James Turner Duane, 81

Cincinnati - James Turner Duane, 81, a resident of Cincinnati and formerly of West Hyannisport, died Wednesday Jan. 2, 2002.
He was the husband of Jeanne (Hagan) Duane for 56 years.
Mr. Duane was born in Cambridge and graduated from Boston College with a degree in chemistry in 1943.
He served in the Marines during World War II. After the war, he married his college sweetheart.
A chemical engineer, he co-founded Contour Chemical Co. in Woburn, where he worked until he retired in 1981.
He and his wife lived for many years in Needham, where their six children were born. They then moved to Cape Cod, where he lived for more than 20 years in West Hyannisport.
Mr. Duane was an avid golfer and a member of the Hyannisport and Oyster Harbors Golf Clubs. In 1988, he and his wife moved to Florida and settled in Naples. In 2000, they moved to Cincinnati.
Surviving are two sons, Jim Duane of Cincinnati and Jon Duane of Atherton, Calif.; four daughters, Carol Olson of Cincinnati, Janis DeMambro of Concord, Joan Duane of Boston and Beth McCurdy of Brightwaters, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a nephew; two nieces; and 10 greatnieces and great-nephews.
A funeral was held at St. Ignatius Church, Chestnut Hill.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242-8922; or to Boston College.

Margaret E. Griffin, 81

Centerville - Margaret E. (Byrne) Griffin, 81, of Centerville, formerly of Falmouth and Clearwater, Fla., died Tuesday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of the late James P. Griffin.
Born in Newton, Mrs. Griffin graduated from Our Lady High School in Newton and Framingham State College. She earned a graduate degree from Boston College.
She was a director of Child Guidance Clinics with the Department of Mental Health and was the first woman professor at Boston College.
Surviving are 16 nieces and nephews; and 29 grandnieces and grandnephews.
A funeral Mass was held Saturday in St. Ignatius Church at Boston College. A reception followed at Walsh Hall at Boston College.
Burial is in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.

Robert P. Neff, 81

Naples - Robert "Bob" P. Neff, 81, a resident of Naples, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002 at his winter home in Naples with his wife by his side.
He was the husband of Joan "Joanie" Neff for 13 years and the late Mildred Neff for 40 years.
He arrived in Naples on Jan. 20 and succumbed to leukemia on Jan. 22.
Born in Five Points, Pa., he was one of 13 children of which nine are still living.
He raised his family in Belmont, and retired to Centerville and Naples after working in the corrugated box industry as a salesman and product developer for 40 years.
Mr. Neff entered the Army in February 1941, was chosen for the O.S.S., where he served as an instructor of hand to hand combat and did active duty in Ceylon, Burma, Thailand and India.
He appeared on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post, dated Feb. 20, 1943, in his combat gear. The original oil painting is hanging in the Pentagon.
Mr. Neff was a member of Oakley Country Club in Watertown for 25 years, where he was club champion in 1958 and became a golf legend throughout Massachusetts for his long ball.
He had five holes-in-one and two double eagles to his credit and was an active member at Cummaquid Golf Club on Cape Cod since 1972.
He worked at the Lely Flamingo and the Mustang in Naples for the past eight years as a starter.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Robert Neff Jr. of Fishkill, N.Y., two daughters, Janice Kaleikau of Jamul, Calif. , and Lori Konowski of Raleigh, N.C.; five grandsons; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
A memorial service will be held this spring in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Florence J. Nickerson, 76

Englewood , Fla. - Florence J. (Steadman) Nickerson, 76, a resident of Englewood and formerly of Hyannis, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002 at her home.
Born in Brockton, Mass., she was a registered nurse for many years and worked at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis for more than 23 years.
After her retirement, she moved to Englewood in 1980, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign War Post 10178, American Legion Post 113 Auxiliary and BPO Does 300.
Surviving are two sons, Rodney Paine of Englewood and Richard Bowen of Pocasset.
There were no local services.
Burial was private in Beechwood Cemetery, Centerville.

Walter F. Perry, 93

Hyannis - Walter F. Perry, 93, a resident of Hyannis and formerly of Hudson, died Tuesday at Falmouth Hospital.
He was the husband of Lillian (Rago) Perry for 65 years.
Born in Newport, R.I., Mr. Perry worked at the Raytheon Co. in Sudbury, retiring in 1974. He lived in Hudson for many years before moving to Hyannis.
He was an Army veteran, serving in World War II.
Mr. Perry was a member of the Holy Ghost Society, the Hudson Portuguese Club in Hudson and the Hudson Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Norma A. Giannattasio of Marlboro; a son, Richard W. Perry of West Andover; a brother, Lery Perry of Beverly Hills, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
A funeral was held Saturday from Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St. (Route 62), Hudson, followed by a funeral Mass at Christ the King Church, 48 Central St., Hudson.
Burial was in Forestdale Cemetery.

Lynne Vance Stewart, 59

Centerville - Lynne Vance Stewart, 59, a resident of Centerville for the past five years, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002.
Born in Harlem, N.Y., she graduated from Westbury High School in 1959.
She is survived by her father and stepmother, Bernard and Victoria Stewart; a brother, Daryl Stewart; a sister, Donna Marie Stewart; two grandchildren; a cousin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Vance Thomas Faulk.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 147 Walton Ave., Hyannis.

Douglas A. Archer, 54

West Tisbury - Douglas A. Archer, 54, a resident of West Tisbury, died unexpectedly Jan. 23, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Archer, son of Sidney H. and the late Linda B. Archer, graduated from Barnstable High School in 1965. He lived in West Tisbury for the last 12 years and maintained a well-known business, Doug Archer Painting, since 1990.
Surviving besides his father are two daughters, Clover Archer of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Crina Archer of Chicago; a brother, David Archer of Boston; and his partner of 17 years, Lori Calio of West Tisbury.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Marilyn Jean Baker, 58

Hyannis - Marilyn Jean (Dranetz) Baker, 58, a resident of Hyannis, died Jan. 30, 2002, after a nearly 20-year illness with multiple sclerosis.
Mrs. Baker was born in Boston and grew up in Brookline. She was an honors student at Babson School of Business. She moved to Newton to raise her family before relocating to Cape Cod.
She is survived by a son, Ira Robert Baker of North Miami Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Benni Rose Dinisco of Houston, Texas ; a grandson; five nephews; a niece; an aunt; and an uncle.
A graveside service was held in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.

Rudolph Cesarini, 92

Hyannis - Rudolph Cesarini, 92, a resident of Hyannis and formerly of Osterville, died Jan. 30, 2002, at Windsor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in South Yarmouth.
He was the husband of Carrie Cesarini for 67 years.
Born and educated in Brockton, he lived in Brockton until retiring to Osterville in 1976. He lived in Osterville for 23 years and then moved to Hyannis, where he lived for the past two years.
He was a supervisor and quality control inspector for Armstrong World Industry Co. of South Braintree.
In 1971, he received the "Hole in One" golf award. He also received many bowling league awards. He loved music, sang and played the harmonica and guitar.
Mr. Cesarini was a member of Our Lady of Assumption in Osterville. He was active with the Sons of Italy in Brockton and volunteered for the Progressive Club and Senior Citizens Center in Hyannis.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Cesarini) Berman of Montclair, N.J.; a son, Donald J. Cesarini of Dudley and Okala, Fla.; a brother, Roland Cesarini of Brockton; a sister, Bertha Dauteuil of Plymouth; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption in Osterville.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675; or to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 3055 South St., Hyannis, MA 02601.
