Joseph Frances DePaolo, 77

Marstons Mills- Joseph Frances DePaolo, 77, restaurateur and businessman, died Dec, 29, 2000, following a brief illness.
He was the husband of Louise "Sis" (Ardolino) DePaolo for 50 years.
Mr. DePaolo was born in Boston's North End. He moved to Yarmouthport in 1974 and then to Marstons Mills in 1995. He established Il Maestro's Restaurant in Hyannis with his family in 1989, retiring in 1995.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Gina Leonovich of Marstons Mills; three sons, Anthony DePaolo of Boston, Joseph DePaolo of Marstons Mills, and Michael DePaolo of Mashpee; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675.

Bertha Gifford, 81

Cotuit - Bertha (Keniston) Gifford, 81, a resident of Cotuit, died unexpectedly Dec. 16, 2000, at her home.
She was the wife of Weston Gifford, who died in 1973.
Born in Boston, Mrs. Gifford was a graduate of State Teachers College in Hyannis.
Mrs. Gifford taught physical education for a year in Falmouth before going to work for the Barnstable school system, where she worked for many years teaching physical education in the elementary schools. She retired in 1973.
Surviving are four daughters, Frances E. Guest of Sebastian, Fla., Katherine L. Johnson of Loveland, Ohio, Marsha H. Hallett of South Yarmouth and Vicki A. Baxter of Centerville; three sons, Thomas W. Gifford of Miami, Fla., Kenneth H. Gifford of Hyannis and Jeffrey W. Gifford of Cotuit; a sister, Esther Warner of Westfield; a brother, William Keniston; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cotuit Library Association, Main Street, Cotuit, MA 02635.

Rosalie Gomes, 62

Hyannis - Rosalie Gomes, 62, died Dec. 10, 2000, following a long illness.
Born on Cape Cod, Ms. Gomes was a native of Marstons Mills and worked for many years at Colonial Candle, as well as for the town of Barnstable and for T.J. Maxx.
She was an avid reader.
Surviving are a daughter, Pamela Maddox-Lewis of Morrow, Ga., two sons, Stanley and Richard Maddox, both of Hyannis; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 6 at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Osterville.
Memorial donations may be made to the Harwich Food Pantry; or to the American Cancer Society.

Joseph W. Hallett, 83

Cotuit - Joseph "Joe" W. Hallett, 83, died Dec. 29, 2000.
He was the husband of V. Joanne (Ford) Hallett.
Mr. Hallett was born in Osterville. He graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and served during World War II as a first mate on merchant marine ships carrying supplies to troops.
Following the war, Mr. Hallett returned to Osterville and for more than 40 years operated the family plumbing business, G. W. Hallett and Sons.
He was a member of the Cotuit Sportsmen's Club for many years. He served as a water commissioner in Cotuit, and was an avid duck hunter.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Spencer Hallett of Cotuit and Barry J. Hallett of Gloucester; three sisters; one brother; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice House, 88 Railroad Ave., Barnstable, MA 02630.

Barbara C. Henry, 93

Brattleboro, Vt. - Barbara C. Henry, 93, formerly of Cape Cod, died Dec. 17, 2000, at Eden Park Nursing Home in Brattleboro following a period of declining health.
She was the wife of Richard A. Henry who died in 1981.
Mrs. Henry was born and raised in Hyannis, where she attended local schools. Following high school, she attended Mt. Ida College in Newton Center, where she majored in art. She graduated from Vesper George School of Art in Boston with a bachelor's degree in art.
For several years, she taught art for the public school system in Concord, N.H. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Yarmouthport. Her interests included painting, notably Cape Cod scenery, arts and crafts, and time shared with her family.
Surviving are two sons, Robert C. Henry of Brattleboro and James A. Henry of Waitsfield, Vt., a daughter, Barbara Broom Bartlett of Kirksville, Mo., a sister, Hilda Swift of Centerville; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and burial will be held on Cape Cod next spring.

Ruth Knight, 82

Cotuit - Ruth (Crocker) Knight, 82, of Cotuit, died Dec. 22, 2000, at the Sherrill House in Jamaica Plain.
She was the wife of Alfred C. Knight, who died in 1994.
Mrs. Knight was born in Roslindale and educated in Boston schools. She was a longtime resident of Cotuit and a member of the Cotuit Federated Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Laurel K. Cobb of Kingston, R.I., and Lois H. Knight of Boston; a son, Alfred C. Knight of Old Greenwich, Conn.; a sister, Lois Gill of Concord, N.H.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Cotuit Federated Church, School Street, Cotuit, MA 02536; or to a charity of one's choice.

V. Louise LaPrade, 82

Hyannis - V. Louise LaPrade, 82, a longtime Cape resident, died Dec. 22, 2000, at The Greenery Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center after a long illness.
She was the wife of Louis R. LaPrade, who died in 1989.
Mrs. LaPrade was born in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School in 1936. She lived in Bridgewater after her marriage and moved to Cape Cod in 1951.
A homemaker and an accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed reading and needlework. She also worked at various retail stores in Hyannis.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Philip Bernier of West Yarmouth, her caregivers; a daughter, Nancy Hawse of New Bedford; a sister, Lucille James of California; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for the spring.

Philip LeBoeuf, 59

Hyannis - Philip LeBoeuf, 59, a resident of Hyannis, died Dec. 17, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Marilyn (Lau) LeBoeuf.
Mr. LeBoeuf was raised in Brockton. He managed John's Loft and the Mayflower Diner for many years and had worked in the restaurant business for more than 40 years until his retirement.
An avid backgammon player, he also enjoyed boating, gardening and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Christine LeBoeuf of Hyannis; a son, Philip E. LeBoeuf of Florida; three brothers, Richard LeBoeuf of New Hampshire, Donald LeBoeuf of Florida and James LeBoeuf of Hyannis; five sisters, Christine Robinson, Jackie LeBoeuf and Lori LeBoeuf, all of Hyannis, Linda Davis of Centerville and Frene LeBoeuf of Cotuit; two grandsons; two uncles; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society/Cape Cod Unit, 1115 W. Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02401.

John F. Lynch, 80

Osterville - John Francis Lynch, 80, a resident of Osterville and Fort Myers, Fla., died Dec. 17, 2000, at Bedford Veterans Administration Hospital in Bedford, where he had been a patient for the past 10 years.
He was the husband of Shirley (Utley) Lynch.
Born in Worcester, Mr. Lynch attended Worcester public schools and College of the Holy Cross. He joined the Navy in 1942 and was stationed in the South Pacific.
Mr. Lynch was discharged from the Navy in 1945. He then returned to Worcester, where he worked as a stockbroker for several years before moving to Cape Cod.
After moving to the Cape, he worked for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue in Hyannis as a senior tax examiner until his illness forced his retirement.
Surviving besides his wife are two brothers, Thomas Lynch of Worcester and James Lynch of Cotuit; a sister, Mary Goodell of Holden; several nephews and a niece.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Cape Cod, 895 Mary Dunn Road, Hyannis, MA 02601; or to the charity of one's choice.
