Edward F. Burke, 87

Albuquerque, N.M. - Edward F. Burke, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1974 and formerly of Centerville, died Oct. 5, 2002.
He was the husband of Anna Burke, who died in 1975, and of the late Gerritdena Burke.
Mr. Burke served in World War II and the Korean War.
He was a full-time member of the Massachusetts National Guard. He worked at the Hyannis National Guard Armory as a supply sergeant, retiring in 1969.
While in good health, he attended Asbury Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Burke and Robert Burke; two sisters, Lester Ringer and Lorraine Tennent; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services were held at French Mortuary in Albuquerque. Burial followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Joseph V. Caprio, 76

Osterville - Joseph V. Caprio, 76, a resident of Osterville, died Oct. 10, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis following a long illness.
He was the husband of the late Joan M. (Egan) Caprio.
Mr. Caprio was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.
After high school, he served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS St. Mary's.
After his military service, he attended Halstead School in Yonkers, N.Y., Salesian Brothers in Goshen, N.Y., and Pace University in New York City.
Mr. Caprio was a financial printer and was employed at Bowne & Co. in New York City and for the New York Daily News.
He retired in 1988. He resided in Yonkers until 1990, when he moved to Osterville.
Mr. Caprio was a member of the Sons of Italy and the Stiglianise Italian Club in Yonkers, and also was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Bronxville, N.Y.
Surviving are a son, Richard J. Caprio of Fairfield, Conn.; two daughters, Grace K. Smith of Osterville and Jayne M. Caprio of New Canaan, Conn.; and six grandchildren.
A Service of Committal was held at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery Chapel in Hawthorne, N.Y.

Scott H. Goodin, 47

Hyannis - Scott Harold Goodin, 47, a resident of Hyannis, died Oct. 7, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital.
Born in Hartford, Conn., he graduated from Coventry High School. He spent his summers on the Cape in Hyannis and his winters in Sarasota, Fla.
Mr. Goodin worked in the restaurant business for much of his life and at one time was the owner and manager of the Free Spirit Cafe in Vernon, Conn.
He enjoyed the beach, reading, and skiing.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel Scott Goodin and Nicholas John Goodin, both of Manchester, Conn.; a sister, Deborah Boisvert of San Leandro, Calif.; a brother, Marc Goodin of Bolton, Conn.; two nieces and two nephews; and his former wife and good friend, Susan G. Pearson.
Memorial services were held at the First Congregational Church in Coventry.

Richard P. 'Dick' Grace, 66

Centerville - Richard P. "Dick" Grace, 66, a resident of Centerville, died Oct. 6, 2002, at Falmouth Hospital.
He was the husband of Roberta L. (Higgins) Grace.
Born in West Roxbury, Mr. Grace was a graduate of Stonehill College.
He was an Air Force veteran, having served in France during the Berlin crisis. Before moving to Centerville in 1996, he lived in Queensbury, N.Y., for 20 years.
Mr. Grace was a sales engineer in the paper industry. He was event coordinator for the Paper Industry Management Association. He enjoyed golf and boating. He was a sports fan of the Red Sox and of Patriots and Notre Dame football.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Richard R. Grace of Chatham County, N.C., and David M. Grace of LaCanada, Calif.; two daughters, Linda K. Grace of Woburn and Nancy E. Griggs of Clifton Park, N.Y.; a brother, Leo F. Grace of Savannah, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and several cousins.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.

Rosamond C. Hunter, 78

Dennisport - Rosamond C. (Murphy) Hunter, 78, a resident of Dennisport and a native Cape Codder, died Oct. 5, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of Paul L. Hunter for 56 years.
Mrs. Hunter was born in Barnstable and was a lifelong resident of Cape Cod. After high school, she served for two years in the Navy with the WAVES, one of the three Murphy girls of Dennisport to serve during World War II.
After the war she returned to the Cape, where she married and settled in Dennisport. She and her husband owned and operated Aluminum Products of Cape Cod in Dennisport, a family-owned business that is still run by the family after more than 40 years. Mrs. Hunter was an avid collector, and had a collection of more than 3,500 salt shakers. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Pamela McDowell of San Pedro, Calif.; two sons, Michael Hunter and Stephen Hunter, both of Yarmouthport; a sister, Elizabeth Eager of South Yarmouth; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich. Burial was in Swan Lake Annex in Dennisport.

Marguerite Jones Lane, 81

Nicholasville, Ken. - Marguerite Jones Lane, 81, a resident of Nicholasville and formerly of Centerville, died Oct. 4, 2002, in Kentucky after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Merle "Pete" Lane for more than 60 years.
Born in Hyannis, she attended Barnstable schools. She lived on the Cape until 1984, when she moved to Nicholasville.
Mrs. Lane worked as a seamstress for C. Crawford Hollige, Filene's, The Woolshop and Lilly Pulitzer of Palm Beach. She taught sewing for the Singer Sewing Machine Co. and also worked for Cape Cod Candle Co. as an artist. For many years, she was manager for Lilly Pulitzer Shops in Osterville, for which she directed many fashion shows until her retirement. She was a life member of the Cotuit Chapter 221 Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Lane enjoyed golf and bowling. She also liked to sail and fish in Nantucket Sound. She was a big softball fan.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Nunley of Lexington, Ken.; two granddaughters; and a nephew.
She was also the mother of the late Richard Lane.

Donald E. Mullett

Hyannis - Donald E. Mullett, a resident of Hyannis, died Oct. 6, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital.
He was the husband of Eileen (Corbett) Mullett for 48 years.
Born in Medford and raised in Malden, Mr. Mullett graduated from the Malden High School in 1950.
He was a Korean War veteran in the Navy from 1951 to 1955.
Mr. Mullett and his wife moved to Cape Cod in 1996.
He loved woodworking and was a member of the American Legion Post 462.
Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Victoria Mullett of Hyannis; three sons, Daniel Mullett of Lawrence, John Mullett of Lynn and Douglas Mullett of Merrimack, N.H.; three sisters, Alma Dolan of Manchester, N.H., Louise Taylor of Seabrook, N.H., and Barbara McMahon of Melrose; a grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.

James F. Shields Jr., 93

Osterville - James F. Shields Jr., 93, a resident of Osterville, died Oct. 5, 2002, at the home of his son in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Agnes T. (Alymer) Shields for 66 years.
Born in Osterville, Mr. Shields graduated from Peekskill Military Academy in 1928 and attended Columbia University.
He was a Navy veteran, serving in World War II with the Seabees in Sicily and North Africa.
Mr. Shields was a prominent contractor and developer in Osterville for almost 30 years.
Well-known for his love of golf, he was a member of Cummaquid Golf Club, and shot his age at 70, 80 and 90 years old.
He also owned and operated school buses for the town of Barnstable for several years.
Mr. Shields was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the Barnstable School Committee and the Osterville Village Association.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, J. Michael Shields of Hyannis; three daughters, Eileen Shields of North Carolina, Susan Wing of Ipswich and Kathleen Shields of Palmer; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Osterville. Burial was in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
