Kenneth M. DiFranza

Thursday, June 12, 2003

BILLERICA - Kenneth M. DiFranza, 45, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington after a brief illness. He was the husband of Jeannine (Bedard) DiFranza.

He was born in Arlington on June 28, 1957, the son of Mario and Mary (Caristo) DiFranza of Tewksbury. Mr. DiFranza lived in Arlington and Bedford before moving to Billerica five years ago.

Mr. DiFranza served in the U.S. Navy.

He was employed at the Kmart Warehouse in the receiving department for the past six years. He had also worked seasonally at Corinthians Yacht Club in Marblehead for the past 11 years.

Mr. DiFranza enjoyed the outdoors.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, Ryan and Sean DiFranza, both of Billerica; two sisters, Marsha Fallon and her husband, Arthur of Townsend, and Karen DiFranza and her husband, Robin Langer of Hubbardston.

He is also survived by his former wife, Lisa DiFranza.

A funeral was held June 2, from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home in Billerica. Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Lola Fiorenza

ARLINGTON - Lola (Santoni) Fiorenza, 89, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was the wife of the late Salvatore F. Fiorenza.

She was born in Boston and had been a longtime Arlington resident.

She is survived by a son, Edward Fiorenza of Medford; three daughters, Anne Reardon of Weymouth, Jacquelyn Fiorenza of Arlington, and Patti Andrews and her husband, Richard of Weymouth; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also the sister of the late James V. Santoni.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 23, at St. Agnes Church in Arlington. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.

For those who wish, contributions in Mrs. Fiorenza's memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Clinic, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA.

Arrangements were under the care of the Berglund, Williams, O'Brien Funeral Home, Arlington.

Mildred E. Hannafin

ARLINGTON - Mildred E. (Rourke) Hannafin, 79, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was the wife of the late George E. Hannafin.

She was born in Cambridge and was a longtime resident of Arlington.

She is survived by two sons, George P. Hannafin and his wife, Joyce of Hudson, N.H., and Gary E. Hannafin and his wife, Sharon of Alton, N.H.; three daughters, Jean F. Hannafin of Medford, Dr. Joyce Geranis and her husband, Patrick of Tucson, Ariz., and Janet M. Powers and her husband, John of Arlington; and 13 grandchildren.

A funeral was held June 7, from the Berglund, Williams, O'Brien Funeral Home in Arlington, followed by a funeral Mass in the Church of St. Jerome. Interment was private.

James J. Hegarty

NASHUA, N.H. - James Hegarty, 75, a former longtime Arlington resident, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at the Greenbrier Alzheimer's Home in Nashua, N.H. after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Marie (Fitzgerald) Hegarty and the late Rose M. (Campobasso) Hegarty.

Mr. Hegarty was a veteran of World War II and was employed as a manager for the New England Telephone Company.

He was the father of Jane and Jack Mahoney of Nashua, Susan and John Nocera of Bedford, Sheila and Paul Johnson of Dublin, Ohio, and Margaret and Douglas Smith of Andover. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the DeVito-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Arlington on Thursday, June 5 with a funeral Mass celebrated at St. Eulalia Church in Winchester. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.

Louise C. Hughes

ARLINGTON - Louise G. Hughes, 85, a longtime Somerville and Arlington resident, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Life Care Center of Stoneham. She was the wife of the late J. Stanley Hughes, who died in 1973.

She was born in Somerville, the daughter of the late George and Rita (Lacerda) Marques. She worked for more than 10 years as a clerk at the John Hancock Life Insurance Co.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by four sons, Joel S. Hughes of Suffield, Conn., Wayne Hughes of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Dan Hughes of Andover and Larry Hughes of Tewksbury; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, John Hughes.

Funeral services will be held today, June 12 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Arlington. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Keefe Funeral Home, Arlington.

Patrick M. Kelley

WEYMOUTH - Patrick M. Kelley, 50, of Weymouth, formerly of Arlington, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003. He was the husband of Jean M. Lavigne-Kelley.

Besides his wife, Mr. Kelley is survived by his parents, Francis E. and Beatrice T. (McCarthy) Kelley of Arlington; four sisters, Barbara A. Kelley of Arlington, Kathleen Conley of Nashua, N.H., Karen Sparacino of Billerica and Margaret (Margie) Covino of Hudson, N.H.; his grandmother, Mary "Mamie" (Ryan) Kelley of Somerville; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held from the MacKinnon Funeral Home, Whitman, on Monday, June 9 with a funeral Mass celebrated in Holy Ghost Church. Interment was in Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree.

Donations may be made in his memory to Catholic TV Center, Attn: Msgr. McInerny, 55 Chapel St., P.O. Box 9109, Newtonville, MA 02460.

Alan M. Merrill

YORK, Maine - Alan M. Merrill, 66, of Riverwood Drive, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Massachusetts General Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of Mary Jane F. Merrill.

Born Sept. 29, 1936 in Concord, N.H., he was the son of Everett and Mary (Macaulay) Merrill. He was raised in Concord, N.H., and attended Concord High School, Kimball Union Academy and Yale University.

Mr. Merrill lived in Acton and was employed for more than 30 years as an engineer at the Polaroid Corp. He was a member of the Concord-Acton Squash Club and will be remembered for his willingness to volunteer for a good cause.

Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Sarah Bishop Merrill of Cambridge, Elizabeth Jelliffe and her husband, Christoph of London, England, and Mary Macaulay Merrill of Arlington; one brother, Calvin Merrill of Wyckoff, N.J.; one sister, Judy Hurley of North Conway, N.H.; one sister-in-law, Constance Merrill of Portsmouth, N.H. and stepmother, Hazel Merrill of Machias, Maine. He was predeceased by a brother, Norman Merrill.

A memorial service will be held today, June 12 in the Kittery Point First Congregational Church, 23 Pepperell Rd., Kittery Point, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bishop House at Kimball Union Academy, P.O. Box 188, Main St., Meriden, NH 03770-0188.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, York, Maine.

Adele R. McMillian

WINDHAM, N.H. - Adele R. (Leonard) McMillian, 80, of Windham, N.H., formerly of Arlington, died April 28, 2003 at Courville of Nashua, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Norman E. McMillian.

She was born in Boston and was a former computer operator for the Boston & Maine Railroad.

Mrs. McMillian is survived by a daughter, Judith R. McMillian-Hayes and her husband, Steven of New Hampshire; a brother, Paul Leonard of Wells, Maine; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Wednesday, April 30 at the Park Avenue Congregational Church in Arlington with burial in Westview Cemetery.

Memorial donations in her name may be made to either the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or the Park Avenue Congregational Church, 50 Paul Revere Road, Arlington, MA 02476.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Saville & Grannan Funeral Home, Arlington.

David A. 'Skid' Sackos

ARLINGTON - David A. "Skid" Sackos, 57, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 31, 2003, at the Town Manor Nursing Home in Lawrence.

He was born in Chelsea and raised in Arlington and Woburn. Mr. Sackos attended Arlington Technical and Vocational School.

Mr. Sackos was an auto mechanic, a self-employed truck driver and welder, earning "Welder of the Year." He was also a talented handyman.

He was an active member of AA living Step 2, an avid motorcyclist and member of Harley Owners Group.

Mr. Sackos leaves his former wife and caregiver, Carol (Jones) Sackos of Lawrence; three sons, Daniel Lisio of Lawrence, Bret Sackos of Townsend, and Christopher Sackos in Florida; two daughters, Lisa Lisio of Brunswick, Maine, and Robyn (Lisio) Alessandro and her husband, John of Methuen; two brothers, Thomas Sackos and his wife, Betty of Alton Bay, N.H., and James Sackos of Weymouth; and nine grandchildren.

Calling hours were held June 3, at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home in Methuen.
