Edward S. Burgess, Sr., 74, of Brockton and Harwich died unexpectedly Friday evening, October 26, 2001 at the Brockton Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley L. (Creeden) Burgess. He was the son of the late Edward Burgess and Mary (Nastsack) Burgess. Edward was a lifelong Brockton resident and was a graduate of Brockton High school and Brockton Business School. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II where President Truman awarded him a citation for heroism above and beyond the call of duty. He served on the US Idaho where he led the US Missouri into Tokyo for the signing of the peace surrender. After serving in the Navy he was employed with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where he was a Forman in the Traffic Division. He then was the Owner and Operator of the House of Burgess Liquors located in Brockton for several years. After his retirement in 1991 he enjoyed spending time with his family in Harwich and on Cape Cod. While living in Brockton he was a Brockton City Councilor of Ward 5 in 1964 and he was a communicant of St. Colman of Cloyne Church and St. Margaret's Church both in Brockton. Edward enjoyed Gardening and was an avid runner, he ran in many local road races including the Falmouth Road Race. While he was in Harwich he was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church. He also volunteered for the heart Fund and was the past president of the St. Paul's Society. He is survived by his wife, Shirley L. (Creeden) Burgess; his children, Marlene E. Dawson and her husband Robert of Plymouth, Edward S. "Ted" Burgess, Jr. and his wife Gayle of Halifax, James P. Burgess and his wife Noreen of Harwich, and Colleen E. Prosper and her husband Kevin of Bridgewater. Brother of Marty Burgess of Maryland, Lillian Gustafson of Brockton, Muriel Murphy of North Carolina, and Ann Harrington of Virginia; he is also survived by twelve grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Emily Blanchard, Margaret Gentile, Elmer Burgess, Robert Burgess, and Paul Burgess.
Funeral from the Russell Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (RT123) Brockton on Tuesday, October 30th at 8: 00AM thence to St. Colman of Cloyne Church, Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 9: 00AM. JAMES R. CRUISE, 67

James R. Cruise, 67, of Buzzards Bay formerly of Brockton died Friday morning, October 26, 2001 at his home in Wareham after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Dolores (Hurley) Cruise. Born February 12, 1934 in Brockton he was the son of the late James J. Cruise and Helen (West) Cruise he was raised in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School. James served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the Air Force he began his Career working at New England Telephone Company in January of 1956 as a Lineman he continued working until he retired in May of 1987 as a Construction Manager. He held various management positions with New England Telephone Company in Brockton, Cape Cod, Taunton, Braintree, and New Bedford. He was also a consultant for the Telephone Company in the Marlboro Training Center until 2000. While living in Brockton he was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and the Bertocci Club. He was also a communicant of St. John's Church in Pocasset. He loved Horses and Family trips to Ireland. He is survived by his wife, Dolores (Hurley) Cruise; his children, Jay Cruise and his wife Mimi of Centerville, Mark S. Cruise and his wife Sue of East Greenwich, R.I., Timothy Cruise of Randolph, John Cruise of Hawaii, Ann Cruise of Canton, and Nancy Picard of FL; his brother, John W. Cruise of Mashnee Village; he is also survived by eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Helen O'Donnell.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 30th in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton at 10: 00AM. Interment will follow in Oakland Grove Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours in the Russell Funeral Home Tuesday 4: 00-8: 00PM

CHARLES R. GARDNER, 70

Charles R. Gardner, 70, of Brockton died Wednesday morning, October 24, 2001 at the Brockton hospital he was the husband of Dorothy (Cobbett) Gardner of Brockton. Born April 7, 1931 in Norwell he was the son of the late William Gardner and Edna (Jackman) Gardner he graduated from Hanover High School. Mr. Gardner served in the United States Army during World War II. Charles was a retired Truck Driver he had worked for Graziano Concrete Company of Braintree for several years he retired in 1992. He has been a Brockton resident since 1965. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Cobbett) Gardner; his children, Donald C. Gardner of Taunton and Evelyn Fowler and her husband Michael of Brockton; his grandchildren, Michael Gardner and William Fowler both of Brockton; his brothers, George Jackman of New York, Russell Gardner of Pennsylvania , and Richard Gardner of East Bridgewater; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William Gardner and Agnes Best.
A Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 29th in the Russell Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (RT123) Brockton at 11: 00AM. Interment will follow in the Massachusetts VA National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 West Chestnut St., Brockton, Ma.02301. DALE L. (HARRIS) SIMMONS, 42

Dale L. (Harris) Simmons, 42 of Raynham died Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at the Morton Hospital in Taunton after being stricken ill at her home. She was the wife of George L. Simmons. Born November 7, 1958 in brockton she was the daughter of Richard and Joan (Callahan) Harris of Pembroke. Dale graduated from Silver Lake High School class of 1976. Dale was a deli clerk at Shaws Supermarket in Raynham for over 20 years. She was a Raynham resident for 16 years and prior to that she lived in Pembroke. She was a communicant of St. Ann's Church in Raynham.She is survived by her husband, George L. Simmons of Raynham; Her children, Cory J. Simmons, Chad M. Simmons, and Kelsey L. Simmons all of Raynham; her parents, Richard and Joan (Callahan) Harris of Pembroke; her brothers, Danna Harris of Halifax and Wayne Harris of Pembroke; her close friend, Sue Jones of Kingston; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Michael T. Deehan, 43, of San Diego, California formerly of Brockton died Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at his home after a lengthy illness. Born in Brockton he was the son of William J. Deehan, Jr. and Gail A. (Tucker) Deehan of west Bridgewater. Michael was a graduate of Brockton High School before attending the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and he was retired from the United States Navy. Michael has been a resident in San Diego, California for nearly 20 years. He is survived by his Brothers and Sisters, William J. Deehan, III., of Bridgewater, Mark Deehan, and Kevin Deehan both of San Clemente, California, Kathleen Norville of West Bridgewater, Susan Hopton, Ellen Magnone, and Kerry Deehan all of Obispo, California; also survived by several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews.
A private family funeral service was held on Monday, October 8th in San Clemente, California. Local arrangements by the Russell Funeral Home, Brockton.

Jefferey Jason Smith, 38, of Brockton died Thursday, October 11, 2001 in Taunton. Born January 7, 1963 in Boston he was the son of Marie (Rue) Smith and John Smith of Brockton. Raised in Boston he graduated from Boston English High school and was a member of the Roxbury Boys Club. A Brockton resident for the last 14 years, Jefferey was an auto mechanic working at Auto Sound in Middleton, Ma for the last 8 months prior he had worked at Belmont Shell Service station and Forest Avenue Auto both in Brockton. Jefferey enjoyed automobiles, swimming, boating, and camping. He is survived by his children, Quinel J. Eutsay, Jefferey J. Eutsay, Brianha Ramsett, Jonathan McCoy, Christian Akerbloom, JJ Akerbloom, Derian Stillwell, Tara Vierra, and the late Lucian Michael Stillwell-Smith; His brothers and sisters, Michael J. Smith, Michelle J. Smith, Mark J. Smith, Marla J. Smith-Akumanyi, and Jennifer JJ Smith; his nieces and nephews, Marcel, mark, Tanisha, Patrice, Jamaal, Jarrett, Myles, Mariah, and Ariel.
Funeral service will be held in the Russell Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Wednesday, October 17th at 7: 00PM. Cremation will take place in Woodlawn Crematory, North Attleboro. MARGARET T. (MATTA) CIRCELLO, 71

Margaret T. (Matta) Circello, 71, a lifelong Brockton resident died Thursday evening, October 11, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center after being stricken ill at home. She was the wife of the late Frank A. Circello. Born May 31, 1930 in Brockton she was the daughter of the late John and Bedara Matta. Margaret attended Brockton Schools. Margaret was a housewife and a communicant of St. Theresa Maronite Catholic Church in Brockton and she enjoyed playing Bingo and the lottery. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Green and her husband John of Brockton; her granddaughter, Lily Mei Green; her sister Marie George of California; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late George Matta, Mitchell Matta, and Peter Matta.

Helen L. (Koch)(Hall) Brown, 75, of Zephyrhills, Florida formerly of Brockton died in Pasco Regional Medical Center, Florida Sunday morning, October 7, 2001 after a brief illness. She was the wife of Lynwood J. Brown. Born July 2, 1926 in Pittston, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Howard and Helen (Pragnell) Koch. Mrs. Brown served in the United States Womens Army Corp during WW II. Helen moved to Brockton in 1961 after living in Holbrook. While in Brockton she was the owner and operator of Jo-Lee Day Care Center on Lewiston Street in Brockton for over 17 years. She enjoyed local and state wide politics. She was a member and past president of the Brockton Democratic City Committee and was an avid supporter of Frank Bellotti. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Brockton and enjoyed collecting dolls. While living in Florida she worked and eventually owned and operated Little Rascals Day Care Center for nearly 10 years. She is survived by her husband, Lynwood Brown; her children, Joseph Rindone, Jr. and his wife Kathleen A. of East Bridgewater, Roger L. "Lee" Hall of Taunton, and Scott D. Brown and his wife Concepcion M. of Virginia; her grandchildren, Marisa R. Rindone, Kelly M. Rindone, Brandi Jo Hall all of East Bridgewater, Brendan J. Hall of Whitman, Christopher J. Brown, and Alexandra J. Brown both of Virginia; her brothers and sisters, Howard Koch of New York, Richard Koch, Billy Dracksley both of Florida, Ruthie Taylor of Weymouth, and Jeanne McDuffy of New York; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert Koch.
Funeral services will be held in the Russell Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Friday, October 12, 2001 at 11: 00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Born September 30, 1920 in Fogo, Cape Verde she came to Brockton in 1981 and has been a Brockton resident since. Maria was a housewife devoted to her home and her family and was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Brockton. She is survived by her husband, James A. Fontes of Brockton; her children, Eujanio Fontes, Euguna Depina, John Fontes and his wife Maria, Francisco Fontes and his wife Maria, and Maria Fontes and her husband Joaquim all of Brockton; Maria is also survived by eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Born March 30, 1930 in Boston she was the daughter of the late Arthur Donnelly and Geraldine (Lane) Donnelly. Patricia graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Boston. Mrs. Donnelly was retired after working several years at the MainSpring Shelter home in Brockton. She also was a volunteer at Bingo for over ten years at Cardinal Spellman High School. She is survived by her children, Catherine Sexton and her husband John of Rochester, Arthur Donnelly and his wife Janine of Maine, Annemarie Donnelly of Brockton, Gregory Donnelly of Bridgewater, Geraldine McKean of Raynham, and the late Paul Donnelly; her grandchildren, Shawn, Mark, Nicholas, Katie Anne, Megan, Paul, Amanda, Kerri-Anne, Kelsie, Scott, and Tammy; her great grandchildren, Justine and Erin; her sister, Alice Molineaux of Jamaica Plain; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Evelyn Harrington.

Philip Kavgic, 76 of Brockton died Sunday, November 11, 2001 at his home in Brockton. Born September 26, 1925 in Yugoslavia he was the son of the late Milanko and Vera Kavgic. Philip was a retired Machinist 1st Class and had worked at Peterson Machine Company in Stoughton for several years. Philip has been a Brockton resident for over 50 years. He is survived by his son, George Kavgic of West Wareham; his daughter, Paula Anderson of Bridgewater; he is also survived by six grandchildren. Graveside service will be held in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton on Friday, December 7th at 1: 00PM. The Rev. John Kiramarios will officiate.
