Leslie Thompson
1937 - 2001
Mr. C. Leslie Thompson of Dunstable, MA died April 27, 2001, at Lowell General Hospital after an accident at his home. He was married to Mrs. Judy (Cullen) Thompson.
Born in Girard Township, PA on Dec. 8, 1937, the son of the late Charles A. and F. Arlene (Greenwood) Thompson. He was a graduate of Rowe High School in Conneaut, OH with the class of 1955. He received an Assoc. Degree in Industrial Engineering from Lowell Tech. Class of 1969. He served with the U.S. Air Force in Korea just after the Korean Conflict. He was CEO and founder of General Woodworking and Phoenix Workstations both of Lowell, MA.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church of N. Chelmsford, MA.
Besides his wife he is survived by three sons Michael and his wife Karen (Wheaton) Thompson of Dunstable, John and his wife Judy (Lamburn) Thompson of Dunstable, Daniel and his wife Lauri (Manzi) of Pelham, NH, two daughters Mrs. Richard (Amy) Parslow of Nashua, NH, and Mrs. Donald (Sara) Axon of Dunstable, a brother Dean Thompson of Lompoc, CA, three sisters Mrs. Chuck (Shirley) Reinke of Albion, PA, Mrs. Bill (Vonna) Carlson of Conneaut, OH, and Mrs. Doug (Linda) Burdick of Conneaut, OH. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and his life partner Robin Caron of Dunstable. He was the brother of the late Ronnie Thompson of Ohio who died in 1980.
Funeral Wed at 8AM from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9AM. Visiting hours Tues. 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Cremation at Linwood Crematory, Haverhill, MA. William Hovey
1927 - 2001
Mr. William J. Hovey of Lowell died May 19, 2001 at Lowell General Hospital.
He was married to Mrs. Anne M. (Botti) Hovey with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 17, 2000.
Born in Lowell on August 20, 1927, the son of the late George and Catherine (Lowe) Hovey. He attended the Lowell School System.
He was employed with B&M Railroad in Billerica and McQuestion Lumber in Billerica as a foreman.
He was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church of Lowell.
He was a an avid sportsmen enjoying hunting and fishing, and was a member of Centerville Sportsmen's Club in Dracut.
Besides his wife he is survived by three sons and their spouses William and Susan (Aho) Hovey of Nashua, NH, Dennis J. and Linda (MacLvoy) Hovey of Haverhill, Michael Hovey and his Fiancé Mailieha Goss of Peabody, MA, two daughters and their husbands Gail and James Cassidy of Hudson, NH, Colleen and Stephen Oliver of Nashua, NH, two brothers and their wives Harold and Eileen Hovey of Chelmsford, Francis and Patricia Hovey of Lowell, a sister and her husband Kay and Ray Ricard of Nashua, NH, nine grandchildren Rebecca Burke of Lowell, Kristin Hovey of Lancaster, NH, Sean P. McQuaide of Groton, William J. Hovey II of Nashua, NH, Daniel Oliver of Nashua, NH, Eric Hovey of Haverhill, Megan Hovey of Haverhill, Amanda Oliver of Nashua, NH, and Samantha Oliver also of Nashua, NH, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert Hovey of Lowell, George H. Hovey of Nashua, NH, Mary (Hovey) Coan of Lowell, Ellen (Hovey) Brooks of Lowell. He was also the grandfather of Andrew Hovey of Haverhill, MA who passed away in 1990.

Gregory Kasabian
1956 - 2001
Detective Sgt. Gregory S. Kasabian of Tyngsboro, MA. died July 23, 2001 at the Mass. General Hospital in Boston, MA.
He was married to Mrs. Deborah J. (Cunha) Kasabian with whom he celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary on June 11.
Born in Cambridge, MA. on Nov. 3, 1956, the son of Kenneth K. and Virginia A.(Gasparian) Kasabian of Waltham, MA. He was a graduate of Waltham High School with the class of 1975, attended Bridgewater State College, and received an Associates Degree from the Western New England College.
From 1980 to 1989 he was the Co-Owner of the Olympia Gym in Wakefield, MA. and in 1989 he joined the Tyngsboro Police Dept., Patrol Division, and later served with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, where he received a Meritorious and Distinguished Service Award. In 1999 he was made a Detective, and on Nov. 6, 2000 he attained the rank of Detective Sergeant serving with the Criminal Division.
On July 17, 2001, he was selected to be inducted to the National Association of Police Organization.
He was a communicant of St. Mary Magdalen's Church of Tyngsboro, MA.
He was most active in the youth sports at High Schools in Waltham, Wakefield, Reading Melrose, and for the last six years he was one of the football coaches at he Tyngsboro High School, and most recently Tyngsboro Youth Baseball Association. He was also a member of the Tyngsboro Sportsman's Club.
Besides his wife and parents. he is survived by four sons Brent Daniel Kasabian, Evan Gregory Kasabian, Kyle Sooren Kasabian, and Jarret Ron Kasabian all of Tyngsboro, MA, and his brother Kenneth K. Kasabian Jr. and his wife Sakura, and a nephew Aaron Gustav Kasabian, and a niece Rebbecca Elizabeth Kasabian all of Harvard, MA, and aunt Helen Papazian of Thailand, and a father-in-law Daniel Cunha of Falmouth, MA, and he was the son-in-law of the late Claire (Steele) Cunha, and was the brother-in-law of Robert and his wife Barbara Cunha, Richard Cunha, Barbara and her husband Shawn Almeida, Catherine and her husband John Welch, all of Falmouth, MA. and Kenneth Cunha of Fl. and many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Funeral Mon. at 10 am from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 11 am at Tyngsboro Jr. Senior High School on Norris Rd., Tyngsboro, MA.

Helena Swanson
1921 - 1999
Helena C. (Dobek) Swanson, 78, of Manchester, passed away May 15, 1999 at Elliot Hospital after a brief period of illness.
Born in Manchester on May 7, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maryanna (Kumor) Dobek, and the wife of the late James R. Swanson.
Mrs. Swanson graduated from Manchester Central High School, Class of 1939, and the University of New Hampshire, Class of 1943.
Before retiring in 1985, Mrs. Swanson was an accounting supervisor with Home Insurance Company for thirteen years. Prior to that she had been employed by Prevue Products, BeeBee Shoe, Anchor Electric, R.P. Burroughs, and Gera Fabrics/Verney Mills. For many years she kept the books for her husband’s business, Jim’s Foreign and Domestic Auto Repair.
Mrs. Swanson was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church, Manchester. She enjoyed needlework, especially cross-stitch and crocheting, and was well known for her exquisite snowflake designs. She was an avid mystery reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast. A member of the Girls Scouts of the United States of America, until recently served as a volunteer in the troop of one of her granddaughters, and was affectionately known as “Babci” by all of the girls. She was also a member of St. Hedwig Ladies Guild.
She is survived by her daughters and their families: Connie and Max Boyd, and their daughter Catherine, all of Harrisville, NH; Joyce and Bill Keane, and their children Christina and Timothy, all of Manchester; and Lyn and Brian Lavery, and their sons James and Matthew, all of Natick, MA; and a niece, Nancy Vercauteran, of Chicago, IL.
Services: Calling hours are Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in John J. Bykowski Funeral Home, 285 Manchester Street, Manchester NH.

Lloyd King
1931 - 2002
Lloyd Livingston King, 70, of 76 Bossidy Drive died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center. He had resided in Pittsfield since 1968.
Born in Lexington, Va., on Dec. 30, 1931, son of Howard and Elizabeth Sandidge King, he was educated in schools there. Mr. King was employed by Byron Weston Co. in Dalton as a millwright for 28 years, retiring in 1994.While in Lexington, he worked as a funeral director at the former Smith Funeral Home for many years.
He was a past master of St. John's Masonic Lodge 10 and Beulah Chapter Order of Eastern Star. He served as a board member of many organizations, including Early Childhood Development Center, the police advisory, the Association for Basic Community Development and Education and the Christian Center, and was a trustee of Price Memorial AME Zion Church. A golfer, he was a supporter and instructor of Harts School of Golf in Williamstown. Mr. King was a blood donor for many years.
He and his wife, the former Myrtle M. Bannister, were married Nov. 10, 1951, in Lexington.
Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Lonnie W. King, Tyson K. King and Lawrence King, all of Pittsfield, and Larry King of Syracuse, N.Y.; and a daughter, Joyce E. Stores of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by two sons, Lloyd L. King Jr. and Thurmond L. King.
Mr. King is also survived by his eight adored grandchildren, Marshall Stores III, Aaron King, Anissa King, Katrina King, Kerry King, Lance King, Tyrone King and Brandon King-Powell, and by his cherished four great-grandchildren. Also survived by Anette Gibson, his cousin, who was more like a sister; Marion Watts, his sister-in-law; two daughters-in-law, Deneice and Mary King; his former son-in-law, Marshall L. Stores Jr.; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and acquaintances.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Randolph Street Methodist Church.
He spent a lifetime serving and making Pittsfield a better community.

Jerry Ceres
1984 - 2002
JERRY V. CERES III of COLTS NECK, died Friday in Colts Neck. He was a senior at Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, Middletown, where he was a member of the production crew and president of the Science Fiction Club.
He earned the highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award, and held vigil honor within the Order of the Arrow. He was president of the Youth Officers Association, and president of EMS Explorers Post 367 of Middletown. He attended the Ranney School of Tinton Falls.
Born in Long Branch, he lived in Colts Neck.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, William Hotchkiss, in 1999. Surviving are his parents, Jerry and Bonnie Ceres Jr.; a brother, Brian "BC" at home; paternal grandparents, Gerald and Rita Ceres of Holmdel; and maternal grandmother, Zita Hotchkiss.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Colts Neck Reformed Church, Colts Neck. Interment will be at Atlantic Cemetery, Colts Neck. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Monmouth Council Boy Scouts of American, Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, NJ 07755.

Dorothy Avedian
1914 - 2000
Dorothy Avedian, formerly of Belmont and Watertown, died on July 18, 2000 in the Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in the Jamaica Plain section of the City of Boston. She was the daughter of the late Yassaie & Zanazan (Bozakian) Bozkourdian, and was born in Gurin, Armenia, and was 85.
Mrs. Avedian was predeceased in 1996 by her husband Robert Avedian, and was the sister of the late Kay Demerjian and Minas Bozkourdian.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Russo, and her son-in-law Joe Russo of Weston, Florida, Granddaughters, Leigh Ann Russo and Christy Russo both of Dallas, Texas .
Mrs. Avedian also leaves several nieces and nephews including Margaret Marashlian of Arlington, MA, Ronald Demerjian and Kenneth Demerjian both of Waltham, MA and Grace Takvorian of Belmont, MA.
Graveside services will be held at the Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton, MA on Friday July 21, 2000 at 10: 00AM.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Saint James Armenian Church, 465 Mt. Auburn Street, Watertown, MA 02472.

John Ekstrom
1918 - 2000
John Olaf Ekstrom, 82, of Medfield where he has been a resident since 1952, died after a brief illness Thursday evening, November 2, 2000 at the Thomas Upham House in Medfield.
Born May 9, 1918 in Cloud County, Kansas, he was the son of the late Harry C. Ekstrom and Martha (Stark) Ekstrom. He was educated in the Hollis School System, Hollis, Kansas.
John was employed by the Polaroid Corporation as a Model Maker and retired after twenty years service in 1985. A World Was II and Korean War U.S. Navy Veteran, he fought aboard the Battleship USS New Mexico during World War II. His ship which poured 1500 pound shells onto Okinawa for six days clearing the way for troops taking part in the greatest amphibious landing of the Pacific Theatre. John saw much action during the war, having taken part in many campaigns amidst harsh Japanese air attacks.
He was an active communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Medfield serving as a member of the Parish Council, usher, past president of the Holy Name Society and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. In his earlier years, John was a Cub Scout Leader and Little League Coach. He also was a former member of the Town of Medfield Planning Board and Zoning Board.
Husband of Elizabeth (Mueller) Ekstrom, he is also survived by 4 children, John E. Ekstrom and his wife Beverly of Hanover, Robert C. Ekstrom and his wife Rebecca of Spencer, Peter J. Ekstrom and his wife MaryLou of Binghamington, NY, and Christina W. Wider and her husband Timothy of Dover, 1 brother William Ekstrom of KS, 4 sisters, Alice Sherwin of CA, Margaret Cook of AR, Dorothy Rhine of KS and Joan Sheldon of TX. He is also the proud grandfather of 11 and great grandfather of 2.
Family and friends will gather Monday, November 6 at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Miller Street, Medfield at 9AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 133 Spring Street, Medfield. Burial will follow at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Elizabeth, and their family at the Funeral Home Sunday from 2: 00PM to 5: 00PM.
