Leroy S. Nathan, 73

Hyannis - Leroy S. Nathan, 73, a resident of Hyannis, died Jan. 19, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital.
He was married to Rose (Horr) Nathan for 50 years.
Mr. Nathan was born, raised and educated in New York City.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 13 years until becoming a retail salesman for W.T. Grant's and Caldor department stores in Peekskill, N.Y.
Mr. Nathan moved to Cape Cod in 1972 and worked for Zayre's department store in Hyannis, then opened his own antiques shop in Hyannis, which he ran until his retirement.
He was a member of the Cape Cod Synagogue in Hyannis and was active in L'am.
He was also a member of the National Guard for eight years and enjoyed lamp building, cooking and antiques. In addition to his wife, Mr. Nathan is survived by a daughter, Helene S. Baker of West Yarmouth; a sister, Roberta Reiter of Harrison, N.Y.; and two nephews.
A funeral was held at Cape Cod Synagogue in Hyannis. Burial followed in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.

Barry Plunkett, 70

Hyannisport - Barry Plunkett, 70, a resident of Boston and Hyannisport, died Jan. 18, 2002, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston
He was the husband of Elizabeth (Moore) Plunkett, who died in 1997.
Mr. Plunkett was born in Boston, lived in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1948. He attended Harvard College and Oblate College and received his juris doctor degree from Boston College Law School in 1958.
The Plunketts moved to Beverly Farms in 1960, to Lynnfield in 1964 and to Manchester-by-the-Sea in 1977. They had been summer residents of Hyannisport since 1968.
A prominent North Shore attorney, Mr. Plunkett had been in private practice since 1958. He had trial experience in the Supreme Judicial Court, Superior Court and Land Court.
Mr. Plunkett was the past president of the Massachusetts Association of Bank Counsel, past president of the Essex County Conveyancers Association and a member of the Massachusetts, Essex County and Salem Bar Association. He represented many banks and developers in all aspects of land acquisition, permitting, construction and disposition of real estate.
He was a member of the Board of Regents of Catholic University of America, a director of the North Shore Catholic Charities in Lynn and was active in many social and community organizations. He was a corporator of the Danvers Savings bank and a trustee of the North Shore Medical Center.
Mr. Plunkett was a member of the Hyannis Yacht Club, the Hyannisport Club and the Salem Country Club. He was an avid sailor, golfer and skier.
He is survived by two sons, Barry Plunkett Jr. and James Paul Plunkett, both of Boston and Hyannisport; a daughter, Ellen M. Plunkett; three brothers, Gregory, Robert and Christopher Plunkett, all of Boston; a sister, Rosemary Kelly of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville. Burial followed in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Iacocca Foundation for Diabetes Research, 17 Arlington St., Boston, MA 02116 or to the Catholic Charities Appeal.

Brian C. Robinson, 29

Brick, N.J. - Brian C. Robinson, 29, a native Cape Codder, died Jan. 13, 2002, at Brick Hospital.
He was the husband of Michele (Oraboni) Robinson.
Born in Hyannis, Mr. Robinson was a systems specialist for Prudential in Holmdel for four years.
He lived on Cape Cod before moving to Brick eight years ago.
Mr. Robinson was a member of the golf team at Prudential Corp., Holmdel. He was both a coach and player for the Brick Recreation Softball League, and a member of Epiphany Roman Catholic Church in Brick. He was also an organ donor.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Carol Heddy of Florida; a brother, Frederick Robinson of New Hampshire; four sisters, Jamin Butts of Pennsylvania and Carol McManus, Barbara Robinson and MaryLou Robinson, all of Massachusetts; an aunt; and an uncle.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Epiphany Roman Catholic Church in Brick.

Evelyn C. Spooner, 75

Barnstable - Evelyn C. (Cobb) Spooner, 75, a resident of Barnstable, died Jan. 16, 2002, at Leonard Morse Medical Center in Natick after a long illness with emphysema.
She was the wife of the late Orin E. Spooner.
Mrs. Spooner was a retired registered nurse and a graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a partner with her husband in the motel business for 20 years. The Hyannis Motel was their last business together. She and her husband summered on the Cape for many years, moving to the Cape full time in 1967 from Arlington.
Her proudest accomplishments were her three children.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol A. Spooner of Barnstable and Julie S. Stallings of Millis; a son, Stephen O. Spooner of Marshfield; and four grandchildren.
A funeral was held at John-Lawrence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills.
Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.

Gertrude M. Staples, 91

Hyannis - Gertrude M. (Bowen) Staples, 91, a resident of Hyannis, died Jan. 11, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of the late John Staples Sr.
Born in Springfield, Mrs. Staples was a longtime resident of Springfield, where she graduated from Cathedral High School.
Surviving are two nephews, Martin J. Bowen of East Longmeadow and Tom Korman of Belchertown; and a niece, Sandra Waldron of Springfield.
A liturgy of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Michael's Church in East Longmeadow, with burial following in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Massachusetts 01701.

John D. 'Jack' Walo, 64

Marstons Mills - John D. "Jack" Walo, 64, a resident of Marstons Mills, died Jan. 17, 2002, following an illness.
He was the husband of the late Joy Darlene (Walburn) Walo.
Mr. Walo was born in West Barnstable, grew up in Marstons Mills and attended Marstons Mills and Barnstable schools.
He entered the Marine Corps following high school and served for six years during the Korean conflict. After serving in the military, Mr. Walo returned to Marstons Mills. He was a shellfisherman for many years until retiring due to illness. He enjoyed baseball, football and shellfishing.
Surviving are his parents, John V. and Marion C. (Bearse) Walo of Marstons Mills; and a sister, Judith Walo of Bristol, Conn.
A graveside service will be held Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. in Beechwood Cemetery in Centerville.

Harriet R. Cabot, 94

Cotuit - Harriet (Ropes) Cabot, 94, a longtime resident of Cotuit, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002 at her home.
She was the wife of Edward Cabot of Boston.
Born in Cambridge, Mrs. Cabot lived in Cambridge and Boston after college. She graduated from the Winsor School in Boston and from Bryn Mawr College.
Mrs. Cabot was a well-known figure in the community, partly because of her prodigious memory of Cotuit history, past and present, and was often interviewed by people researching the history of the community and of Cape Cod in general.
She summered at her family's house in Cotuit since childhood and moved there year-round after her retirement.
During her marriage, she spent several summers in New Mexico. She was active in the Cotuit Historical Society, the Cotuit Federated Church and the Cahoon Museum.
For more than 20 years, she loaned her beach to the Cotuit Mosquito Yacht Club for use in its sailing and racing programs.
In Boston, Mrs. Cabot was also well-regarded as a local historian. She was curator of the Old State House museum from 1957 to 1977 and was author of the handbook of the Bostonian Society.
She served on the board of the Cambridge Historical Society and was a member of the Beacon Hill Architectural Commission. She had been a member of the Chilton Club and the Massachusetts chapter of the Colonial Dames of America and was a proprietor of the Boston Athenaeum.
Surviving are three nieces, Sally Ropes Hinkle, Ann Ropes Flather and Nina Ropes; a great-nephew; a great-niece; and many cousins.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the Cotuit Federated Church, School Street, Cotuit.
Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.

Faith Carr, 87

Hyannis - Faith (Findlay) Carr, 87, a resident of Hyannis, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002 at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Pavilion in Hyannis.
She was the wife of the late Kenyon A. Carr for 51 years.
Mrs. Carr was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and later moved to Taunton, where she graduated from Taunton High School in 1932.
She worked as a lab technician at the Foxboro State Hospital after high school, then worked for L.G. Beers Jewelers in Taunton. She and her husband established Kenyon A. Carr Jewelers in Hyannis in 1946 and her association with the business continued until her retirement in the early 1970s.
Mrs. Carr was a member of the Federated Church of Hyannis for more than 50 years and was active in the Women's Fellowship and Couple's Clubs.
Surviving are a son, William F. Carr of West Barnstable; a daughter, Janice Carr Emrich of Osterville; a brother, Hugh C. Findlay of Hyannis; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at the Federated Church of Hyannis on Main Street. Burial was private.
