Birgitta E. El-Hajj, 33

Winterport, Maine - Birgitta Elisabeth (Anderson) El-Hajj, 33, who leaves family in Barnstable, died Oct. 16, 2001, in Bangor.
She was the wife of Lance M. El-Hajj.
Born in Boston, Mrs. El-Hajj graduated from Stoneybrook School, Long Island, N.Y., in 1986 and from University of Maine at Fort Kent in 1991 with a bachelor of arts degree in English. While at the University of Maine, she was class president and editor of the college newspaper.
She worked for the St. John Valley Times, writing a column titled Ma Sa Qott (Feel Good).
Mrs. El-Hajj also worked as a radio announcer for Q106.5, at Bean and Conquest, and in human resources for the past six years.
She attended Church of the Open Door in Hampden.
She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and was an accomplished photographer.
Surviving besides her husband are her parents, Martin and Irene (Hallgren) Anderson of Barnstable; four daughters, Clarissa El-Hajj, Chelsea El-Hajj, Cassandra El-Hajj and Catrina El-Hajj, all of Winterport; maternal grandparents; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral was held at Church of the Open Door in Hampden. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Winterport.
Memorial donations may be made for her daughters' education to the El-Hajj Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 703, Winterport, ME 04496.

John Ernest Frechette, 54

Hyannis - John Ernest Frechette, 54, a resident of Hyannis, died Oct. 14, 2001, at Epoch Senior Healthcare in Brewster.
Born in Worcester, Mr. Frechette lived in Freetown at the time of his graduation from Apponequet High School. He attended Southeastern Massachusetts University earning a degree in medical technology.
He was employed with Cape Cod Hospital as a technician shortly after graduation. He later opened Sai's Welding in Dennis, which was in operation for several years. More recently, Mr. Frechette worked as a home health aide.
He had resided in Dennis and Centerville prior to living in Hyannis for the past seven years.
A long time Cape Cod Hospital volunteer, Mr. Frechette was very active with the Salvation Army in Hyannis. He enjoyed sculpting with metals, photography and kayaking.
Surviving are a brother, Andrew L. Frechette of Florence; a sister, Inez Holger of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were private.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 100 North St., Hyannis, MA 02601.

Roger J. Gazzolo, 75

Hyannis - Roger J. Gazzolo, 75, a resident of Hyannis, died Oct. 13, 2001, at his home.
He was the husband of Barbara (Annis) Gazzolo of North Quincy.
Mr. Gazzolo was born and raised in Taunton.
He was a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Intrepid in World War II.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years in Quincy.
He retired and moved to Hyannis in 1990.
Mr. Gazzolo was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hyannis, Disabled American Veterans and Loyal Order of Moose in Yarmouth.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Karl Gazzolo of Braintree, David Gazzolo of West Yarmouth and Mark Gazzolo of Quincy; two daughters, Judy Miller of Dorchester and Irene Gazzolo of Braintree; and five grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville. Burial followed in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Bernice R. Goutal, 88

Gloucester - Bernice R. Goutal, 88, a former East Sandwich and Osterville resident, died of a stroke Oct. 16, 2001.
Mrs. Goutal was the wife of the late Andre Goutal, who died in 1988. They were married for 40 years.
She was born in 1912 and raised in small towns around Jamestown in western New York.
Mrs. Goutal graduated from the Chicago School of Nursing in 1938, but decided to pursue other careers. Among her various enterprises, she ran a stationery/ice cream store and a jewelry/flower shop. She also performed time management studies in a munitions factory during World War II.
During the 1950s, Mrs. Goutal traveled around the country as a beauty consultant for Revlon.
Active in the Osterville Baptist Church, she was known as a great cook who loved travel and geography.
She is survived by a daughter, Paulette Boyd of Norcross, Ga.; two sons, Richard Goutal of Manchester-by-the-Sea and Kenneth Goutal of Medway; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two sisters, Nina Myers of Randolph, N.Y., and Jean Hicks of Edgewater, Md.; and a brother, Irvin Crawford of Duncanville, Texas .
A memorial service was conducted at the Osterville Baptist Church.

Christine M. Kealy, 21

Salem - Christine M. Kealy, 21, a former resident of Hyannis, died unexpectedly Oct. 17, 2001.
She was the daughter of Peter Kealy of Lowell and the late Paula Jean (Kosek) Sullivan.
Born in Salem and raised in Hyannis, Miss Kealy was educated in the Salem and Hyannis school systems.
She had been employed as a chef at the Little Italy restaurant in Beverly for the past two years.
In addition, she was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Salem.
Surviving besides her father are her grandparents, Walter and Lucy (Morin) Kosek of Salem, with whom she resided; two brothers, John D. Sullivan III and Patrick P. Kealy, both of Hyannis; her step-father, John D. Sullivan Jr. of Hyannis; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Salem with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery there.

Alfred F. 'Al' Urenas, 77

West Barnstable - Alfred F. "Al" Urenas, 77, a resident of West Barnstable, died Oct. 16, 2001, unexpectedly at his home.
He was the husband of Gloria M. (Hall) Urenas of Brockton.
Born in Brockton, he was an Army veteran, serving in Germany during World War II.
Mr. Urenas served on the Brockton Police Department for 20 years. He also was the owner of Baystate Pest Control in Brockton.
He was a member of the Brockton Police and Firefighters Association, Massachusetts Police Association, Retired State Municipal Employees Association, and Whitman Chapter #119 D.A.V. He was also a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Robert A. Urenas of Mashpee, David A. Urenas of Brockton and Richard A. Urenas of Easton; two daughters, Maribeth Desley of Centerville and Maureen Jones of Barnstable; and five grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville. Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Memorial donations may be made to the Barnstable County Deputy Sheriffs Association, P.O. Box 835, Barnstable, MA 02632.

Oliver H. Washington Sr., 66

Hyannis - Oliver H. Washington Sr., 66, of Hyannis, died Oct. 19, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Cabral) Washington .
Mr. Washington was born and raised in Hyannis, where he was a lifelong resident and graduated from Barnstable High School.
He worked for Hayden Building and Moving Co. for more than 25 years, until his retirement. Mr. Washington was a member of the Federated Church in Hyannis.
Surviving are a son, Brian K. Washington of Centerville; three daughters, Deborah L. Brooks of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Donna M. Hart and Tracey J. Souza, both of Hyannis; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis. Burial was private.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 115 West Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02401.
