Richard S. Adams, Marine Corps veteran
July 27, 2000

Richard S. Adams, 67, of Topsfield, died Sunday, July 23, at his home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Barbara (White) Adams.

Mr. Adams was born in Beverly, the son of the late Arthur and Mildred (Lunt) Adams. He was a graduate of Beverly High School and received his bachelor's degree from Rivier College.

A resident of the Beverly and Topsfield area most of his life, he was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, having served with the Third Armored, and also an Army veteran having served as a helicopter door gunner during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the combat infrantryman's badge, also the air medal.

Mr. Adams retired from the Federal Aviation Administration after 30 years and then became the veteran's service agent for the Town of Topsfield. He was a member of the Topsfield Planning Board, the Conservation Commission, the 350th celebration committee, the present secretary and treasurer of the Topsfield Lions and also the president of the Lions eye mobile, a member of the Topsfield VFW Post 225 and the American Legion.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: a daughter and son-in-law, Kendra and George Berube of Topsfield; two sons, Richard and his wife, Irene Adams of Plantation, Fla., and Patrick "PJ" Adams and his fiance, Kelly Cunningham of Lynn; one brother, Arthur "Bud" Adams Jr. of Beverly; four grandchildren, Tyler Berube, Ricky, Ashley and Lindsey Adams; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 29, at 9 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Topsfield.

Rita E. Nadeau, Long-time Danvers resident
July 27, 2000

Rita E. (LeClair) Nadeau, 78, of Danvers, wife of the late Henry J. Nadeau died Thursday, July 20 at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Beverly where she had resided due to illness.

Born in Salem, Feb. 28, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Alfred T. and Yvonne (Michaud) LeClair. Mrs. Nadeau was raised and in Salem and had resided in Danvers for the past 50 years.

She had been a retired assembler for General Electric in Wilmington and was an avid bingo player.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James Nadeau and his wife Penny of Beverly and John Nadeau and his wife Penny of Wrentham; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Crosby and her husband James of Danvers; a brother, Norman LeClair of New York; two sisters, Lorraine Lewis of Florida and Eileen Martin of Topsfield; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Marjorie Leonard and Robert LeClair.

Her funeral was held Monday, July 24, from the CR Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, Danvers followed by a funeral Mass in St. Richard's Church, Danvers. Burial was in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to St. Richard Parish, 88 Forest St. Danvers, MA 01923.

Ann M. Brown, Worked at Schrafft's
July 20, 2000

Ann M. (Burke) Brown, 75, of Beverly, wife of John A. Brown, died Friday, July 14 at Beverly Hospital.

Born in Malden, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Agnew (McGowan) Burke, she was raised in Malden. Mrs. Brown graduated from Girls Catholic High School in Malden in the Class of 1942. Following high school, Mrs. Brown was employed in the payroll department of Schrafft's Candy Company. She had been a resident of Beverly for 39 years.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and took great pride in caring for her family. She was dedicated to their well-being and happiness and took joy in all of their accomplishments. Mrs. Brown enjoyed traveling. She had visited most of the United States and many European destinations with her family,

Surviving her, in addition to her husband, with whom she shared 46 years of marriage, are: a son, Timothy Brown of Lynn; two daughters, Mary Brown of San Diego, Calif., and Kathleen Brown of Beverly; one daughter-in-law, Kristen Brown of Beverly; and two grandsons, Jason and Scott Brown of Beverly. She was also the mother of the late John and Christopher Brown and sister of the late Dorothy Diaz.

A memorial Mass will be held in her memory in November. The family requested no visiting hours. Arrangements were made by the Campbell Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to the New England Hemophilia Association, 180 Rustcraft Road, Suite 101, Dedham, MA 02026.

Arnold P. Iveson, Mason member, veteran
July 20, 2000

Arnold P. Iveson, 75, of Beverly, husband of the late Hazel L. (Balser) Iveson, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 12.

Mr. Iveson was born in Lynn and had been a resident of Beverly for many years. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School and was an Army veteran of World War II. Prior to retirement, Mr. Iveson was employed for many years at GTE Sylvania in Danvers. He was a member of the Wayfarers Masonic Lodge AF and AM in Swampscott, Northshore Daylight Lodge in Beverly, Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington, member and past master of the Benjamin F. Arrington Masonic Lodge in Lynn, and was a member and past high priest of the Washington Royal Arch Chapter in Salem.

Mr. Iveson is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jan L. and John Lucas; and son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Donna Iveson of Framingham and two grandsons, Jeffrey and Christopher Iveson of Framingham.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 15 in the Lee, Moody and Russell Funeral Homes Beverly. Burial was in the North Beverly Cemetery.

Chris Soulios, Founder of Signet Tool
July 20, 2000

Chris Soulios, 72, died Monday, July 17, 2000 in Beverly at his home, surrounding by loved ones, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was the husband of Jean (McCarthy) Soulios, with whom he shared 28 years of marriage. Born in Piracus, Greece, Feb. 20, 1928, he was the son of the late Chrissanthi (Koukouli) and Nickolas Soulios of Athens, Greece.

Upon his graduation from Efestos College in Athens, he served in the Greek Navy and emigrated to the United States in 1952. He served in the Unites States Army reaching the rank of sergeant.

Mr. Soulios founded Signet Tool and Engineering Inc., Everett in 1959 and later relocated his company to Saugus than to its current location in Peabody.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Christopher Soulios of Beverly; four daughters, Alexis Soulios of Brighton, Chrissa Bates and her husband, William, of Georgetown, Ellen Miller of Wakefield, Diane Barry of Billerica; five grandsons; two sisters, Chrisanthi Christodoulou of Lynn, Stacia Skouffi of Patra, Greece; on brother, Kosta Soulios of Piracus, Greece; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Dora Wright.

The funeral will be held Friday at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, Friday at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Beverly. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, 01701 or to North Shore Cancer Center, 17 Centennial Dr., Peabody, 01960.

Clinton H. Condon Sr., Owner of cleaners
July 20, 2000

Clinton Hale Condon Sr., 68, of Haverhill, died Thursday, July 13 at his son's home in Boxford.

He was born in Thomaston, Maine, Oct. 6, 1931, son of the late Albert and May (Leland) Condon.

He was educated in Thomaston and New Bedford, school systems and graduated from Thomaston High School, class of 1950. While living in Thomaston he was employed as a boat builder.

He resided in Beverly for 26 years prior to moving to Haverhill 10 years ago.

For several years he was employed at Admiral Folding Box, Methuen, and more recently owned and operated Hilldale Cleaners on Hilldale Ave., Haverhill, from where he retired in the mid-1990s.

Mr. Condon enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and great-granddaughter, boating and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lucille F. (Smith) Condon, Haverhill; a son, Clinton H. Condon Jr. and his wife, Susan C. of Boxford; three daughters, Kathleen J. and her husband, Ted Mlynarski of Thomaston, Maine; Susan M. Condon of Lynn, Maureen P. Kinsor of Lynn; a brother, Everett and his wife, Roma Condon of New Bedford; a sister-in-law, Jean Condon of Fairhaven; five grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were private and at the convenience of the family with burial in Roadside Cemetery, Friendship, Maine.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 66-Y Concord St., Wilmington 01887-2100.

Arrangements were by H.L. Farmer & Sons, 106 Summer St., Haverhill.

Daisy A. McRae, Active in Legion Auxiliary
July 20, 2000

Daisy A. (Spear) McRae, 82, of Seabrook, N.H., wife of the late Leonard McRae, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 11, at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport. Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Daisy (O'Brien) Spear, she had lived in Beverly most of her life. She had been in New Hampshire for the past eight years.

Mrs. McRae had been employed with W.T. Grants, Jordan Marsh, and retired from Sears and Roebuck in 1983. She worked in sales and also the credit department.

Mrs. McRae was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary at the Herman A. Spear Post 331. she was also a member of the Clan Wallace of Beverly, chaperone for the Beverly Cardinals Drum and Bugle Corp. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing.

Surviving her are: two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Kathleen McRae of Exeter, N.H., Paul and Kathleen McRae of Haulula, Hawaii; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marilyn McRae of Seabrook, N.H., Lois and John Kelleher of Amesbury; two brothers, Jack Spear of Methuen and Carl Spear of Beverly; two sisters Beverly Whenal of Beverly, Grace Barter of S. Effingham, N.H.; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Rodman, Herman, Stuart, James, and Eugene Spear, and Priscilla Bouchard.

Funeral services were held at the Campbell Funeral Home Friday, July 14.

Doris I. Glidden, School of Nursing grad
July 20, 2000

Doris Irene (Wykes) Glidden, 88, wife of the late Roy P. Glidden, died Tuesday, July 11 at the Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield.

Mrs. Glidden was born in Merrimac the daughter of the late Ernest A. and Mildred (Messer) Wykes.

She was a registered nurse and retired in 1974 from Salem Hospital. She was a graduate of the Beverly Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1933 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beverly.

Mrs. Glidden is survived by her son, Forrest Wells Standley Jr. of Arlington, Texas, a daughter, Winifred G. Hirano of California, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held on Saturday, July 15, in the North Beverly Cemetery, Beverly.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Baptist Church, 221 Cabot St., Beverly, MA 01915.

Arrangements were by the Lee, Moody and Russell Funeral Home, Beverly.

Eleanor W. Elwell, Member of First Church
July 20, 2000

Eleanor W. Elwell, 86, wife of the late Dr. Almont S. Elwell, died Sunday, July 16 after a brief illness.

Mrs. Elwell was born in Portland, Maine, the daughter of the late Everett S. and Molly I. (Sawyer) Wilson.

She and her late husband had shared 49 years of marriage and had been residents of Wenham for many years. Mrs. Elwell was a member of the First Church in Wenham and was a former member of the Wenham Council on Aging.

Mrs. Elwell had an abiding love and concern for her family, her friends and other people.

Mrs. Elwell is survived by: two daughters and a son-in-law, Jane Elwell of Wenham and Ann E. and Richard J. Butterworth of Hamilton; a son and daughter-in-law John W. and Gayle G. Elwell of Montoursville, Penna.; and five grandchildren, Kelly, Scott, and Brian Butterworth, Jeffrey and Kevin Elwell.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 22 in the Lee, Moody and Russell Funeral Home, 9 Dane St., Beverly at 11 a.m. A visiting hour will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.
