Paul R. Turner, 81

Barnstable - Paul R. Turner, 81, a longtime resident of Barnstable, died June 2, 2000, at the Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville.

He was the husband of S. Ellen Turner.

Born in Bedford, Mr. Turner graduated from East Bridgewater High School in 1937. He was a World War II and Korean War Army veteran, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

He owned and operated Turner's Ice Cream Parlor in Hyannis for many years until his retirement.

Mr. Turner was a member of the Rotary Club of Hyannis, where he was past president and past governor of the District 7950, Satucket Lodge AF & AM of Masons in Bridgewater for more than 53 years, Orient Royal Arch Chapter, Cape Cod Council R. & S.M. and Cape Cod Commandery No. 54 Knights Templar of Centerville. He was also a Shrine Mason and member of the Aleppo Temple A.A.O.N.M.A. and the Cape Cod Shrine Club.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Dell K. Friedline of Centerville; a brother, Jack Turner of Reading; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Thomas L. Warren, 88

Osterville - Thomas L. Warren, 88, a retired educator, died June 5, 2000, at the Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville after a long illness.

He was the husband of Teresa (Kelly) Warren for 51 years.

Born in Tewksbury, Mr. Warren graduated from Lawrence High School and Cushing Academy. He also received a bachelor's degree in education from Bridgewater State College, a master's degree in education from Boston University and did advanced study at Harvard University.

In May of 1942, he enlisted in the Army. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Mr. Warren taught in Marion before becoming the town's assistant superintendent. He was then the union superintendent for Charlemont, Heath, Hawley and Rowe from 1948 to 1954. He next became union superintendent of Dighton, Berkley, Freetown and Gosnold.

In 1955, Mr. Warren became superintendent of schools in Randolph, a position he held until his retirement in 1978.

Hewas a member and served as president to both the South Shore Superintendents Association and the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents during his years in Randolph.

Nationally, he served for three years as a member of the executive board of the National Academy for School Executives and for six years on the Advisory Council of the American Association of School Administrators.

In 1979, Mr. Warren and his wife retired to Osterville. He was a Barnstable town meeting member, as well as an active member of the Barnstable Democratic Town Committee and a member of the Osterville Men's Club. He attended Our Lady of the Assumption church in Osterville, where he served as an Eucharistic minister.

Surviving besides his wife are five children, Margaret Sherman and Thomas L. Warren Jr., both of Mashpee, Elizabeth Warren of Centerville, Mary Durham of Dennis and Ann Lyons of Riverside, Conn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Clarence L. Bowe, 64

Hyannis - Clarence Lewis Bowe, 64, a resident of Hyannis, died unexpectedly June 18, 2000, at his home.

He was the husband of Elsie-Marie Bowe for 32 years.

A resident of Hyannis for many years, he worked for Acme Laundry in Hyannis for 25 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Doretha (Warner) Bowe of Danville, Va.; a son, Clarence D. Bowe of Salem, N.H.; a brother, Curtis Bowe of Berlin, N.J.; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to Cape Cod Hospital, 27 Park St., Hyannis, MA 02601; or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Isabelle M. Bushnell, 86

West Roxbury - Isabelle Marckwald Bushnell, 86, a former resident of Osterville, died June 14, 2000, at the Palliative Care Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, after a brief illness.

She was the wife of Daniel Bushnell.

A native of Short Hills, N.J., Mrs. Bushnell graduated from Vassar College in 1935, married and settled in Morristown, N.J., where she was president of the Junior League and vice president of the Family Service Society.

In 1951, she was awarded the Eleanor Roosevelt Citizenship Award for her Junior League service.

Mrs. Bushnell and her husband moved to Concord in 1952. She continued her service work as president of the Concord Family Service and as a director of United Community Services of Boston.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Mrs. Bushnell served on the Concord Finance Committee, became the first woman incorporator of the Middlesex Institution for Savings, Concord, and was chairwoman of the Concord Republican Town Committee.

In addition, she worked on Elliot Richardson's campaigns for lieutenant governor and attorney general of Massachusetts in 1964 and 1966.

While living in Osterville from 1975 to 1990, Mrs. Bushnell was elected town meeting representative for the town of Osterville during the years of 1977, 1978 and 1979. She was also trustee of the public library and a warden of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, Davis Bushnell of Boxborough; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Gabrielle (Soucy) Cartmill, 74

Cotuit - Gabrielle (Soucy) Cartmill, 74, a Cape resident since 1998, died June 22, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

She was the wife of the late David W. Cartmill.

Born and raised in Lowell, Mrs. Cartmill moved to Chicopee in her early 20s, where she lived until moving to Cotuit in 1998.

Mrs. Cartmill was a field supervisor for Price and Lee of New Haven, Conn., for almost 30 years. She also worked as a machinist for Falls Machine and Screw in Chicopee.

For 10 years, she delivered Meals on Wheels for Western Massachusetts Elder Care.

Surviving are a son, William A. Cartmill of Centerville; a daughter, Susan M. Malone of Arvada, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Funeral and burial are private.

David J. Cronin, 47

Hyannis - David J. Cronin, 47, a Cape resident since 1975, died June 20, 2000, at his home after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Joyce (Drew) Cronin.

Born in Milford, Mr. Cronin was raised in Bellingham and was a graduate of the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown.

A resident of Hyannis since 1975, he worked for Colonial Candle in Hyannis. He served on the board of directors at the Assemblies of God Church in Hyannis, and was a deacon there as well as a Sunday school teacher.

Mr. Cronin was an avid lover of all forms of music and enjoyed tapes of old radio shows. He will be missed by his loving family and by Emmy, his seeing eye dog of eight years.

Surviving besides his wife are his father, James H. Cronin Sr. of Sandisfield; two daughters, Jennifer Cronin of Bridgeport, Conn., and Sarah Cronin of Buzzards Bay; a twin brother, James H. Cronin Jr. of Bellingham; and a sister, Linda Charland of Blackstone.

Memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, 88 Kingston St., Boston, MA 02111-2227.

Thomas B. Eaton, 82

South Yarmouth - Thomas Benedict Eaton, 82, a Cape resident since 1963, died June 20, 2000, at his home after a long illness.

He was the husband of Wanda (Marlinska) Eaton.

Born in Cambridge, Mr. Eaton graduated from Waltham High School in 1935. He moved to South Dennis in 1963 and later to South Yarmouth.

Mr. Eaton was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army from 1941 to 1945. He worked for A&P Supermarkets for 40 years until retiring in 1980. He had worked in many of the supermarkets on the Cape as well as off, and was manager of the Orleans store.

An avid traveler and Red Sox fan, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2578 in Hyannis, Polish Society of Cape Cod and the Islands and Friends of Yarmouth Council on Aging.

Surviving besides his wife of 58 years are a daughter, Joyce Bearse of Harwich; four sisters, Nettie Grimes of Waltham, Lillian Meador of Texas , Dorothy Coffia of California and Mary Frances Eaton of Waltham; and two grandsons.

Bruno Bertalia Gomes, 2

Hyannis - Bruno Bertalia Gomes, 2, died June 17, 2000, at his home after a long illness with cancer.

He was the son of Edivaldo and Edinamar (Bertalia) Gomes of Hyannis.

Bruno was born in Cape Cod Hospital and lived in Hyannis.

Surviving besides his parents are his paternal grandparents, Juvencio and Valdecir Gomes of Brazil; his maternal grandparents, Antonio and Anilee Bertalia of Brazil; three uncles; one aunt; and many cousins.

Claire G. Green, 74

Osterville ­ Claire (Greenbaum) Green, 72, of Oyster Harbors, Oysterville, died June 24, 2000, at her home.

She was the wife of the late Leonard S. Green.

Mrs. Green was born in Boston and grew up in Brighton, where she graduated from Brighton High School. She received a bachelor's degree in speech therapy from Emerson College in Boston. She taught kindergarten in the Boston public schools for two years.

For the past 20 years, Mrs. Green was a resident of Osterville. From 1985 to 1995, she was the owner of Madeline Horn Needlepoint on Main Street in Osterville,

Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Leslie of Illinois and Jody Lonergan of Brookline; a son, Joseph Green of Sudbury; a brother, Jerome Greenbaum of Florida; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Michael P. Hallett, 44

Hyannis - Michael Patrick Hallett, 44, a resident of Hyannis, died June 18, 2000, in Hyannis after a brief illness.

He was the son of Raymond Hallett Jr. of Yarmouth and Marylin (Ellis) Hallett of Hyannis.

Born and raised in Hyannis, Mr. Hallett worked at the Cape Cod Mall for 13 years and at the Cape Crossroads for three years.

He enjoyed bike riding.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his stepparents, June and Bob Peterson of Hyannis; his maternal grandmother, Jenny Ellis of South Yarmouth; two brothers, Russell Hallett and Robert Hallett, both of Hyannis; three sisters, Sharon Norton and Betty Hallett, both of Hyannis, and Christine Hallett of South Dennis; a stepsister, Donna Peterson of Hyannis; a stepbrother, Scott Peterson of Hyannis; and several nieces and nephews.
