Ziphrin N. “Zip” Patelcuis, 90, of Marshfield, formerly of Avon and Brockton, died on Monday at Life Care Center in West Bridgewater after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Rena M. (Howard) Patelcuis. He was born in Brockton on January 31, 1914, son of the late John and Veronica (Tarmoivicz) Patelcuis. He was employed as a machinist for Westinghouse for many years. He resided in Avon prior to moving to Marshfield. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed taxidermy and was a member of Black Mallard Sportsmen’s Club. He is survived by a brother-in-law Fred Howard of Green Harbor, a close friend Alphonse J. Statkowski of Bridgewater and godchild Lorna Pecorelli of Norton and nephews. He was father of the late Gail A. Patelcuis and brother of the late Zenon “Potsy” Pateline and Alex Pateline. His funeral will be on Thursday at noon in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton followed by burial at Pine Hill Cemetery in West Bridgewater at a later date.

Andrew M. Talbert Jr., 62, of Canton, MA, died Aug. 22, 2008. Andy was a native of Chicago, Illinois and served in the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam War era in Asia and Europe. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from University of Illinois at Chicago and a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Governor’s State University in Chicago. Andy had resided in Chicago, Baltimore, North Carolina, Vermont, New Hampshire, Washington State, Philadelphia and Columbus, Ohio for 11 years prior to coming to Canton in November of 2006. Employed in health care, he worked for the private sector and was in civil service from 1974-1978 and 1987-1993 when he retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs. He had taught high school and developed substance abuse treatment and back-to-work skills programs in past years and was in private consulting. While in Columbus, Ohio, he was a past president of Rotary and member American College of Health Care Executives. He had volunteered for hospice programs while in Philadelphia and Columbus. Andy enjoyed reading, playing poker and dominoes, cooking and fishing and was learning to play guitar and speak Spanish. He was the beloved husband of Judith for 33 years, loving father of Jennifer & her husband Robert Hawk of Philadelphia, kind master of G’Kar, brother of John Weston & Philip Talbert of Alabama, brother-in-law of Lisa & Russell Mondy of Elk Grove, CA, dear nephew of Barbara Sherrod of Battle Creek, MI, uncle & cousin of many and a longtime friend of Bill W. Florence E. (Hollis) Peterson, lifelong of Brockton, passed away on August 13, 2008 after a period of failing health. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her grandchildren. She was the wife of the late Arthur E. Peterson, beloved mother of Donald Rogerson (and his late wife Shirley) of Newark, New York, Marcia Issa (and her husband Joseph) of Brockton and the late Sunya Peterson, loving grandmother of Sarah Issa, Darlene Wassink, Thomas Rogerson and James Rogerson, great-grandmother of 7, great-great-grandmother of 5, and sister of the late Gladys Lemeir, Laurence, Roy and Bill Hollis. Richard J. Duarte, 40, lifelong of Brockton, died unexpectedly August 12, 2008. He was a member of Sheetmetal Workers Union Local 17. Rick was a black belt in karate and was an instructor locally. He loved sports, fishing and playing golf. Rick was the beloved husband of Dena (Hadges) Duarte, loving father of Alexander and Nicholas, son of Ronald and Janet (Avery) Duarte of Taunton, brother of Ronald Duarte, Elizabeth Duarte and Rhonda Gauthier, all of New Hampshire, Robert Duarte and Robin Jones, both of Taunton and uncle of many. Marie Carmel Gabriel-Gelin, 36, of Stoughton and Brockton, died unexpectedly Aug. 5, 2008. Native of Haiti, she was a daughter of Marie Gabriel and the late Kernizan Elveus. She was employed in the financial industry. She was the wife of Andry Gelin, loving mother of Ashley, Stanley, Christina and Carmello, beloved sister of Rose Venette (and her husband Mike Venette) and Jean-Marie Gabriel and aunt of Jamear and Jalen Venette. Chester L. Goucher, 82, of West Bridgewater, died peacefully Aug. 10 at Baypointe in Brockton. Born in Whitman, son of the late Edward and Lillian (Peterson) Goucher, he was educated there and in Nova Scotia and graduated from Quincy Trade School and Old Colony Trade School in Brockton. He served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. He was a plumber by trade for Deacon Plumbing in Stoughton and McLean Hospital in Belmont and retired after 20 years from Cardinal Cushing General Hospital. He was a member of First Church in West Bridgewater, Northeast Fiddlers Association and Maritime Fiddle Association and a former Scoutmaster in West Bridgewater. He enjoyed playing the fiddle, squaredancing, hunting, fishing, camping, leather work, chair caning and tapping maple syrup. He was the beloved husband of Muriel (Ryder) for 57 years, loving father of William (and his wife Debra) of Brockton, Karen Piazza (and her husband Joseph) of Quincy and Charles (and his wife Amy) of West Bridgewater, dear grandfather of Kyle and Corey Piazza, Robert, Andrew “A.J.” and Matthew Goucher, brother of Robert of New York and the late June Pierce and Stanley Goucher. Milton D. Plourde, known as “Bumpa”, 93, lifelong of Brockton, died Aug. 9, 2008 after a lengthy illness surrounded by his family at the V.A. Medical Center. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II as a TSgt. with the 15thAF 745th Bomb Squadron. As a member of the crew of ten of a B-24 “Paper Doll” shot down over Klagenfurt, Austria, he was held by the Germans as a prisoner of war for 13 months and 7 days. He co-owned Plourde Display, worked at General Dynamics, and was a nursing aide retired from the Brockton V.A. Medical Center. He was a member of VFW Post 1046, DAV and 456th Bomb Group Association and enjoyed woodworking and was a former member and tourguide for Brockton Historical Society. He was the husband of the late Mary (McLaughlin) Plourde, beloved father of Michael (and his wife Gail) Plourde of Brockton and Jonathan Plourde of Seekonk, devoted grandfather of Michelle and Michael Plourde of Brockton, dear great-grandfather of Craig Faria III, brother of Lorraine Adams of Hopkinton and the late Reginald and Jeannette Plourde and Muriel Sadlier and uncle of many. Bradford J. Zaparesky, 57, of Brockton for the past 20 years, died August 9, 2008. Native of Connecticut, Brad worked as a claims manager for Lexington Insurance in Boston for the past 26 years. Brad enjoyed motorcycle riding, playing golf and shooting at Holbrook Sportsmen’s Club. Hilda V. (Turgeon) Webster, 93, of Brockton, died July 27, 2008. Born and raised in Fall River, she resided there and worked as a hand stitcher at various firms and was a member of ILGWU. She moved to Brockton in 1965 and enjoyed traveling and singing. Wife of the late Everett J. Webster Sr., she was the beloved mother of Marilyn F. Vincent John “JD” D’Andrea Jr., 16, of Lakeville and South Weymouth, died tragically by accident on August 1, 2008. Raised in Weymouth and East Bridgewater, JD was a student at Apponequet Regional High School and he enjoyed skateboarding, basketball, boxing, motorcycle and dirtbike riding and going to the beach. JD was the beloved son of Vincent J. D’Andrea of South Weymouth and Ellen (Simpson) Alemian (and her husband Edward) of Lakeville, loving brother of Michael V. D’Andrea of South Weymouth, Daniel Decourcy of Rockland, Jodi Decourcy of Taunton, John Decourcy, Nicole Alemian, Alis Alemian and Anoush Alemian, all of Lakeville, grandson of Madeline Simpson and Fred Cucinata of Milton and the late Mary and John D’Andrea, uncle of Dominic Hernandez and Daniel Decourcy Jr., nephew and cousin of many, boyfriend of Stephanie Rooslet of Lakeville and a friend of many. Floyd W. “Butch” Knochel, 63, of South Easton for the past 10 years, died August 2, 2008. Raised in Pennsylvania , he also resided in Brockton and West Bridgewater. Employed in the glass industry, he was with Pilkington Glass prior to being warehouse supervisor at Mygrant Glass in Braintree for the past eight years. Butch loved sports and enjoyed managing and playing softball for local leagues and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Arthur D. Martin, 67, lifelong of Brockton, died Aug. 1, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Son of the late Arthur and Gloria (Martelli) Martin, he was a 1959 graduate of Brockton High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was employed as a deli manager for First National store for 20 years and then worked for the City of Brockton and Waste Management. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Arthur was the beloved husband of Evelyn (Shimkus), loving father of Stephen Martin, Lt. Christopher Martin, B.F.D. Georgie “The General” Douglas, 61, of Brockton since 1964, died July 30, 2008. He worked at Boston College, Brockton Hospital, Brockton Park Department and YMCA. Leocadia “Lee” Cheromcha, 93, of Florida and Marshfield, died on July 27, 2008. A graduate of Brockton High School, Lee was an office manager at the Seattle, Washington office of the Archbishop of Seattle then at Calo Company in Hanover. While here she was a communicant of Our Lady of Ostrobrama Church. She resided in Sunrise, Florida for the past 30 years, summered at Rexhame Beach in Marshfield and enjoyed playing bingo and cards. Rudolph E. Valant, 87, of Halifax Mobile Estates, formerly of Brockton, died July 22, 2008. Born and raised in Brockton, he was a 1938 graduate of Brockton High School. Rudy was a farmer on Cary Hill for many years and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. He was the beloved husband of Mildred (Reed) Valant for 61 years, loving father of Diane Desautels-Morin (and her husband Roland Morin) of Wareham and Reed Valant (and his wife Jayne) of East Bridgewater, devoted grandfather of Romeo LaBonte, Paul LaBonte, Juliane May, Reed Valant, Sarah Valant and Lauren Valant, a dear great-grandfather and brother of the late Ellen Stripinis and uncle of her sons. Michael J. “Bart” Hamill, 44, lifelong of Brockton, died July 28, 2008. He served in the U.S. Army from 1982-1985 and in the Army National Guard. He formerly worked at Alden Products and Avon Tape and for the past 20 years he was employed as a groundskeeper for D.W. Field Park Golf Course. He was a member and past vice president of Polish White Eagles and enjoyed ice fishing and woodworking. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine, loving son of Bridie and Fred Swanson, all of Brockton, brother of Donald Hamill of Las Vegas, Fred Swanson of Las Vegas, Karen Roche of Tennessee, Kristin Nolan of East Bridgewater and Kathy Goetsch of Florida and uncle of many nieces and nephews. The husband of the late Georgia (Leontos), Carl was the beloved father of Carl “Nick” Smith (and his wife Mary) and G. Scott Smith (and his wife Mary), all of Brockton, loving grandfather of Christopher, Adam, Scott Richard, Erin and Michael, brother of Marjorie Walsh of Bridgewater and the late Joseph L. Smith. Katherine A. “Kay” (Danksewicz) Waitt, 85, of Brockton, was born on March 4, 1923 and died July 5, 2008. Native of Abington, she was a 1940 graduate of Abington High School where she was captain of the girls’ basketball team. Married to Edward J. Waitt since July 12, 1942, she assisted him at Waitt Funeral Home for many years. Kay was active in women’s clubs and St. Casimir School and Church activities, took community school courses and enjoyed many crafts until becoming blind. Kay was the loving mother of Ed Waitt Jr. M.D. (and Cathy) of New Orleans, Ken Waitt (and Jean) of Hanover, Jan (and Steve Schlerf) of New Hampshire and Lisa (and Greg Belcher) of West Bridgewater and the late Christine Rose; and beloved grandmother of Ted Waitt, John and Mike Schlerf and Ryan and Julie Belcher.
