Mary M. Maher

Mary M. Maher, 87, of Billerica, formerly of Watertown. passed away June 15, 2007 in the Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford, Ma. Born in Cambridge, a daughter of the late Daniel J. and Mary M.(Carr), She went to Cambridge High & Latin. Mary has lived in Watertown the past forty years and was employed at United Car Fastener (now TRW) as a secretary. Mary was a singer at many USO talent shows, she sang at many Archdiocese events in the Boston area for charity fundraising. She also enjoyed summers in Wellfleet. She is the sister of John F Maher of Woburn, Robert B Maher of Newington, Conn., Elizabeth Breitmaier of Billerica & the late James D., Daniel J. and Ellen Quigley. Also survived by 26 nieces & nephews and 41 grandnieces & grandnephews. Funeral from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home 270 Main St. on Rt. 20, Watertown on Tuesday at 8:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 O’Clock in the Church of St. Patrick’s 212 Main St. Watertown. Interment Newton Cemetery. Visiting at the Funeral Home Tuesday morning from 8:00-8:30 AM. Relatives & friends kindly invited.

Hugh David MacDonald
A Funeral Mass for Hugh David MacDonald, 70, will be held on Friday, December 29, 2006, in the Church of Saint Jude, Waltham.

Mr. MacDonald was born in Boston, a son of Allan and Mary F. (MacDonald) MacDonald. He grew up in Watertown, graduated from Watertown High School and has lived in Waltham for 38 years. After high school he served in the United States Air Force during Peacetime. Mr. MacDonald was a Pipefitter Foreman for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority until his retirement 8 years ago after 25 years of service.

Mr. MacDonald was a member of the Pipefitters Union Local 537 and the Scots Charitable Society. His main hobby was doing projects and he was known as a “Go-To Man”, a handyman for everyone, when something needed to be done. He died of cancer on Sunday, December 24, 2006, at his Waltham residence.

He was the husband for 41 years of Mary-Ann (Griciunas) MacDonald; father of David A. MacDonald of Westwood, Cindy A. Burkett of Birmingham, Ala., Steven A. MacDonald (Waltham Fire Dept.) of Waltham and Keri Uriarte of Buenos Aires, Argentina ; brother of M. Ruth Patti of Hudson, John M. MacDonald of Waltham, James F. MacDonald of Lewiston, Maine, Shirley A. Milch of Natick, Daniel A. MacDonald of Wellesley and the late Allana MacDonald and Allan J. MacDonald; and grandfather of 5.

The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Friday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 o'clock in the Church of Saint Jude, 147 Main St., Waltham. Interment will be in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Watertown.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, December 28th from 4-8 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge, c/o MacDonald, 27 Willow St., Waltham, MA. 02453.

Salvatore P. Anastasi
Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 29, 2006 for Mr. Salvatore P. Anastasi. Mr. Anastasi was born in Boston, a son of the late Pietro and Carmen (Burracini) Anastasi. He grew up in Watertown graduating from Watertown High School. He was employed by the Bethleham Steel Company at Fore River, MA as a welder before enlisting in the U. S. Navy during World War 2. He entered in 1942, being discharged in 1945 as a Yeoman First Class. He had been employed for many years as a Grocery Wharehouse Supervisor. Mr. Anastasi was formerly of the North and West End of Boston. He died on Sunday, December 24, 2006 at his residence at the age of 84.

He was the husband for 55 years of the late Mary (Buonaugurio); devoted father of Peter A. Anastasi and his wife Jane of Reading, John M. Anastasi of Danvers, Camille M. Cammarata of Melrose, Salvatore P. Anastasi, Jr. of Everett and the late Angelo A. Anastasi. He was also survived by 9 loving and cherished grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews and was the brother of Mary Giantonio, Sandra Carlucci, John Anastasi and Louis Anastasi, Angela Ciavarro, Theresa Marchant and the late Joseph Anastasi, Dominic Anastasi, Peter Anastasi, Jr. and Genevieve Hegger.

Funeral Services will be held from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home in WATERTOWN SQUARE at 6 Riverside St. (cnr. of No. Beacon St.) Watertown on Friday at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 O’Clock in the Sacred Heart Church, 770 Mt. Auburn St. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM.

Contributions may be made in Sal’s memory to the American Heart Assoc. 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

Patricia Connors-Coolberth
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday December 28, 2006 for Ms. Patricia Connors-Coolberth. Mrs. Connors-Coolberth was born in Brighton, a daughter of the late Robert and Constance (Ambrose) Connors. She grew up in Watertown, graduated from Watertown High School and has been a lifelong resident of Watertown. She has been employed for many years as a cashier at the Whole Foods store on Washington St. in Newton, MA. She died on Friday December 22, 2006 at the Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge at the age of 60.

She is survived by her children: SMSGT Philip S. Coolberth, U.S.A.F. and his wife Stacey of Kuna, ID, Thomas S. Coolberth and his wife Blesselda of Leominster and Kimberly C. Fuller and her husband Jerry, SSGT. Joseph A. Pires, U.S.A.F. and Jennifer Maria Pires all of Watertown. Also survived by 6 grandchilden. Dear sister of Maureen Pires of Stoneham, Robert “Bob” Connors of FL and Debra Corsetti of Weare, NH. Mrs. Connors-Coolbert had two sons, Philip and Joseph who served in Iraq.

Funeral services will be held from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St. on Rt. 20, WATERTOWN on Thursday at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 O’Clock in the Church of St. Luke, 132 Lexington St., Belmont. Interment Belmont Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends kindly invited.

Allen D. Ballentine
Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 28, 2006 for Mr. Allen D. Ballentine. Mr. Ballentine was born in Newark, NJ, a son of the late Allen D., Sr. and Ella (Weingrift) Ballentine. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945, being discharged with the rank of TSGT. He had been a Watertown resident for many years working as a self-employed Television Repairman. Mr. Ballentine died on Sunday December 24, 2006 at the E. N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA at the age of 86.

He is survived by his wife Madine (Potter) Ballentine.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the Phillips Congregational Church, 111 Mt. Auburn St. Watertown. Visiting Hours at the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home in WATERTOWN SQUARE at 6 Riverside St. (cnr. of No. Beacon St.) Watertown on Wednesday 4-6 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited.

Joseph L. Connors
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday December 26, 2006 for Mr. Joseph L. Connors. Mr. Connors was born in Brighton, a son of the late Joseph L. and Catherine M. (Farraher) Connors. He grew up in Brighton, graduating from St. Columbkille’s High School. He worked for many years as a Surveying Engineer. He had been a resident of Watertown for over 20 years and a resident of Hopkinton for 10 years. When a resident of Hopkinton, he served as Treasurer of the Hopkinton Housing Authority. Mr. Connors died on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the Caritas St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton at the age of 68.

He is survived by his children: Detective Joseph L. Connors, Waltham Police Dept. and his companion Jennifer Eldredge and Carolyn M. Oates and her husband Walter J. of Waltham; his grandchildren: Christopher, Taylor and Hayley Connors and his sister Dorothy McCarthy of Canton.

A Funeral Service will be held in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St. on Rt. 20, WATERTOWN on Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. Calling hours prior to the service 4-7 P.M. Relatives and friends kindly invited.

Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to the American Diabetes Assn., 330 Congress St. , 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.

Edna M. Martin
Funeral Services for Edna May (Claire) Martin, 88, will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2006, at 10 AM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Route 20,Watertown.

Mrs. Martin was born in Dorchester, a daughter of John and Martha (Beith) Clare. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and has lived in Watertown for most of her life. Mrs. Martin, a former employee of F.W. Woolworth Co. in Watertown, was a member of Senior Action and Senior Neighbors in Watertown. She died in Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, Boston, on Thursday, December 20, 2006.

She was the mother of John L. Martin of Watertown and the late David B. Martin and sister of Margaret R. Clare. Mrs. Martin also leaves 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was the friend of the late Charles Petrukenas.

The Rev. Robert Asinger, Pastor of the Phillips Congregational Church, Watertown, will officiate at the services in the Funeral Home and the interment services at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.

Irene Hersey Tuttle
Memorial Services will be held on Friday January 5, 2007 for Mrs. Irene H. Tuttle. Mrs. Tuttle was born in Livermore Falls, Maine, a daughter of the late Chester and Lula (Burgess) Hersey. She grew up in Maine, graduating from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. In 1930, after a year of teaching school she joined the staff of the Boston Public Library. She was eventually appointed Branch Librarian at the South Boston Branch Library. She retired in 1966.

She married the late Thomas R. Tuttle, Sr. of Somerville. After his death she returned to Maine and continued in library work. In 1986 Mrs. Tuttle moved to Watertown to live with her son Thomas, Jr. and his wife Joan. She enjoyed her relationships with them, with granddaughters Susan Tuttle and Hilary Tuttle both of Watertown and Rachel Crimlisk of Needham, with five great grandchildren and with friends.

She was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church in Watertown, the Watertown Senior Center and Watertown Public Library.

Mrs. Tuttle died on Monday December 18, 2006 at the Caritas St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center at the age of 98.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday January 5, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the St. John’s United Methodist Church, 80 Mt. Auburn Street, Watertown. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.

Thomas F. McHugh, Jr.
A Funeral Mass for Thomas Francis McHugh, Jr., 91, will be celebrated on Friday, December 22, 2006 in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown.

Mr. McHugh was born in Cambridge, a son of Thomas F. and Anna B. (McGrory) McHugh. He lived most of his life in Watertown and was a graduate of Saint Patrick Grammar School and Watertown High School. Mr. McHugh was a Conductor for the Boston and Maine Railroad for 42 years until his retirement in the late 1970s.

He was an active member of Saint Patrick Parish by singing in the choir, being a member of the Holy Name Society and participating in the many other parish activities such as the Couples Club. Mr. McHugh was a past Treasurer of the Ecumenical Life Center and held life membership in the Knights of Columbus, Council #155, Watertown and the David I. Walsh General Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He also sang with the Ecumenical Life Center Singers and a choir in Belmont. Mr. McHugh died in the Newton Wellesley Hospital on Monday evening, December 18, 2006.

He leaves his wife of 69 years, Loretta E. (Chamberlain) McHugh; four children: Thomas F. McHugh of Duxbury, Loretta A. Stacchi of Bedford, Bernard W. McHugh of Hanson and Mary Ellen McHugh of Watertown; two brothers: John McHugh of Waltham and Paul McHugh of Weymouth; a sister, Margaret Jones of Greenfield; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was also the father of the late James D. McHugh of Bel Air, MD., and brother of the late Roberta Podgurski and Edward McHugh.

The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Friday at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 o'clock in the Church of Saint Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, December 21st from 4-8 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.

Russell A. Buchanan
Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 8, 2006 for Mr. Russell A. Buchanan. Mr. Buchanan was born in Cambridge, a son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Buchanan) Buchanan. He grew up in Cambridge, graduating from Rindge Technical High School. He also attended the New England Conservatory in Boston and he also studied Printing at the Wentworth Institute in Boston. He served with the U. S. Navy during World War 1 and was an Assistant Band leader with the U. S. Army during World War 2. After his discharge in 1945 he worked for many years as a printer. Mr. Buchanan had been a Watertown resident for over 50 years. He was a member of the Burnham Manning Post #1105, V.F.W., a member of the AMVETS Post #14 in Watertown, and the Marine Corps League, Shutt Detachment in Watertown. He was one of only 13 living member who served in the Armed Forces during World War 1. Mr. Buchanan died on Wednesday December 6, 2006 at the Mount Auburn Hospital at the age of 106.

He was predeceased by his wife Maybelle (Fleming) Buchanan and is survived by his niece Anna M. Lloy of Yarmouth Port and his nephews David Fleming of Yarmouth Port, Donald Buchanan of Delaware, and Robert Buchanan.

Funeral Services will be held from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home in WATERTOWN SQUARE at 6 Riverside St. (crnr. No. Beacon St.) Watertown, on Friday at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 10 O’clock in Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church 838 Mass. Ave. Cambridge, Ma. 02139. Interment will be held in the Cambridge Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Thursday 3-7 PM. Relatives & friends kindly invited.

Memorials may be made in Russell’s name may be made to either the above named church or the New England Shelter for Homeless Veteran’s Dept. V., 17 Court St. Boston, Ma. 02128.
