated in 1962 from Regis College in Weston.

She was a director of information systems at Boston College until her retirement.

Surviving are a sister, Barbara Flinn of Hyannis; a niece; two nephews; and her dear friend Margaret Mozier of Medfield, with whom she lived.

Services were held in Needham.

Memorial donations may be made to Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass. 02167; or to the charity of one's choice.

Angela M. Tosti, 85

Framingham ­ Angela M. (DiBuono) Tosti, 85, who leaves family on the Cape, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at the Metrowest Medical Center.

Born in Marlboro, she was a longtime resident of Framingham and worked at the Dennison Manufacturing Co. in Framingham for 35 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Carol A. Daniels of Cotuit; a son, James C. Tosti of Naples, Fla.; three brothers, James DiBuono of Marlboro, Anthony DiBuono of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Michael DiBuono of Seminole, Fla.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held in St. George Church, Framingham. Burial was private.
