Louise Stetson, 93

Osterville - Louise (Clarke) Stetson, 93, of Osterville, died April 26, 2002, at Cape Regency Nursing Home in Centerville.
She was the wife of the late Russell Stetson.
Mrs. Stetson was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, and was a graduate of Framingham State Teachers College. Formerly of Sharon, she had resided in Osterville since the early 1970s.
Surviving are two sons, David C. Stetson of Naples, Maine, and Robert C. Stetson of Sharon; a brother, Lloyd Clarke of Kingston, Ontario; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services and burial are private.

Deo J. Tovet, 90

West Hyannisport - Deo J. Tovet, 90, died April 29, 2002, at Cape Regency Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Centerville.
He was the husband of the late Jeannette (Preu) Tovet.
Born in East Longmeadow, Mr. Tovet lived in West Hyannisport for 37 years.
He was the owner of Plymouth Beef Co., which became Cape Cod Beef Co. He retired in 1981.
Mr. Tovet was an active member of Cape Cod Businessman's Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane T. Growitz of Arlington, Va.; a son, James D. Tovet of Holbrook; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service was held in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Miriam L. Walker, 92

Hyannis - Miriam L. Walker, 92, a resident of Hyannis, died April 27, 2002.
She was the wife of F. Allan Walker, who died in 1999. She was also the former wife of John Eaton, who died in 1944.
Mrs. Walker was born and raised in Centerville and attended Barnstable High School. She and her first husband owned and operated the Eaton Cranberry Bog. Both before and after growing cranberries, Mrs. Walker was employed as a home health care nurse. She was a member of the Osterville Garden Club in its formative years.
Surviving are two daughters, Betsy A. Harmon of Osterville and Nancy L. Little of Glendale, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Judith Selby of Warner-Robins, Ga.; a stepson, James A. Walker of Hyannis; a brother, Bernard Ames Jr. of Pocasset; and a sister, Lucile Belden of Seattle.
A graveside service will be held at a time to be announced.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Helen E. Welch, 87

Centerville - Helen E. (Keveney) Welch, 87, a resident of Centerville, died April 29, 2002, at Cape Regency Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Centerville.
She was the wife of the late Dominic J. Welch.
Born in Hyannis, Mrs. Welch attended local schools and graduated from Barnstable High School in 1932.
She spent most of her life on Cape Cod with the exception of the years she lived in the Far East and in California, where her husband was stationed for military service.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
Survivors include two nieces, Ann McKeon of West Hyannisport and Maryann Loane of Osterville; two nephews, James Sweeney of Brookfield, Conn., and Mark Ellis of Sandwich; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, with burial following in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601; or to Centerville Public Library, 585 Main St., Centerville, MA 02632.

David L. Wiinikainen, 74

West Barnstable - David L. Wiinikainen, 74, a resident of West Barnstable, died April 28, 2002, at his home after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Betty (Paltsios) Wiinikainen.
Born and raised in Barnstable Village, Mr. Wiinikainen attended Barnstable schools.
He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II.
Mr. Wiinikainen worked for many years for Eldredge & Bourne moving and storage. In 1965, he became co-owner with his business partner, T. Richard Hewins.
They later sold the business in 1970 and Mr. Wiinikainen retired as vice president.
Mr. Wiinikainen later joined Mr. Hewins as a real estate associate and operator of an antiques and gift shop located in Sandwich.
He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and vacationing in Maine, where he had a seasonal residence.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan A. Maki of West Barnstable and Donna L. Hamnquist of Marstons Mills; two sons, David G. Wiinikainen of Marstons Mills and Richard M. Wiinikainen of Centerville; a sister, Ellen Houdelette of Tampa, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held in Lothrop Hill Cemetery in Barnstable.

George R. Young, 63

Osterville - George R. Young, 63, a resident of Osterville, died April 25, 2002, at his home after a long illness.
He was the dear friend of Maureen F. Hayden of Marstons Mills.
Born in Cambridge, Mr. Young lived in Boston until moving to Cape Cod nearly 50 years ago.
He was a member of the Shriners and the Masons.
Mr. Young was a self-employed real estate broker and painter for many years on Cape Cod.
Besides his dear friend, survivors include a daughter, Kellie E. Young of Taunton; a brother, Edward C. Young; and a grandson.

David M. Curtis, M.D.

Cotuit --David M. Curtis, M.D., former chief of staff at Cape Cod Hospital, died May 12, 2002, at Cape Regency Nursing Home.
He was the husband of June Curtis (Nickerson).
Born in Marlboro, Dr. Curtis was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Harvard University and Tufts Medical School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a surgeon.
He practiced general surgery for 35 years, 30 at Cape Cod Hospital, where he was chief of staff from 1968-69 before retiring in 1980.
Dr. Curtis served on the board of trustees of the Barnstable County Hospital, where he was also a surgical consultant. He was a liaison between Cape Cod Hospital and the local chapter of the Red Cross, and a member of their "three gallon club."
A service spokesman for the American Cancer Society, Dr. Curtis was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Medical Association, the Massachusetts Medical Society and the Barnstable District Medical Society.
For 49 years, he was a resident of Osterville, where he served as a director of the historical society and was a member of the men's club. He had lived in Cotuit for the last five years.
Dr. Curtis was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed photography, travel and the Red Sox. He was devoted to his wife and his children and was particularly involved with the lives of his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Joan Carleton of South Dennis; three sons: David Curtis, Jr. of Cotuit, Peter Curtis of Loveland, Colo., and Dr. James Curtis of Camden, Maine; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in the United Methodist Church of Osterville.

Mary Frances McKindsey, 92

South Dennis - Mary Frances (Van Dervort) McKindsey, 92, a resident of South Dennis, died May 8, 2002.
She was the wife of the late James Sterling McKindsey of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Mrs. McKindsey was born in Wilmington, Ohio, and graduated from Wilmington College in 1931. She attended the University of Wisconsin.
In 1966, she moved to Cape Cod. At the time of her retirement, Mrs. McKindsey was active with the Hyannis Public Library.
Survivors include a daughter, Marifran McKindsey of Cotuit; two sisters, Anne V. Hesse of Yarmouthport and Eleanor V. Talbot of Dayton, Ohio; and two grandsons.
She was the mother of the late James V. McKindsey.
Burial services will be private.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Cape Cod, P.O. Box 953, Barnstable, MA 02630; or to the Hyannis Public Library, 401 Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601.
