Janet E. Reilly, 87

Osterville - Janet E. (Marshall) Reilly, 87, an Osterville resident, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of the late William J. Reilly.
Born, raised and educated in Attleboro, Mrs. Reilly was a homemaker and longtime resident of Attleboro. She moved to Osterville several years ago.
Survivors include two sons, William J. Reilly of Marblehead and Marshall F. Reilly of Centerville; a brother, Frederick Marshall Jr. of Attleboro; eight grandchildren; and a nephew.
She was also the mother of the late Richard A. Reilly.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Wianno Avenue, Osterville.
Burial was private.

Patrick Frank Tobin, 76

Adams - Patrick Frank Tobin, 76, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 20, 2002 in Adams.
He was the husband of the late Rosita Ann (Farrell) Tobin since 1950.
He was born in Adams and attended Adams Public schools where he was a member of the class of 1944.
He served in the Marine Corps from 1944 until 1946, seeing duty in the Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands campaigns during World War II. He then entered University of Massachusetts at Amherst graduating with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1951.
Mr. Tobin completed a master of science degree in structural engineering from Northeastern University in 1960. He also received a certificate in international marketing from Quinnipiac College. He worked at Stone & Webster Inc. in Boston from 1951 to 1954 as a design engineer. In 1955, he joined Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn., a division of United Technologies as a design engineer. He held numerous titles and positions including chief design engineer.
He retired in 1993 after 36 years of service.
He lived in Hamden, Conn., from 1957 to 1995 where he raised his six children. He worked on various town committees, and coached youth baseball and basketball. Mr. Tobin was also an active member of the American Legion Post 88.
Since 1969, he summered in Centerville and moved there permanently in 1995. He was a member of the Old Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Club and Centerville Beautification Committee. He was also a member of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Centerville.
Survivors include two daughters, Eileen Marie Hughes of Dedham and Sheila Ann Fowler of Centerville; four sons, Timothy Tobin of Paul Smith, N.Y., James Tobin of Centerville and Otisfield, Maine, Patrick J. Tobin of New York City, and John F. Tobin of Duxbury; a brother, Thomas J. Tobin of Des Plaines, Ill.; two sisters, Rosemarie Curran of Stamford, Vt., and Margaret T. Curtin of Adams; 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A liturgy of Christian burial was held Friday in Our Lady of Victory Church, Centerville.
Burial was in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Memorial donations may be made to the Centerville Public Library book fund, 585 Main St., Centerville, MA 02632.

Miriam L. Walker, 92

Hyannis - Miriam L. Walker, 92, a resident of Hyannis, died Saturday, April 27, 2002.
She was the wife of F. Allan Walker who died in 1999. She was also the former wife of John Eaton, who died in 1944.
Mrs. Walker was born and raised in Centerville and attended Barnstable High School. She and her first husband owned and operated the Eaton Cranberry Bog. Both before and after growing cranberries, Mrs. Walker was employed as a home health care nurse. She was a member of the Osterville Garden Club in its formative years.
Surviving are two daughters, Betsy A. Harmon of Osterville and Nancy L. Little of Glendale, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Judith Selby of Warner-Robins, Ga.; a stepson, James A. Walker of Hyannis; a brother, Bernard Ames Jr. of Pocasset; and a sister, Lucile Belden of Seattle.
A graveside service will be held at a time to be announced.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

George R. Young, 63

Osterville - George R. Young, 63, a resident of Osterville, died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at his home after a long illness.
He was the dear friend of Maureen F. Hayden of Marstons Mills.
Born in Cambridge, Mr. Young lived in Boston until moving to Cape Cod nearly 50 years ago.
He was a member of the Shriners and the Masons.
Mr. Young was a self-employed real estate broker and painter for many years on Cape Cod.
Besides his dear friend, survivors include a daughter, Kellie E. Young of Taunton; a brother, Edward C. Young; and a grandson.
Funeral services and burial were private.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601.

Scott W. Baker, 48

West Yarmouth - Scott W. Baker, 48, a resident of West Yarmouth, died April 30, 2002, at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community-Pavilion in Hyannis after a brief illness.
Born in Hyannis, Mr. Baker was raised in South Dennis and was a 1974 graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.
He enlisted in the Air Force and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant in 1981.
During the 1990s, Mr. Baker worked as a machine operator for KAO Infosystems Co. in Plymouth and Hyannis. For the last few years, he worked as a truck driver for Cuffy's in South Yarmouth.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Baker was a movie buff and sports enthusiast. He was also an avid reader.
Survivors include two brothers, Peter A. Baker of West Yarmouth and Paul N. Baker of Las Vegas; and several nephews.
A graveside service was held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02401; or to the Healthcare Foundation of Cape Cod, 4 Bayview St., Hyannis, MA 02601.

Dorothy Dewing Battey

West Yarmouth - Dorothy Dewing Battey, formerly of Hyannis Park, died April 27, 2002, at Mayflower Place Nursing Center in West Yarmouth.
She was the wife of Edward Battey, who died in 1995. They were wed in1927.
Mrs. Battey, born in 1903 in Arlington. graduated with honors from Wellesley College in 1924 and taught college preparatory mathematics at private schools in the Boston area.
Her family summered each year in Hyannis Park beginning in 1919, and much later in Harwich on Bank Street. In 1927, she married Edward Battey, also of Arlington, a graduate of MIT. They moved to Connecticut and built a home in Riverside, where they lived for 56 years.
Mrs. Battey served as secretary of the South Connecticut Wellesley Club and also as alumnae treasurer of the Wellesley class of 1924. She was a member of the Greenwich Woman's Club and was active for many years in the Riverside Yacht Club duplicate bridge group. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich.
Mr. and Mrs. Battey moved to Cape Cod from Riverside, Conn., in 1990 and purchased a home in Hyannis Park, where they shared happy memories. They retired to Mayflower Place in West Yarmouth.
She was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants. She was a 10th-generation descendant from Richard Warren, London merchant with the Mayflower Company in 1620.
Survivors include a son, Edward "Peter" Battey III of Palm City, Fla., and Hyannis Park; a daughter, Pamela of Dallas and Hyannis Park; a sister, Esther Morris of Naples, Fla.; three granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service was held at the Dewing family plot in Arlington.

John J. Burchill, 62

West Barnstable - John J. Burchill, 62, of West Barnstable, died unexpectedly April 25, 2002, at his home.
He was the husband of Ann (Dwyer) Burchill.
Mr. Burchill was born in Boston and attended Boston College High School and St. Sebastian's Preparatory Day School. He earned a degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1961. Mr. Burchill went on to earn a juris doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1967, and served as an attorney with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers before beginning a 33-year career with the National Park Service. During this time, he served at Cape Cod National Seashore, Big Cypress National Preserve, Yosemite and Yellowstone national parks, the Lowell and Boston national historical parks, and the Boston African American National Historic Site.
Mr. Burchill was a member of the board of directors of A Christian Ministry in the National Parks, the Boston Marine Society and the Irish Charitable Society. One of his important contributions was the time and effort he gave to the restoration of local sites, including the African Meeting House, Dorchester Heights, Faneuil Hall, the Old State House, Old South Meeting House, and the USS Constitution Museum. His work on the restoration of Boott Mill in Lowell became a national model for adaptive reuse of an industrial structure.
Mr. Burchill worked with the late congressman Joseph Moakley to secure millions of dollars in federal funding for these projects, and he took the lead in developing educational curricula that focused on explaining historic sites, especially on the Freedom Trail. He served on the board of directors of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau and was an enthusiastic advocate of tourist site development in Boston.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Ann-Margaret Herbert of East Sandwich and Mary E. Finnemore of Norridgewock, Maine; three brothers, William of Falmouth, Richard of Bourne and Samuel of Kingston; three sisters, Virginia Shannon of Yarmouth, Joan Connors of Arlington and Mary Sheehan of Sandwich; and two granddaughters.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Church in Charlestown. Burial followed at Lothrop Hill Cemetery in Barnstable.

Agnes C. Cassidy, 96

Osterville - Agnes C. (McElhinney) Cassidy, 96, of Osterville, died April 26, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of Charles E. Cassidy for 65 years.
Mrs. Cassidy was born in Woburn and educated in Woburn schools. She was a graduate of Lowell State Teachers College and taught school in Somerville, Winchester and Barnstable for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Cassidy lived on Cape Cod since 1946. She was active in the Osterville Garden Club and the Hyannis Quota Club for Women. She volunteered at the Cape Cod Hospital Thrift Shop for many years and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, where she was a member of the guild. She enjoyed horseback riding, needlework, gardening and walking.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Susan Russo of the Bahamas; a sister, Margaret McLeod of Littleton; and two grandsons.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville.
