Holyoke-Waldemar Velazquez, 69, of Essex Street, died Monday morning at the Holyoke Hospital. Born February 13, 1934 in Humacao, Puerto Rico to parents Ismael and Rosa (Gonzales) Velazquez. He grew up in New York and went to school there before going into the Army until 1957. He was a very Patriotic individual. He was a maintenance worker and a loving father. He leaves his daughter Monica Acevedo of Chicopee, brother Tony Velazquez of Holyoke, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, 1 niece and 1 nephew. CALLING HOURS WILL BE TONIGHT AT THE CZELUSNIAK FUNERAL HOME OF NORTHAMPTON FROM 6PM-9PM. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday at 11am at St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Hospice of Holyoke.

MCQUESTON
Of Hadley, July 27th, Ruth Stella McQueston, 89, of West Street. Sister of Helen B. McQueston. Devoted aunt and great-aunt. The Funeral will be Wednesday at 11am at the First Congregational Church of Hadley with burial in Olde Hadley Cemetery. CALLING HOURS WILL BE THIS EVENING FROM 5PM UNTIL 8PM AT THE PEASE FUNERAL HOME, 425 Prospect Street, Northampton. CONNER
In Greenfield, July 25, 2003, Joseph G. 'Cy' Conner, of Shelburne, and a former longtime Northampton resident. Husband of the late Alice (Wheeler) Conner. He is survived by 2 nieces, Paula Flint and Judy Richardson, 3 great nieces Brenda Bowie, Pamela Stinson and Amy Bowie-Elias, and several other nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be Friday morning 9:30am from the AHEARN FUNERAL HOME IN NORTHAMPTON, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Mary's Church at 10:30am. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. CALLING HOURS ARE THURSDAY FROM 4PM-7PM.

PATILLO
Of Northampton, July 25, 2003, Andre Matthew Patillo, 26, of 14 Autumn Drive. Survived by his parents Anthony and Vicki (Mocarski) Patillo, a brother Marc A. Patillo, a stepbrother Adrian Jones, his maternal grandfather Matthew Mocarski, his paternal grandmother Esther Patillo, and many beloved relatives and friends. The Funeral will be Tuesday morning 11am at the AHEARN FUNERAL HOME in Northampton. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery. CALLING HOURS ARE MONDAY FROM 3PM-7PM.

DAWSON
Of Northampton, July 23, 2003, Beverly A. (Geru) Dawson, 73, of 56 Market St. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Ernest E. Dawson, 4 sons Thomas E. Dawson-Greene, Ronald J. Dawson, James E. Dawson and Carl E. Dawson, 2 daughters Donna M. Lynde, and Barbara J. Sylvester, 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be Monday morning at 10am in St. John's Episcopal Church in Northampton. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery in Chesterfield. LELAND
Virginia Churchill Leland, age 98, of Florence, MA, died on January 31, 2003, in Wilmington, DE.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2pm on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at Florence Congregational Church, 130 Pine Street, Florence, MA (413) 584-1325.

HERSHKOWITZ
Of Amherst, Evelyn Hershkowitz, 85, most recent of Long Beach, NY, died at home on Wednesday. Wife of the late Abraham Hershkowitz. Mother of Gerald and Richard Hersh. Sister of Florence Dolgin. Grandmother of four. A graveside service was held today in New Montefiore Cemetery in Pinelawn, NY. THERE WERE NO CALLING HOURS.

ROBERTS
A graveside Memorial Service for Gilbert (Sonny) Roberts Jr., formerly of Ashfield, Wallingford, VT and Ocala, FL, who died November 10, 2002 in Ocala FL will be July 19, at 9:15am at the Plain Cemetery in Ashfield. Eulogy by Robert Gates, hymn by Doug Molleson. Mr. Roberts was the son of Dorothy Harrison and Gilbert Roberts Sr., (deceased.) He is survived by wife Barbara Johnson, 2 sons Gilbert III and Michael and 2 daughters Tina and Kimberly, as well as 6 grandchildren.

Powers of Middleton and his wife Bernadette, Andrew W. Powers of Lynn and Susan M. Lincoln of Northampton and her husband Roger. Sister of Robert Evans of Pepperel, Maureen LeGault of Marblehead, Ursula LeBlanc of Woonsocket, RI and Elizabeth Healey of Woburn. Grandmother of 7. Sister of the late Kenneth Evans and Elaine Evans Healey. Funeral from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, on Thursday at 8:30am. BABYOK
Thomas Babyok, 50, of Ayer Rd., Harvard, died Saturday, July 12 in Apple Valley Continuous Caring Facility in Ayers. He was born November 5, 1952 in Holyoke, the son of Georgette Nepus Babyok and the late Howard J. Babyok. He attended Holyoke Schools and graduated from Berkley School of Music in Boston. He was employed by EMC Corp of Boston as a computer technician and previously with Digital Corporation, Westfield until its closing. He played guitar in the former Coming Generations of Springfield and the Private Eyes of CT. He was also a mentor and instructor in playing the guitar. Besides his mother of Harvard, surviving are 3 brothers Howard J. Babyok, Jr. of Shirley, Timothy J. Babyok of Easthampton and Gerry Babyok of Baltimore, MD., one sister Mary Elizabeth Harris of Baltimore, MD. The funeral will be Wednesday morning at 10am in the MITCHELL FUNERAL HOME, with burial in Brookside Cemetery, both of Easthampton. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE FUNERAL HOME TUESDAY EVENING, 6PM-8PM.

KENNEDY
Agnes G. Kennedy, 101, of Lathrop St., South Hadley, died July 10, 2003, in Cozy Corner Nursing Home, Sunderland. She was born in Holyoke on November 16, 1901 to the late James and Mary (Kelliher) Kennedy. Agnes was a beautiful lady loved by all. She lived a long, beautiful life. For many years, Agnes was the manager of the Jean Hat Shop; worked at Childs Shoe Store and at Dorothy Dodds. Her two sisters, Mae Bradley and Margaret Grady, as well as three brothers, Thomas, James, and Leo Kennedy, all predeceased her. Agnes is survived by her nephew, Thomas Kennedy of South Hadley, with whom she made her home; several nieces and nephews; and a great-niece and great-nephew. A CALLING HOUR WILL BE HELD TUESDAY MORNING 9AM TO 10AM with a service at 9:30am at the RYDER FUNERAL HOME, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Charity of One's Choice.

JOHNSTON
Evan V. Johnston passed away July 6, 2003 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. He was born August 22, 1924 in Easthampton, MA, the son of the late Earl N. and Helena F. (Ferguson) Johnston. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years during World War II as a carrier fighter pilot, and after the war, he returned to the University of Massachusetts, graduating in 1950. He reenlisted in he Navy Air Corp. during the Korean War and was based in Hawaii. He is survived by his daughter, Leigh Myers of Tampa, FL, Elizabeth Johnston Brosella of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and son, Paul W. Johnston of Tucson, Arizona, a grandson, Cole Evan Borsella, two step-grandchildren, David Myers and Kimberly Perry, a step great grandchild, Rebecca Perry and two sisters, Jean J. Washington, formerly of Easthampton and Roberta J. Tischler of Northampton, MA and several nieces and nephews. Evan will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his tireless dedication to helping others. His life serves as an inspiration for so many who knew and loved him. Internment will be at Brookside Cemetery of Williston Ave., in Easthampton, MA at 4pm Thursday, July 17th, followed by a celebration of Evan's life at the World War II Veteran's Building at 50 Conz St., Northampton, MA at 5pm. The O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Department of Veterans' Services, City of Northampton, 240 Main Street, #4, 01060-3113.

FRIEDMAN
Northampton - Jerome M. 'Jerry' Friedman, 54, of Northampton died Tuesday at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield, he was a graduate of Classical High School and the University of MA. He lived in Ft. Wayne, IN and then moved to Northampton, MA. He was a professional musician who often donated his time for benefit performances. Currently he was doing marketing for the 'Villa Jidiots Comedy Troup' in Northampton. After losing his voice for 20 years, and then finally regaining it, he became an activist and speaker for compassionate mental health treatment. He leaves his sister Norma Friedman of Ft. Wayne, IN. A memorial service will be held Sunday July 13th at 3pm at the Pioneer Valley Shambahala Center, 102 Russell St., Hadley, MA and in Ft. Wayne at Achduth Vesholom Temple, 5200 Old Mill Rd., date and time pending. The HAROLD R. ASCHER and SON MEMORIAL CHAPEL is assisting the family. SARKISIAN
Richard N. Sarkisian, 47, of 474 Wilder Hill Road, Conway, died Sunday, December 21 at Buckley Health Care in Greenfield. He was born in Boston, May 26, 1956 the son of George K. and Nina (Bast) Sarkisian. He was a 1974 graduate of Watertown (MA) High School and a graduate of Stockbridge School in Agriculture in Amherst. He was also a graduate of the former Brom's Academy in Holyoke. Sarkisian was a barber at Harold and Son's Place in Brattleboro, VT., until ill health prevented him from working. He was a member of Christ Church in Greenfield, He enjoyed playing basketball, camping, fishing and gardening. Survivors besides his mother of Watertown include his wife the former Sandra L. Robinson; 4 sons William G., Charles R., Daniel F., Cory M. all at home; 2 daughters Ruth L. and Anna G. also at home; 1 brother George W. Sarkisian of Watertown; 1 sister Lisa Gregorian-Glassman of Belmont, MA and 2 nephews and 3 nieces. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 23 at 11am at College Church, Pomeroy Terrace, Northampton, MA. Burial will be in Howland Cemetery in Conway in the spring. THERE ARE NO CALLING HOURS.
