William L. Addams, 82

Hyannis - William L. Addams, 82, a resident of Hyannis, died Dec. 23, 2001.
He was the husband of Marilyn Jane (Proule) Addams for 35 years.
Mr. Addams was from California and Massachusetts, and lived a good part of his life in Brockton. He retired to Hyannis with his wife in 1984.
Mr. Addams was a self-employed carpenter who enjoyed working with his hands and building anything. He enjoyed gardening and the time he spent with his grandson. He loved his friends at the Sandwich Day-Care Program and enjoyed playing the piano for them.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Melody Walker of Hyannis; and a grandson.
A funeral was held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis.

Dr. Everett Bentley Baker, 79

Barnstable - Dr. Everett Bentley Baker, 79, a resident of Barnstable, died Dec. 15, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community - Pavilion in Hyannis after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Catherine (Peterson) Baker.
Born in Lowell, and raised and educated in Lynn, Dr. Baker served as a combat medic in World War II. He spent 26 years in the military, both active and reserve, serving in the Army, Navy, Marines, Merchant Marine and National Guard until retiring from the Air Force as a colonel in 1982. Among the many medals and awards he received were the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
Dr. Baker received bachelor of science, master's and doctor of medicine degrees from Tufts University and did his surgical residency at Yale New Haven Hospital.
He served as clinical professor at Yale University and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Baker was in surgical practice for 10 years in Branford, Conn., and for the following 15 years practiced emergency medicine. He was the founding father of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Emergency Medicine and he established the first emergency medicine residency program at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland.
Dr. Baker was the commander of the 21st Medical Service Squad at Westover Air Force Base.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Mark Baker of Delray Beach, Fla., Scott Baker of Chester, Conn., and Andrew Baker of Mobile, Ala.; two daughters, Corrine Baker of Clinton, Conn., and Christianne Baker of Taunton; and four grandchildren.
He was also the father of the late Everett B. Baker III.
A funeral was held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis.
Burial with military honors followed. in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
A memorial service was held at Barnstable Unitarian Church.

Virginia Bowen, 94

Hyannis - Virginia Bowen, 94, a native Cape Codder, died Nov. 27, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community following a long illness.
Ms. Bowen was born in Hyannis and lived in the same house for more than 92 years until moving to Whitehall Pavillion to make her home. She was a graduate of Barnstable High School.
She was employed as a bookkeeper most of her life, working for Warren Buick car dealers of Hyannis for many years. Most of her life was dedicated to being of service to others who were in need.
Private graveside services were held at the family burial plot in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hyannis.
Memorial donations may be made to the Federated Church of Hyannis.

Eleanor M. Brennan, 68

West Barnstable - Eleanor M. (Hooper) Brennan, 68, a resident of West Barnstable, died Dec. 22, 2001, in her home after a brief illness with cancer.
She was the wife of John E. Brennan.
Born and raised in Boston and Belmont, Mrs. Brennan attended Holy Cross Academy before moving to Canton in 1965. Five years ago, she moved to West Barnstable.
She was a flight attendant for Northeast/Delta airlines for many years and, after her retirement, worked as a food demonstrator in the Cape area for Boar's Head Meats.
Mrs. Brennan was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Manor Nursing Home in Brockton as a health aide and crafts associate. She was a member of the Ponkapoag Civic Association, Canton Garden Club and St. Gerard Majella Altar Guild, preparing flowers for Sunday and holiday celebrations. She was also the decorations chairwoman for the town of Canton's 175 anniversary ball and for Father William Coen's 50th ordination party.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Sheila C. Brennan of Belchertown; three sisters, Margaret M. Hurley of Connecticut, Jean A. Krapol of Bellingham and Claire B. Richmond of Hanover; and a brother, William G. Hooper of Lexington.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton.
Burial was in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675; or to the Canton Garden Club Scholarship Fund c/o Pam Gaughan, 1441 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.

Robert G. Brown, 45

Yarmouthport - Robert G. Brown, 45, a Yarmouthport resident who ran a private law practice in Hyannis, died Dec. 17, 2001, of cancer.
He was the husband of Margaret (Holler) Brown.
Mr. Brown was born in Boston and raised and educated in Hyannis.
He was a graduate of Barnstable High School, Cape Cod Community College, Northeastern University and Suffolk University School of Law.
Mr. Brown operated a private law practice in Hyannis. He was the former legal counsel for the Barnstable Conservation Foundation, Hyannis Fire District, Cotuit Fire District and Massachusetts Department of Correction.
He was also the former director of the Barnstable Conservation Foundation.
A former member of the Barnstable Town Meeting and the Barnstable Charter Commission, he also served on the Barnstable Planning Commission as the youngest member ever elected to that board.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Massachusetts Academic Trial Attorneys, Barnstable County Bar Association and Phi Alpha Delta.
He served as legal counsel for the Old King's Highway Historic District Commission and the West Barnstable Fire District and did legal editing for Lexis-Nexis Co.
He was also a 26-year employee of the Cape Cod Times.
Surviving besides his wife are his mother, Ida (Roherty) Brown of Hyannis; a son, Matthew A. Brown of Yarmouthport; and three sisters, Toni Robertson of Sandwich, Sandy Scudder of Hyannis and Lorri Cabral of Hyannis.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.
Burial followed at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Hyannis.

Sterling C. Bush, 87

Falmouth, Maine - Sterling Champ Bush, 87, formerly of Cotuit, died Dec. 24, 2001, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after an eight-month struggle with kidney failure.
He was the husband of Merle Joan Greenwood, who died in 1966.
Col. Bush was born in Dallas, Texas . He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served in Australia during World War II. After the war, he served in Greece as part of the American Mission to Aid Greece in 1948 and 1949, and in Izmir, Turkey, as part of NATO forces from 1956 to 1960. He instructed at the Army War College at Fort Monmouth and retired as inspector general of the Signal Corps in 1962.
He worked in the Washington , D.C., area during much of his military service, and then was a resident of Cotuit for 19 years before moving to Falmouth, Maine, two years ago.
After his military career, Col. Bush worked as a computer executive for the Burroughs Corp. in Paoli, Pa.
He was an avid lifelong fisherman, fishing the Chesapeake Bay and Vineyard Sound for striped bass, blues and crabs. He devoted much of his time during the last 20 years to caring for his handicapped son Robbie.
He is survived by five sons, Dennis Bush of San Clemente, Calif., Graeme Bush of Washington , D.C., Jay Bush of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Greg Bush of Cotuit and Robert Bush of Falmouth, Maine; and six grandchildren.
Burial will be Jan. 7 in Arlington National Cemetery.

Barbara A. Conroy, 78

Providence, R.I. - Barbara A. (Tierney) Conroy, 78, a former Barnstable resident, died Dec. 16, 2001, at Elmhurst Extended Care Facility in Providence.
Born in Providence, Mrs. Conroy lived in Barnstable for 10 years, returning to Providence in 1997.
In the late 1960s and 1970s, she was the owner of the Jobi Shops, women's intimate apparel shops. At one time, she had stores in Wayland Square, Garden City and Barrington in Rhode Island. Later, she was a consultant for several companies specializing in surgical and mastectomy needs.
In 1987, she retired to the Cape, where she started Barbara Conroy Ltd., an intimate apparel shop in Osterville, and later in the Regency Plaza in Providence. She retired again in 1999.
She was a former member of the Garden Club of Barnstable.
Surviving are three sons, Paul A. Conroy of Warwick, Mark C. Conroy of Cranston and Joseph L. Conroy of Durham, Conn.; a daughter, Ann A. Conroy of Providence; a sister, Marjorie Garvey of Pawtucket; and six grandchildren.
She was also the mother of the late Richard Lavallee.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Joseph Church in Providence.

Mary H. Coyle, 87

Hyannis - Mary Helen (Ferlazzo) Coyle, 87, a resident of Hyannis and formerly of Newton, died Dec. 25, 2001, at the home of her friends, Kelly and Henry Hewitt in Hyannis.
She was the wife of the late Alexander Coyle.
Born and educated in Newton, Mrs. Coyle received her licensed practical nurse degree from Chicago School of Nursing.
Mrs. Coyle was a nurse in several hospitals in the Boston area and worked for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Massachusetts for more than 25 years in the medical claims department.
A longtime resident of Newton, she was a Hyannis resident for the last 15 years.
She was active with the Newton Senior Citizens and the Barnstable Senior Center.
Surviving are a brother, William Federico of Framingham; three sisters, Anna McGuire of Newton, Teresa Palmer of Florida and Dorothy Davis of Rockland; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Sacred Heart Church in Newton.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury.

Dorothy D. Flemming, 70

Centerville - Dorothy Donovan Flemming, 70, a resident of Centerville, died Dec. 26, 2001, at her home.
She was the wife of Francis J. "Frank" Flemming.
Born in Dedham, Mrs. Flemming graduated from Dedham High and attended Boston Children's School of Nursing. She earned a bachelor of science degree from Rutgers University, College of Nursing, and a master of science in nursing from Seton Hall University College of Nursing.
She spent the last 50 years in nursing, ending her career as the executive director and CEO of the New Jersey State Nurses Association.
After retirement, she was a volunteer for Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod.
She was also a student of the Academy of Lifelong Learning at Cape Cod Community College.
She loved gardening.
Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Francis J. Flemming of Doylestown, Pa., John P. Flemming of Lambertville, N.J., and Kevin C. Flemming of Whitehouse Station, N.J.; a daughter, Maura Flemming White of Hopkinton; four brothers, Robert Donovan of East Falmouth, Pat Donovan Burns of Bellingham, Charles Donovan of Wayland and Francis Donovan of Chicago; three sisters, Mary Donovan Sweeney of Franklin, Eleanor Donovan Palma of Dedham and Kathy Donovan Feldman of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Nantucket.

Katherine M. Gomes, 89

Centerville - Katherine M. (Piper) Gomes, 89, a Centerville resident, died Dec. 18, 2001, at Cape Regency Nursing Home in Centerville.
She was the wife of the late Emanuel Gomes.
Born in New Bedford, Mrs. Gomes was raised in Mashpee and graduated from Falmouth High School. She attended college in Maine, later returning home to Mashpee.
She was a homemaker for many years and lived in Bridgeport, Conn. for many years.
Mrs. Gomes moved to Osterville in the mid-1950s and lived in Santuit for a number of years before moving to Centerville in the 1960s.
She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and spending time with her family.
Surviving are a daughter, Lolita Hammond of Centerville; two sisters, Edna Peters of Mashpee and Hazel Pocknett of Wareham; a grandson; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville.
Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Osterville.
