Jeanne Hughes, 66

Centerville-Jeanne Corner Hughes, 66, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000 at her Centerville home due to complications related to breast cancer.

She was the wife of Derek W. Hughes for 43 years.

Born in Bryn Mawr, Pa., she attended Germantown Friends Select Academy and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania . She later pursued a master's degree at Temple University. After an early career in television, she became a homemaker, living in Bucks County, Pa., Madrid, Spain and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Mrs. Hughes moved to Greenwich, Conn., in 1983. She became an active community volunteer at the Greenwich YWCA, where she served as a counselor for the Domestic Abuse Service and as a coordinator for the Gertrude White Art Gallery. From 1993 to 1999, she acted as a client advocate for the Domestic Abuse Service.

She was a member of the Sophisticated Ladies dance group based, most recently, at the Roxbury Dance Studio. She was very fond of her dog, Isaac.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Allison Hughes Coleman of Greenwich; two sons, Sherwood S. Hughes of Boston and A. Alexander Hughes of Miami; and two granddaughters.

A memorial service was held at Christ Church in Greenwich, Conn.

Eileen E. Long, 64

Waltham-Eileen E. (Phillips) Long, 64, a resident of Waltham and Osterville, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

She was the wife of Brian J. Long.

Born in Brighton, Mrs. Long lived in Watertown for many years before moving to Waltham. She also maintained a home in Osterville for many years.

Mrs. Long was a 1957 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and began her teaching career in Waltham the same year. She spent the last 19 years at Northeast Elementary School in Waltham.

A dedicated educator, she belonged to the Waltham Educators Association, where she also served as union representative, and the Massachusetts Teachers Association.

Surviving besides her husband are three children, Brian J. Long Jr. of Osterville, Brenna J. Long of Centerville and Heather J. Gray of Alpharetta, Ga.; three sisters, Kathleen B. Phillips of Watertown, and Mary C. Smith and Christine A. Wheeler, both of Waltham; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late Elizabeth P. Long.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Osterville.

G. William Parshall, 71

Sudbury-G. William Parshall, 71, a longtime summer resident of Osterville, died Wednesday at Emerson Hospital in Concord after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Anne (Perkins) Parshall and of Mary Lou (Larpenteur) Parshall, who died in 1978.

Born in Drexel Hill, Pa., Mr. Parshall was educated at Pennsylvania Military College, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He later studied at Georgia Tech and was awarded his master's degree in business administration from Babson College.

Mr. Parshall was a former resident of Pennsylvania , where he had been associated with E.T. DuPont and the Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton Co. He later worked for Western Electric, both in New Jersey and Georgia. From 1963 until 1990, he worked for the Polaroid Co. in Cambridge, and from 1995 until 1990, with TIC Business Consultants in Chelsea. He most recently served as president of ABP Design Inc., a company located in Sudbury.

A former Army officer, Mr. Parshall was a founder of the Sudbury Swim and Tennis Club. He also formerly served on the board of directors at Sir Associates in Westford as well as the Box Company of Cambridge.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, B. Lynne Parshall Bromley of Carlsbad, Calif.; a son, Richard W. Parshall of Washington , N.J.; two stepdaughters, Susan A. Gleeson of Nashua, N.H., and Glynnis G. Breen of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Jean Dormer of Boca Raton, Fla., and Barbara Parshall of Boston; two brothers, Richard Parshall of Claremont, N.H., and Walter Parshall of Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at the Sudbury United Methodist Church, 251 Old Sudbury Road, Sudbury. Burial was private.

John J. Reardon, 79

West Palm Beach-John Joseph Reardon, 79, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000 at JFK Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Virginia (Moberg) Reardon.

Born and raised in Quincy, he attended Providence Bible Institute. He served in World War II and the Korean War as a first lieutenant, infantry unit commander. He earned the American Campaign Medal, Army Occupational Medal-Germany, Victory World War II Medal, Korean Service Medal, Company Infantry Badge, medals for service in Europe and Africa and three overseas bars.

He is survived by four sons, John Reardon of Northboro, James Reardon of Yarmouthport, Jay Reardon of Manomet and Jerry Reardon of Centerville; two daughters, Judy Heath of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Janis Gold of Barnstable; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Friday in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

A memorial service was held Saturday at the First Baptist Church of West Harwich and Dennisport, West Harwich.

William J. 'Red' Reidy, 69

Mashpee-William J. "Red" Reidy, 69, a retired teacher and coach, died of cancer Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000 at his home.

He was the husband of Joan (Danilowicz) Reidy for 45 years.

Born in Worcester, Mr. Reidy was a 1949 graduate of St. John's Prep in Danvers and also graduated from Providence College in 1953.

He lived in Hallandale, Fla., for the past 35 years before moving permanently to Mashpee in April 1999, where he had been a seasonal resident for the past 15 years.

Mr. Reidy was a teacher and coach for 30 years, working the majority of that time at Miramar High School in Miramar, Fla. He retired from Miramar in 1990.

He was an avid baseball fan.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Enas W. Reidy II of Mobile, Ala., and Paul F. Reidy of Mashpee; two daughters, Peggy Arner of Cooper City, Fla., and Susan Bristol of Osterville; a brother, Frederick Reidy of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Jane Mackey of Hollywood, Fla., and Ann Morrissey of Milford, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was private. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.

Grenith R. Rood, 95

Hyannis-Grenith R. Rood, 95, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000 at home, after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Arthur B. Rood and the late Patrick Joseph Fallon.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, she lived there until moving to New York during her teen years. She moved to Cambridge, married and later moved to the Cape. She lived in Harwich during the 1930s and then moved to Hyannis during the 1940s, where she lived until her death.

A private cook for several families in the mid-Cape area, she also cooked for the Barnstable School Department at one time, retiring about ten years ago.

She enjoyed crocheting, needlework and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Grenith M. Rose of Wrentham and Kathleen M. Perry of Hyannis; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many relatives in Canada.

She was also the mother of the late Arthur B. Rood, Jr. and the late Patricia M. Davis.

A celebration of life was held Saturday in the family home, 49 Woodland Ave., Hyannis. Burial was private.

Ruth F. Stocks, 61

Cotuit-Ruth F. (Murphy) Stocks, 61, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000 in Groveland.

She was the wife of the late Edward A. Stocks.

Born and raised in Putnam, Conn., she spent most of her life there before moving to Cotuit four years ago. She graduated from Putnam Catholic Academy and Aunhunt College in Woodstock, Conn., with a bachelor's degree in social work.

For 24 years, she was a social worker for the Connecticut Department of Mental Retardation.

Mrs. Stocks was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam, and Christ the King Church in Mashpee.

She enjoyed travel and collecting kaleidoscopes and handblown glass. Those interests led to her favorite hobby of designing and creating stained glass artworks.

She is survived by her mother, Lillian E. (Beaudreault) Murphy of Brooklyn, Conn.; two sons, Dana Stocks of Bristol, England and Dean Stocks of Putnam, Conn.; two daughters, Susan Satterly of Cortland, N.Y., and Sandra Nelson of Groveland; a sister, Elaine Chicoine of Dayville, Conn.; five grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.

She was also the grandmother of the late Kimberly Satterly.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam.

Emma S. Topham, 88

Sandwich-Emma Sears Topham, 88, formerly of Framingham, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 in Sandwich.

She was the wife of the late John F. Topham.

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth A. Valko of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, John F. Topham Jr. of West Barnstable and Charles Topham of South Natick; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 87 Edgell Road, Framingham.

Andrew A. Adinolfi, 86

Fort Myers-Andrew A. Adinolfi, age 86, of Fort Myers, Fla., died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Lee Memorial Park Hospital, Ft. Myers. He was the husband of the late Amelia B. (Romaka) Adinolfi. At the time of her death last September, they had been married for 62 years.

He was born in Newark, N.J., a son of the late John Adinolfi and the late Louisa (Cicenia) Adinolfi, and had lived in Wellesley and South Yarmouth for many years, moving to Florida 21 years ago.

Mr. Adinolfi, a Certified Life Underwriter, worked for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company for 42 years, retiring in 1975. He began his career in New York City as a district agent. He became nationally known for his extensive insurance knowledge and motivational abilities. Mr. Adinolfi chose an early retirement from his position of senior vice president and director of distriet agencies in order to purse a second career in the legal profession by attending Suffolk Law Sehool.

He was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific, and was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant.

Mr. Adinolfi enjoyed reading and golf and was deeply involved with amateur theater in Jamaica Bay, where he lived for the past 21 years, and was well known for his stand-up comedy monologues.

He is survived by a daughter, Andrea A. Christianson of Cummaquid; a son, Allen A. Adinolfi of Sandwich; five grandehildren; two great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

Final arrangements were private.
