Ivy J. Bourgeois, 80

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Ivy Joseph Bourgeois, 80, of Pleasant Street died Saturday morning, September 9, 2000 at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island in North Smithfield.

He was the husband of Louise (Alexander) Bourgeois for 57 years.

Born July 26, 1920 in Paulina, Louisiana , he was a son of the late Edgar J. and Louisiana (Brignac) Bourgeois. Mr. Bourgeois has been a resident of North Attleboro for the past 43 years after living most of his life in Louisiana .

He was a graduate of Lutcher High School in Lutcher, Louisiana and worked as a heat treater at Cumberland Engineering in South Attleboro for about 8 years before retiring in 1985.

He previously owned his own business in heat treating and was a veteran of WWII serving in the U. S. Navy for 6 years.

Mr. Bourgeois enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Jo-Ann Bourgeois of North Attleboro and Joyce Potter of Union, ME; a sister, Patricia Thompson of Louisiana ; 4 brothers, Pershing, Malvin, Charles and Ferrel Bourgeois all of Louisiana and many nieces and nephews.

He was brother of the late Irving, Garland, Roger and Irene Bourgeois.

A funeral was held from the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Tuesday, September 12th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral in Grace Episcopal Church on North Washington Street at 10 a.m.

Interment followed in Shepardville Cemetery, Plainville.

Visiting hours was on Monday, September 11 from 4 - 8 p.m.

Richard T. Bourgeois, 38

PAWTUCKET - Richard T. Bourgeois, 38, of Kenyon Avenue in Pawtucket died Thursday, September 7 in Rhode Island Hospital of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Born April 30, 1962 in Attleboro, he was a son of Joseph R. Bourgeois, Sr. of North Attleboro and Jean E. Claflin of Millinocket, ME.

Mr. Bourgeois has been a resident of Pawtucket the past 10 years and previously resided in North Attleboro many years. He attended Tri-County High School in Franklin and recieved his G.E.D. while he served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He then earned an Associates Degree in Electronics from N.E. Tech in Warwick.

He worked for the R. I. Carpenter’s Union, Local #94 in Providence as a commercial hard hat diver.

He loved motorcycles and enjoyed fishing, photography and life itself.

In addition to his parents, survivors include; grandparents Clarice Bourgeois of Providence and Wilson Foster of Attleboro; his stepfather, Kenneth Claflin of Millinocket, ME; brothers, Joseph Jr. of North Providence, Timothy of Attleboro, and Jeffrey Bourgeois of Cumberland, RI; a sister, Ann-Marie Rush of E. Millinocket, ME; a special friend, Caroline Kinney and her son, Anthony of West Warwick and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral was held from the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Monday, September 11th at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, North Attleboro at 11 a.m. Interment followed in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro.

Visiting hours were held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Louise E. Buckius, 79

PLAINVILLE - Louise E. Buckius, 79, of Wildwood Drive in Plainville died Wednesday afternoon, September 13, 2000 in Miriam Hospital. She was the wife of the late Clarence D. Buckius for 54 years before his death in 1990.

Born September 29, 1920 in Ecorse, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Dewey Cicotte and Maude Sarah (Hartrick)Reno.

Mrs. Buckius has been a resident of Plainville since 1982 and spent winters in Palm Bay, FL for many years. She previously lived in Queens, NY for over thirty years. She grew up in Michigan.

Mrs. Buckius was a physical education instructor and girls basketball coach at St. Pascal Baylon High School and St. Agnes Academy in Queens, NY for over 30 years before retiring in 1982. She also coached girls basketball at St. Patrick’s High School in Wyandotte, MI for several years.

She was a communicant of St. Martha’s Parish in Plainville and belonged to the Daughters of Isabella, Benedict Circle #61. She also played basketball until her late thirties and loved playing and watching all sports.

Her survivors include two sons, Robert Dale Buckius of Beth Page, NY and Lawrence Paul Buckius of Palm Bay, FL; a daughter, Lynn Marie Bradley of North Attleboro; a brother, Earl Reno of Springfield, OH; 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was sister of the late Dewey Cicotte and James Reno.

A funeral was held from the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Saturday, September 16th at 8:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mark’s Church, Stanley Street, Attleboro Falls at 9 a.m. Burial followed in Plainville Cemetery.

Longina C. Cerrone, 80

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Longina "Lonnie" C. Cerrone, 80, of Hawthorne Street died early Friday evening, August 24 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the wife of the late Luigi J. Cerrone.

Born March 15, 1920 in Saco, Maine, she was a daughter of the late Ignatz and Katarzyna (Potera) Sadowski.

Mrs. Cerrone resided in North Attleboro for over 60 years. She was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.

She worked at Whiting and Davis in Plainville as a bench worker for 20 years, retiring in 1985. Mrs. Cerrone was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in North Attleboro.

She enjoyed gardening and collecting "collectables", but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by two daughters; Judith O’Connell of Attleboro and Kathleen Cooper of Plainville, a son; Louis Cerrone of Sandwich, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Frank Sadowski.

Funeral services were held from the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove St., North Attleboro on Tuesday, August 29 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 14 Park St., North Attleboro at 10 a.m. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Health Agency, 141 Park St., Attleboro, MA 02703 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701

Michael R. Dagosta, 54

Vietnam War Veteran

HUMBLE, TX - Michael R. Dagosta,54 , died suddenly August 31, 2000 in Humble, Texas . He was the husband of Vera (Durnell) Dagosta.

Born September 3, 1945 in Attleboro, he was a son of Gertrude (Donnelly) Dagosta of North Attleboro and the late Raymond Dagosta.

Mr. Dagosta was a resident of Humble, Texas for over 25 years, previously living in North Attleboro.

He was previously employed at Balfour Company in Attleboro for several years.

He as a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include; three sons, Timothy Dagosta of Baltimore, MD, and Joseph and Anthony Dagosta of Humble, TX; three daughters, Terri Dagosta-Murphy of Franklin, Gina Dagosta of Humble, TX, and Nicole Ovelgonne of Humble, TX; a sister, Donna Gilmore of North Attleborough; 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, September 14 at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary’s Church, 14 Park Street, North Attleborough. Burial was at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.

Alfred A. Dantas, 96

SOUTH BOSTON - Alfred A. Dantas, 96, of East 8th Street, died September 15, 2000 at Marion Manor Nursing Home in South Boston. He was the beloved companion of Marie Gray of Weymouth.

Born December 26, 1903 in Portugal, he was a son of the late Augusto & Venzinda (Feijoo) Dantas.

He came to the United States from Portugal when he was 19 years old. He has since been a resident of South Boston since 1970, previously living in the South End. Before his retirement, he was a chef at Hayes Bickford’s Restaurants.

In addition to his companion, survivors include two sons; Frank Dantas of CT and David Dantas of RI, two daughters; Pauline McCarthy and Diane (Dantas) Gray both of Quincy; a brother, Frank Dantas of Rockland; two sisters, Adalgiza Nunes and Eliria Pereira both of RI and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Venzinda Senna, Marianna Costa, Maria Oliveira, Venzinda Dantas, and Belmira Oliveira.

A funeral service was held in McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 354 Adams St. (at Neponset Ave.), Dorchester on Tuesday, September 19 at 1 p.m. followed by burial in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.

Patricia E. Flannery

SQUANTUM - Patricia E. "Patsy" Flannery, 69, of the Squantum section of Quincy died Tuesday, September 12, 2000 at Boston Medical Center. She was the wife of James O. Flannery for 49 years.

Born October 11, 1930 in Boston, she was a daughter of the late Patrick J. and Mary T. (Donnelly) Duggan. Mrs. Flannery has been a resident of Squantum for the past 25 years and was previously a longtime resident of Dorchester. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School, Roxbury in 1948 and later worked as an office manager at the former DR Group, a Boston advertising firm, for many years before retiring 15 years ago. She was a communicant of Star of the Sea Roman Catholic church in Squantum and a member of the choir. Mrs. FLannery loved oil painting and was an avid bingo player. She was also a very dedicated family person always taking care of her grandchilren and children.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Patricia E. Flannery and Marion Feeney both of Squantum; two sisters, Mary T. Jewett of Norton and Helen McGrail of Braintree; and three grandchildren, James, Michael and Sean. She was also sister of the late Daniel F. and Thomas J. Duggan.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, September 16th at 9 a.m. in Star of the Sea church, 107 Bellevue Rd., Quincy. Visiting was Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., E. Milton Square.

Memorial donations in Patsy’s memory may be made to American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Chestnut St. Suite 301, Brockton, MA 02401-7501

Arthur W. French, 88

PLAINVILLE - Arthur W. French, 88, of Grove Street died early Saturday morning, August 26 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Elsie (King) French.

Born April 12, 1912 in North Attleboro, he was a son of the late Waldo & Madeline (Donnelly) French.

Mr. French was a resident of Plainville for over 45 years. He attended North Attleboro High School.

He was a toolmaker at H.F. Barrows in North Attleboro for many years, retiring in 1980.

Mr. French was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in North Attleboro. He enjoyed working with wood and stained glass, creating beautiful Tiffany Lamps.

He is survived by three brothers; Harry and Lester French, both of Plainville and Walter French of Cumberland, three sisters; Jeannette Nowick of So. Yarmouth, Barbara French of Plainville, and Jean Eldridge of Wareham, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation was held on Tuesday evening, August 29 from 6 - 9 p.m. in the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. Graveside services was held on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Attleboro Falls. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.

Bonnie Gillmore, 55

Plainville Community Activist

PLAINVILLE - Bonnie Gillmore, 55, of East Bacon Street died Saturday evening, August 19, 2000 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro.

Born September 22, 1944 in Long Beach, California, she was a daughter of the late Frank A. and Virginia (Dumbleton) Gillmore.

Bonnie grew up in Acton and has been a resident of Plainville since 1989, she also resided in Wrentham for several years.

She worked at G-Tech Corporation in Providence in the software quality assurance department for many years before retiring due to disability in 1993. She underwent lung volume reduction surgery in 1994 with a technique improved upon by Dr. Joel Cooper of Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She then felt a need for and started a support group for sufferers of C.O.P.D. (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton. She was extremely active in giving support to people with emphysema, frequently giving talks to adults and school children about the dangers of smoking.

Her involvement in these activities was the subject of several Sun Chronicle articles in years past.

Ms. Gillmore was also very active in Plainville town affairs until recently serving as the chairperson of the Finance Committee, co-chair of Citizen’s Advisory Committee, member of Plainville Technologies Task Force, Library Friend and Volunteer, Landfill Care Group Committee and Concerned Citizens for Plainville. She was also a former trustee of the Central Congregational Church in Attleboro Falls.

She also worked on her bachelors degree in Computer Science while attending Northeastern University.

Bonnie had been on the waiting list for a lung transplant for several years and in February of 1999 was placed in the top one-third of that list. She was issued a beeper as next-in-line just two weeks ago.

Her survivors include a daughter, Kathleen S. Paul of Oregon and a son, Gary S. Ames of California; a sister, Ginny McBride of Nevada; a brother, John Gillmore of Oregon; 2 grandchildren, Theron Paul of Oregon and Riley Ames of California; 2 nephews, Danny Gillmore of Oregon and Nathan McBride of Florida

A Memorial visitation was held on Wednesday evening, August 23, 2000 from 5-8 p.m. in the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to whatever organization you think Bonnie would appreciate.
