Antone P. Medeiros Jr., 46

New Bedford - Antone P. Medeiros Jr., 46, a former Cape resident, died of a brain tumor April 10, 2001, at the Rose Hawthorne Home in Fall River.
He was the husband of Debbie (Dorr) Medeiros.
Born in New Bedford, Mr. Medeiros was raised and educated in New Bedford and on Cape Cod. He was a graduate of Barnstable High School.
Mr. Medeiros worked for the family business, Bedford Fruit & Produce Co., located in Hyannis, as a tractor-trailer driver for many years. He had also worked for several other trucking companies as a cross-country driver and stopped working in October due to illness. He lived on the Cape until moving to New Bedford two years ago.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Scott A. Medeiros, Adam P. Medeiros and Christopher P. Medeiros, all of Florida; his mother, Geraldina M. (Sousa) Medeiros of Hyannis; a brother, Michael A. Medeiros of Marstons Mills; a sister, Kathleen Morin of Centerville; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis, with burial followign in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville.
Memorial donations may be made to the Rose Hawthorne Home, 1600 Bay St., Fall River, MA 02724.

Mary Ada Person, 85

Yarmouthport - Mary Ada (Regan) Person, 85, died April 10, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis of congestive heart failure
She was the wife of Burton R Person for 55 years.
Mrs. Person was born in Roxbury and attended Girls High School in Boston. She was the eldest of nine children. She lived in Braintree, South Weymouth, and Reading before moving to Ivoryton, Conn., in 1963. She and her husband retired to Cape Cod in 1985.
Mrs. Person was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Centerville.
Surviving besides her husband are three sons, David J. Person of Madison, Conn., Stephen T Person of Washington , D.C., and John C. Person of New Orleans, La.; three sisters, Marion G. Carlier of Centerville, E. Marie McInnis of Abington, and Lorraine T. McCormack of Hull; two brothers, John E. Regan of Spring Hill, Fla., and Thomas J. Regan of South Weymouth; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Centerville, with burial at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery there.

Donald M. Smets, 81

Merrimack, N.H. - Donald M. Smets, 81, formerly of Barnstable, died April 12, 2001, at Hospice House in Merrimack.
He was the husband of Helen Mary (Wallace) Smets who died in 1999.
Born in Medford, Mr. Smets was an Army veteran of World War II. He served as a sergeant with the 92nd Armored Battalion from 1942 to 1945.
He worked in the soft drink industry, holding numerous executive level appointments for Orange Crush and 7-Up, including vice president of Cott Beverages of New Haven, Conn. He retired in 1988.
Mr. Smets was a 12-year resident of Barnstable, and formerly lived in Madison, Conn.
Surviving are two sons, Mark Smets of Amherst and Brian Smets of Hollis; two daughters, Paula Smets and Kristin Zahn, both of Bayville, N.J.; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, with burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice House of Merrimack, 210 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH 03054.

Hazel Lapham Aittaniemi, 86

Marstons Mills - Hazel Lapham Aittaniemi, 86, of Marstons Mills, died April 20, 2001, after a long illness.
She was the wife of Karl William Aittaniemi, who died in 1984.
Mrs. Aittaniemi was born in North Eastham and lived all her life on Cape Cod, living in Osterville for more than 40 years. She was a charter member of the Osterville Garden Club and taught Sunday School for 23 years. She was a member of Christ Chapel and former correspondent for The Barnstable Patriot. Mrs. Aittaniemi enjoyed tole painting, flower arranging and poetry.
Surviving are two sons, Karl William Aittaniemi of West Barnstable, and Alan Aittaniemi of Marstons Mills, with whom she resided; two sisters, Frances Hinckley of Marstons Mills and Janice Nickerson of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a brother, Paul Lapham of Bonita Springs; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Cape Cod, 434 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660; or to C-O-MM Rescue Squad, 1375 Falmouth Road, Centerville, MA 02632.

John J. Baldner Sr., 89

Centerville - John J. Baldner Sr., 89, of Centerville, died April 23, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care - Pavilion, Hyannis.
He was the husband of Janet (Sullivan) Baldner of Centerville and the late Lillian F. (Snell) Baldner.
Mr. Baldner was born in Boston. He grew up in Randolph, and graduated from Stetson High School in Randolph. Mr. Baldner moved to Cape Cod in 1970.
He was the owner of Baldner's IGA Foodliner in Randolph during the 1950s. He later worked as a meat cutter and manager for First National and Stop & Shop grocery stores throughout eastern Massachusetts and the Cape until his retirement in the early 1980s.
He played baseball in high school, and remained an avid fan all his life.
Mr. Baldner was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Men's Club of Our Lady of Victory Church, Centerville.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, John J. Baldner Jr. of Marstons Mills, Edward W. Baldner of West Yarmouth, and Richard F. Baldner of Hyannis; four stepsons, Mark Sullivan of Falmouth, Edward Sullivan of New Hampshire, Jack Sullivan of Quincy, and David Sullivan of Walpole; four stepdaughters, Jean Barrett of Mansfield, Janet Blakely of Florida, Marianne Akin of Falmouth, and Judy Howard of Maine; a sister, Elizabeth Dew of Brockton; six grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held in St. Mary's Church in Randolph, with burial in the church's cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Foundation of Cape Cod, 923 Rte 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675, or to the American Cancer Society, 1115 West Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02401.

Inez Bennett, 98

Hyannis - Inez (Kirk) Bennett, 98, died April 23, 2001, at The Greenery Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Hyannis.
She was the wife of the late F.A. Leslie Bennett.
Mrs. Bennett was born and raised in Wakefield, She attended Curry School of Expression, then opened a dance school in Wakefield where she taught dance and elocution to children for several years.
During the '20s, she performed in several Broadway shows including Ziegfeld's "Sally." She moved to Harwich in 1952 and Hyannis in 1962, where she worked in retail and owned and operated several rooming houses.
She is survived by one daughter, G. Valerie Buck of Chatham; two sons, Lawrence C. Bennett of Los Gatos, Calif. and Jack A. Bennett of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held at the Hallett Funeral Home in South Yarmouth. Burial was at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit
Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association or to any local dance or theater group.

Frances R. Bright, 84

Mashpee - Frances R. (McCarron) Bright, 84, who recently moved from Osterville to Mashpee, died April 21, 2001, at her home after a three-month battle with cancer.
She was the wife of William H. Bright for nearly 60 years.
Mrs. Bright was born in Watertown and graduated from Lexington High School in 1934. After completing courses at the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School, she worked in the Boston office of Employers Liability Insurance Corp. of London. She was married in 1941 and during World War II she returned to the work force, serving at General Accident Insurance Co.
Mrs. Bright was a member of the Ladies Guild at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Osterville. She served as the second vice-president of the Osterville Garden Club in 1990 and 1991, and was an associate member at the time of her death.
She was an advisory board member of the New England Fire and History Museum in Brewster, and had been a volunteer at the Cancer Thrift Shop in Barnstable. She was a member of the Waban Club from 1963 to 1980.
Surviving besides her husband are a son, David Bright of Dixmont, Maine; a daughter, Meg Brady of Marshfield; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Chestnut St., Suite 301, Brockton, MA 02401; to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675; or to a charity of one's choice.

Ronald DiSabato, 53

North Andover - Ronald Nicholas DiSabato, 53, of North Andover, formerly of South Yarmouth, died April 20, 2001, of cancer while in the care of his sister in Hammond, La.
Mr. DiSabato was a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School, Bordentown Military Institute and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
He owned and operated the lottery kiosk in the Cape Cod Mall for several years. He worked as executive chef for The Skipper Restaurant in South Yarmouth.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Kohl DiSabato of West Yarmouth; two sons, Michael DiSabato of Ponchatoula, La., and Nicholas DiSabato of Hammond, La.; a daughter, Lauren DiSabato of Gainesville, Fla.; two brothers, Richard J. DiSabato of North Andover, and Robert J. DiSabato of Westwood; and two sisters, Laura Jane Hurley of Danvers, and Monica D. Greer of Hammond, La.
Memorial donations may be made to North Oaks Hospice, Box 2668, Hammond, LA 70404.
