Frances L. 'Lorraine' Holmberg, 89

Osterville - Frances L. "Lorraine" (Witcher) Holmberg, 89, a resident of Osterville, died May 12, 2001, at the Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville.
She was the wife of the late Elmer V. Holmberg.
Mrs. Holmberg was born, raised and educated in Brockton.
She worked in Brockton banks as an accountant. She moved to Kingston in 1974 and to Osterville in 1981.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and was a former member of the Cape Cod Adventurers Club. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid sports fan.
A graveside service was at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Peters Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 437, Osterville, MA 02655.

Sandra J. 'Sandy' Marchant, 61

Largo, Fla. ­ Sandra J. "Sandy" Marchant, 61, a resident of Largo, died April 28 at Largo Medical Center.
Born in Hyannis, she moved to Largo from Fall River. She worked as a technician for General Electric co. and was in the Navy Reserves.
She was a member of the First Unity Church, St. Petersburg, and the Metro, an amateur radio group.
She is survived by two sons, Scott Marchant of West Yarmouth and Brian Marchant of Cushing, Maine; four sisters, Beverly Watters of Hyannis, Linda Sears of Dennis, Marsha Stout of West Yarmouth, and Cheri Nolan of Alexandria, Va.; three brothers, Kenny Cottle of Newark, Ohio, Stephen Roderick of Saratoga, Calif.; and Frank Roderick of Hyannis; her best friend, Bill Fischer of Largo; and three grandchildren.

John Neves, 76

Hyannis - John Neves, 76, of Hyannis, died May13, 2001, at Rose Hawthorne Lathrap Home in Fall River.
He was the husband of Julia (Cacilda) Neves.
Mr. Neves was born, raised and educated in Taunton, where he graduated from high school. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving as an electrician's mate until his honorable discharge in 1945.
Mr. Neves was a construction laborer in the Boston area for many years until he retired and moved to Hyannis. He was a member of Laborers Union Local 385, Fall River. He enjoyed fishing, and was a member of the American Legion Post 206 in Hyannis.
He is survived by two sisters, Edwina Rocha of Somerset and Virginia Alegi of Taunton; four nephews; and two nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis, with burial following at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Bartlett Nowell, 101

Centerville - Bartlett Nowell, 101, a resident of Centerville since 1965, died May 12, 2001, at the Cape Regency Nursing Home.
He was the husband of the late Doris (Fraser) Nowell.
Mr. Nowell was born in Reading and educated in the Reading school system. He graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1921.
In 1933, he went to work for Lever Brothers in Cambridge. He moved to the Baltimore, Md., facility of Lever Brothers in 1959. Mr. Nowell retired in 1965 and moved to Centerville.
He was an avid longtime fan of the Red Sox and was a former member of the Osterville Men's Club. He attended services at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Barnstable.

Annette 'Princess' Bearse, 37

Osterville - Annette "Princess" (Evangelista) Bearse, 37, of Osterville died May 29, 2001, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.
She was the wife of Douglas E. Bearse of Osterville.
Mrs. Bearse was born in Dorchester, and was a 1981 graduate of Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich.
She was a branch administrator for Edward Jones & Co. Investments in Hyannis.
Mrs. Bearse enjoyed the ocean, riding motorcycles, fishing, family life, and crafts. Her favorite flowers were the lilies that grew in her front yard.
She was also active in the Barnstable Little League.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a son, Joseph Ruo, Jr. of Osterville; a stepson, Joshua Bearse of Barnstable; her parents, Peter and Carol Evangelista of West Yarmouth; two sisters Nicole Evangelista of Nantucket, and Susan Hall of West Yarmouth; two nephews and a niece.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Anthony's Church in East Falmouth.
Memorial donations may be made to Barnstable Little League Inc., P.O. Box 912, Centerville, MA 02632.

Milton G. Choate

Centerville - Milton G. Choate, a resident of Centerville, died June 1, 2001, at the Center for Optimum Care in Mashpee.
He was the husband of Helen (Stewart) Choate for 56 years.
Mr. Choate was born and raised in Salem and graduated from high school there. He attended Northeastern University and Rutgers University Graduate School of Banking.
He worked for several years for State Street Trust Co. in Boston, and later for United States Trust Co., where he became vice president, retiring in 1973.
He served in the Army during World War II with the 483rd AAF Base Unit in the Aleutian Islands and Kurile. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of sergeant.
He lived in Lexington for many years, where he attended Hancock Congregational Church and was a member of the Masons. After moving to South Yarmouth, he became a member of the Howard Lodge AF & AM in South Yarmouth, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hyannis and the Federated Church in Hyannis. He lived in Centerville for 12 years.
Mr. Choate enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, woodworking and travel.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Stephen F. Choate of South Deerfield; a daughter, Jacqueline A. Choate of Conway; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held at the Federated Church of Hyannis, with burial following in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Mary 'Mildred' Duffy, 80

Marstons Mills - Mary "Mildred" (Furey) Duffy, 80, formerly of Medford and Eastham, died June 2, 2001, at the Royal Megansett Nursing Home in North Falmouth.
She was the wife of the late Thomas F. Duffy, Jr.
Mrs. Duffy was born in Lowell, and graduated from Keith Hall as the salutatorian of the Class of 1938. She attended Lowell Teachers College.
During World War II, she worked at the Department of Child Welfare in Boston, where she met her husband.
The family settled in Medford, where she raised her family. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's and St. Raphael's parishes.
Mrs. Duffy and her family moved to Eastham in 1964, where she worked for Head Start, the Department of Mental Health and Elder Services.
She retired in 1987 and lived in Sandwich and Marstons Mills.
Mrs. Duffy is survived by two sons, Thomas F. Duffy III of Brockton and William J. Duffy of Wakefield; two daughters, Mary-Jo "Susie" Duffy of Eastham and Patricia Duffy-Brown of Marstons Mills; a sister, Patricia Fraser of Dracut; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Christ the King Chapel in Mashpee.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Chestnut St., Suite 301, Brockton MA 02401.

Jane W. Horton, 71

Centerville - Jane W. (Armyo) Horton, 71, of Centerville died May 30, 2001, at her home. She was the wife of Bruce Norton, to whom she was married for 49 years.
She was born, raised and educated in Long Island, N.Y. She graduated from Syracuse University where she earned a master's degree in education.
She taught kindergarten and first grade for Great Neck, Garden City, and Pound Ridge schools in New York until retiring in 1985.
She lived in New Canaan, Conn., for 24 years until moving to Centerville in 1997.
She was active in the New Canaan Congregational Church and West Parish Congregational Church of Barnstable.
She was a member of the New York Teachers Association; the American Association of University Women; and the Barnstable Investment Club.
She was an avid reader, and enjoyed world travel with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Nancy H. Morris of Trumbull, Conn., and Barbara H. Thorstad of North Reading; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at West Parish Congregational Church in West Barnstable.
