Edward H. White , 94

Centerville - Edward H. White , 94, retired treasurer of Cape Cod Bank and Trust, died Tuesday Sept. 25, 2001 at Cape Regency in Centerville after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Mildred (Cole) White since 1945.
Mr. White was born in Barnstable and graduated in 1926 from Barnstable High School, where he played varsity football and baseball.
He was a longtime resident of Centerville, having moved there in 1945.
After graduating from high school, he went to work as a bookkeeper at Hyannis Trust Co., which later became Cape Cod Bank and Trust. He rose to the position of manager of the Osterville branch and retired as treasurer of Cape Cod Bank and Trust in 1972.
During World War II, Mr. White served with the 237th Army Air Force.
He was a member of the South Congregational Church in Centerville; a charter member of the Centerville Civic Association; a member of the Fraternal Lodge AF&AM in Centerville; and a charter member of the Cape Cod Flying Club, which was disbanded due to World War II.
Besides his wife of 55 years, he is survived by E. Marcus White of the Virgin Islands, Thomas White of Centerville, Robert M. Grant of Nantucket and Bonnie Dumville of South Royalton, Vt.; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Jonathan R. White .
Burial was private.
A celebration of his life was held at South Congregational Church, Main Street, Centerville.

Philip G. Brackett, 83

Cotuit - Philip G. Brackett, 83, a native and longtime resident of Cotuit, died Sept. 29, 2001, at his home after a long illness.
He was the husband of Alma (Westberg) Brackett.
Mr. Brackett was born in Cotuit. He graduated from Barnstable High School as well as the Boston Diesel Engineering School.
During World War II, he worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Hartford, Conn. Returning to the Cape in 1949, he went to work for the Chevrolet dealership in Hyannis, where he remained an employee for 40 years.
Mr. Brackett was also a cranberry grower and owned a cranberry bog at Santuit Pond in Mashpee. He was an avid fisherman, a Mason, a member of the Vasa Vinland Lodge and a past master of the Mariners Lodge.
He served as a deacon at the Cotuit Federated Church and was also a member of the Osterville Men's Club.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Joyce B. Moore of Osterville and Cheryl B. Martin of Birmingham, Ala.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A memorial service was held at the Cotuit Federated Church. Burial was private.

Jean E. Casey, 51

Melrose - Jean E. (Marino) Casey, 51, a former Centerville resident, died of breast cancer Oct. 1, 2001, at Winchester Hospital.
She was the wife of Stephen E. Casey.
Born in Hartford, Conn., she graduated from Farmington High School in 1968 and attended College of Misericordia in Pennsylvania .
Mrs. Casey lived in Melrose for the past 18 years and before that in Centerville for 16 years. While on the Cape, she worked at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis for many years. She later went to work at Malden Hospital & Hallmark Health as a cardio sonographer for many years. Most recently she started her own hat-making business called Lizabeth's Garden Hats. A longtime member of the Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose, she also enjoyed cooking, photography and traveling.
Surviving besides her husband are her parents, Guido and Elizabeth (Wood) Marino of Farmington, Conn.; a brother, Michael J. Marino of Farmington, Conn.; a sister, Melinda Morrissette of Granby, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at The Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Farmington, Conn.

Jutta E. Graupner, 49

East Harwich - Jutta E. (Schmitt) Graupner, 49, a resident of East Harwich, died unexpectedly Sept. 29, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of Werner Graupner.
Mrs. Graupner was born, raised and educated in Germany. She moved to East Harwich from Germany in 1993. She worked for Filene's department store in Hyannis in various capacities and most recently worked at The Wayside Gallery II in Chatham.
Mrs. Graupner was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Harwich. She enjoyed interior design.
Surviving besides her husband are a son, Daniel Buschmann of Leipzig, Germany; a brother, George Schmitt of Spain; and a sister, Bridgett Hammel of Leipzig, Germany.
A funeral service and burial will take place in Leipzig, Germany.
Memorial donations may be made to the Harwich Rescue Squad, 183 Sisson Road, Harwich, MA 02645; or the Cape Cod Hospital Foundation, 4 Bayview Road, Hyannis, MA 02601.

Eleanor Horgan, 95

Centerville - Eleanor (Norwood) Horgan, 95, of Centerville died Oct. 4, 2001, at her home.
She was the wife of Frank L. Horgan Sr., who died in 1987.
Born in Springfield, Mrs. Horgan graduated from North High School in Worcester, and from the Worcester Museum School of Art in 1928.
She moved to Centerville in 1936, where she and her husband raised their family. A talented artist and knitter, she taught for many years.
Surviving are a son, Frank L. Horgan Jr. of Centerville; two daughters, Mary Ellen Hoover of Sudbury and Dianne James of Hyannisport; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a niece.
A funeral was held at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis. Burial followed in Beechwood Cemetery in Centerville.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675; or to the Centerville-Osterville Fire Department, Route 28, Centerville, MA 02632.

Pamela M. Nesbit, 48

Hope Valley, R.I. - Pamela M. (Bonney) Nesbit, 48, formerly of Hyannis, died Oct. 4, 2001, at South County Hospital in Wakefield, R.I., after a brief illness.
Born in Hyannis, she was a graduate of Barnstable High School, class of 1971.
Mrs. Nesbit was a resident counselor for Bridges Inc. of Jamestown, R.I.
A resident of Rhode Island for the past 10 years, she lived in Hope Valley for three years where she was an active member with the New Hope Chapel in Wyoming, R.I.
Mrs. Nesbit is survived by two sons, Nicholas Bonney of San Francisco and Daniel Nesbit of Hope Valley, R.I.; her mother, Phyllis (DeForest) Bonney of East Bridgewater; one sister, Deborah A. Taylor, also of East Bridgewater; two nephews and four cousins.
A graveside service was held in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to New Hope Chapel, Box 37, Wyoming, RI 02908.

Barbara Phillips, 49

West Yarmouth - Barbara Brigham Phillips, 49, a resident of West Yarmouth, died of pulmonary hypertension Sept. 29, 2001, at her home.
She was the mother of Megan Lowell Phillips of West Yarmouth.
Born in Hartford, Conn., she was a graduate of the Art Institute of Boston.
She was a manager for TMP Computer Center in Hyannis.
Besides her daughter, she is survived by her father, Deane H. Phillips of Wolfeboro, N.H.; a sister, Wendy Blum of Cambridge; and two nephews.
A memorial service was held at Hallett Funeral Home in South Yarmouth. Burial was private.
Memorial donations may be made to Animal Rescue League of Boston, Route 6A, Brewster, MA 02631.

Robert W. Syvanen, 95

St. Petersburg, Fla. - Robert W. Syvanen, 95, a longtime resident of West Barnstable, died Oct. 2, 2001, in St. Petersburg, where he had lived for the past 10 months.
He was the husband of Ann (Anderson) Syvanen, who died in 1995.
Mr. Syvanen was born in Allston and lived and attended school in Quincy, before moving to New York City.
He moved to West Barnstable as a self-employed carpenter, and built his own home there in 1950. He was an avid fisherman and gardener, and liked to play bridge. He won many trophies as a bowler in the Men's League of Hyannis.
Survivors include a son, Robert W. Syvanen Jr. of Brewster and St. Petersburg; and three grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held in summer 2002 on Cape Cod.
