Evelyn Marie 'Lynn' Higgins

Hyannis - Evelyn Marie "Lynn" (Hayden) Higgins died March 17, 2001, at Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville.
Mrs. Higgins was born in Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton High School. She had been a resident of Hyannis since 1948 and wintered in Palm Beach, Fla., for many years.
Mrs. Higgins was a tour guide at the JFK Museum in Hyannis. She had also been an employee of Trade Winds Inn in Craigville, the former Yachtsman Hotel in Hyannis, the selectmen's office in the town of Barnstable, and Buttner's.
She was an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed sailing and was a past member of the Cape Cod Power Squadron.
Surviving are a daughter, Judith Anne Segerman of Centerville; a son, John L. Higgins of Bradenton, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were private.

Emily W. Horn, 93

Rochester, N.Y. - Emily W. Horn, 93, formerly of Centerville, died March 31, 2001, at Woodside Manor Nursing Home in Rochester.
Mrs. Horn was the wife of the late Frank W. Horn, and lived in Centerville for more than 60 years.
She was born in Needham, and was a graduate of Wellesley College. She received her master's degree in library science from Columbia University.
Mrs. Horn was a Navy veteran of World War II.
She was the volunteer librarian at St. Mary's Church in Barnstable for a number of years. She worked with her husband on the formation of the Centerville Civic Association, and was a past member of the Centerville Historical Society. She enjoyed travel and was an accomplished gardener.
She leaves her sister, Mary Morton of Florida; her daughter, Alice Scudder of Pittsford, N.Y.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were private.
Memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Audubon Society, for the Ashumet Holly Reservation and Wildlife Sanctuary or the Coastal Waterbird Program on Cape Cod.

Eunice H. Ireland

Hyannis - Eunice H. (McCue) Ireland, a resident of Hyannis, died April 5, 2001, at the Rosewood Manor Nursing Home in Harwich after an illness.
She was the wife of John F. Ireland, who died in 1972.
Mrs. Ireland was born, raised and educated in Berwick, Maine. She graduated from Bates College. After marrying, she settled in Berwick for a short time before moving to Orleans, and later to Hyannis. She taught secondary English and Latin in Berwick and in Orleans.
Mrs. Ireland was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hyannis and a member and past secretary of its Women's Fellowship.
Surviving are a son, Thomas C. Ireland of Marion; a daughter, Kathleen E. Meece of Hyannis; four grandsons; and a great-grandson.
She was also the mother of the late Dr. John Ireland and the late William Ireland.
A graveside service was held at the Oak Grove Cemetery

Harry Leland 'Lee' Jones III, 57

Port Charlotte, Fla. - Harry Leland "Lee" Jones III, 57, a former resident of Osterville, died March 23, 2001, at his home in Port Charlotte.
He was the husband of Elizabeth "Betty" S. Jones.
Born in Baltimore, Mr. Jones moved from Osterville to Port Charlotte in 1995, where he was a member of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. A drummer, he was a member of the Charlotte County Jazz Society. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving in the Vietnam era.
Surviving besides his wife is his mother, Lillian E. Jones of Centerville; a brother, James C. Jones of Palm City, Fla.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held in Port Charlotte. Graveside committal services will be held at a later date in Cummaquid Cemetery in Barnstable.

Raymond L. King, 77

Centerville - Raymond L. King , 77, of Centerville, formerly of Watertown and West Roxbury, died April 2, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Facility Pavilion in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Mary C (Cooney) King.
Born in Cambridge and raised in Somerville, Mr. King was a Cape Cod resident since 1986.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.
Mr. King was a commercial photographer with Boston Photocopy for many years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the VFW in Hyannis.
Besides his wife, Mr. King leaves two daughters, Janet M. Smith of Watertown and Nancy M. Mazzeo of Arlington; a brother, Francis King of Plymouth; and four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville. Burial was in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

James H. McInerney, 86

Greenwich, Conn. - James H. McInerney, 86, of Greenwich and Osterville, died April 6, 2001, at his home in Greenwich.
He was the husband of the late Virginia Kelly McInerney for 57 years.
Born in Boston, Mr. McInerney graduated from Boston Latin School, where he was president of his class and colonel of the school regiment. He graduated from Boston College, where he was class president, with a degree in philosophy and economics, and earned a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School in 1940.
During World War II, Mr. McInerney served in the Navy as an aviation supply officer, both in the Philadelphia Navy Yard and aboard the aircraft carrier USS Langley. He was awarded a commendation from the secretary of the Navy for inaugurating an innovative inventory control system. At war's end, he was involved in logistics planning for the invasion of Japan. He was discharged as a lieutenant commander in 1945.
After the war, Mr. McInerney worked for an investment counseling firm on Wall Street and in 1946 he joined the American Distilling Co., becoming its Eastern division manager. In 1950 he joined National Distillers as Midwestern manager in Chicago. He subsequently became responsible for the Eastern division, eventually becoming senior vice president of sales. After serving as assistant general manager for two years he became president, a position he held until his retirement in 1977. He was a founding member of DISCUS, the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States.
Mr. McInerney was a former member of the Cardinal's Committee of the Laity for the Archdiocese of New York. He served as head of the United Hospital Fund and was a past member of the board of directors of the New York Community Chest. He was past president of the Larchmont, N.Y., University Club, where he lived for many years prior to moving to Greenwich in 1974.
He was a member of the Navy League, the Winged Foot Golf Club and the Wianno Golf Club.
Surviving are three sons, James H. McInerney III of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Thomas K. McInerney of New Canaan, Conn., and Peter K. McInerney of Oberlin, Ohio; two daughters, Susan M. Larkin of Wyomissing, Pa., and Virginia M. Stephens of Brewster, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Michael Church in Greenwich, followed by burial in Holy Hood Cemetery in Brookline.

Ruth E. Neale, 72

Barnstable - Ruth E. (Webber) Neale, 72, a longtime Cape resident, died April 7, 2001, at Cape Heritage Nursing Home in Sandwich.
She was the wife of Walter F. Neale Jr.
Born in Boston, Mrs. Neale was a graduate of Mary E. Curley School in Jamaica Plain.
She was a 28-year resident of Barnstable.
Mrs. Neale was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and the Cummaquid Golf Club.
Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Walter F. Neale III of Melbourne, Fla., Wayne E. Neale of Barnstable, and Dana A. Neale of Mystic, Conn; two brothers, Arthur Webber and Edwin Webber, both of Roslindale; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held at St. Mary's Church in Barnstable. Burial followed at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Chestnut St., Suite 301, Brockton, MA 02401.

Bradford C. Poole

Cotuit - Bradford C. Poole of Cotuit, formerly of Taunton, died March 29, 2001, at Hospice House in Barnstable following a long illness.
He was the husband of Barbara (Chase) Poole.
Mr. Poole was born in Taunton. He graduated from Kimball Union Academy in 1938 and attended Middlebury College and Northeastern University.
During World War II, he served in the Navy as a quartermaster 2nd class.
Following the war, he was employed as a design engineer for Texas Instrument Co. for 28 years.
Mr. Poole was a member of the Waquoit Congregational Church. He enjoyed watercolor painting, singing with the Mashpee Singers, and barbershop music.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Linda Beaudain of Venice, Fla., Deborah Poole of Yarmouth, and Margaret Schembre of Narragansett, R.I.; a son, Robert A. Poole of Rockport, Maine; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in the Waquoit Congregational Church.
