John J. Burchill, 62

West Barnstable - John J. Burchill, 62, of West Barnstable, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 25, 2002 at his home.
He was the husband of Ann (Dwyer) Burchill.
Mr. Burchill was born in Boston and attended Boston College High School and St. Sebastian's Preparatory Day School. He earned a degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1961. Mr. Burchill went on to earn a juris doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1967, and served as an attorney with the Army Corps of Engineers before beginning a 33-year career with the National Park Service. During this time he served at Cape Cod National Seashore, Big Cypress National Preserve, Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks, the Lowell and Boston National Historical Parks, and the Boston African American National Historic Site.
Mr. Burchill was a member of the board of directors of A Christian Ministry in the National Parks, the Boston Marine Society and the Irish Charitable Society. One of his important contributions was the time and effort he gave to the restoration of local sites, including the African Meeting House, Dorchester Heights, Faneuil Hall, the Old State House, Old South Meeting House, and the USS Constitution Museum. His work on the restoration of Boott Mill in Lowell became a national model for adaptive reuse of an industrial structure.
Mr. Burchill worked with the late congressman Joseph Moakley to secure millions of dollars in federal funding for these projects, and he took the lead in developing educational curricula that focused on explaining historic sites, especially on the Freedom Trail. He served on the board of directors of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau and was an enthusiastic advocate of tourist site development in Boston.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Ann-Margaret Herbert of East Sandwich and Mary E. Finnemore of Norridgewock, Maine; three brothers, William of Falmouth, Richard of Bourne and Samuel of Kingston; three sisters, Virginia Shannon of Yarmouth, Joan Connors of Arlington and Mary Sheehan of Sandwich; and two granddaughters.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Church in Charlestown. Burial followed at Lothrop Hill Cemetery in Barnstable.

John Jay Carsey, 80

Brentwood, Calif. - Veteran comedy producer and writer John Jay Carsey, a supporter of the Boch Center for the Performing Arts in Mashpee, died April 5, 2002 of congestive heart failure.
Mr. Carsey and his wife, Marcy, were Cape Cod residents for a number of years.
Known for his irreverent wit, his eye for comic talent, and his generosity and kindness in helping others with their careers, Carsey spent more than 30 years in the business working with such comedy legends as Steve Allen, Jack Paar and Johnny Carson.
"When John was in the room it was always different," said friend and former Tonight Show colleague Ed McMahon. "John was the master of that one remark that cut to the chase."
Born on June 4, 1921, in New York City, Carsey made his foray into television after serving in the Navy in the North Atlantic during World War II. He started with NBC as a unit manager on The Steve Allen Show, which led to various producing duties on The Tonight Show, working initially with Allen, then Paar, and later on with Carson during his early years as host.
While on The Tonight Show, Carsey worked with comedians such as George Carlin, Richard Pryor and Flip Wilson, helping them to shape their material for The Tonight Show audience.
In 1969 he married his wife of 33 years, television producer Marcy Carsey (That '70s Show, The Cosby Show, Roseanne, 3rd Rock From The Sun), and moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as a writer on Laugh-In and several other comedy and variety shows.
Along with his wife, Carsey leaves five children: Riley, Heidi, Kyre, Rebecca and John; three grandchildren; and a sister, Jacqueline.
A celebration of Carsey's life for his family and friends, as he would want it, will take place at a later date.

William T. Corey, 94

Yarmouthport - William T. Corey, 94, of Yarmouthport, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brewster.
He was the husband of Elizabeth Mary Corey who died in 2001. They were married for 58 years.
Mr. Corey was born in Pittsburgh. He was a graduate of Carrick High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh. During World War II he served with the Army Air Corps and went on to serve with the Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1947 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Mr. Corey's career in the automobile industry included positions with Packard Motor Cars, Studebaker, Chrysler and British Leyland. Earlier in his career he studied metallurgy and worked for U.S. Steel. After his retirement from British Leyland, Mr. Corey moved to Cummaquid Heights, where he was active in the Osterville Men's Club and Cummaquid Golf Club. He served several years on the Cape Cod Consumer Assistance Council.
He lived in Hancock Village, Westwood, Hingham, Westport, Conn., and Cummaquid Heights prior to moving to Yarmouthport. He had also been an Eagle Scout, a lifeguard and a camp counselor.
Surviving are a son, Richard Corey of Flanders, N.J.; a daughter, Barbara Groves of Weston, Conn.; a sister, Eleanor C. Beyers of Newtown Square, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held in St. Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis. Interment followed in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Robert P. DeMusis Sr., 59

Hyannis - Robert P. DeMusis Sr., 59, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at Cape Cod Hospital.
Born in Springfield, Mr. DeMusis served in the Marine Corps. He settled in Hyannis in 1983 and has owned a paint and wallpaper business on Cape for 20 years.
Mr. DeMusis is survived by two sons, Robert P. DeMusis Jr. and Christopher M. DeMusis both of Springfield; his father, Anthony V. DeMusis of Springfield, and his mother Marlene (Messick) Schneider of Enfield; three brothers, Anthony V. DeMusis Jr. and David DeMusis, both of Springfield and Scott DeMusis of Westfield; two sisters, Barbara Konstanopoulos of Whately and Beverly Smith of Chicopee; and two grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at the convenience of the family.

June E. Eldridge, 76

West Hyannisport - June E. Eldridge, 76, of West Hyannisport, died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a long battle with cancer.
Miss Eldridge was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and raised in Chatham. She owned and operated June's Beauty Salon in Hyannis for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Federated Church of Hyannis, an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are a brother, Wayne E. Eldridge of Carver; a sister, Barbara L. Martin of Cotuit; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held in the Oakgrove Cemetery in Hyannis.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601; or to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02401.

Glenn Arthur King, 79

Centerville - Glenn Arthur King, 79, died April 16, 2002 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Barbara Hallett King since 1950.
Born in Troy, N.Y., he grew up in upper New York state, where he loved to swim and take canoe trips in the Adirondack Mountains. He achieved Eagle Scout while he was in high school.
In 1942, he enlisted in the Army and saw combat action in the European theater. On June 6, 1944, he took part in the D-Day assault at Omaha Beach, Normandy, France.
After the war, he attended Cornell University, graduating in 1949. After he married in 1950, he settled in Needham.
After working for Houghton-Mifflin, he became general manager of Durgin Park Market Dining Rooms in Boston, a position he held for nearly 20 years.
He retired to Centerville where he was a dedicated member of the community, actively serving the Federated Church of Hyannis and volunteering at Cape Cod Hospital. He was a Shriner, a Mason and a member of the Osterville Men's Club and the Cornell Alumni Association of Cape Cod, known at the Cape Cod Cornellians.
Mr. King received awards for swimming over 800 miles at the YMCA in West Barnstable.
An unassuming patriot, he hung "Old Glory" in front of his house every day.
Besides his wife, survivors include three children, Glenna King Outwin of Yarmouth, Maine, Lindy Lee King- Jones of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Peter H. King of Bakersfield, Vt.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. May 7 at the Federated Church of Hyannis, Main Street.

Ruth T. Leonovich, 79

Yarmouth - Ruth T. (Blackburn) Leonovich, 79, a resident of Yarmouth, died Friday, April 26, 2002 at her home.
She was the wife of George A. Leonovich Sr. for 46 years.
She was born in south Groveland and raised in Hyannisport and Centerville. She attended Barnstable schools.
Mrs. Leonovich worked for many years for Cape & Vineyard Electric Co. as a bookkeeper. After raising her family, she worked at Green Harbor on the Ocean, retiring in 2000.
Besides her husband, survivors include three daughters, Deborah L. Bryant of West Yarmouth, Donna M. Sprinkle of West Barnstable, and Judy A. Leonovich of West Yarmouth; two sons, George A. Leonovich Jr. of Marstons Mills and Stephen J. Leonovich of Centerville; a brother, Raymond Blackburn of Hyannis; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held at John-Lawrence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills.
Burial followed in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville.

Barbara F. Morrison, 80

North Attleboro - Barbara F. (IIiffe) Morrison, 80, formerly of Centerville, died Monday, April 22, 2002 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Care Center in Providence, R.I., after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late William Morrison.
Born in Boston, Mrs. Morrison grew up in South Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School. She lived for many years in Centerville on Cape Cod, before joining her daughter, son-in-law and grandson in North Attleboro, where she lived in retirement with her family for more than 10 years
A former employee of both Bass River Savings Bank and the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, Mrs. Morrison enjoyed a long and fruitful career in banking.
Survivors include her only daughter, Sharon Morrison Howard of North Attleboro; a grandson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service was held Friday in Mosswood Cemetery, Putnam Avenue, Cotuit.
