Mona Sherman
1921 - 2000
Mona Fernley (Lunn) Sherman, 79, of Medfield, where she has been a resident since 1965, died at her home, Sunday morning, December 17, 2000.
Born August 15, 1921 in Abercorn, Brome County, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late William Frank Lunn and the late Hazel Irene (Spicer) Lunn.
Educated in the Abecorn, Quebec schools, she came to this country at the age of 21 and settled in the Boston Area. Formerly of Dedham, she was a member of T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). A crafter, she was noted for her talents in quilting, knitting, crocheting, and gardening, and was also an amateur artist.
In addition to her husband of 53 years, George M. Sherman, she leaves a sister, Oprie Page of Cowansville, Quebec, Canada, and 12 nephews and nieces. She is the sister-in-law of Frank and his wife Claire Sherman of So. Yarmouth and Thomas and his wife Betty Sloan of Plymouth.
A Memorial service will be celebrated Thursday, December 21, at 1: 00PM at the Roberts-Mitchell Memorial Chapel, 15 Miller Street, Medfield. Relatives and friends may visit with Mona’s family following the service.
Those wishing, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to the Medfield Home Committee, PO Box 315, Medfield, MA 02052.

G. Rodney Hackwell
1911 - 2000
G. Rodney Hackwell , husband of the late Antolina "Anne" V. (Merchut), died early Thursday morning at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after being in failing health for the past 6 months.
He was born in Boston, son of the late Garnet W. and Ivaloo (Wood) Hackwell, grew up in Bridgewater where he graduated from high school in 1929. Rodney was a member of the Class of 1930 of Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine and Class of 1934 of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, serving as Class Secretary and Agent for many years for both of these educational institutions. He served as golf pro at the Bethel Inn and Country Club and was the first golf instructor at Bridgewater State College.
In 1934 Mr. Hackwell became an independent broker for Provident Mutual Life in Boston and opened an Easton office in 1945, later becoming Hackwell-Boone Insurance Agency. He was a long time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Easton, a charter member of the Easton Rotary Club, member and former director of the Massachusetts Brokers Association, a member of Paul Dean Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Easton and the Scottish Rite Valley of Boston Shrine, and a son of the American Revolution. Golf played an important part of Mr. Hackwell’s life. He was a member of Thorny Lea Golf Club since 1946, captain of their golf team for over 10 years, and a member of the New England Seniors Golf Association. He also was an avid bridge player for most of his life.
Mr. Hackwell is survived by a daughter: Virginia "Gina" H. Boone and her husband Myles A. of Easton; three grandchildren: M. Dustin Boone of Hanover, NH., Anne Margaret Boone of Boston and Ian H. Boone of Easton; and a cousin: Miriam H. Delaney of Newport, NH.
Reverend Charles Moline, Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will conduct family services Tuesday. Arrangements are by Sampson & Hall Funerals 309 Main St., Brockton.Visiting hours will be Monday 4-8 P.M. at Sampson & Hall Funerals 309 Main St., Brockton.

Thomas Cavanaugh
1929 - 2000
Thomas J. Cavanaugh Jr, 70, of Manchester, NH, died April 12, 2000, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 29, 1929, he was the son of Thomas J. and Kathleen (Connor) Cavanaugh. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester.
Mr. Cavanaugh graduated from Saint Joseph High Schools for Boys and attended New Hampshire College.
During the Korean War, he served with the United States Army in Germany.
Before his retirement in 1994, Mr. Cavanaugh worked as a central office technician with AT & T for forty-one years.
Mr. Cavanaugh was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2320 where he held various positions including business manager and president.
Mr. Cavanaugh was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to served as a citizen representative to the Panama Canal Treaty delegation. He was also appointed to serve on the advisory Committee of the Military Service Academy Selection Board by United States Senators John Durkin and Bob Smith.
Mr. Cavanaugh was an active member of the Manchester Democratic City Committee. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Benevolent and Protected Order of Elks Lodge No. 146. He was also past president of Park View Hills Condominium Association of Manchester
He was a longtime communicant of Saint Joseph Cathedral where he served as an usher. He was a member of the League of One Thousand Men of the Precious Blood Monastery.
Mr. Cavanaugh was a loving and devoted father who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Family member includes two daughters, Mrs. JR (Maura A.) Ouellette of Hooksett, NH and Catherine M Cavanaugh of Manchester, NH; three sons, Martin T. Cavanaugh, Kevin J. Cavanaugh and Thomas P. Cavanaugh all of Manchester; five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services: Calling hours are at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home, 537 Union Street, corner of Concord Street, Manchester, NH, are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
The funeral is Saturday at 9: 15 AM from the funeral home, followed by a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 AM in Saint Joseph Cathedral, Pine Street, Manchester, NH.
Urn burial will take place in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH.
Memorial donations may be made to the Saint Patrick's Day Parade Committee-Ancient Order of Hibernians, C/O Daniel Sheehan, 276 Westwood Drive, Manchester, NH, 03103.

John Quirk
1920 - 2000
John E. Quirk, retired MTA general manager
John E. Quirk, 80, of Manchester, NH, died July 2, 2000, at Catholic Medical Center, after a sudden illness.
Born in Manchester, NH, on May 1, 1920, he was the son of John L. and Margaret (Wolf) Quirk. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester, NH.
Mr. Quirk was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School for Boys.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army.
Mr. Quirk was employed at the Manchester Transit Authority for forty-five where he retired as general manager. Most recently, he worked at the Union Leader Corporation as a security guard.
Mr. Quirk was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed the pleasures of family life.
He was an avid gardener and bird watcher.
Mr. Quirk a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary P. (Armstrong) Quirk. She died May 18, 1974.
Family members include, his wife of twenty five years, Mrs. Irene M. (LeBel) (Jutras) Quirk; two sons, John E. Quirk Jr. of Manchester, NH, Martin F. Quirk of Manchester, NH; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Kathleen A.) Krause of Manchester, NH, Mrs. Gary (Eileen M.) Slattum of Manchester, NH; six grandchildren; two step-sons, Roger Jutras of Pittsburgh, Penn.; Roland Jutras of Bayard, New Mexico; two step-daughters, Priscilla Page of Epsom, NH; Pauline Reardon of Melbourne, Florida; seven step-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; a sister, Joan McCabe of De Land, Florida; many nieces; nephews and cousins.
Services: Calling hours at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home, 537 Union Street, corner of Concord Street, Manchester, NH, are Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
The funeral is Thursday at 9: 15 AM from the funeral home, followed by a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. Michael E. Sevigny, O.F.M., Cap., officiating.
Burial will take place in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH.
Memorial donations, may be made to the Salvation Army, 121 Cedar Street, Manchester, NH, 03101.

Clement Rossignol
1916 - 2000
Clement F. Rossignol, 84, of Manchester, NH, died September 9, 2000, at Elliot Hospital, after a period of declining health.
Born in Portland, Maine, on February 1, 1916, he was the son of William J. and Mary McLellan (Kirk) Rossignol. He resided in Manchester, NH, for most of his life.
Mr. Rossignol graduated from Manchester Central High, Class of 1934.
During World War II, Mr. Rossignol served with the United States Army Air Corps. He received a presidential commendation from President Harry S. Truman for his unselfish and patriotic contributions to a speedy victory to the war.
In his early years, Mr. Rossignol worked as a typewriter repairman for Remington Rand Company of Manchester, NH. In the late 1940’s, Mr. Rossignol founded Majestic Office Equipment of Manchester and continued to manage the company until his retirement in 1982.
As a young man, he played semi-pro football. He was an avid sportsman and also enjoyed listening to classical music and opera.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Rossignol was a longtime communicant of Saint Raphael Church.
He was married to Irene (VanDerBeken) Rossignol who died April 30, 1964.
Family members include two daughters, Jeanne Daley of Hingham, MA; and Jo-Ann Bergantino of Boston, MA; three sons, Robert Rossignol of Acton, MA, John Rossignol of Manchester, Mark Rossignol of Portsmouth, NH; fifteen grandchildren, two great grandsons; a sister, Mrs. Emmanuel (Gloria) Valavane of Manchester, NH; several nieces and nephews.
Services: Calling hours are at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home, 537 Union Street, corner of Concord, Street, Manchester, NH; are Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm.
The funeral is Wednesday at 9: 15 from the funeral home, followed by a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 am in Raphael Church, Manchester, NH.
Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Clement F. Rossignol Scholarship Trust, in care of Saint Anselm College, 110 Saint Anselm Drive, Goffstown, NH, 03102-1310.

Nancy Lemire
1937 - 2001
Nancy G. Lemire, 63, of Manchester, NH, died March 19, 2001, at Elliot Hospital, after a sudden illness.
Born in Manchester, NH, on December 16, 1937, she was the daughter of Wesley J. and Jeannette (Morin) Libby. She was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mrs. Lemire graduated from Manchester High School Central, Class of 1955, where she was a majorette.
Before her retirement, she worked as a toll booth attendant with the State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, for ten years.
She was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Mrs. Lemire was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, whose family was the center of her life.
Family members include her husband of forty-three years, Edward M. Lemire of Manchester, NH, two sons, Brian E. Lemire of Manchester, NH; Barry J. Lemire of Manchester, NH; four grandchildren; a brother, Wesley Libby of Manchester; NH; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Marilyn) Van Hoff of Midland, Texas , Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Cardow of Manchester, NH; and Norma Libby of Manchester, NH; many nieces and nephews.
Services: Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, corner of Concord Street, Manchester, NH.
The funeral is Friday at 9: 15am from the funeral home followed by a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 am in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, with the Rev. Marcel Allard, pastor, officiating.
Encryptment will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, Manchester, NH.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, of NH, 20 Merrimack Street, Manchester, NH, 03101.
