Damon Collins, 67

Marstons Mills - Damon Collins, 67, a resident of Marstons Mills, died May 2, 2002, at his home of cancer.
He was the husband of Kathleen F. (Fugate) Collins.
Born in Hazard, Ky., and raised and educated in the Hazard and Deputy, Ind., areas, Mr. Collins received a degree from the former NEAI, which is now Daniel Webster College in Nashua, N.H.
Mr. Collins worked in industrial management for manufacturing companies including American Can, PepsiCo., and Absopure. He retired and moved to Marstons Mills five years ago from Howell, Mich. He was active in the Sunrise Church of God in North Carver.
Mr. Collins enjoyed gardening, the beach and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Dillard E. Collins of Nashua and Damon E. Collins of Marstons Mills; three brothers; five sisters; and four grandchildren.
A funeral was held in the John-Lawrence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills, with burial following in Marstons Mills Cemetery.

William T. Corey, 94

Yarmouthport - William T. Corey, 94, of Yarmouthport, died April 24, 2002, at Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brewster.
He was the husband of Elizabeth Mary Corey, who died in 2001. They were married for 58 years.
Mr. Corey was born in Pittsburgh. He was a graduate of Carrick High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh. During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps and went on to serve with the Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1947 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Mr. Corey's career in the automobile industry included positions with Packard Motor Cars, Studebaker, Chrysler and British Leyland. Earlier in his career, he studied metallurgy and worked for U.S. Steel. After his retirement from British Leyland, Mr. Corey moved to Cummaquid Heights, where he was active in the Osterville Men's Club and Cummaquid Golf Club. He served several years on the Cape Cod Consumer Assistance Council.
He lived in Hancock Village, Westwood, Hingham, Westport, Conn., and Cummaquid Heights prior to moving to Yarmouthport. He had also been an Eagle Scout, a lifeguard and a camp counselor.
Surviving are a son, Richard Corey of Flanders, N.J.; a daughter, Barbara Groves of Weston, Conn.; a sister, Eleanor C. Beyers of Newtown Square, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held in St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis. Interment followed in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Robert P. DeMusis Sr., 59

Hyannis - Robert P. DeMusis Sr., 59, died April 23, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital.
Born in Springfield, Mr. DeMusis served in the Marine Corps. He settled in Hyannis in 1983 and had owned a paint and wallpaper business on Cape for 20 years.
Mr. DeMusis is survived by two sons, Robert P. DeMusis Jr. and Christopher M. DeMusis, both of Springfield; his father, Anthony V. DeMusis of Springfield, and his mother Marlene (Messick) Schneider of Enfield; three brothers, Anthony V. DeMusis Jr. and David DeMusis, both of Springfield and Scott DeMusis of Westfield; two sisters, Barbara Konstanopoulos of Whately and Beverly Smith of Chicopee; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at the Tazzini Funeral Home in Springfield. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at the convenience of the family.

Dr. Hutchins F. 'Hutch' Inge, 101

New Bedford - Dr. Hutchins F. "Hutch" Inge, 101, a former Osterville resident, died March 28, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy Helme Inge.
Dr. Inge was born in Charlottesville, Va. A graduate of the University of Minnesota with a pharmaceutical degree and Howard University with a medical degree, he began his medical practice in Newark, N.J., in 1936.
Dr. Inge was the first African-American elected as a New Jersey state senator in 1966. In 1970, he moved to Osterville where he continued his practice at his residence, retiring in 1995. He served the Mashpee school system and Barnstable County.
One of the founders of the Council of Doers, Dr. Inge was also a lifetime member of the NAACP and belonged to the American Medical Association and Massachusetts Medical Society.
He was an avid reader and was interested in current events, the stock exchange, fishing and conversation, especially with young people. He was always ready for a game of pool and would eagerly play cards with anyone.
After the death of his wife, he lived with his niece, Ellen M. Shepherd, until his death.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

R. Karl Manchon, 56

Port St. Lucie, Fla. ­R. Karl Manchon, 56, of Port St. Lucie and formerly of Ridgefield, Conn., died May 2 at the St. Lucie Medical Center here.
Born in New York City, he was attended New York schools.
A Connecticut resident from 1970 to 1988, he was a charter member of the former Exchange Club of Ridgefield, a member of the Ridgefield Rotary Club, and a past member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry.
Mr. Manchon was an executive vice president of the former Pure Food Corporation of Mamaroneck, N.Y.
In 1988, he relocated to Orleans and owned the operated the Old Yarmouth Inn. He moved to Florida in 1994.
He is survived by a daughter, Alicia M. LeBeau of Prospect, Conn.; a son, Andrew K. Manchon of Tuscon, Ariz.; and a sister, Karen M. Frank of Bethel, Conn.
Services were held in the Kane Funeral Home in Ridgefield, with entombment following in the family mausoleum at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, N.Y.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Sleep Apnea Association, 1424 K Street N.W., Suite 302, Washington DC 20005.

Katherine Phillips, 91

Osterville - Katherine (Mortimer) Phillips, 91, a resident of Osterville, died April 22, 2002, at the Royal Nursing Home for Alzheimer's Patients after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Philip Phillips.
Born in Garden City, Long Island, N.Y., Mrs. Phillips fell in love with Cape Cod at her family's summer home in Barnstable, where she swam, sailed and golfed for many years.
She married shortly before World War II and served with the Red Cross during the war while her husband was in Europe.
At the end of the war, she wintered in Atlanta and summered in Barnstable. Following the death of her husband in 1952, she moved to Barnstable and then to Osterville in the early 1970s to be closer to her beloved Wianno Golf Course and the area beaches.
While living on Cape Cod, she was chairman of the American Cancer Society, a member of the Barnstable Yacht Club and a member of the Cummaquid and Wianno Golf Clubs.
She supported her son by owning or managing stores including the Better Mouse Trap, Talbot's and Mark, Fore & Strike.
Her friends remember her sense of humor, love of books, outspokenness, quick backswing and wonderful dogs. She will also be fondly remembered for her passion for golf, her walks through the village and on the beaches, her feathered hat and her fierce independence.
For years she was a friend of the Osterville Library and an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Osterville.
She is survived by a son, Peter "Wick" Phillips of Palm Springs, Calif.; and numerous Barnstable cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 22 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Osterville.

Raymond H. Pierce, 66

Prattville, Ala. - Raymond H. Pierce, 66, a resident of Prattville and formerly of Osterville, died April 17, 2002, at Baptist Hospital in Prattville of congestive heart failure.
Mr. Pierce was born in Marstons Mills and raised in Osterville. He graduated from Barnstable High School in 1954. After high school, he served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957 and the Air Force from 1959 to 1964.
He lived in Clear, Alaska from 1967 to 1970, working for RCA Ballistic Missile Early Warning Systems as a programmer. After moving to Alabama, he was a retail distributor for many years for Kirby Vacuum Cleaners. He was residing in Prattville at the time of his death.
Mr. Pierce was an avid sports fan and played baseball, basketball and golf. Also an artist, he won prizes for designing commemorative coins.
Mr. Pierce designed a Cape Cod commemorative coin and was second runner-up in the Bicentennial Commemorative Coin Contest.
Survivors include a daughter, Ethel Lee (Pierce) Spencer of Lancaster, S.C.; three sisters, Barbara Ruth Pierce of Hyannis, Nancy Lee Van Buskirk of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and adopted sister Cynthia McNeely of Santuit; three brothers, Don Lionel Pierce of El Paso, Texas , L. Arthur Pierce Jr. of Phoenix and adopted brother Michael McShane of West Yarmouth; two granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis. Burial followed in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 1577 Falmouth Road, Centerville, MA 02632.

Andrew J. Quattralli, 70

Falmouth - Andrew John Quattralli, 70, a resident of Falmouth and formerly of Hyannis, died May 3, 2002.
Born in Boston, Mr. Quattralli lived in Falmouth for about a year and a half and previously in Hyannis for approximately 30 years. He worked for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hyannis.
He was also a volunteer at Cape Cod Hospital and for the Sons of Italy in Mashpee.
Survivors include two sisters, Rita Lane and Mary Jacobson; a brother, Robert Quattralli, a sister-in-law; and 12 niece and nephews.

Lawrence E. Rook, 76

Centerville - Lawrence E. Rook, 76, a resident of Centerville, died April 28, 2002, at the Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Joan (Ross) Rook for 53 years.
A resident of Centerville since 1991, Mr. Rook was a native of Stonington, Conn., where he graduated from Stonington High School.
He attended the University of Connecticut and graduated from Bliss Electrical School. An electrical engineer with General Electric for 15 years in Pittsfield and Shelbyville, Ind., he was also employed in various capacities by Vulcan Electric in Danvers, General Fittings in East Greenwich, R.I., Fee and Mason in Manasquan, N.J., and Montgomery Brothers in Torrance, Calif.
Mr. Rook was an Army Air Corps radio operator in North Africa during World War II, which led to a life-long interest in Ham radio with the call of K2OI. His hobbies included boat building, cabinet making, computers and gardening. An animal lover, he was also an instrument-rated pilot.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, James L. Rook of Salem; a daughter, Leighton E. Rook of Chepatchet, R.I.; a sister, Shirley Miller of Weekapaug, R.I.; and a granddaughter.
A celebration of Mr. Rook's life will be held at a later date.
