Emanuel H. 'Monte' Sanders, 94

Centerville - Emanuel H. "Monte" Sanders, 94, a resident of Centerville, died Dec. 7, 2002, at Mayflower Place Nursing Center in West Yarmouth.
He was the husband of Kathleen (Rippin) Sanders, who died in 1984. They were married in 1931.
Mr. Sanders was born in Malden and raised and educated in Weston. He graduated from Bentley College.
In 1930, he began working as a teller for Wildey Savings Bank in Boston. He advanced through the bank officer ranks, becoming president of the bank in 1968. Wildey Savings Bank then merged with Dorchester Savings Bank to become First American Bank for Savings, where Mr. Sanders was the senior vice president. He was also a member of the board of investment at the bank. In 1972, he retired and moved to Cape Cod from Wayland.
Mr. Sanders was a member of the Federated Church of Hyannis, where he had been on various committees and boards, and of the Masonic Lodge in Waltham. He was formerly on the board of directors of the American Red Cross, a member of the Red Cross Motor Corps and former chairman of the Bloodmobile in Hyannis.
He was former treasurer of the Centerville Historical Society and on its board of directors. He volunteered at Cape Cod Hospital for 27 years. He was a member of the Osterville Men's Club and also an avid golfer.
Surviving are a son, Donald R. Sanders of West Chester, Pa.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a niece; and four nephews.
A memorial service was held at the Federated Church of Hyannis. Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to the Federated Church of Hyannis, 320 Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601; or to the charity of one's choice.

Mary H. Taylor, 92

Hyannis - Mary H. (Dastyk) Taylor, 92, a resident of Hyannis, died Dec. 10, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of the late George H. Taylor.
Mrs. Taylor was born and raised in Witherbee, N.Y. A homemaker, she lived in Saranac Lake, N.Y. until 1950, in Massena, N.Y. until 1972 and then in Centerville.
She was active in the Cape Cod Republican Club and Our Lady of Victory Church Women's Guild. She was known as an excellent seamstress and enjoyed dancing and crafts. She was also involved with the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music.
Surviving are a daughter, Helen Zimmerman of Melbourne, Fla.; a son, Walter E. Taylor of Longwood, Fla.; a brother, Walter Dastyk of West Hartford, Conn.; a stepsister, Helen Zeda of Dorchester; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

James T. Van Law, 63

Centerville - James T. Van Law, 63, of Centerville died Dec. 12, 2002, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was the husband of Eileen (Alcorn) Van Law for 42 years.
Mr. Van Law was born in Decatur, Ill., resided there for many years and lived in Suffield, Conn., for seven years. He was also a resident of Amherst, N.H., for 10 years before moving to Massachusetts in 1988.
For the past 12 years, he was a Realtor for Buyer Broker of Cape Cod. Throughout his career, he worked in retail, and while in Suffield he owned Van Law's retail store. He was also a regional vice president for Izod.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, James T. Van Law Jr. of Glastonbury, Conn.; two daughters, Janet E. Moses of Merrimack, N.H. and Jennifer W. Thibeault of Nashua, N.H.; a brother, William Van Law Jr. of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at the Amherst Congregational Church in New Hampshire.

Margaret Munier Babcock, 90

Ipswich - Margaret (Bassick) Munier Babcock, 90, a former resident of Cotuit, died Dec. 28, 2002, at the Stephen Caldwell Convalescent home in Ipswich.
She was the wife of the late Sumner Hovey Babcock and the late Robert Cushman Munier.
Mrs. Babcock was born in Sacramento, Calif., was a graduate of Scripps University and received her master's degree from the University of Delaware. She was a museum curator at Old Sturbridge Village and also at the New Hampshire Historical Society in Concord, N.H. She was also director of the Wareham Historical Association and Museum.
She was a member of the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church.
Surviving are two sons, Stephen B. "Bob" Munier of Newburyport and W. Timothy Munier of Marina Del Ray, Calif.; a stepson, William Babcock of Dallas; a stepdaughter, Barbara Kirby of Milton; three grandsons; four stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two step great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, followed by burial in Mosswood Cemetery here.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, Inc., 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.

Marea D. Bailey, 94

Falmouth -- Marea D. (DiStasio) Bailey, 94, a resident of Falmouth and formerly of Centerville, died Dec. 15, 2002, at the Royal Megansett Nursing Home.
She was the wife of the late M. Gordon Bailey. They were married for 54 years.
Mrs. Bailey graduated in 1927 from Burdette College in Boston.
When her husband retired, they moved to Centerville, where they spent the next 30 years.
Mrs. Bailey was a communicant of Our Lady of Assumption in Centerville.
She was also a member of the Osterville Garden Club and an aide associate at Cape Cod Hospital.
She is survived by a sister, Alba Salvi of Naples, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Osterville. Burial followed in Beechwood Cemetery in Centerville.

Anna C. Bird, 87

East Walpole -- Anna C. Bird, 87, an advocate for conservation and environmental causes, died Dec. 13, 2002, at a Brookline nursing facility.
Ms. Bird was born at her parents' summer home in Wianno, which her grandfather built in the 1880s and where she continued to spend summers throughout her life.
She graduated from Stanford University in 1947.
She was a member of the family that owned Bird & Son, a manufacturing company that operated for more than 200 years in the Walpole area.
A lifelong resident of East Walpole, she lived the last half of her life in an 18th century home on the Neponset River, across from where the family mills once produced paper and shoe boxes.
Ms. Bird was for many years active in Walpole's civic affairs, often attending meetings of public boards and commissions.
She was concerned with land conservation and the protection of the town's natural resources, and recently donated a large tract of land to the town's conservation commission.
She was also interested in state political and environmental issues. She was a member of the Massachusetts League of Women Voters and served on the board of the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
She served as a trustee of Bird Park, an 89-acre recreational area in East Walpole that once belonged to her family and which she worked to revive and turn over to the Trustees of the Reservation.
Cape Cod was also important to her. She was an avid bird-watcher and supported efforts to protect the Cape's environment.
Surviving are a niece, Anna Sofaer of Washington , D.C.; two nephews, Walter M. Phillips, Jr. of Philadelphia and Frank Phillips of Concord; and seven grandnephews and grandnieces and their five children.

The Rev. Francis B. Connors, 77

Taunton - The Rev. Francis B. Connors, 77, who served parishes on Cape Cod, died Jan. 4, 2003, at Marion Manor Nursing Home in Taunton after a long illness.
Father Connors was born in Taunton. He graduated from Msgr. Coyle High School in 1943, attended St. Charles College in Catonsville, Md., and St. John's Seminary in Boston from 1945 to 1950, and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Fall River.
He served St. Kilian's Parish in New Bedford for six months, Sacred Heart Church in Taunton for 20 years, Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville for 10 years, and also served at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pocasset. While in Taunton, he directed the CYO basketball program.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary R. Smith of East Falmouth and Ann C. Long of Mashpee; two brothers, Daniel J. Connors of Deep River, Conn., and John J. Connors of Taunton; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary's Church in Taunton, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery there.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul, 14 St. Mary's Square, Taunton.

Wilma J. 'Billie' Everson, 77

St. Cloud, Fla. -- Wilma J. "Billie" (Hemmann) Everson, 77, a resident of St. Cloud and formerly of Cape Cod, died Dec. 3, 2002, at her home of complications from lung disease.
She was the wife of Randall S. Everson, who died in 1982. They were married for 39 years. She later married Wallace Liberty, who died in 1993.
Ms. Everson was born in Paterson, N.J., and graduated from Central High School in 1942. After four years of marriage, she moved to Cape Cod, where she worked for Bill & Thelma's Restaurant for many years and then for the Captain's Table for 26 years until she retired. In 1987, after marrying Mr. Liberty, she moved to St. Cloud.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Everson of South Yarmouth and Richard Everson of East Dennis; a daughter, Marcia McLaughlin of San Diego; two stepdaughters, Linda Homer of Yarmouth and Nancy Homer of St. Cloud; a sister, Lois Genaro of Deerfield Beach; and seven grandchildren.

Linda Louise Fontneau, 59

Barnstable -- Linda Louise (Crocker) Fontneau, 59, a resident of Barnstable and a native Cape Codder, died Dec. 16, 2002, at her home of pancreatic cancer.
She was the wife of Richard Thomas Fontneau, who died in 1982. They were married in 1965.
Mrs. Fontneau was born in Hyannis and raised in Barnstable Village in the home where her father was born. She graduated from Barnstable High School in 1961 and from Fisher Junior College in 1963, with an associate science degree. She worked briefly at Ginn & Company Publishing in Boston.
From 1964 to 1968 she was secretary to the sales director at Buzzards Bay Gas Co., which became Colonial Gas and is now KeySpan. From 1968 to 1984, she worked as a part-time caterer with Jeannette Bowes Catering in addition to working as the secretary of the Unitarian Church of Barnstable from 1975 to 1984.
From 1984 to 2002 she was employed by Infinium Software, formerly Software 2000, working her way up from receptionist to assistant to the president and the CEO.
Mrs. Fontneau co-founded the Cape Cod division of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in 1977. She was former secretary of the Cape Cod Ski Club, former treasurer of the Hyannis East Elementary Parent Advisory Council, a former member of the Curriculum Committee of Barnstable High School and a former member of the Hyannis Yacht Club. She loved her family, friends and the Cape, especially Barnstable Village.
Surviving are her mother, Louise Aileen (Wallace) Crocker of Barnstable; a son, Daniel Richard Fontneau of Los Angeles; a daughter, Karen Elizabeth Hickey; two granddaughters; two nephews; and three nieces.
A Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
