Mary J. Morrison, 86

Hyannis - Mary J. Morrison, 86, of Hyannis, died May 28, 2001, in Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.
She was born in Newton, and attended Newton High School. She worked many years for the telephone company and at Libby Printing Co.
She also lived for many years in Auburn, where she was an accountant at H.C. Pond Lumber Co.
She retired to Centerville in 1988.
Known to all as "Auntie," she leaves four nieces, Bobbi Paradise and Cathy Carpenter, both of Centerville, Terre Labaire of Falmouth, and Beth Labaire of Florida; and eight great-nieces and two great-nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.

Jean J. Pino, 87

Somerville ­Jean J. (LaCarbonara) Pino of Somerville, 87, died June 3, 2001, at Youville Hospital in Cambridge.
She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Pino.
A lifelong Somerville resident, she attended local schools for 12 years and was also a graduate of Wilfred Academy Hairdressing School. She was a hairdresser for 65 years and a beautician at Jean's Beauty Salon in Somerville.
Mrs. Pina is survived by three sons, Anthony of Somerville, Ronald of Acton and Joseph Pino of Centerville; two nephews; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Clement Church in Somerville, with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.

Sylvia G. Sklarew, 73

Hyannis - Sylvia G. (Gordon) Sklarew, 73, a resident of Hyannis, died May 26, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Sklarew was born in New Haven, Conn., and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in biology. She was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority.
In addition to residing in Hyannis, she had also lived in New London, Conn., Albany, N.Y., and Menlo Park, Calif. She was an excellent cook and hostess and enjoyed taking care of her children. She volunteered many hours at the synagogue and other organizations. She was also an avid bridge player.
Surviving are two sons, Paul R. Sklarew of West Barnstable and Brad E. Sklarew of Beverly Hills, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter St., Hyannis, MA 02601.

Donald E. 'Snuffy' Souza, 64

Osterville - Donald E. "Snuffy" Souza, 64, a resident of Osterville and a native Cape Codder, died May 30, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Judy E. (Brady) Souza.
Mr. Souza was born in Hyannis and was a 1954 graduate of Barnstable High School.
He was an operator of heavy construction equipment before becoming a firefighter.
Mr. Souza was a firefighter for 31 years. He started out as a call firefighter in 1965 and became a permanent member of the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department in 1966. He achieved the position of captain in 1974, and retired in 1997 after being injured in a fire. He served on the scholarship committee and was chairman of the clambake committee, an officer of the union, a member of the board of directors, and a founding member of Local 2346, International Association of Fire Fighters.
He also was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Dawn M. Donovan of Centerville; three sons, Gary John Souza of Santuit, Peter P. Souza of Windsor, Conn., and Edward B. Souza of Centerville; a brother, Frederick Souza of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Osterville Fire Station.
Memorial donations may be made to Cape Head Injured Persons Housing, 9 Park Ave., Centerville, MA 02632.

Kathleen F. Steben, 75

Osterville - Kathleen F. (Matsen) Steben, 75, of Osterville, died May 25, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of John C. Steben.
Mrs. Steben was born in Bridgeport, Conn., and raised and educated in Fairfield, Conn. She was a graduate of Roger Ludlow High School.
After completing her education, Mrs. Steben resided in Bridgeport for a number of years. She then lived in Easton, Conn., for 30 years, where she was a volunteer teacher's aide at the Easton Middle School. She moved back to Bridgeport and worked as a manager for A.C. Nielson.
Mrs. Steben moved to Osterville in 1984. She had most recently worked as a clerk at BankBoston on Cape Cod. She was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting dollhouse miniatures.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Jill Caputi of Monroe, Conn.; a sister, Anne Girouard of West Boylston; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert V. Brumfield, Sr.

Harker Heights, Tex. - Robert Vernon Brumfield Sr., a resident of Harker Heights and formerly of Hyannis, died May 31, 2001, in Killeen, Tex.
He was the husband of Gloria Brumfield.
Mr. Brumfield was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
He was a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Dennis F. Thomas Post 2578 of Hyannis.
Besides his wife, he is survived by six children, Robert V. Brumfield Jr. of Staten Island, N.Y., Bart Brumfield of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Ronald Brumfield, Brett Brumfield, Denise Powell and Dianne Gauthier, all of Marstons Mills; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral service was held in Tylertown, Miss.

Neil Dexter Cobb, 31

South Yarmouth - Neil Dexter Cobb, 31, a resident of South Yarmouth and a native Cape Codder, died June 4, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Cobb was born in Hyannis and grew up in Dennis and Yarmouth. He was a 1988 graduate of Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich and had worked for the last 15 years for Star Market in South Yarmouth.
He was a computer and wrestling enthusiast, and a music lover who had helped local hands with their setup and breakdown at performances.
He is survived by his parents, Harold F. "Buzzie" and Carol (Smith) Cobb of South Yarmouth; his maternal grandmother, Claire D. Smith of Yarmouthport; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral was held at Hallett Funeral Home in South Yarmouth. Burial was private.
Memorial donations may be made to Cerebral Palsy Winter Weekend, c/o Jerry Mossey, 224 Long Pond Drive, South Yarmouth, MA 02564; or to the charity of one's choice.

Lulu Dougherty, 106

Hyannis - Lulu (McCullough) Dougherty, 106, of Hyannis, died May 31, 2001, at the home of her daughter, where she had lived for the past year and a half.
She was the wife of the late Erwin F. Dougherty.
Mrs. Dougherty was born, raised and educated in Canada. She moved to the United States and married in 1920. She moved to Waltham, where she worked at the Waltham Watch Factory for several years before raising her family. She lived in Waltham and in West Rupert, Vt., for many years until moving to Hyannis to live with her daughter.
Mrs. Dougherty was a lifetime member of Pythians Sisters Lodge in Waltham. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles and board games. She enjoyed knitting, quilting and crafts, which she made for many church fairs. She had a love for animals and world travel. She celebrated her 105th birthday on the fast ferry to Nantucket, which she enjoyed but wished the seas were a bit rougher. Her 106th birthday was celebrated with an open house attended by many. She always believed that her zest for life and accomplishment in living during three centuries was due to being raised on homegrown vegetables and home cooking.
Surviving are two sons, Francis Dougherty of Garden City, S.C., and Paul Dougherty of West Rupert, Vt.; four daughters, Iris Flynn of Hyannis, with whom she lived, Olive Edmands of Port Orange, Fla., Pearl Everhart of Surfside Beach, S.C., and June Feeley of Port Orange, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two nieces and a nephew.
A funeral was held at Immanuel Methodist Church of Waltham. Burial followed in Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.
A memorial service was held at the Federated Church of Hyannis.
