Louise M. Chase, 78

Hyannis - Louise M. (O'Connor) Chase, 78, a lifelong Cape resident, died April 6, 2000, at the Hospice House in Barnstable after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Robert D. Chase.

Born in Dennisport, Mrs. Chase was educated in Dennis schools. She graduated from the former Cape Cod Secretarial School and from Lasalle College in 1942.

A resident of Hyannis for 57 years, she was a member of the Federated Church and the Junior Women's Club of Yarmouth. She was also an avid supporter of the Heart Fund and worked with her husband, who was its vice president.

For several years, she worked for Cape Cod Bank and Trust Co. in Harwich and Orleans. After her mother's retirement, she and her sister managed the family department store in Dennisport.

Mrs. Chase loved her flower and vegetable gardens and was a gifted amateur poet. In addition to composing verses for friends and family, she wrote for special occasions, such as her daughter's wedding and her grandchildren's births.

Surviving are a son, Robert P. Chase of Dennis; two daughters, Mary L. Garrison of Centerville and Carol J. Chapman of Onset; a sister, Gertrude L. Martenson of Harwich; her companion of 18 years, Fred H. Oehme of West Hyannisport; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul J. Gray, 65

Hyannis - Paul J. Gray, 65, a business owner and building contractor, died unexpectedly April 3, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital.

Born in Ford City, Pa., Mr. Gray was a 1968 graduate of San Diego State University. He moved to East Wareham in 1969 from San Diego.

He served in the National Guard in Washington state from 1954 to 1956 and in the Army from 1956 to 1961.

Mr. Gray owned Merrihews Package Store in Onset from 1970 to 1977. He also owned a restaurant in Hyannis and was a building contractor until the time of his death.

Surviving are a son, Matthew R. Gray of Centerville; a sister, Barbara Beale of Pahrumo, Nev.; a brother, Thomas Baker of Las Vegas; and a close friend, Linda Parks of Hyannis.

Ruth C. Howe, 72

Hyannis - Ruth C. Howe, 72, of Hyannis, died April 7, 2000, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Mrs. Howe was born in Boston, grew up in South Boston, attended Boston schools and resided in Mattapan for 40 years before moving to Hyannis 10 years ago.

She was an employee of building services at Massachusetts General Hospital for 20 years, until 1975.

The daughter of vaudeville entertainers, Mrs. Howe was a talented singer. She entertained during the early years of her career, singing on the radio. She was a former member of the Roxbury Amateur Guild, known as "RAGS."

She is survived by two sons, Andrew McEachern of Hyannis and William J. McEachern of California; two daughters, Carolann Bombard of Worcester and Jeanmarie McEachern-Thompson of Mattapan; a sister, Marie Bibeau of Waltham; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Martha I. Ingram, 89

Hyannis - Martha I. Ingram, 89, a Cape resident since 1983, died April 3, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital.

Born and raised in Medford, Mrs. Ingram sang professionally in the Boston Opera and in Boston area nightclubs. She also played the piano.

Mrs. Ingram was active in the First Methodist Church in East Weymouth. She was a soloist, choir master and director of the Youth Choir.

In 1983, she moved to the Cape with her sister, and they lived at Fawcett's Pond in Hyannis.

Active in youth organizations, she loved taking care of children. She was also active in arts and crafts.

Surviving are three sons, Russell H. Ingram of Canton, Fredrick C. Ingram of Duxbury and Stephen L. Ingram of Emmaus, Pa.; four granddaughters; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Cod Hospital Building Fund, 27 Park St., Hyannis; or to Cape Cod Elderly Services.

Alice M. Leger, 92

Fitchburg - Alice M. (Boudreau) Leger, 92, a former resident of Hyannis, died April 8, 2000, in Fairlawn Nursing Home, Leominster, after an illness.

She was the wife of Albert J. Leger, who died in 1976.

Mrs. Leger was born in Fitchburg and lived there all her life until moving to Hyannis in 1996. In 1999 she moved to Leominster.

Mrs. Leger worked for many years for Victory Markets in Fitchburg before retiring 25 years ago.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Fitchburg.

She leaves a daughter, Betty A. Coombs of Fitchburg; three granddaughters; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Fritz F. Lindquist, 86

South Yarmouth - Fritz F. Lindquist, 86, an educator and civic leader, died April 1, 2000, at his home in South Yarmouth after an illness of several months.

He was the husband of Ethel Lindquist, who died in 1997.

Born in Stockholm, Mr. Lindquist moved with his parents to this country and graduated from Brockton High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Massachusetts State College, where he also did graduate work, and from Boston University, Boston College and Harvard University, where he received a degree in advanced educational studies and a doctorate in education in 1960.

A former superintendent of schools, he had served as chairman of the Yarmouth Board of Appeals and as a member of the Planning Board, South Yarmouth Library Board and was commodore of the Bass River Yacht Club from 1988 to 1989. At the time of his death, he had been treasurer of the Harvard Club of Cape Cod for 16 years, and was on the board of trustees of the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth and vice chairman of Vinland Lodge. He also belonged to a Masonic Lodge in Brighton.

During World War II, Mr. Lindquist served in the Navy Department Field Service. He later taught at Newton and Barnstable High School and was also principal of Pepperell High School and superintendent of Dover-Sherborn High. The Common Building at Dover-Sherborn was named after Mr. Lindquist. Later, he was superintendent of schools in Lawrence.

While at Dover-Sherborn, he was a part-time associate professor of school administration at Massachusetts State College and later served as consultant to the Massachusetts Federation of Teachers. He was appointed by Gov. Sargent to the Area Board of Retardation and Mental Health and named by Gov. Volpe to the Education Compact Council. He also had served on the Committee for Standards for Private Schools and was director of the Massachusetts Association for Children with Learning Disabilities.

He was past president of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, served on the Advisory Council of the Department of Education and was appointed by the West German Government to inspect schools and lecture at Teacher Training Schools.

Surviving are a son, Charles A. Lindquist of Birmingham, Ala.; two granddaughters, Andrea Hupp of Roanoke, Va., and Christine Lindquist of Durham, N.C.; and a great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. April 15 at the South Yarmouth Methodist Church.

W. Alan Lovejoy, 70

Keene, N.H. - W. Alan Lovejoy, 70, a former resident of Centerville, died April 4, 2000, at his home.

He was the husband of Frances M. (Flanagan) Lovejoy for 43 years.

Born in Cummaquid, Mr. Lovejoy lived in Centerville for many years. During that time he worked for 10 years as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Hyannis.

In 1967 Mr. Lovejoy moved to Keene where he worked for 15 years with the former Wettereau of Keene. He then worked for 10 years for the Postal Service in Keene. He served with the Army during the Korean conflict.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Douglas E. Lovejoy of Rockland; three daughters, Alana J. Carbone and Diane F. Meagher, both of Keene, and Claire T. Lovejoy of Marlborough, N.H.; three brothers, Bruce Lovejoy of Fort Myers, Fla., Ralph Lovejoy of Yarmouth, and Harry Clagg of Prineville, Ore.; his stepmother, Florence Lovejoy of Barnstable; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Alice E. Lyons

Centerville - Alice E. (Knox) Lyons, a former hotel owner and model, died April 5, 2000, in Centerville.

She was the wife of the late Thomas H. Lyons Sr.

Born in Lynn, Mrs. Lyons attended Lynn Public Schools. She and her husband owned the Hotel Attaquin in Mashpee. She was also a former model in Boston.

Surviving are a brother, Clifford J. Knox Jr. of Marina del Ray, Calif.; three sisters, Rose M. Wade of Mount Vernon, Maine, Theodora B. Fuller of Manchester, N.H., and Jessie L. Dexter of Swampscott; two stepgrandsons; a stepgranddaughter; three great-stepgrandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; four grandnephews; 14 grandnieces; two great-grandnephews; and four great-grandnieces.

Marion M. Myers, 90

Yarmouthport - Marion Malchman Myers, 90, a resident of Yarmouthport, died April 2, 2000, at her home.

She was the wife of the late George D. Myers.

Born in Falmouth, Mrs. Myers was a lifelong resident of the Cape. She was valedictorian at Falmouth High School and a graduate of Boston University. She was co-founder and president of The Myers Furniture Co.

Mrs. Myers was very active in the arts and the Cape community. She was past president of the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, the Sisterhood of Cape Cod Synagogue and the Quota Club of Cape Cod. She was also a past board member of the Hyannis Public Library and the former Merchants Bank in Hyannis.

Over the years, she was an active member of the Cape Cod Synagogue, Hadassah, Eastern Star, Heart Association, National Home Furnishings Association and both Cape Cod and Hyannis Area chambers of commerce.

In 1989, she was elected honorary chairwoman of Boston Pops by the Sea, and in 1997 Woman of the Year by Woman for Symphony.

Surviving are a son, Stuart F. Myers of Centerville; a sister, Eleanor Smith of Falmouth; four grandsons; two great-grandchildren; a niece; and several nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Cod Synagogue, the Hospice of Cape Cod or the Cape Cod Symphony.

Rachel Pallatroni, 97

Hyannis - Rachel (Taylor) Pallatroni, 97, a resident of Hyannis since 1980, died April 1, 2000, at the Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville.

She was the wife of the late Henry F. Pallatroni.

Born in Edgerton, England, Mrs. Pallatroni lived in Mattapoisett most of her life before moving to Hyannis in 1980. She was a former member of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church.

Mrs. Pallatroni was a soloist and sang in many local churches. She also enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are a daughter, Anne Brown of Centerville; a brother, Wilfred Taylor of West Barnstable; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late Henry F. Pallatroni Jr.
